Source: Entertainment - Google News | 24 Oct 2009 | 1:14 pm Subhash Ghai invites the Who's Who of Bollywood at his birthday bash tonight
Subhash Ghai hasn't been called the Showman for nothing. On his 65th birthday on Saturday evening, Ghai pulled off what the original Showman Raj Kapoor had done in Mera Naam Joker. In the declining year of his long and chequered career, Ghai invited all the actors from all his films beginning with Kalicharan and concluding with Black & White and Yuvvraaj in 2008.
From the newbies like Katrina Kaif and Zayed Khan (Yuvvraaj) to the more senior stalwarts like Rishi Kapoor, Tina Ambani(Karz) and Reena Roy (Kalicharan), they were all expected to make the evening memorable for the filmmaker.
The breathtaking guestlist that was expected to be seen at the Hyatt read like the who's who of the Mumbai entertainment industry. From Ghai's close friend and adopted family members, Shatrughan Sinha and his Poonam to foe-turned-friend Salman Khan, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor to Vivek Mushran and Apoorva Agnihotri and Anurag Sinhaâ¦.all the successful and not-so-successful Ghai heroes were expected to be present at an evening of nostalgia and restrospection.
Then of course there was the gallery of Ghai's heroines from Manisha Koirala and Mahima Chowdhary to the more recent discoveries Isha Sharvani and Aditi Sharma, the ladies were all expected to be present.
Ghai had sent out personal hand-written letters to all the invitees, a la Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker. Two of the most significant Ghai heroine Meenakshi Sheshadri and Madhuri Dixit couldn't make it as they live abroad.
The star-spangled night promised to bring Dilip Kumar, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan under the same roof.
Said Ghai on the morning of the big bash, "But it wasn't about the stars. It was about my emotional tie with the people I worked with. Ideally I'd want all my actors and technicians to be there. I've invited everyone not to show off and talk about my films but to share a quiet evening with the people who contributed to my life."
Coincidentally(one would hope), Shilpa Shetty decided to get engaged on Saturday at her fiancé Raj Kundra's residence, the same evening when Subhash Ghai planned the biggest bash of his evening inviting the (Anil Kapoor) to (Zayed Khan) of the film industry to share his moment of glory.
Guests common to both the functions were put into a quandary, specially so since the timing for both the events was the same.
Adnan Sami who was invited to both the functions intended to attend both."I can't miss Subhashji's function. I'm not only an artiste associated with his cinema, I'm also a part of Mumbai's entertainment industry. He is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures of the Indian entertainment industry. At the same time, it is the most important day of Shilpa's life. So I'll scamper from the one to another."
Another actor however had no intention of extending such generosity over his time. "Who is the more glamorous and happening host of the evening? Who wants to watch an over-the-hill filmmaker preening over his past glory?"Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Oct 2009 | 11:02 am Anurag Sinha to marry girlfriend Nov 19

The admirer's of Soha Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore are in a real treat. The mother-daughter duo has made their first appearance together on screen for a film called Life Goes On, by debutante director Sangeeta Dutta, which will be screened at the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF).
Life Goes On which has the shadow of Shakespeare's King Lear bears on this contemporary and free adaptation. It works functionally as a sub-text in the film as we
see Sanjay and Dia within the contours of the mythical Lear and Cordelia.
The film is set in London and revolves around Sanjay (Girish Karnad), his deceased wife (Sharmila Tagore) and three daughters. His shattered life goes through more turmoil
when Dia (played by Soha Ali Khan) the youngest daughter falls in love with a Muslim man.
The 11th Mumbai Film Festival starts from 29th October to 5th November.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Oct 2009 | 7:53 am John Abraham pushes 'haath gadi' on reality show
John Abraham, who's known to be a sports enthusiast, is rubbing of his love onto the contestants of 'Big Switch', the upcoming reality TV show. John, who is known to be big on bikes, did the most unlikely of things; he flagged off a haath gadi race for the contestants. Which, when you factor in the theme of
the show, should not be a big surprise. 'Big Switch' is not about fancy stuff like bikes, it's about simple living and surviving without material pleasures.
The show brings together 10 rich kids from across the country and pairs them up with the slum kids who act as buddies to them as they struggle to survive sans luxury. The event saw John in the company of Natasha Suri (ex Miss India) & Rekha (her partner), Pooja Misra (Model) & Shabana, Adam Bedi (Actor) & Bhavesh, Sunny Sara
(Industrialist) & Abhishek. John was like a morale booster for the contestants as he encouraged them to believe in their dreams.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Oct 2009 | 7:22 am "My character in London Dreams has grey shades" - Ajay Devgn
After having started out as an action hero few years ago, today Ajay Devgn is a master of all genres be it action, romance, drama or comedy. His latest comic caper All The Best, which opened during the Diwali weekend, has struck gold at the B.O. and its no wonder then that Ajay (who is also the producer of the film) is laughing all the way to the bank.

Tired bored and impatient with traditional ways of promoting films, Vipul Shah has thought up a novel method of taking London Dreams to the audience.
Vipul is in the middle of arranging two open-air rock concerts at two venues Mumbai and Delhi next week, most probably on Oct 27 and Oct 28. The concerts will feature Ajay Devgan, Salman, Khan Asin in concert with musicians Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The stars will perform in front of thousands of fans amidst the highest and most foolproof security bandobast.
Says Vipul, ''We don't want any security lapses. Our stars will be completely safe on stage. They will be performing not only to the songs from London Dreams. We're also looking at
staging some of Salman and Ajay's biggest hits.''
Bollywood stars have never gone on stage to perform at live rock concerts. Vipul corrects that perception, ''Recently a similar thing happened with Rock On when the entire cast performed live. Many years ago Mukul Anand got Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Salman Khan on stage for the promotion of Dus. So these London Dreams concerts will be deja vu for Salman.''
The stars have already started preparing for the two live concerts. While performing live for Salman is not a new experience, Ajay suffers from stage fright and has never done concert tours. He is making a special effort to face the roaring crowds in Mumbai and Delhi next week. Ajay has been getting used to crowds and feels he can do it.
Revealing plans for the twin explosions in the two metropolises, Vipul Shah says, ''It will be a huge event in both the cities. I am still to finalize the venues because we expect a turn-out of at least 3000 - 4000 people. It would be no-ticket free-entry affair, so you can call it priceless experiences.''
Vipul scoffs at tradition ways of promoting his film. ''In how many ways will Ajay and Salman be asked the same thing? Salman is invariably asked about Katrina and Shah Rukh Khan instead of the film. So I see no point in the traditional media interactions. Besides both the actors have done enough media in the last two months for their other films. Since London Dreams is about on-stage experiences the rock concerts seemed like a good idea.''
After the concerts in Mumbai and Delhi, Vipul intends to stage similar live performances in the other metropolises.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Oct 2009 | 5:12 am Nothing funny about 'Fruit And Nut' (IANS Movie Review, Rating: *1/2) - Sify

He is the only man in India who can get away with calling the President of America, Mr Barack Obama, a black man. Does anyone take him seriously? No. Yes, that's right. It's hard to say when he is and when he isn't. And to make a living, this is what he does best: as a comic actor, he tightropes between honesty and sarcasm and never falls: he does embarrassing things but he doesn't embarrass the audience; he's willing to make a fool of himself, but he never looks like a fool; and he mocks people and
phenomena for whom mockery is the highest tribute. After his best work, you don't just want to applaud-you want to wolf-whistle and hold a lighter up in the air. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel spoke to Cyrus Broacha on the phone. For reasons unclear to me, he decided he should talk about sex, insanity, cricket, obsession of seeing Kunal Vijaykar in a saree and his fixation with the South Mumbai location and his hope to line
maro Dia Mirza some day. For some, he is a man with a funny bone, a cracked-up-in-his-head guy. And then there are those who call him their hero. I fall in the latter brigade.
Your second film after 99. You sure it's going to complete a ton?
No no no. I want to play this game and retire.
How nutty are you in real life?
Right now, it's difficult to say because I don't like men. I can't stand them. But as far as Kunal is concerned, he is definitely more fruity and nutty.
I'm sure this isn't the end of your acting career?
No re! Never. I want to work more in South Mumbai. I can't travel two hours everyday up and down, North to South. We shot 99 mostly in South Mumbai and half the film in Delhi. It's easier for me to get to Delhi than to travel all the way to Andheri and shoot. Kunal and I have the same habits. We both love to shoot in South Mumbai. My kids tell me, ''Daddy, you have to work''. I'm thinking, when I didn't have them, I was working to have them. When I have them, it's still the same.

Elated at bagging this honour, Sabbir said, "I am very happy Kambakkht Ishq is continuing to bag laurels even months after its release, that the effort put in to exploit a location authentically and grandiosely has been appreciated and awarded. It was indeed an overwhelming experience collecting this award in front of many industry stalwarts."
