Sony plans to enter 'This Is It' in Oscar race
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 30 Oct 2009 | 9:29 am "Salman would ask us to drop in at wee hrs for a bite after partying'' - RannvijayMeet Rannvijay Singh and Aditya Roy Kapoor, twenty something video jockeys and friends who play blood brothers in Vipul Amrutlal Shah's London Dreams. One acts nanny to rouge and devilish contestants of the reality show Roadies, while the latter belts out songs for his unnamed alternative rock band. I'm the first of about half a dozen press crews that have come down to interview the duo. ''Are you not tired of this?' I ask them. ''Wrong question. We've just begun.'' Suddenly I reconcile to certain facts: despite their long TV careers, this is their first big film, I am only as old as them and cannot risk being exposed and my editor's brief that this is supposed to be a 'fun' interview. So I begin by asking the about the Pakistani angle to their London Dreams, and 40-odd minutes later end up with witty remarks, some randomness and a peek into two dedicated and excited film professional. Excerpts from the chat... You play two brothers, Zoheb and Wasim. Is that for real? Aditya Roy Kapoor (ARK): Are you sure? (laughs) Rannvijay Singh (RS): Jokes part, the filmmakers needed two young boys who could pass of as London boy musicians. I did a test and met Vipul for some 47 seconds, and he told me 'This is the role. Do you wanna do it?' And I was on board. ARK: A month later I got a call from the casting agent, who had seen a photograph of mine in some magazine. Two-three months after that, I met Sir (Vipul Shah), did a screen test with Rannvijay where we acted like brash young rockstars. It was actually as simple as that. RS: The next thing we know, we were in London together wondering, 'What is our role?' Aditya Roy Kapoor: I met Sir (Vipul Shah), did a screen test with Rannvijay where we acted like brash young rockstars. It was actually as simple as that. Exactly, did you know you were supposed to play Pakistani lads who run away from their families? Did you go to Pakistan? Run from family? ARK: To prepare for the role? RS: Main pichle bees saal se-jab se mujhey pata laga ki main is film main hoon-main riyaaz kar raha hoon. ARK: No we didn't go to Pakistan. RS: There is not a lot of emphasis on this Pakistani, sufi angle. There's just one line in the film where I say, 'I'm Zoheb from Karachi aur ye mera chota bhai hain'. ARK: There's no conflict coming from our families, but we wouldn't mind it. Both of you are VJ's, how does the shift to the big screen feel? RN: Firstly, Aditya's not an VJ anymore. After meeting me he's realized that he was working for an inferior channel. ARK: No need to compete when you don't have respect for the competition. OK. I get it. Let's talk about the music. RS: The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is really awesome. And a friend of mine from this band called Agnee has sung one of the songs, 'Khanabadosh'. There are a few other songs which are catchy. ARK: Yeah, that's right... How was shooting in London? ARK: Lovely. We are telling everyone this only. We go out to the airport and Rannvijay said, 'Bro, enjoy this because from here it's only down.' RS: I've done a film before this (Toss). I told Aditya, any film after this, you'll feel like shit. We were treated very well, were pampered, had cars to ourselves, and 45 days of very little work! And to top it all, we were put up at the Crown Plaza, right outside Buckingham Palace. ARK: It was actually like a little group over there, everyone was bonding. When we were shooting 'Barson' - it's a concert setting - there were lots juniors jumping around, loud music, and lots of lights. And shooting a song can become quite monotonous, I tell you. But every time the Hanuman Chalisa would come on - the juniors have to be told to jump, generally - they'd actually go mad and Salman would be rocking it. Rannvijay Singh: We were treated very well, were pampered and were put up at the Crown Plaza, right outside Buckingham Palace. Salman is known for his on-sets camaraderie. Did you get a piece of that? RS: The sensibilities are so good with these senior actors that Salman would actually ask us to drop in at the wee hours of the morning for a bite, after our partying. He would make sure that we had a car no matter where we went. I think we were just spoilt, rotten... ARK: We'll never have this royal experience in our lives, until and unless we do a film again with these guys. Rannvijay Singh: Salman would actually ask us to drop in at the wee hours of the morning for a bite, after our partying Do you have any emotional lines in the film? RS: It's a real film, its how you'd be with your brother and sister. No melodrama... ARK: But we don't think alike and have a bit of a conflict towards the end of the film. RS: I am obsessed and mesmerized by Arjun's (played by Ajay Devgn) dedication to the band and blindly follow him. Did you also blindly follow the director? ARK: Yes indeed. With the amount of knowledge and experience he's had in this industry, we felt like we had to, because we could see how much sense he was making by everything he was saying. RS: Vipul's also a good actor. He'll just tell you, 'Aise karo'. And even if you get half the expression right, you're good. It was just easy because he's a director who knows what the actor's going through. Also we were blindly following everyone else - Salman, Ajay sir. ARK: We were blind only. Rannvijay Singh: Vipul's also a good actor. He'll just tell you, 'Aise karo'. And even if you get half the expression right, you're good Blind to Asin's beauty too? RS: We did look at Asin. A lot. Actually it was a dream to work with her. You guys are just being diplomatic. ARK: No, no. She is sweet, very down to earth, and very normal. She's so successful. RS: You know what? Everyone says that she is from Ghajini and all but with us she was just like a normal co-star. She's just 23 years old and has worked with senior actors like Aamir Khan. But it's the first time she got to work with actors of her age. So you guys plan to stick along, cinematically? RS: We meet quite often and are doing a couple of films; one of them together. ARK: We'll be killed if we talked about it. We'll be hunted, it's in the contract. Back to London Dreams, how's the promotion drive going on? RS: Once you do a film and I've done Toss, after that everything that had to go wrong with the film went wrong. After such an experience, you realize why promotion is very important. ARK: It's so exciting, and since we are doing the interviews together, it's fun.Source: Indiafm.com Features | 30 Oct 2009 | 8:21 am Ameesha injures her knee during work-outClick above for event stills Ameesha was spotted with a white bandage around her knee at Hrithik Roshan's party on Sunday night. It was a night to remember with the who's who of world and Indian cinema gracing the event with their presence. The festival was inaugurated by the Information and Broadcasting Minister. Ambika Soni. A visibly impressed Mrs. Soni said, "Indian Cinema has made significant contribution to the nation's growth rate. The film industry's concerns are the concerns of my ministry." Once the action moved from the red carpet to inside the venue, the crowd was pleasantly surprised to see that the emcees for the night were the two whiz kids of Bollywood, Farhan Akhtar and Karan Johar, who were both at their enthralling best. Farhan invited the Chairman of MAMI, Shyam Benegal who gave the welcome speech. Benegal said, "I am extremely happy to see all our guests present here today. With around 200 films from 56 countries being a part of the festival, I promise everyone the chance to watch some of the best talents the medium has to offer." Later filmmaker Yash Chopra was felicitated by Benoit Ginisty, from the Federation Internationale des Associatons de producteurs de Films (FIAPF) for Outstanding Achievement in Film. An elated Chopra said, "Such appreciation for one's work is always a very humbling experience. I am happy that God has given me the strength and the ability to make films for so many years and I will continue to do so till my last breath." The MFF Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Shashi Kapoor for an outstanding career spanning six decades. Kapoor said, "I thank the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image and Reliance Big Entertainment for considering my name for this award. These would be some of the most cherished moments of my life." The highlight of the night was the screening of Matt Damon starrer The Informant directed by Academy-Award Winning Steven Soderbergh. The film is a dark political comedy based on true events and the 2000 non-fiction book of the same name by journalist Kurt Eichenwald. Films in competition will be viewed on 8 screens at Fun Cinemas (Andheri), Metro BIG Cinemas (Marine Lines) & BIG Cinemas R City (Ghatkopar) and judged by MFF 2009 Jury Members including: renowned Hollywood screenwriter and director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, American Gigolo), Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, Philippine filmmaker Brillante Mendoza, Indian filmmaker Shaji N. Karun and former Director of Locarno Film Festival Irene Bignardi. She debuted with Aamir Khan and now will be seen in London Dreams with Salman Khan. The actress adores both the actors and finds them similar personality wise. Asin says, "Salman and Aamir both are extremely warm, friendly and very genuine people. They don't consciously work to create an image for themselves. In Bollywood, there are a lot of people who try to create a certain image of themselves and portray a certain image. Aamir and Salman are just themselves and that is very enduring and that is very rare in a showbiz industry like ours." Talking about professionalism she says, "Personality wise they are quite similar but their working styles are a little different. Aamir comes on the sets, will discuss his scenes with the director, will give inputs, takes suggestions and finally get to shooting. On the other hand, Salman would know his lines, deliver his shots and that would be the end of it. But I am sure as an actor, he would have prepared himself before coming to shoot. He would surely be knowing his work in terms of his body language, his lines etc. It is just the working style difference between them."Source: Indiafm.com Features | 30 Oct 2009 | 4:41 am Rensil shoots special music video for Kurbaan featuring only Saif & not KareenaDownload Kurbaan wallpapers Why was Kareena Kapoor not part of the music video that was shot by Rensil D'Silva on Tuesday although she is very much part of Kurbaan and when she was in fact shooting for another film by the same producers (Dharma Productions)? Kareena says she wasn't needed. But Saif and Rensil, after shooting with the actor alone decided she was needed after all. Images of Kareena were finally included in Saif's music video. Saif Ali Khan shot a music video for Kurbaan, a seductive tag-on for the film which takes its director Rensil D'Silva back to his roots. Laughed Rensil, "Yeah, I used to shoot music videos ten years ago. I feel I've gone back in time. We decided to do a music video for Kurbaan. But not the usual shor-sharaaba flashy promotional video." The unusual music video shot at Mukesh Mills in Mumbai was conceptualized by Rensil and choreographed by Bosco. It featured Saif and the chorus dancers in spiritual postures. Says Rensil, "Unlike the usual music videos this was more spirit than body. There is a lot of visual imagery in the song that we haven't captured before in any music video. Though there are chorus dancers accompanying Saif, you won't see them or Saif doing the usual gyrations." Rensil was very clear about the music video defining the film's theme. He was also quite sure it would feature only Saif. But then Kareena's presence was sorely missed. Apparently, Saif suggested that she be present in the music video at least in spirit. "How could we not have Kareena in the video? I mean she's the music in the film," reasons Rensil. The director chose what he thought to be her finest dramatic shots from the film and placed them in the music video as images passing by while Saif performs the song in the foreground. "The impact is potent," says Rensil. "Kareena's the soul of the film. Though we shot the song 'Kurbaan Hua' without her participation, we had to finally acknowledge the fact that she lends a lyricism to our film."Source: Indiafm.com News | 30 Oct 2009 | 4:18 am Hrithik's passionate kiss in 'Guzaarish' - Times of India
Source: Entertainment - Google News | 30 Oct 2009 | 4:14 am Saif Ali Khan does body artWhen was the last time that someone offered you a whopping amount for creating your own recipe? Well, think no further as the chips major Lay's, has done just that. It has announced the 'Give Us Your Dillicious Flavour' campaign, with none other than Saif Ali Khan doing the honours. 'Give Us Your Dillicious Flavour' is an innovative engagement program that is aimed at getting Lay's next potato chips flavour from the Indian consumer. The campaign will give the consumer an opportunity to co-create the flavour they like on Lay's and also become rich and famous. The winner will receive a mega prize of whopping Rs. 50 lakh plus 1% of the sales turnover from the new flavour, which will be launched by the end of May 2010. Speaking on this occasion, Saif Ali Khan said, "Just as I have my own take on what flavour I like on Lay's, every Indian has their favourite too. Personally, I am excited how the campaign will go. It has all the ingredients of a great thriller. 'Give Us Your Dillicious Flavour' is being supported by a 360° marketing mix with an idea of consumers expressing their flavour though body art." Maybe, that explains the reason as to why the Prince Khan had some tattoos (read 'body art') on his hand! The entire campaign is being supported by a TVC that has Saif Ali Khan being aggressively pursued by consumers who are body painted as their favourite flavour idea. They're painted as Kachi Ambi or Achaari Baigan or Chilli Cheese. They pop up at him from everywhere, demanding that he pick their flavour till he turns around and tells them to not tell him, but to tell Lay's. All in all, with Saif at the helm of things, one can easily say that 'Lay's is the way to go'. What say, Saif!Source: Indiafm.com Features | 30 Oct 2009 | 4:13 am Review: It's nothing but a dream - Daily News & Analysis

Niraj: Ayan ji, Wake Up Sid is a good film but not as much as we expected from an assistant of greats like Karan Johar and Asutosh Gowarikar. 15-20 minutes into the film I could predict the screenplay and the climax of the film. I hope as you said in Screen Newspaper Interview that after seeing films of Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy & Manmohan Desai films you make better Hindi Films and won't follow Hollywood as you have done in Wake Up Sid. Its my humble suggestion that do watch Raj Kapoor Films and you will feel that with a message how can commercial cinema be made with song and dance and showmanship. Ayan Mukerji: niraj, i hear you sir. Will definitely make an effort to watch all those movies... hopefully, you'll like my next film more :-) priya64: how old are u? You seem very young to be a director? Did u always want to get into directing? Ayan Mukerji: that's a good question. it was because i always wanted to be a film-maker and it was a wrong call i think to join engineering school in the first place. But at that point, I was still figuring out how to break into the industry correctly... Jassi13: but how did u break into the industry? Ayan Mukerji: jassi... it's a very long and boring answer to that question... to sum it up, i have some family in Bollywood, then i worked as an assistant director for a few years... and then i made this movie! yup! Jassi13: How is Karan Johar as your mentor and producer? Ayan Mukerji: Karan Johar... before being a mentor and a producer... is a friend. He is like an older family member in my life. I think that affection and sense of protection that you feel from someone in your family is always a part of our professional relationship as well. That makes it very nice. I think that affection and sense of protection that you feel from someone in your family is always a part of our professional relationship as well. That makes it very nice. Saurabh: Hi Ayan..Heard great things about the movie..goin wth fr tonite. Ayan Mukerji: hope you enjoy it saurabh. Jassi13: Are you happy and satisfied with the positive response for Wake Up Sid? Ayan Mukerji: yes, i am happy. But more than happiness, what I feel is just relief! Lot of responsibility one carries for other people when one makes a movie... I'm so thankful to have that burden lifted off with the positive response! Maybe now they'll actually let me make another movie :-) that feels good. Minalh: did u have Ranbir in mind from the start? Ayan Mukerji: yes, i always had Ranbir in mind. Priya64: what's ur take on Reality shows on TV? Would u ever be part of it if u are offered one? Ayan Mukerji: i think reality shows are great fun to watch sometimes though I've had no time for them in the last 2 years. But i would never be a part of one ever. I'm too private a person for that. priya64: do u have any siblings? are u married?? Ayan Mukerji: i have 2 sisters, well technically, half-sisters... and no, i am not married! Minalh: did u expect Wake up Sid to get the success its getting now? Ayan Mukerji: minalh... to be honest, and i don't mean to sound pompous at all so don't take it the wrong way, but yes i did think Wake up Sid would work with audiences... or at least a certain kind of audience. Lot of money and time at stake on a movie... would never have made it if I didn't think it could be successful. Soham: tell something about ur dream film..do u like the concept of remaking a film? Ayan Mukerji: remakes don't really excite me... I think its because although i love watching movies... with my own movies, i'm not that interested in following or drawing from other movies... I'm more interested in drawing from life, or my sense of life to be more precise... does that make sense to you? Soham: how any young star with no filmy family background can enter in the industry? Ayan Mukerji: honestly soham, there isn't any one answer to that question. I think the trick is to set a goal for oneself... however small it maybe... and then just do everything to make it happen! I think the trick is to set a goal for oneself... however small it maybe... and then just do everything to make it happen! priya64: which of the khans is ur fav and why?? Ayan Mukerji: Shah Rukh Khan! Hands down! i can't sum up why in words... I've always just loved him! FenilSeta: Saw WAKE UP SID on Friday and loved the film a lot. It is still lingering in my mind! Hats off! Ayan Mukerji: thank you so much fenilseta! Big smile on my face! Niraj: Ayan ji, I would be highly obliged if you convey my message to Karan Johar Saab. I am a great fan and admirer of him and I am extremely disappointed and hurt that such a great man like him goes to a leader of a political group folding his hands (as shown on tv news channels) and apologizing. He should have apologized on TV or in a press-conference. We are in awe of him and he has hurt a lot of fans like me by this. Thank you. Ayan Mukerji: niraj, i will convey your message to karan. But you should understand that he did what he felt he needed to do at that point to protect our film. it is not possible to understand from the outside sometimes how much a film means to the people who have created it. Its like having a baby or something. And when someone threatens to hurt Jassi13: Would you love to direct thrillers like Abbas Mustan? Ayan Mukerji: jassi... i would love to direct thrillers but honestly i'm not sure I'm capable of it yet. still, lots of learning on the roads ahead... at some point in life, maybe... Benu: how did u go abt directing this movie any inspiration?? Ayan Mukerji: benu, the inspiration was simple. it was to write a movie about characters and situations and feelings that i personally understood and could totally relate to. Somewhere in Wake up Sid, are bits and pieces of my life therefore. Everything else was an offshoot of that initial feeling. Benu: how did u go abt directing this movie any inspiration?? Are you satisfied with his review? Ayan Mukerji: Taran was very kind to us with his review. yup i'm happy with it. priya64: did u take up any special courses for direction?? Or was it just after assisting u decided u wanted to direct a movie? Ayan Mukerji: priya, i learnt everything i know on the job.... two movies as an assistant director and a few tv commercials... N_Vashi: don't you think the word 'Bombay' has been used all the time in the film and not at least once the name 'Mumbai' I think if Niranjan Iyengar would have used both these names then it would have been a little more justified even though I don't agree with the fuss about the name of cities Ayan Mukerji: actually, Mumbai has been used in the film as well. The magazine is called 'Mumbai beat Sojib: is "WAKE UP SID" resembles ur life? Ayan Mukerji: sojib, Wake up Sid doesn't resemble my life in a very conscious or direct fashion... i was very far from being a failure in academics...but there are parts of life as i understand it that are there in the film. the characters and situations are not me, but they are close to me. priya64: are u computer savvy?? do u tweet or have an face book account? Ayan Mukerji: I'm savvy.... but i don't do face book or twitter... it's a bit of a conscious decision... i feel like it takes up too much time in your life... and i would rather devote it to other pursuits... but i keep hearing that I'm missing out. People seem to be having a lot of fun out there. Ayan Mukerji: thank you for logging in. i hope you guys enjoyed the film, and for those who didn't... well, next time perhaps i'll get you on my side :-)Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 8:13 am Abhay Deol enthralls audiences at the 11th Osian's Cinefan Film FestivalAbhay Deol, who impressed one and all with his superlative performance in Dev D earlier this year, took part in the second New Stream Panel discussion at the ongoing 11th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival. The talented actor, who has created a niche for himself doing off-beat roles time and again, was present at the New Stream Panel discussion along with his Dev D co-star Kalki and director Anurag Kashyap. The New Stream Panel discussion is a new introduction in the Festival, where crew members of some off-beat films made in the mainstream genre share their insights with the audience. Speaking at the discussion, Abhay said, "I was able to emote well in the film because Anurag gave me the freedom to do things naturally and spontaneously." Abhay also said that festivals like Osian's Cinefan Film Festival provide a perfect platform to serious actors like himself who do not fit in the larger-than-life roles and are not picked up by makers of art cinema who think he belongs to commercial cinema. The actor, apart from his acting assignments, is also busy with his production house- Forbidden Films, which is all set to make an action film called Basra set in the Iraqi city of the same name.Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 7:56 am Tamannaah eyes National AwardTamannaah, one of the high-paid actresses in Tamil cinema, is right now focusing on her acting career and says she wants to win a National Award.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 7:29 am Ranbir Kapoor rushes to Goa for Katrina's rescueIt's so hard to capture the very essence of what makes Goa irresistible, we all know the beaches, the fenny, the laid back lifestyle, but it's the romance, the charisma, the intoxicating feeling of this exotic locale that Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani tries to build into its story line. The Rajkumar Santoshi film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif is all about fun, romance and feeling good- same things that Goa stands for. So what's the couple doing in Goa? We heard that Ranbir plays the knight in shining armour as he heads down to Goa to save his lady love Katrina, in the film, who is being held captive there. In his true superman avatar (Prem from the film posters), Ranbir goes in for some must watch action moves and rescues the damsel in distress and rides away on, no not a stallion, but a Enfield Bullet. This shot, as we are further told, is a prelude to the action and song sequences, while the rest of the film is shot in the quaint town of Ooty, the lovely songs in the film are shot in mystic Turkey. With a striking star cast and picturesque sites, it's definitely one film worth the watch.Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 6:49 am Sanjay Dutt and Kangna Ranaut in Mani Shankar's Knock Out50-year old Sanjay Dutt has been shooting with 20-something Kangna Ranaut. And if they were looking super-compatible in spite of Kangna being half of Dutt's age, it's all because of Dutt's special ketosis-based diet. Says a source close to Dutt, "Sanjay went on this special diet in June. It required him to take lots and lots of fattie food and no carbohydrates at all. In fact carbs would've been potentially lethal for this diet. In no time Sanjay started losing weight. And that too without Sanju having to give up his favourite food." Today, Dutt is looking trimmer than he did ten years ago. And when he shot with Kangna last week, the camera made them look compatible. Dutt plays an assassin out to get his victim with a sniper rifle in Knock Out. Kangna Ranaut has always had a fascination for assassin heroes. She began her career with Gangster where her assassin-hero was Shiney Ahuja. Now in Mani Shankar's Knock Out, she's again attracted to the killer-hero, this time played by Sanjay Dutt. The two became professionally fond of one another while shooting for the comedy No Problem in Cape Town. When Mani Shankar was looking for a bright intense young actress to play a television journalist it was Dutt who recommended Kangna to the director.Source: Indiafm.com News | 29 Oct 2009 | 4:27 am My role in 'Paathshala' is just about 30-40 minutes: Shahid KapoorShahid Kapoor's "Paathshala", which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 3:52 am The 'real' Satyajit Ray - caught on cameraHe took Indian cinema to the world stage.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 3:14 am 'Dev D' actress Mahie Gill going places in BollywoodPunjabi actress Mahie Gill, who made her mark in Bollywood as Paro in Anurag Kashyap's "Dev D", is on a high as her kitty is full of prestigious projects.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 2:45 am
