The prestigious 2009 South Asian Film Festival in New York, to be held between October 28 and November 3, will have a red carpet premier PNC'sFatso.
"Fatso is a fantastic film and it's a great pleasure for us to make it our Centrepiece Premiere at the Festival", says Galen Rosenthal, Director of the New York Film Festival.
Producer Pritish Nandy and Director Rajat Kapoor will attend the event in New York as special invitees of the Festival and will walk the red carpet
for Fatso. Joining them will be members of the film's ensemble cast - Ranvir Shorey, Gul Panag, Purab Kohli, Gunjan Bakshi and Neel Bhopalan.
Fatso will be releasing globally in January, says Rangita Pritish-Nandy, Creative Director of PNC and Producer of the film alongwith Pritish Nandy.
The South Asian International Film Festival is one of the most exciting events on New York's cultural calendar and filmmakers from all over the world, of South Asian origin, compete to be part of it. "It's a delight to be there", says Rajat Kapoor, "and it shows the growing reach and global acceptance of Indian feature films". Eesha Koppikhar who is hosting the wrestling reality show '100 % De Dhana Dhan' had a fun time shooting in South Africa. The black belt actress not only loved the country but also enjoyed the wild life in the jungles.
She says, "It was such fun doing '100% De Dhana Dhan' in South Africa. The warmth of the people can only be compared with that our people of India. I always wanted to visit South Africa also for its diverse wild life. Being an ardent animal lover, I was really looking forward to experience the wild life safari. So, at the first given opportunity, I just took off to visit the Lion's Park at Johannesburg."
She continues, "The experience was thrilling and endearing. Not only did I get a chance to see lions up close in person, but I also got a chance to play with the cubs. It was an amazing experience playing with cubs. They pulled, scratched, even tried to bite me. I guess neither the cubs nor I felt threatened in each other's company. Like human babies, all that they wanted was fun and pampering. I just loved the way the cubs were being treated at the Lions Park. Even though in a protected environment, they were yet so free."
The actress got the rare privilege to see the White Albino Lion. She adds, "I have visited several wildlife sanctuaries and seen Tigers at Jim Corbett National Park, Gir National Park, Ranthanbhore Tiger Reserve, Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary, Bandhavgarh National Park etc, but the South African safari was like watching King Lion and his family in his their palace.

The softspoken Jermaine - speaking at a low decibel runs in the family - doesn't mind being asked questions about his legendary brother.
In fact, Jermaine is happy to reveal that he's planning a very special homage to Michael "We'll do concerts in Michael's memory in various parts of the world, including Mumbai which is now one of my favourite cities," enthuses Jermaine who's just had taste of Mumbai and Bollywood and loved every bit of it.
Jermaine and Adnan Sami were supposed shoot a song on the streets of Mumbai on Tuesday. But the rain Gods had other plans. So the music video was postponed. But Jermaine didn't mind just hanging around, getting to know Mumbai with his dear friend Adnan Sami.
Jermaine, who is in Mumbai right now to record a tribute to the city, is surprisingly warm on questions on Michael. "Everywhere I go I see this overwhelming love for Michael. That's equally true of Mumbai," informs the gentle Jermaine as he jams with Adnan over the song that's begun to crystallize in the T-Series recording studio.
Says Jermaine, "We were supposed to record the song in LA. But on Adnan's suggestion we decided to relocate it to Mumbai and make it a tribute to Mumbai. I'm so glad we did that. Mumbai is such a vibrant city. I love the feel of the city. I love the food; I'm very fond of the entire Bollywood culture, the songs dances and colours."
Sounding ultra-excited, Jermaine admits it's been a trying time for the Jackson family after Michael's death. "Adnan has been a friend first then a musical partner. We've interacted for four years. And now I'm finally here in Mumbai. This is my first visit to Mumbai. And it feels wonderful. The song is shaping up well. And we're enjoying the process of doing it."

Looks like Mani Ratnam's Raavan is jinxed. Having such a big star-cast and having being made in two languages always gave some problem to the director. Currently, it is the bad weather at Malshej Ghats which is standing as an obstacle for the shoot.
A source from the unit reveals, "We have been going to shoot at the location every morning at 6 am. But we end up shooting not even a single scene. This is due to the bad weather and heavy rains which have disrupted our entire schedule. Abhi-Ash have been also traveling every morning to the location and end up sitting in their vanity van due to bad weather conditions."
The source continues, "Mani Ratnam is getting very stressed with the entire situation. The movie is way behind its schedule due to unwanted circumstances. Getting dates of the actor's also causes a lot of grief. Past few days have been off. Although the entire unit is going to the location for the shoot in all the muck, but no shoot is able to happen."

Mugdha plays the lead role in Jail opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh. She says, "I am happy that at such an early stage of my career I have got the opportunity to play two diametrically different roles. Madhur has given me the courage and confidence to experiment with different roles."
She recalls an incident, "On the first-day of shoot of Jail, I came for my shot with make-up on, and Madhur asked me to go wash my face and get the make-up off. He wanted a completely natural look. I finally ended up only with kajal and mascara."
Mugdha has been styled by her personal stylist Deepti Mhatre who styled her in Fashion as well. She adds, "I started off with her and she gave me all my outfits for Jail. They're plain, simple and yet elegant."
Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail is based on prison life. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays the main protagonist and Mugdha, his love interest. The recently released Wake Up Sid used an ample dose of vfx in the post-production stage, whether it be for background replacement or for making a cosy moment between Ranbir and Konkana seem more romantic. The post-production of the film was executed by Prime Focus over a period of 45 days and ran into 25 minutes (196 vfx shots). The vfx shots for the most part included techniques like digital matte painting, chroma compositing, CG rain, time lapse transitions, etc. The Prime Focus team was headed by vfx supervisor Reupal Rawal under the creative guidance of Merzin Tavaria, Creative Head, Prime Focus, and included compositors, matte painters, motion graphics artists and a small team of roto and cleanup artists. The film's director Ayan Mukherjee, who was completely new to vfx, said, "When I started off, I was unaware of the technical process and had limited knowledge on film post. From a post-production point of view, Wake Up Sid is a simple film. I think simple films are the hardest to work on. But courtesy Prime Focus, I totally enjoyed working with both the VFX and DI team and am definitely coming back to them for my next." Bollywood Hungama gives you an exclusive peek into a couple of vfx shots executed by Mumbai based post-production house Prime Focus. This chroma shot was shot in a studio and the background was later replaced to make it look like Ranbir's pad in the film. Separate layers for the background and rain were added to make the effect look real on the big screen. Says Merzin Tavaria, "Though the composite shots looked very simple, they were quite difficult as the fore ground chroma plates had details of green plants which had to be keyed out and blended in with the back ground and the CG rain." In the scene where Ranbir and Konkona are sitting at Marine Drive, the requirement was to generate buildings and enhance the lighting in the night. Prime Focus also added a moon and its reflection and shimmer in the water. The shots were treated and then composited with various elements to get the desired look. The moon, reflections and buildings were created using matte painting and compositing, to give the shot a realistic feel.

Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are back again with their next film Karthik Calling Karthik. The film is slated to release on 12th February 2010.
Karthik Calling Karthik is about a man who gets phone calls from himself, one never knows what to expect when the clock strikes five ... and the phone rings.
The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, under the banner of Excel Entertainment and co-produced by Amit Chandrra and Vijay Lalwani, under the banner of Magic Beans. The film is being directed and written by Vijay Lalwani. Karthik Calling Karthik stars Farhan Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Ram Kapoor and Shefali Shah.

Films have always been dominated by the mega production house Yash Raj Films over the past few decades. Now however, the small screen has emerged as a sure shot crowd puller with a multitude of soaps releasing.
YRF has now decided to enter into TV fictional and non-fictional content production with an agreement with Sony TV.
"Yash Raj Films is working on several TV show formats all of which are currently in various stages of production. We will be making a detailed announcement of the shows and related information at the appropriate time. Zapak Digital Entertainment in association with Jagex Games Studio has launched the free MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game RuneScape for which the former will be the exclusive marketing and distribution partner in India. The game was launched by Rob Smith, Chief Operating Officer Jagex Games Studio and Bollywood's top actor Aftab Shivdasani.
Zapak Runescape also announced their tie up with MTV Roadies 7 as an official game for the hugely popular reality show. The game play for Runescape for the first seven levels incorporates the seven sins of the MTV Roadies journey this year.
RuneScape, developed by Jagex Games Studio, is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). It is a graphical browser game, operated by Jagex Ltd., implemented on the Java application and incorporating 3D rendering. The game has approximately 104 million active accounts, and is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's most popular free MMORPG.
Zapak has launched both the standard and premium versions of the game in India; the standard version offers hundreds of hours of game play to enjoy and for more adventure the premium game offers exclusive member only quest, skills, houses and advances social interaction which are chargeable.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Rohit Sharma, COO, Zapak Digital Entertainment Limited. said, "Runescape is amongst the top online games in the world. With over 6 million users a month it is the worlds second largest MMOG (Massively Multiplayer online game). We are very excited to exclusively launch this game in India."

Rakhi Sawant is appalled and angry by the way her mother is being treated on Bigg Boss. She wants revenge.
"How dare the Channel use my mother as a pawn? Last year it was Rakhi Sawant. So this year it's her mother? I could take on the whole house. Let them send me into the house once. I'll show all these English-speaking snobs what a daughter can do when her mother is insulted. No one can fool around with me. But my mother is a simple housewife. That poor woman is being completely isolated by the other contestants."
And Rakhi, though not on talking terms with her mom, won't take any slight to her lying down. "How can they isolate her because she can't speak English? We come from the chawls. My grandfather never sent my mother to school. She is a poor uneducated housewife. I wonder how she put those two signatures on the Bigg Boss deal because she can barely sign her name."
Rakhi is especially upset with Tanaaz Currim. "Tenaaz is behaving extra-smart. When the housemates did the Mummy-Daddy act, Tanaaz completely ignored my mother. And do you know, when I meet Tanaaz's mother I'm very polite and respectful?"
Rakhi blames the channel for using her mother as bait. "They thought Rakhi is coming on Pati Patni Aur Woh, so let's put her mother on another show. I had no idea my mother was invited to Bigg Boss. Whatever our personal differences, I don't want my mother to be put in a compromising position," says Rakhi and accuses the other housemates for discriminating against her mother.
"There's definitely bhed-bhav against my mother. Nine contestants voted against her on the second day. I'm frantically calling up all my friends and fans to vote for my mother," says Rakhi who has just bought herself an office in Lokhandwala.
"It's in the Kamdhenu complex. I'm very proud of it. From there I'll start my production house. Whatever money I'll make on the reality shows, I'll use to produce my serial on the Bible. As it is, I've realized movies don't pay. I got only a token amount from Yash Raj Films for Dil Bole Hadippa. And on top of that, my role and my dances were cut drastically. Santoshi has put the expensive historical on the Partition, Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhia Woh Jamia Hi Nahin with Sanjay Dutt in the lead, on indefinite hold. Instead Santoshi is going right ahead with his film with Sunny Deol. Deol and Santoshi have been locked in earnest discussion over the past few weeks. They want to make sure the film will be the perfect comeback vehicle for the exiled star.
Says Santoshi, "I'd love to work with Sanjay Dutt. But the historical requires a whole lot more research and a huge budget which we can't afford at this time. I'm currently making a film with Sunny Deol written by me and Sridhar Raghavan to be produced by me. In fact, Sunny just left my office," Santoshi said on Tuesday afternoon.
The estranged hit jodi of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi is coming together again after 13 years. They last worked together in Ghatak.
Confirming this development at a time when Sunny's career has hit the lowest ebb, Santoshi says, "Yes, Sunny and I are working together after so many years. He still packs in the same punch."
Ask Santoshi about the rough patch that Sunny's career is going through, and the director jumps to his old favourite's defence. "It's unfortunate that some of Sunny's recent films haven't worked. That doesn't mean Sunny didn't work. He's still our best action hero. And we'll prove it. We gave a new definition to action cinema in Ghayal. Again we hope to do the kind of action that audiences haven't seen before. Sunny doesn't need to flash six packs to be an action hero.
