Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 8:17 am "Somewhere in Wake up Sid, are bits and pieces of my life" - Ayan MukerjiHe is B-town's latest wonder-kid who struck gold with his very first film Wake Up Sid. We are indeed talking about the young and talented director Ayan Mukerji. Ayan was recently on Bollywood Hungama's celeb chat to interact with his fans and for all those who missed this fun-filled session, here are excerpts of the same. Ayan Mukerji: Hi This is Ayan Mukerji only on Bollywood Hungama.com. Jassi13: Hi, Ayan!! Thanks a lot for making Wake Up Sid! It's a fantastic film! I enjoyed watching it with my parents. Though I'm a girl, there is a bit of Sid in me. Even I'm lazy and irresponsible in life. I'm still being lazy though. I'm trying to change myself these days??? Ayan Mukerji: hi jassi... glad you liked the film, it feels really rewarding...don't stress too much about your life... we've all been through phases where we're taking it easy... it all works out eventually. Jassi13: After Dil Chahta Hai and Jab We Met, Wake Up Sid is the most trendsetting movie!! Please always direct more refreshing flicks like Wake Up Sid!..all the best. Ayan Mukerji: I hear you jassi. Thank you. Jassi13: After Dil Chahta Hai and Jab We Met, Wake Up Sid is the most trendsetting movie!! Please always direct more refreshing flicks like Wake Up Sid!..all the best. Ayan Mukerji: I hear you jassi. Thank you. Jassi13: There's a bit of Akash of Dil Chahta Hai in Sid of Wake Up Sid! Do you agree? Ayan Mukerji: 1er... ya i see what you mean in a sense... but then again, there is a little bit of Sameer and Sid in him too! priya64: hi ayan! I'm looking forward to watching Wake Up Sid! Whats ur fav song from the movie? Ayan Mukerji: kya karoon is my fav priya. Jassi13: What's next after Wake Up Sid? Ayan Mukerji: lots of travel and reading and movies jassi :-) priya64: how was it working with Ranbir?? Ayan Mukerji: Ranbir is just too good to describe in this space! it was the best part of making Wake up... working with him⦠Jassi13: Have you ever interacted with Nikhil Advani, Soham Shah and Tarun Mansukhani - Karan Johar's protegees? Ayan Mukerji: I've only interacted with Tarun... he was associate director on KANK and I worked under him... he's so hard working. It's impossible to keep up with him... have not worked with the rest. Priya64: which other actresses' wud u love to work with and why? Ayan Mukerji: I'd like to work with Kareena Kapoor... she just lights up the screen i think... and she's got a very infectious energy about her... even when she's not at her best, she's incapable of being boring... Niraj: Ayan ji, Wake Up Sid is a good film but not as much as we expected from an assistant of greats like Karan Johar and Asutosh Gowarikar. 15-20 minutes into the film I could predict the screenplay and the climax of the film. I hope as you said in Screen Newspaper Interview that after seeing films of Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy & Manmohan Desai films you make better Hindi Films and won't follow Hollywood as you have done in Wake Up Sid. Its my humble suggestion that do watch Raj Kapoor Films and you will feel that with a message how can commercial cinema be made with song and dance and showmanship. Ayan Mukerji: niraj, i hear you sir. Will definitely make an effort to watch all those movies... hopefully, you'll like my next film more :-) priya64: how old are u? You seem very young to be a director? Did u always want to get into directing? Ayan Mukerji: that's a good question. it was because i always wanted to be a film-maker and it was a wrong call i think to join engineering school in the first place. But at that point, I was still figuring out how to break into the industry correctly... Jassi13: but how did u break into the industry? Ayan Mukerji: jassi... it's a very long and boring answer to that question... to sum it up, i have some family in Bollywood, then i worked as an assistant director for a few years... and then i made this movie! yup! Jassi13: How is Karan Johar as your mentor and producer? Ayan Mukerji: Karan Johar... before being a mentor and a producer... is a friend. He is like an older family member in my life. I think that affection and sense of protection that you feel from someone in your family is always a part of our professional relationship as well. That makes it very nice. Saurabh: Hi Ayan..Heard great things about the movie..goin wth fr tonite. Ayan Mukerji: hope you enjoy it saurabh. Jassi13: Are you happy and satisfied with the positive response for Wake Up Sid? Ayan Mukerji: yes, i am happy. But more than happiness, what I feel is just relief! Lot of responsibility one carries for other people when one makes a movie... I'm so thankful to have that burden lifted off with the positive response! Maybe now they'll actually let me make another movie :-) that feels good. Minalh: did u have Ranbir in mind from the start? Ayan Mukerji: yes, i always had Ranbir in mind. Priya64: what's ur take on Reality shows on TV? Would u ever be part of it if u are offered one? Ayan Mukerji: i think reality shows are great fun to watch sometimes though I've had no time for them in the last 2 years. But i would never be a part of one ever. I'm too private a person for that. priya64: do u have any siblings? are u married?? Ayan Mukerji: i have 2 sisters, well technically, half-sisters... and no, i am not married! Minalh: did u expect Wake up Sid to get the success its getting now? Ayan Mukerji: minalh... to be honest, and i don't mean to sound pompous at all so don't take it the wrong way, but yes i did think Wake up Sid would work with audiences... or at least a certain kind of audience. Lot of money and time at stake on a movie... would never have made it if I didn't think it could be successful. Soham: tell something about ur dream film..do u like the concept of remaking a film? Ayan Mukerji: remakes don't really excite me... I think its because although i love watching movies... with my own movies, i'm not that interested in following or drawing from other movies... I'm more interested in drawing from life, or my sense of life to be more precise... does that make sense to you? Soham: how any young star with no filmy family background can enter in the industry? Ayan Mukerji: honestly soham, there isn't any one answer to that question. I think the trick is to set a goal for oneself... however small it maybe... and then just do everything to make it happen! Soham: how any young star with no filmy family background can enter in the industry? Ayan Mukerji: honestly soham, there isn't any one answer to that question. I think the trick is to set a goal for oneself... however small it maybe... and then just do everything to make it happen! priya64: which of the khans is ur fav and why?? Ayan Mukerji: Shah Rukh Khan! Hands down! i can't sum up why in words... I've always just loved him! FenilSeta: Saw WAKE UP SID on Friday and loved the film a lot. It is still lingering in my mind! Hats off! Ayan Mukerji: thank you so much fenilseta! Big smile on my face! Niraj: Ayan ji, I would be highly obliged if you convey my message to Karan Johar Saab. I am a great fan and admirer of him and I am extremely disappointed and hurt that such a great man like him goes to a leader of a political group folding his hands (as shown on tv news channels) and apologizing. He should have apologized on TV or in a press-conference. We are in awe of him and he has hurt a lot of fans like me by this. Thank you. Ayan Mukerji: niraj, i will convey your message to karan. But you should understand that he did what he felt he needed to do at that point to protect our film. it is not possible to understand from the outside sometimes how much a film means to the people who have created it. Its like having a baby or something. And when someone threatens to hurt Jassi13: Would you love to direct thrillers like Abbas Mustan? Ayan Mukerji: jassi... i would love to direct thrillers but honestly i'm not sure I'm capable of it yet. still, lots of learning on the roads ahead... at some point in life, maybe... Benu: how did u go abt directing this movie any inspiration?? Ayan Mukerji: benu, the inspiration was simple. it was to write a movie about characters and situations and feelings that i personally understood and could totally relate to. Somewhere in Wake up Sid, are bits and pieces of my life therefore. Everything else was an offshoot of that initial feeling. Benu: how did u go abt directing this movie any inspiration?? Are you satisfied with his review? Ayan Mukerji: Taran was very kind to us with his review. yup i'm happy with it. priya64: did u take up any special courses for direction?? Or was it just after assisting u decided u wanted to direct a movie? Ayan Mukerji: priya, i learnt everything i know on the job.... two movies as an assistant director and a few tv commercials... N_Vashi: don't you think the word 'Bombay' has been used all the time in the film and not at least once the name 'Mumbai' I think if Niranjan Iyengar would have used both these names then it would have been a little more justified even though I don't agree with the fuss about the name of cities Ayan Mukerji: actually, Mumbai has been used in the film as well. The magazine is called 'Mumbai beat Sojib: is "WAKE UP SID" resembles ur life? Ayan Mukerji: sojib, Wake up Sid doesn't resemble my life in a very conscious or direct fashion... i was very far from being a failure in academics...but there are parts of life as i understand it that are there in the film. the characters and situations are not me, but they are close to me. priya64: are u computer savvy?? do u tweet or have an face book account? Ayan Mukerji: I'm savvy.... but i don't do face book or twitter... it's a bit of a conscious decision... i feel like it takes up too much time in your life... and i would rather devote it to other pursuits... but i keep hearing that I'm missing out. People seem to be having a lot of fun out there. Ayan Mukerji: thank you for logging in. i hope you guys enjoyed the film, and for those who didn't... well, next time perhaps i'll get you on my side :-)Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 8:13 am I cried while watching Paathshala: Shahid

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 8:04 am Abhay Deol enthralls audiences at the 11th Osian's Cinefan Film FestivalAbhay Deol, who impressed one and all with his superlative performance in Dev D earlier this year, took part in the second New Stream Panel discussion at the ongoing 11th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival. The talented actor, who has created a niche for himself doing off-beat roles time and again, was present at the New Stream Panel discussion along with his Dev D co-star Kalki and director Anurag Kashyap. The New Stream Panel discussion is a new introduction in the Festival, where crew members of some off-beat films made in the mainstream genre share their insights with the audience. Speaking at the discussion, Abhay said, "I was able to emote well in the film because Anurag gave me the freedom to do things naturally and spontaneously." Abhay also said that festivals like Osian's Cinefan Film Festival provide a perfect platform to serious actors like himself who do not fit in the larger-than-life roles and are not picked up by makers of art cinema who think he belongs to commercial cinema. The actor, apart from his acting assignments, is also busy with his production house- Forbidden Films, which is all set to make an action film called Basra set in the Iraqi city of the same name.Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 7:56 am Tamannaah eyes National AwardTamannaah, one of the high-paid actresses in Tamil cinema, is right now focusing on her acting career and says she wants to win a National Award.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 7:29 am Preview: London DreamsMassive stage settings, rock concerts and music as a binding factor, Ajay Devgn-Salman Khan starrer London Dreams, relies on the bond of friendship more than its rock background.Source: | 29 Oct 2009 | 7:12 am Ranbir Kapoor rushes to Goa for Katrina's rescueIt's so hard to capture the very essence of what makes Goa irresistible, we all know the beaches, the fenny, the laid back lifestyle, but it's the romance, the charisma, the intoxicating feeling of this exotic locale that Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani tries to build into its story line. The Rajkumar Santoshi film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif is all about fun, romance and feeling good- same things that Goa stands for. So what's the couple doing in Goa? We heard that Ranbir plays the knight in shining armour as he heads down to Goa to save his lady love Katrina, in the film, who is being held captive there. In his true superman avatar (Prem from the film posters), Ranbir goes in for some must watch action moves and rescues the damsel in distress and rides away on, no not a stallion, but a Enfield Bullet. This shot, as we are further told, is a prelude to the action and song sequences, while the rest of the film is shot in the quaint town of Ooty, the lovely songs in the film are shot in mystic Turkey. With a striking star cast and picturesque sites, it's definitely one film worth the watch.Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 6:49 am Ranbir, Katrina end WIFW grand finale in style

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 29 Oct 2009 | 5:39 am "Salman and I cracked London Dreams in first 20 minutes" - Vipul ShahIt's a known fact that when it comes to Salman Khan, he is good when he wants to be good and comes across as plain lazy when he opts to do so. We saw his former self in Wanted where he ate up the screen with his performance. On the other hand, audiences had the misfortune of seeing his opposite persona in Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. So what kind of Salman did Vipul get in London Dreams? After all, for the filmmaker who has only worked with Akshay Kumar as the leading man in each of his films in the past, it was a matter of creating a tuning with someone who is known for his performance varying as per his liking of the project. Well, if Vipul Shah is to be believed, Salman Khan wanted him to drive the entire show and followed his vision while coming up with his own interpretation, as required. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the man who is riding high on the success of four back to back hits - Aankhen, Waqt - Race Against Time, Namastey London, Singh Is Kinng - and is now opening a new chapter in his life with a dramatic romantic musical London Dreams with Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Asin. The fate of any film can be known in the first few hours of the first day of shooting itself Did you ever worry that from which side of the bed would Salman wake up on the first day of the shoot of London Dreams? [Laughs] There wasn't anything like that. Once you sign an actor, you know what to expect and how to get that. Also, the fate of any film can be known in the first few hours of the first day of shooting itself. My experience tells me that. You get to know if an actor is trying to be dominating. Or if he doesn't quite turn out to be the person that you were expecting. You also start getting worried about the fact that whether your decision has backfired. Both an actor as well as the director may not be able to pinpoint the exact pain area but yes, the first few hours are very crucial in a relationship. Given the fact that Salman is going all out for the promotion of London Dreams as well, just as was the case with Wanted, I guess it can be safely assumed that it was a good beginning after all for your relationship with him. [Smiles] That's true, both of us cracked the essence, spirit and treatment of London Dreams in first 20 minutes itself. I remember the scene that was required to be shot. It featured Salman and Asin in front of a lit up Eiffel Tower. While I was reading the scene to him, he was quietly listening to me. Once I was through, he just said one thing to me which gave me quite a high. Something like this coming from a man who has been a leading man for 20 years now was wonderful. Ajay is very knowledgeable and visualises everything about the scene before coming up with his take And what exactly did he say? He said - 'Vipul, I always believe that if the director can read the scene with absolutely correct pitch and intensity, the actor finds it good to go from there on. So this is the way we would go from here. You read every scene to me and tell me how you want it to be performed. I would then further interpret it and take it on from there.' He was all for the movie from there on. How did the scene eventually go? He did it in absolutely the same manner as I had envisaged and came up with a bang-on performance. From there on, we didn't have to discuss anything other than the scenes to follow. The entire shooting from there on went smoothly. How about Ajay? He is also quite intense once the camera starts rolling. Do we get to see trademark Ajay intensity? That's right, you will actually get to see Ajay in the kind of performance for which he was roped in. I also have to highlight another facet of his acting. Since he is also a director, he is very clear about what a filmmaker would be expecting from him. Also, he is technically one of the strongest people I have come across. He knows everything about filmmaking and that reflects in his act. He is very knowledgeable and visualises everything about the scene before coming up with his take. Since I had such experienced men on board, I didn't have to do much explanation for him on a scene to scene basis. When Wanted is still going strong despite competition, then why can't others too follow suit? You aren't coming alone though. There is Aladin along with you and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Jail, Aao Wish Karein, Tum Mile, Kurbaan and De Dana Dan following in weeks to come. Isn't that scary? As I said earlier, it's an unfortunate clogging of films. I still wish to see a silver lining though. See, if there are back to back four-five good films then it only gives audiences some enthusiasm to see more films. They start feeling that since this week's movie was good, let me check out the release of next week. It makes him gain confidence about quality of cinema. However, the moment he catches a bad film, he starts wondering if shelling out money again would be a good idea. This is why I sincerely hope that all the newer movies are good films and they perform well. When Wanted, in spite of being in the running for so many weeks now, is still going strong despite competition, then why can't others too follow suit?Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 5:29 am Horror, thriller, romance, drama - It's a new beginning for Rahul BoseTalented Rahul Bose has learnt his lesson. He understands that a movie like Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam could well be termed as a faux pas in his Bollywood career and he could well start working in diverse genres that give him enough space and opportunity to act better. No wonder, he is currently doing films that are spread across various genres like horror, romance, drama and even social awareness. "I don't have any problems admitting that last year I acted very poorly in Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam. What's the point of sticking on to something unnecessarily and defending it when you know deep down your heart that you haven't quite done justice to your own self as an actor", says Rahul who was also seen in Shaurya, Tahaan and Dil Kabaddi last year. Except for Before The Rains, Rahul hasn't been seen much in 2009 and as things stand, there won't be any of his films releasing in the remaining months too. "That's because entire 2009 was spent in shooting for various films. I have completed four films and all of them should release next year", says Rahul who has a drawn a different game plan for himself by picking up diverse genres. "I am most excited about The Japanese Wife because honestly, it is by far the best thing that could have happened to me", gushes Rahul about this Aparna Sen directed film that also stars Chigasu Takaku, Raima Sen and Moushmi Chatterjee, "I have got an opportunity to enact the role of someone who progresses from being a 18 to 50 year old. I play a school teacher based in rural Bengal. I am looking forward to the January 2010 release of the film." From a rural background, Rahul has also managed to jump into the boardroom of a corporate house, courtesy his film You Are Fired. "You Are Fired is a psychological horror thriller and it was quite some experience shooting for it", Rahul talks about the film where he plays the role of a rich COO of an international corporate house, "It's a Hinglish film directed by Sajid Warrier." From horror, Rahul moves on to get into some sensitive drama for Omar, a film by Onir where he enacts the role of a gay. In addition to that, he also gets to romance with Shefali Shah in Vipul Shah's Kucch Love Jaisa. "Kucch Love Jaisa is a very sweet and tender tale", smiles Rahul, "I play somebody who is at the lowest level in the underworld and falls in love with Shefali. I am particularly confident about my performance in films like these because as an actor, you always know if and when you have screwed up. I got that feeling in Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam but I feel quite positive about the newer lot of films that I am doing." Meanwhile, one wonders what happened to his other film Mumbai Chaka Chak which was earlier stated for release last year. "What I know is that now Mumbai Chaka Chak would be brought out as a joint effort between Mahindra, BMC and Suneil Shetty who has been the film's producer from Day 1", informs Rahul, "I normally don't do message oriented films but I did this one because I love Mumbai. It has a clear and simple message around doing something for the city if you really love it." Further talking about this film directed by Sanjay Jha (who has made Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye and Strings in the past), Rahul says, "The makers are looking at the best way to put the film on front of audiences. You have to pitch movies like these quite smartly."Source: Indiafm.com Features | 29 Oct 2009 | 5:21 am MJ's movie weaves a fascinating taleMichael Jackson's This Is It can be called the first concert rehearsal movie ever. And if they were looking super-compatible in spite of Kangna being half of Dutt's age, it's all because of Dutt's special ketosis-based diet. Says a source close to Dutt, "Sanjay went on this special diet in June. It required him to take lots and lots of fattie food and no carbohydrates at all. In fact carbs would've been potentially lethal for this diet. In no time Sanjay started losing weight. And that too without Sanju having to give up his favourite food." Today, Dutt is looking trimmer than he did ten years ago. And when he shot with Kangna last week, the camera made them look compatible. Dutt plays an assassin out to get his victim with a sniper rifle in Knock Out. Kangna Ranaut has always had a fascination for assassin heroes. She began her career with Gangster where her assassin-hero was Shiney Ahuja. Now in Mani Shankar's Knock Out, she's again attracted to the killer-hero, this time played by Sanjay Dutt. The two became professionally fond of one another while shooting for the comedy No Problem in Cape Town. When Mani Shankar was looking for a bright intense young actress to play a television journalist it was Dutt who recommended Kangna to the director.Source: Indiafm.com News | 29 Oct 2009 | 4:27 am Ranbir, Katrina end WIFW grand finale in style - NDTV.com

Aishwarya too will be singing for the film. A source reveals, ''This isn't the first time Hrithik and Aishwarya will croon for a film. In the past, Ash has sung for Josh along with Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik made his singing debut with Kites. The song will be recorded by director Bhansali who is also composing the film's music.'' The source continues, ''It was Bhansali's idea to get them exercising their vocal chords. Initially both were a little apprehensive but after sitting with the director and talking about the song, both gave a green signal. Hrithik-Ash pairing was always going to be one to watch out for - especially after their sizzling Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar chemistry and this film just makes it all the more interesting with them singing in it too. Apart from singing the duo are also learning Portuguese for the film.'' In Guzaarish, Hrithik plays a paraplegic suffering from impairments of the motor and sensory functions of the lower limbs. Aishwarya Rai plays his nurse in the movie.Source: Indiafm.com News | 28 Oct 2009 | 9:29 am Abhay Deol turns producer, his first film will be action flick titled BasraDeols of Bollywood are synonymous to action, just as Kapoors are synonymous to romance. But one Deol boy took the high road. He did the unexpected and did every kind of role but action oriented, that boy was Abhay Deol. The unconventional hero of Bollywood, now has his own production company called, 'Forbidden Films' that is expected to make films that are not typical to Bollywood. Their first venture is the film titled Basra, which is going to see Abhay as the action hero. So, the Deol boy is going to carry on the family tradition by bashing people up on screen. One wonders if it is a well thought out strategy as this is his first film as a producer. Abhay states that action, comedy and romance are safe genres and when one becomes a producer, he needs to be cautious and read the market. But this does not mean that he is following Dharmendra or brother Sunny's footsteps, he clarifies that if others think that he is fit to do only certain kind of movies, he will make movies in which he gets to be different.Source: Indiafm.com News | 28 Oct 2009 | 8:36 am I don't look poor so I don't get work: Rakshanda KhanPopular actor-anchor Rakshanda Khan says she has been on a forced sabbatical from the small screen because television is full of village-based shows and producers complain that she is too glamorous to fit their scripts.Source: Entertainment News | 28 Oct 2009 | 8:09 am John feeling red over Blue rumoursJohn Abraham is upset with Blue director Anthony D’Souza for spreading false rumours about him starring in his two upcoming movies - Blue 2 and Aerial.Source: | 28 Oct 2009 | 6:27 am 'Basra' will be out of the box: Abhay DeolAs an actor he loves to experiment and as he turns producer with "Basra", Abhay Deol promises to be high on content.Source: Entertainment News | 28 Oct 2009 | 5:10 am Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif to walk for Rohit BalToday, Wednesday (October 28), Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor will walk the ramp in Delhi for designer Rohit Bal at the conclusion of the Couture Week in Delhi. Aamir also bares his soul, frank as ever, "Here, on Facebook, I was trying to be anonymous so that anyone I interact with treats me like a normal guy.
