Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 12 Oct 2009 | 5:26 am "Sorry, but morally right people are unexciting for me" - Suparn Verma
With Acid Factory, filmmaker Suparn Verma has (for second time in a row after his debut effort Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena) explored the darker side of human psychology. One would have expected that by bringing together seven diverse characters on a common platform, he would get a story running that would mainly be visually appealing with action and style holding centre-stage. However, after watching Acid Factory, it is quite obvious that this effort by Suparn has a deep rooted theme to it that goes beyond action and style.
"I am glad that people are noticing that as well. While making Acid Factory, I wanted to be quite sure that there is a definite storyline running as well. It wasn't a cool looking commercial that I was shooting that had to get the job done in those few seconds. It needed to have a solid substance to the proceedings and by placing all my characters on the borderline of morality, my ground was set", says Suparn who has used the theme of momentary amnesia in his action thriller that has seen good critical response coming its way.
Explaining his stance on morality debate, Suparn reasons, "I love talking to people who are not really morally right. In fact I am sorry to say but morally right people are very unexciting for me. They are like stuck records. With a movie like Acid Factory, you can play around with the characterization of actors and structure it all in a massive way. This is why I love to challenge morality as it gets you in a zone where you don't know whether the guy in front of you is good or bad."
Since the release of the film, one thing that has been unanimously accepted is the fact that visually, Suparn along with his technical crew (most importantly action director Tinu Verma) have got some superb action sequences rolling.
"That's because making thrillers is my strength. It is my forte and I have an eye for what would look cutting edge on the big screen", he responds in an unabashed manner, "I love shooting my actors in a stylized way. I like my women to look gorgeous and sexy while my men have to be stylish."
Does that mean he would continue to make thrillers all his life? "Don't forget that I wrote India's first bona fide adult comedy Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai", he chuckles, "I like love stories as well and I already have two scripts ready that I plan to convert into movies soon."
For the moment though, his heart continues to beat for thrillers, especially after the positive response he has got from those who have watched the film and his colleagues from the industry.
"I see life in terms of grey instead of black and white. Thrillers give me lot of options to play around this particular colour", he defends his choice of genre, "In a love story too, I can play around with the narrative but still, whether you like the character or not, at the end of the day you have to root for them to be together. However, in case of a thriller, you want someone to die. This is where the whole fun begins!"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 12 Oct 2009 | 5:19 am When Kareena hurt her leg, Salman swooped her into his arms & carried her
So far we've only heard horror stories of Salman's misbehavior with his leading ( read misleading) ladies. But Kareena Kapoor has a different story to tell.
Says Kareena, "Salman has always been very protective. He has been there for me whenever I needed him. That's partly to do with the fact that my sister Karisma is very close friends with Salman and also his favourite co-star."
Every time Kareena shoots with Salman, she feels super-protected and safe. Just how caring a co-star this Khan can be was proven to Kareena recently when they were shooting a romantic song on the Phi Phi Beach in Thailand for his home production Main Aurr Mrs Khanna.
This was the same location where Danny Boyle had shot The Beach with Leonardo Di Caprio. The beach, as anyone who's been there, is not sandy but pebbled. And Kareena had to go bare feet into the water with Salman. But before she could reach even half -way she cut her foot in a sharp pebble rather badly.
Says a source, "Kareena doubled up in pain and almost fell to the ground. Salman reflexively reached for her and swooped her into his arms. And he carried her to the water."
The shot has been retained in the film, although it was never meant to be part of the film.
Says the director Prem Soni, "Throughout the shooting you could see the special bonding that they had. But that day on the Phi Phi Island, it got really special. We came much further into the land from the sea than we imagined .When it was time to go back we realized we had to walk through the pebbled beach and wade into almost head-deep water before reaching our boat. We had to do it. Otherwise we'd have to spend the night on the beach without food or water. Kareena was in this long gown and barefoot. She was in pain. Before we knew it, he swooped her into his arms and carried her into a boat. It was a very romantic-looking moment and we couldn't let it go."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 12 Oct 2009 | 4:09 am Post mortem due on Boyzone singer Gately - Reuters India

Along with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar is sitting pretty in the Top-5 bracket of leading men that we have in Bollywood today. And now the actor, who would soon be seen in Blue, is wondering if he wants to play the role of a hero for the rest of his life. After working in 100 odd movies and playing the role of a hero for more than 90% of his outings, he is now looking at exploring newer challenges. One such challenge is Blue where he proudly proclaims that he is playing the role of a villain.
"Yes, Sanjay Dutt is the hero of the film and I am the villain. Period", Akshay Kumar sets the record straight here when questioned about the two hero theory surrounding the film.
Is he being diplomatic? "No, not at all", he says with a straight face, "I could have easily said that Blue is a film about two heroes but how can I say that when it is not the fact. The subject itself is such that there has to be a hero and a villain in the film. I fill in the slot of the latter."
In his last outing as an out and out villain, Abbas-Mustan directed Ajnabee [2001], he got quite some accolades coming his way. Now he is expected to repeat a similar feat.
"Yes, in Ajnabee Bobby Deol was the hero and I was the villain. I even got a Filmfare award for my performance. It was nice to receive a trophy for playing a villain's role rather than a hero. Then again in Khakee, it was Bachchan saab who was the hero. I had a small part to play in the film, that of a corrupt cop. But I found it interesting and did it", Akshay goes down the memory lane here.
Ever since then, Akshay Kumar has looked at experimenting with his role and played quite a few characters that had grey shades to them. Whether it is Bewafa or his recent release 8X10 Tasveer, he has tried to experiment with his roles and performances.
He also has another special reason for declaring his part in Anthony D'Souza directed Blue as a villain. "I guess it brings certain inquisitiveness amongst the audience when we say that the film has a hero and a villain. It brings in a different kind of excitement", reasons Akshay, "It makes not just audiences look forward to what the film is all about but even an actor. See, for last two odd decades, I have done around 100 odd films and played a hero in most of them. I am tired of playing a hero's role. I want to do something new and 'Blue' gives me that platform."
Another point of discussion surrounding the film has been an alleged cold war between him and Sanjay Dutt that has been on for more than a decade. Since the shooting of Blue commenced (around a year back), there were talks about tension between Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar. While it continued to keep the tabloids happy, it also resulted in some precious time being lost for the actors to justify to the entire world that all was well.
Does he wish to comment on the 'issue'? "I guess we all - and by that I mean people attached to the film as well as the members of the media - have wasted quite some time in all the speculations and rumours. I have already stated that things are absolutely normal between Sanjay Dutt and me. Still people out there seem to be so interested in knowing of there is trouble brewing between us. I wish to state for once and for all that we are good together", he comments.
Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Zayed Khan along with Katrina Kaif and Kylie Minogue, Blue, which is produced by Dhillin Mehta and has music by A.R. Rahman, would be seeing a massive worldwide release on 16th October.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 12 Oct 2009 | 3:25 am Arya to tie the knot?Actor Arya holds a special mention for having linked romantically with his co-stars.
