Two-Hour Viagra Commercial: Warner Bros. has picked up an untitled comedy from writers Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge with Morgan Freeman attached to star. The script, which has the working title Dirty Old Men, is about an old playboy who meets the love of his life. His wingman of 40 years (Freeman) is not too keen on this development and tries to break up the new couple. Warner Bros. is hoping to snag Jack Nicholson to star as the playboy, reuniting the duo from your grandpa's favorite movie of 2007: The Bucket List. [THR]

Al Sharpton's oldest daughter and his ex-wife were treated "unfairly" by police who arrested the duo in Harlem on Friday, according to the good Reverend's Twitter. Dominique, Sharpton's 23-year-old daughter, and Kathy Jordan, his "best friend and top supporter," got into it with cops after Dominique was pulled over for running a red light. Both were charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of governmental administration.
"I cannot imagine how two unarmed women with no record, could be taken in cuffs from a traffic dispute with NO personal or property damage involved," Sharpton angrily Tweeted. "Well this is what we deal with everyday. We will never accept unfairness."
Where Sharpton takes this from here is anyone's guess, but if the comments on the Daily News story are any indication, it's going to get ugly.
There were no big stars like Jude Law in the current commercial hit 'Hamlet,' there was no marketing campaign that framed the Simon play as a can’t-miss theatrical event, and there was no wow factor that brought the period piece to life, like the breakneck pacing of the popular farce 'Boeing-Boeing' last year. But the failure also reflects America’s evolving sense of humor and taste.
How exactly has our sense of humor evolved? We've left behind the snappy dialogue of Simon's sitcom-style plays in favor of "reality shows like American Idol," the "sardonic humor of The Office," the "wit of Up" and the "fratty banter of The Hangover." The result: a $3 million production by one of America's most celebrated playwrights that can't make more than $125,000 a week. Thanks a lot Simon Cowell. And Steve Carell. And Pixar. And Mike Tyson's tiger.

If you were planning on spending the next two days trying to predict the results of the congressional race in New York's 23rd district, don't bother. From political polling wonder boy Nate Silver:
Let me declaim that the utterly fascinating special election in NY-23 has become nearly impossible to forecast. Special elections, with their low turnout, are intrinsically pretty difficult to predict. So are multi-candidate races. And certainly, races where there are substantial late-breaking developments — such as the Republican candidate dropping out four days before the election and endorsing her Democratic rival — present especial difficulties for forecasters. Here, you have all three of those circumstances, producing a perfect storm of uncertainty.

This is how it went down: As the flight to Kansas City was preparing for take-off, Carter had to pee. On his way down the aisle he bent over to tie his shoe and in the process bumped into the flight attendant, who was not pleased. "This man deliberately slammed into me, I want him off the plane," the flight attendant yelled. The cops were called, Carter and his wife were removed from the plane and questions were asked. Police decided not to file charges and blamed the altercation on the flight attendant. The airline later apologized, Carter said.
Sounds pretty annoying, but that's what life is like for an alleged wife-abusing secret family-having high-profile journalist.
Last week Microsoft got nervous after watching Fox's upcoming special Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show. The company was supposed to provide all of the advertising but too many unsavory jokes led to it pulling out. Apparently Microsoft had never seen Family Guy. Now Warner Bros. has come to the rescue, agreeing to make its new Robert Downey Jr.-starring Sherlock Holmes the special's sole advertiser. That means an extended trailer for the movie will play sometime during the special. So just think of it as watching 25 minutes of commercial for an awesome five minute show.
Embattled small-business lender CIT can now be called bankrupt small-business lender CIT. The company filed for Chapter 11 today under a plan allowing it to emerge from court protection by the end of the year. But this is one of the first times a financial firm has tried to restructure through bankruptcy, so no one really knows if it will work. CIT's filing was the fifth largest bankruptcy in U.S. history and while you may be thinking "sucks for them," it actually sucks for you too. CIT received $2.3 billion in bailout money late last year. The bankruptcy filing is expected to erase that debt.
This Is It? Hardly.
Sony announced today the Michael Jackson concert movie, originally billed as a two-week-only event, will stay in theaters through Thanksgiving...
"I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same," she said. "In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first."
If you called in sick last week in order to cram a screening of This Is It into your busy schedule since it was advertised as a two-week-only event, boy do we have a Halloween-themed Facebook gift (just 400 left!) to sell you. But Nikki Finke is still outraged that Sony is extending the film's theatrical run in the U.S. and Canada. Sure, it's shady, but forget it, it's movie marketing. CON ARTISTS! After his lawyers' non-cash bail offer to Swiss authorities was rejected on Friday, Polanski's lawyer announced that he will be presenting a new offer tomorrow in hopes of winning the 76-year-old director's freedom while he awaits extradition to the U.S., claiming that it will be a "very, very significant" cash amount. The lawyer, Herve Temime, told a French radio station that if given temporary freedom, his client would never "behave like a fugitive." Why, the very idea is just ludicrous! [AP]

In honor of today's NYC Marathon, the New York Times has a story about the approximately 0.01% of marathon runners who cheat (at least 46 last year), either by taking a shortcut or by giving their numbered bibs to faster runners. Men and women are represented equally in this strange little club, the most famous of whom was Rosie Ruiz, who took the subway in the 1979 marathon. It's all very funny, because why bother? [NYT]

What a roller-coaster weekend for lovers of British comedy! First, Stephen Fry threatened to quit Twitter, where he has nearly a million followers (ourselves included), because some random called @brumplum called Fry's tweets "boring." Then, Fry's threat made national news in the UK and this brumplum guy got bombarded by angry tweets from Fry's fans. Then, the two Twitter users made up, Fry took back his threat, and urged everyone to move on with their lives. But we're not, quite yet, because the whole thing is just too ridiculous. Gordon Brown should invite the two men to have a pint at 10 Downing Street. Which has its own Twitter! What a world. Stephen Fry in a flutter at horrid tweeters on Twitter [TimesOnline]

In an appearance on the BBC 1's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on Friday, The Walken had a special Halloween surprise for viewers: a dramatic reading of the song "Poker Face" by Lady GaGa. If the whole acting thing doesn't work out, Walken already has an entire sideline in reading things. How great would "Christopher Walken Presents: The Bible" be, for example?
Hugh Jackman's out. Ricky Gervais's taken. Neil Patrick Harris' moving up the Academy Awards' invite list.
Not so fast on that last one.

Even the pouring rain didn't deter thousands of soaked revelers at last night's Halloween parade. Photographer Jim Kiernan captured the streets of Greenwich Village, where New Yorkers were more than willing to pose in their often indecipherable costumes. (This was a big year for corsets. Just: corsets.) We loved this lil' joker and two guys dressed as walk/don't walk signs the best, but the whole gallery is pretty great. (Napoleon Dynamite, it seems, will always be with us.)
