"No John, no Blue 2, no Aerial yet" - Anthony D'Souza

This has becomes a trend of sorts. No sooner does a film hit the screens or is ready for release, stories start floating around how its maker is ready with the plans of making his next. It may be mere speculation, a PR plug or a confirmed report but the fact that it does get the film (which is about to get released) noticed. In certain instances a filmmaker knows the origin of the news. However, there also have been cases where he himself is flabbergasted with such information floating around. What may just turn be a thought over a mug of coffee is elevated to the scale of being confirmed to such an extent that it appears as if the film would get on floors within a week of the news making headlines. Diwali releases went through the same syndrome with glowing announcements around the next projects of Rohit Shetty (All The Best) and Prem Soni (Main Aurr Mrs Khanna). While Rohit was said to be caught in a dilemma of choosing his next film between the sequel to Golmaal and All The Best, Prem confirmed that Salman Khan had green lighted another project for him. Something similar happened to Anthony D'Souza as well who happened to share certain thoughts about his next assignments with a few associates. The next thing he heard, there were projects like airborne thriller Aerial and a sequel to Blue all set to be kick started. What's more, he had apparently also signed one of his favourite actors from the industry and close friends - John Abraham. However, a fortnight after the release of Blue, Anthony D'Souza a.k.a. Tony is ready to term this information as sheer rumour that doesn't come with any basis. He denies working on either Blue 2 or Aerial and also dispels the theory that he has signed John for his next. "All of these are mere speculations and I have no clue from where have they originated. All I said was that I would love to work with John since he is a close friend. He is the one who got me in the industry and I owe him a lot. Tomorrow if a project works out well for both of us then we would be game for working together. However, this isn't something that I am stating today after Blue; I have maintained this for a year now. If this admiration and gratitude of mine is sensationalised by some and posted as twisted headlines, then I can't help it, right? On a lighter note, I have always been forthcoming in admitting my love for Hollywood. However, that doesn't mean that Francis Ford Coppola has sanctioned a film for me", jokes Tony. There have also been talks that other than John, the principal cast of Blue is coming together with him again. What does the filmmaker has to say about that? "As much as I love John and would want him in my films, there is no project for which he has signed on the dotted line yet. Neither is that the case with Mr. Akshay Kumar, Mr. Sanjay Dutt, Zayed, Lara or Katrina. They are all great actors and I would love to work with all of them together again. But no, there is no film which is happening with them at the moment", Tony sets the record straight. Where does that leave so-called announcements like Blue 2 and Aerial? The moment Blue hit the screens and took a very good opening; a sequel seemed to be offering. Also, knowing Tony's penchant for action adventure, it was being stated that he would now take his cast and crew in the air with Aerial. There have also been theories around him making a trilogy of such action adventure cinema. "These are nothing but overzealous minds at work", laughs Tony, "For the records, I am neither doing Blue 2 nor Aerial. These are all speculations. Yes, I have a penchant for making action flicks and my next would belong to that genre as well. However, it won't necessarily have an adventure element to that. Whether it would be Blue 2 or something else? Well, for all you know, it could be Red or Yellow", he laughs, "Seriously, it's too early to be even talking about it. I am still in the process of fleshing out a subject. Let things take their due course and we would make the right announcements. Till then, let's enjoy Blue." Well, with another rumour biting the dust, one looks forward to how the trend continues for weeks to come. Whether there would be more in the offering around adventures of Aladin? Whether London Dreams may lead way for New York Dreams? Would Ranbir have many more stories to tell after Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani? Or if Aamir Khan would be bringing in four idiots for his next assignment after Three Idiots? Of course, we are waiting!

"Everything went wrong with LD but then it all fell in place" - Vipul Shah

London Dreams has released and found good appreciation coming its way. After a not-so-thunderous start, the film settled down over the weekend, just as was the case with Ajay Devgn's last release All The Best and very unlike Salman Khan's Main Aurr Mrs Khanna that only fell further down with every passing show. While Vipul Shah is happy that his film has been received well by critics who matter, he is happier that audiences have given a big thumbs-up to the film. "That's what the bottom line is all about", says an exhausted Vipul who has horror stories to tell about the pains he had to go through en route to the Friday release of the film, "Look at readers comments all over the internet. They have their own tale to tell. Really, after getting feedback from them and seeing soaring collections on every passing day, I don't really have much to say in defence of London Dreams." Meanwhile, he is flummoxed with the way his London Dreams progressed ever since it's inception and finally made it to the theatres. While the change in hands w.r.t. to the film's production as well as distribution is an old story, there was quite some drama waiting to take place till a week before the film's release. "This is one film where everything just went wrong to begin with, only to fall in place eventually", Vipul can afford to smile now, "We had completed the entire mixing of the film. However, to my horror, it was detected that it had just gone wrong. Now there is very little margin of error when it comes to mixing and chances of it going wrong are one in a million. Still, it happened to London Dreams at the stage when print dispatch was round the corner." What followed from there on were countless hours of effort that resulted in sleepless days and nights for the harried filmmaker who also had to give time to the film's promotion, marketing and other last minute activities. "What could we have done? We had to just remix and re-master the entire thing", informs Vipul, "For a normal production, mixing takes 20 days but we just had 3 days at our disposal. We worked day in and night out to get the final effect in place. In any case, this has been the most complicated film that I have done; whether in terms of sound, background or visuals." He is in mood to rest a little now with the film into the weekdays. "I have practically caught just 4 hours of sleep a day for last 15 days", he smiles, "But that's ok. Even a woman has to go through 9 months of pain to give birth to a child. London Dreams is my favourite kid; albeit a little naughty one. He made sure that I was on my toes throughout and am unable to relax at all. Now when everybody says that this kid is sweet, I do feel like a proud papa for sure."

Aishwarya named Smile Train's first goodwill ambassador

Download image as wallpaper Besides being hailed as the most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always been synonymous to God's eternal answer to beauty, grace and gorgeousness. After having been crowned as Miss World, Ash (as she is fondly called), has now been announced as the first Goodwill Ambassador for Smile Train, the world's largest cleft charity. As a part of this Ambassadorship, Ash will partner with Smile Train, in association with her own charity (Aishwarya Rai Foundation), in numerous ways to spread awareness and garner recourses to help the worldwide movement. Aishwarya will work with Smile Train to achieve an ambitious new goal in helping change the lives of over one million children worldwide who suffer from shame and isolation because of cleft lip and cleft palate. As the Goodwill Ambassador, Aishwarya will actively work to help Smile Train to provide free cleft surgery to children in 78 developing countries around the world, including India. This initiative will help raise awareness in India and around the world to the plight of children born with cleft. Talking about this association, the ever-so-gorgeous Aishwarya said, "God has given me plenty of reasons to smile and I feel it's time to spread it around. There are a lot of children out there who so desperately need help, but can't receive timely care because their families cannot afford this surgery or are ill-educated about this condition. Working with Smile Train, if I can make a difference in their lives, it will certainly make me feel honored and blessed." With Aishwarya coming on board, Brian Mullaney, President- Smile Train, said, "Aishwarya's universal appeal and star power will be a priceless asset to our organization, and we consider it a great privilege to have her represent our organization, which does such important work in every corner of the globe," said. "I look forward to working with her. Her poise, intelligence and dedication to our mission will catapult the work that we do to new and exciting heights."

Mahesh Bhatt - Kunal Deshmukh slug it out over 'Dil Ibaadat' song in Tum Mile

Mahesh Bhatt and one of his directorial protegees Kunal Deshmukh are on the warpath. The culprit is the much talked-about steamy song 'Dil Ibaadat' showing Soha Ali Khan and Emraan Hashmi in a dreamy steamy state. Apparently, the director was dead against slipping in the steamy stuff into his film. But Mahesh Bhatt insisted. And now when the film 'Tum Mile' is on the verge of release, Kunal has put his foot down about the inclusion of what he sees as an embarrassing titillating intervention. Initially hesitant to discuss the pow-wow with his mentor, Kunal Deshmukh finally conceded there was problem with Mahesh Bhatt. "It's true, I never wanted the song 'Dil Ibaadat' to be filmed in that steamy way. In fact, I shot it completely differently in the way Bhatt Saab had shot the song 'Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar' in Arth. My film is about an estranged couple who meet after six years in the July 26 deluge that swept Mumbai." But when Bhatt saw the song, he put his foot down and asked Kunal to re-do it. Says Kunal, "I was very uncomfortable with the idea. But I had no choice because Bhatt saab is a pro. He has been in the business for thirty years whereas I'm just two films old and completely new to these marketing strategies." Though Deshmukh gave in to Bhatts' pressure, he now wants the song removed. "The way I shot the song earlier as homage to Bhatt Saab's 'Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar' makes more sense in my film. I won't let them release the film with that steamy song." However, Mahesh Bhatt refuses to relent. "Kunal is bright director. He shot 'Dil Ibaadat' as homage to my Arth song. But imitating my work does not flatter me. It's over and done with. I left direction to get away from myself on screen. The last thing I need is to see clones of my work. Kunal and I are fighting it out." What happened to Mahesh Bhatt's non-interfering clause? "I still maintain it. But when an exceptional talent like Kunal Deshmukh uses older references I owe it to him to nudge him to his own idiom." Kunal however remains adamant. "I'll have my song restored in my film in its original form. Like I said I'm not used to all these eyeball-grabbing tactics. Recently, some media linked me to Kangna Ranaut when all we were doing was meeting up for a coffee. Some would consider that to be good press. But I cringed."

Anushka Sharma on shooting for YRF's next in US

It's not Anushka Sharma's beauty that has been getting her attention recently. It's her choice of unique roles and her award winning acting ability that is making tabloids go ga-ga over her. So while the whole of India was celebrating Diwali this year, she was busy acting on the streets of New York for Parmeet Sethi's debut movie produced by Yash Raj Films. The towering beauty is back in Mumbai after a gruelling one month outdoor schedule. But if you thought that all ends here, you've got it wrong. She will be packing her bags to go to Bangkok on November 5 for yet another outdoor schedule along with Shahid Kapoor, Veer Das and Chang, her co-stars in the film. Anushka's warm and accepting personality shines through when you talk to her, and you feel instantly comfortable. Add to that her silly good one liners and you know you're in company. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel had a quick chat with her about her American dream, her grocery shopping in the US, her clubbing days down West, her passion for stand up comedians and also Akshay Kumar's humorous antics. Let's talk about your American Dream? (Laughs) I've never had any American Dream. I just had a schedule to finish in America. We were shooting in New York and Philadelphia. How did America treat you? American way of working is very different from what you shoot out here. You work in a twelve hour shift, a twelve hour turn around had to be there. So you are certain that you will get free at a particular time. It then becomes easier to plan things like shopping, sight seeing, or going to any restaurant, etc. After Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi happened, I've only lived in Mumbai. I did go to Macau for IIFA and to London for some event but never stayed back for more than two days there. In America, I can proudly say that I've stayed there for more than a month. After spending time in New York, I found that America was such a free nation. Far different from what people can ever imagine. I loved it. I'm sure you mustn't have been put up in a hotel if you stayed there for more than a month. Yes, you're right. I stayed for such a long time that I was put up for a while in a service apartment. I used to go and get my own grocery out there. I used to go to the park, etc. I was a complete anonymous person out there. I walked the streets and read a book in one of the beautiful parks. It made me extremely happy and relaxed. Would you love to stay back in America? I wish. Before I left Mumbai, I didn't think that I would like America so much. Now I have realised, after staying there for a month, I really love the United States. What I like about America is that everybody is free to do their own stuff their way. Unlike other cities in Europe or London. I somehow liked the culture out there. If there is one place I'd go back for my long vacation, it'll be New York. I know I can stay there but not for good. After spending time in New York, I found that America was such a free nation. Far different from what people can ever imagine. I loved it. What about night life and clubbing in the U.S? Yes I did. I went to this really nice lounge kind of a place. It wasn't a clubbing place. It's called '230 fifth'. That's the name of the lounge. It is the name of the street where the lounge is, thus the name. It has a roof top garden and a penthouse lounge. You can see the whole Manhattan skyline from there. What about your co-stars? You guys bonded well? Of course we did. They were there along with Parmeet Sethi, our director, who sometimes would accompany us. We all went together, Shahid, Chang, Veer, Ameera. We would eat and drink out and that's how we tried to bond together because it's a film about friends and friendship. It was like a group of people who would go out and have a good time. That's what we did in New York. Any screaming fans of yours on the rooftop? (Laughs) Not on the rooftop. But something did happen in a mall out there. They approached me and asked me, ''Are you Anushka Sharma?'' I was feeling a bit naughty and obnoxious. So I said, ''No I am not. But a lot of people do tell me I look like her'' (laughs). Then they ask their second round of questions, ''Where are you from?'' I answer, ''Kolkata''. ''What are you doing in America?'' to which I'd answer, ''I've come here to study''. But I'd get back to them and apologise, ''Sorry sorry. You can come and get your picture clicked with me'', I say. I do things like these for fun. They approached me and asked me, ''Are you Anushka Sharma?'' I said, ''No I am not. But a lot of people do tell me I look like her'' What a prankster you are Anushka I am but not while we are working. I don't exactly know how to play pranks but when you're shooting on an outdoor schedule where there is so much money being spent, you rather not play any pranks. But there was Veer Das, the famous stand up comedian who used to crack me up by his good one liners and comic talent. I wanted to go to some comedy club where I could see stand up comedians perform live. Unfortunately, I couldn't. All geared up to face another stand up comedian, Akshay Kumar, in your third big venture? I met Akshay before leaving for America and he is so funny. You just come to know that he is up to something. You feel as if he is about to crack a joke or say something quite weird. He suddenly asked me, ''You take jokes na?'' That's how Akshay is. He prepares you before he gets prepared (laughs).

Wishing Shahrukh Khan a very happy Birthday

He is the undisputed badshah of Bollywood, he is Shah Rukh Khan. Not only does this superstar have a massive fan base but he also has an equal number of brands under his belt. SRK, as he is fondly known, is the face for them. SRK's first claim to fame was the small screen series titled Fauji. It was here that he was noticed for his brilliant performances and it wasn't long after that he was offered a film. However, it was no cake walk for Shah Rukh, as he too faced obstacles back then, be it for being an unconventional hero or for his scruffy hair. SRK however, started delivering hits from the very beginning with Deewana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Darr and so on. He then became the eternal loverboy of Bollywood with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. And after that, there was no looking back for this superstar. Today being the birthday of this icon of Indian Cinema, Bollywood Hungama wishes Shah Rukh a very happy birthday. You too can send your birthday wishes to SRK by simply posting them in the space below.
