Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 11 Oct 2009 | 5:19 am Big B brings in birthday with family, Anil and Tina Ambani
This evening, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan drove from the location of Mani Ratnam's film Raavan to bring in the family's patriarch's 67th birthday. The Big B would have it no other way. If it's a family celebration then it has to be spent with the family.
Hours before his son and daughter-in-law were to arrive, the Big B in the middle a dozen commitments said, "I shall be with my family in the night to bring in my birthday. Abhishek and Aishwarya shall drive down from location to be with me."
Big B's close friend and adopted brother had already arrived from Delhi to Mumbai for the birthday. "Amar Singhji is here already and Anil and Tina Ambani and Aishwarya's parents Krishnarajji and Vrindaji, will join me. That is it. I am happy when family gets together. The 11th I shall be at home and perhaps a quiet family dinner will follow."
That apart, the Big B insists the birthday would be just another day. "Yes another day another year. I am grateful and feel blessed that it means something special for those around me. The Almighty and the prayers of my loved ones and those of the millions that have supported me are to be thanked. It is because of them that I breathe and exist."
Looking back during the year, the mega-star says he has no thoughts on the year that has gone by. "I really have no recollection of what went by. I know what I am doing now. Age does have this adverse effect on one and I am no different from any other. It may seem power- packed for you but for me it is just another day, another job. I endeavour to do what is assigned to me to the best of my ability."
His birthday thoughts are more about the world around him than himself. "I wish, much like all else for there to be peace and harmony. For humans to understand that we are all one and that we all have common characteristics. To understand that all faiths need to be respected, for none of them are different in their beliefs. That we are one nation, united by our independence and our sovereignty. That this world we live in belongs to all of us and we need to protect it for its survival. That a kind word and a smile never did harm anyone. That a fragrant flower decorates our lives more than the vicious odour of hate."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Oct 2009 | 5:02 am Sweet success - Hindustan Times

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 10 Oct 2009 | 5:20 pm Wishing Amitabh Bachchan a very happy Birthday
The Angry young man of Bollywood is one who has had the kind of success rate, one only dreams of. To call him a superstar could easily be the understatement of the century because the status he holds is one that is indefinable and simply indisputable. Where for the industry wallas he would be a mentor, for the aam janta he is next to God! The charisma, the personality and the aura the man holds has made Big B a name to reckon with.
With each passing year where actors start planning to hang there boots in, Amitabh Bachchan gets ready to charm his fans from one Friday to another. Is it a big wonder that his name is Amitabh then, which means 'The light that would never go off"? After all, he started off his career by being rejected by All India Radio for having a baritone voice that today sells thousands of products.
A star that started his career way back in 1969 has still an array of films yet to be released, like they say, this is the kind of stuff that legends are made off.

She is one of the few actors in Bollywood today, who can be accredited with the success of wiping out the misconception that 'Models can't act'. Her smile is something that has to its credit the launching of more than a million ships (read 'brands'). We are indeed talking about Mugdha Godse, the lady who entered Bollywood with a bang, courtesy her superlative performance in the smash hit Fashion and who will very soon be seen in Jail and All The Best.
After lending her name to many FMCG products, Mugdha has now been signed up as the Brand Ambassador of the very famous Mysore Sandal Soaps. When Bollywood Hungama spoke to the actress regarding the endorsement, she replied positively by saying, "Yes, I am endorsing Mysore Sandal Soaps".
Looks like Bollywood stars are truly making hay while the sun is shining! Way to go, Mugdha!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Oct 2009 | 6:51 am Irrfan Khan will be playing Nehru's role in Joe Wright's Indian Summer
Irrfan Khan had big plans to attend the premiere of his film Kosher Vegetarian in New York on October 16. He even had his clothes ready. But then, the unexpected happened.
The producers couldn't afford to have the entire cast and crew over.
Irrfan tries to explain the situation gently, "You've to understand my film Kosher Vegetarian was just one short-film in the whole series being released as one feature film New York I Love You. There're 11 short films and as many directors. And the cast includes 35-40 formidable star-actors. Getting them all to attend the premiere in New York was a costly affair. It also required huge amounts of planning and co-ordination. The producers were indecisive. I called it off."
What Irrfan is now looking forward to is the role of Jawaharlal Nehru in Joe Wright's Indian Summer. "It was Danny Boyle who after Slumdog Millionaire told me about the part. The British film industry is very small. Everyone knows about the films being made. Danny told me about Indian Summer. It came to me. Then nothing more was heard of it. I forgot all about it. Now I hear it's on again. I'm very excited. I'm a huge fan of director Joe Wright's work. But the offer hasn't come formally to me yet."
Irrfan is undeterred by the fact that he looks nothing like Jawaharlal Nehru. "I'll turn myself into the character through my attitude. When I was just out of the NSD, I had played Lenin at the age of 21. It made me realize my potential and direction as an actor. Since Lenin, I've played other biographical characters. I'm playing another real-life character Pan Singh Tomar. I'll be playing the Punjabi poet Pash in Anurag Kashyap's film. I can pull of Nehruji for sure."
Irrfan loved the way Roshan Seth played Nehru in Ben Kingsley's Gandhi, but has no intentions of using Seth's performance as a reference point. "There are many fine actors playing Gandhi. Whom would you call the finest? Roshan Seth is an actor I just love. Our industry is not equipped to handle his talent. But I'd never copy him. My reference point would be the script and the way I interpret the character. When I had just started acting, I used to draw a map for my character. I didn't have the skill to surpass that map. Today, I can afford to be unpredictable."
Today Irrfan is much in-demand for international projects. "All thanks to my film Warrior which Mira saw and decided to cast me in The Namesake. Not too many people have seen me in Warrior. One of my proudest moments recently was when Mr Bachchan praised me on his blog. I've repeated his dialogues in front of the mirror in my growing up years. It requires a large heart to acknowledge another actor. He's a genuine and generous soul."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Oct 2009 | 6:46 am E.T voted Greatest Alien Film EverSteven Spielberg's 1982 classic E.T has been voted the greatest alien film ever. Jha speaks about Acid Factory
By the time the befuddled chemically-zonked characters trapped in a padlocked factory realize who they are and what they are up to, we couldn't care less about the outcome of their violently vivacious life. Our disdainful indifference for the characters comes from the forced cool quotient. Everyone behaves as if they were born in a posh Tibetan retreat and spend the majority of their lives driving in swanky Porches. But the actors lack the charisma to carry off the posh postures with élan.
But these aren't the only reasons why we give up on these lost souls. Mainly, the game is up because film turns out to be an almost frame-by-frame copy of a Columbian film, Simon Brand's Unknown.
But shhh! That's a fact 'Unknown' to our audience. Like many of the films produced by Sanjay Gupta, Acid Factory seeks direct inspiration from a foreign source and adds sheen of extra-ruggedness to the original proceedings. After a point it doesn't matter what the original reference- point is. These are people who've lost their bearings. Providentially, the plot of this ode to muted mayhem doesn't follow that fate.
Director Suparn Verma remains pretty much in control, especially when the chase sequences take place. That's when the narrative really lets its hair down. The skidding wheels, exploding cars and crashing dreams of characters that are as amoral as they are adventurous, signifies the complete takeover of the film's universe by forces that rule the realm of video games.
Long before they became fashionable, Sanjay Gupta has been making video games on celluloid. The slickness never becomes a sickness. The background music by Amar Mohile totally supports the vibrant rugged and macho visuals.
Women are objects of classy but lustful adoration in Gupta's scheme of things. Dia Mirza makes her athletic entry mid-way through the film when the characters locked up in acid factory have just begun to figure out their raison d'etre. By then we've begun to lose our bearings vis-Ã -vis the askew plot.
To their credit, the actors seem to exude energy beyond the kind provided by the adrenaline-motivated visuals. Each character comes across as an individual. Manoj Bajpai is wacky, Aftab Shivdasani is restrained. Dino Morea is wry and Fardeen tries hard to come to terms with his amnesiac character. Danny Denzongpa and Irrfan Khan remain peripheral, never quite entering the domain of the damned, remaining above the pyrotechnics even while indulging in them.
Technical qualities in Acid Factory deserve a special mention. Sahil Kapoor's camera captures the bends of Cape Town as effectively as the curves that peep tantalizing in the well-choreographed item song. Curiously, Shabana Raza (Manoj Bajpai's wife ) makes a fleeting appearance in a flimsy nightie which captures her as the kind of wife Rita Hayworth played in the 1940s.
Her part is a slice of vanity in this film celebrating the violent vivacity of a lost generation.
Acid Factory is a stylish action film. Bunty Negi edits the matter without eating into the meat. But the meat of the matter is more about the heat than substance.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Oct 2009 | 4:07 am I'll do important roles till 80 like Ashok Kumar:Big BAmitabh Bachchan has never been busier.Source: Entertainment News | 10 Oct 2009 | 4:00 am Ajay Devgn's All The Best finds itself in a copyright controversy
Next week's big Diwali release, All The Best, finds itself in the middle of an uncalled for controversy. Apparently, producer Karan Ramsay (of Om Films Company) has filed a copyright infringement suit against actor and producer Ajay Devgn over the script of the film.-
Ramsay claims that the script of All The Best is almost the same as his under-production film called Uncle Samjha Karo. He has even gone on to mention that he had purchased the copyright of his film's script from writer Paritosh Painter in November 2006. Ramsay further adds that in 2007, Paritosh Painter had tried to get back the copyright of the script from him but in the arbitration process that followed, the IMPPA ruled the case in his favour thereby declaring Ramsay as the owner of the copyright.
Devgn films meanwhile claim that their film is based on the American play 'Right Bed Wrong Husband' and that they had in fact acquired the script from an American firm for $40000. Devgn is even livid at the fact that despite knowing all this long before, Ramsay files a petition only at the last minute close to his film's release.
When we tried to contact Devgn Films, their spokesperson said, "Right now we are in Delhi for the promotions of our film. The matter is currently in court and we would not like to comment on anything at this point of time. We should get a clearer picture by Monday."
One will have to wait and watch if the makers of All The Best are able to come out of this soup in a clean way.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Oct 2009 | 3:48 am Julia in Pataudi market was an affair to rememberNot many residents of this town could catch a glimpse of Julia Roberts while she stayed at Pataudi Palace for over three weeks.
