Boman Irani has played a variety of quirky characters in his illustrious career so far. Be it the eccentric motel owner in Darna Mana Hai, the stern Dr. Asthana in Munnabhai M.B.B.S, the mad Parsi Farukh Sethna in Being Cyrus or the roguish Sardar Lucky Singh in Lage Raho Munnabhai. Each of these characters portrayed by Boman Irani have managed to create a mark in the minds of the audience till date.
Now the talented actor is all set to display his versatility once again in the upcoming comedy Fruit And Nut. Boman would be playing the role of an ageing Maharaja of Mumbai. According the sources, the character is quite similar to that of Hugh Hefner (owner of Playboy Magazine). Just like Hugh Hefner, Boman's character in the film (which is called Harry Holkar) also jives with pretty young women and even owns his own dungeon where he celebrates life in style. What's more, he even claims authority over Mumbai as his princely state that his forefathers have ruled.
With such an interesting role to portray, Boman couldn't help but feel excited. Says the talented actor, "There are different shades to the character but it is among the funniest characters I have ever played. It's weirdly funny. We are aware that Mumbai never had a Maharaja yet there is a meaning to my character of Maharaja Harry Holkar."
While Boman's look certainly seems promising, one will have to wait and watch if this funny man is once again able to bring the house down with his on-screen histrionics as Maharaja Harry Holkar in Fruit And Nut.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Oct 2009 | 7:43 am Ashutosh didn't offer me his next: AshAishwarya Rai has refuted rumours that she was to play the female lead opposite her husband Abhishek Bachchan in Ashutosh Gowariker's next "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se".Source: Entertainment News | 7 Oct 2009 | 7:09 am Adlabs Films now re-named Reliance MediaWorksAdlabs Films, an integrated media and entertainment company in the Anil Ambani group, has changed its name to Reliance MediaWorks to reflect the expansion of its business portfolio from a purely film processing laboratory earlier.Source: Entertainment News | 7 Oct 2009 | 6:37 am Hilary Mantel wins Man Booker Prize! This year`s Man Booker prize has gone to British novelist Hilary Mantel`s `Wolf Hall`.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 7 Oct 2009 | 6:35 am "I never felt intimidated by either Ajay Devgn or Salman Khan" - Asin
Same time last year, Vipul Shah with his entire cast and crew was busy filming a song from his yet another ambitious film, London Dreams. Jimmy jibs operators, steadicam operator, the choreographer having a word with Vipul, Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan in their shady tents trying to escape the unusually surprising London heat on a busy Sunday London Bridge location. Then I spot her. She looked a loner. I dream about London and her. Me and her walking hand in hand besides the quiet waters of the river Thames. Here's the thing: She is clad in stretchy skin-tight black from neck to ankle, wearing shoes that blend the architectural with the glossy and ephemeral. Her legs are coyly folded underneath her body. Her long hair is tightly pulled back from her face, which is expertly made up to conquer tiredness and appear fresh. Her skin glows with success. There is no hint of any dubious celebrity tightening or enhancing around the eyes, nose, ears and mouth. Her figure implies that a certain amount of almost surreal attention has been paid to maintaining that body. She ain't the celebrity defined by cliched magazine covers, glamorous videos and spiteful internet gossip. She is as real as it gets after your wishful dream comes true. It's just that mine didn't. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel gets dreamy about Asin in London, and maybe that's the reason she got a comfortable seat all to herself. Then I hear someone say, "Excuse me dreamer". But here's a dream come true all the way from the receiver end of the telephone...Asin dreams about London, her filming days, her shopping spree, her food habits and hopes her second dream comes true - she hopes it's her second blockbuster hit after Ghajini. All the way from London, here's Asin, my dream girl!
Vipul Shah likes to play a lot with cultures, emotions, sentiments. Is London Dreams any different?
No. London Dreams isn't different from any other Vipul Shah film except that it's a musically inclined film. Yes, you're right. Vipul likes to play with emotions and I wanted myself to get into a project, a film, which is like that and kind of different from Ghajini. I wanted to do a commercial Bollywood film and London Dreams is much bigger in scale than my previous outing.
The first theatrical promo of London Dreams reminded a lot of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam where both Ajay and Salman acted together.
(laughs) There is a parallel there now. There is a lot of drama and emotions like the film you've just mentioned and the theatrical promo reveals that too. I don't think one will be thinking of a Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam when you see London Dreams, except for the fact that both Ajay and Salman are again together. People should take Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam out of their minds and go and watch our film.
Is London Dreams an out and out musical journey? Last year same time, Rock On created quite a stir in the industry too.
Even though the premise of the film is related to music, concerts and performances, I basically don't think it moves in the similar path as Rock On did. I want people to go and see London Dreams and figure out themselves whether they find any similarity between Rock On and London Dreams.
Second film and already worked with the three big and best actors of our industry - Aamir, Salman and Ajay. How mature and experienced have you got today?
I think I mature with every shot that I give and every film that I complete. Working with actors who've got so much experience behind them is a boon. You don't consciously think about it but in your subconsciousness, you do think about it. I really come with a clean mind and do not come with a certain image of every different people I'm going to be working with, whether be it media created or public perception. I'd like to get into a person from my own personal experience. I never felt intimidated with either Aamir, Ajay or Salman because when you're working with seniors like them, it is they who create a good atmosphere and they did just that. They never had starry ego problems or a star power syndrome.
I've never given a compliment like what I'm going to give to any actor. This one goes to you - You're the only actor I've seen on-screen who looks so damn beautiful when you cry.
Oh! (laughs). Wow! That is quite a compliment I must say. Thank you so much and let me grab this compliment before anyone else does (laughs). I am not a very conscious actor as in terms of look or probably as much as my contemporaries are. I am not the one who constantly gives a shot and checks the monitor. I let the director 'ok' my shot. It's nice to hear from your director when he says that you look good in the shot. But it's equally nice to hear that I look beautiful when I cry from critics like you.
What about your shopping spree and junk food experiences of London?
(laughs) Eating experience and that too junk food was not much because I had to keep an eye on whatever I was eating because I had to work towards the look of Priya, the character I'm playing in London Dreams. Not only me, but everybody on the sets were food conscious, Ajay and Salman included. Both had to look into their fitness regime quite a lot as they were working towards building their bodies. Ajay had to work out extra as he had to remove his shirt too. Everybody was into diet food. The only thing we consumed quite a lot was coffee as it was quite freezing while we were shooting. As far as shopping is concerned, it's a very put-together look for Priya. Me and Ashley Rebello, the stylist for our film went out shopping when we got free time from the sets. Forget the branded stores, we shopped from the streets too. I will not say that I did not shop from the branded ones. So here it is - Harrods, Topshop, Selfridges, etc. We did shopping not for me, but to create the look for Priya.
The name London is really lucky for Vipul. His last outing Namastey London was a huge success worldwide. The time has come to be second time lucky?
I hope so because and I pray because it's not just the second time for Vipul, it's my second film too. So we both hope our dreams to come true (laughs). The film has shaped up quite well and I completely trust Vipul when it comes to understanding the Indians in London and the whole scenario out there. He taps into a lot like the way people live in London, their relationships, their dreams, etc.

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 7 Oct 2009 | 5:53 am Book Review: Bollywood In Posters
'Wow, a full blown voluminous book about Bollywood posters' - That's how you immediately exclaim once it is brought to your notice that a book called 'Bollywood In
Posters', which claims to take it's readers through the nostalgic journey of evolution of posters from 30s till the current times, has hit the stands.
So what if around a year back, a book based on the similar concept - 'Bollywood Posters' [by Sheena Sippy and Jerry Pinto] - had already hit the stands! You still wish to
find what SMM Ausaja, a film enthusiast and historian, all of 40 years of age, has to present in this book which comes with the ever so memorable poster from Barsaat with Raj Kapoor holding Nargis. Now this was the beginning of it all and while relationships have moved on to being true platonic today (let's wake up to
Wake Up Sid!), the sheer intensity of Barsaat still works good enough to make you turn those 270 odd pages that follow.
First things first, 'Bollywood in Posters' is enticing enough to make you drop everything and go for the kill, mainly because of the brilliant packaging. The book is heavy,
voluminous, colourful, glossy and has quality dripping page after page, hence making you quite sure that the author as well as the publishing house left no stones unturned
to make the book at least 'look' excellent even by international standards. The design is done quite well too with each of the 250 odd posters finding good prominence. In fact
most of the known movies enjoy a full page spread for them.
Ausaja doesn't just leave the posters for readers to gaze at. He also provides details (other than basic cast and crew) like the film's genre, famous songs, synopsis/trivia and
also some prominent awards that it may have earned. Due to these reasons, on the face value at least, 'Bollywood in Posters' sounds like a good experience in the waiting.
However, the book doesn't quite turn out to be excellent, must read or belonging to 'can't put it down' kind of variety. There are two major reasons for that:
a) There isn't any 'surprise element' in those hundreds of posters that you get to explore in the book. Sholay, Dil Chahta Hai, Mother India, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,
Mughal-E-Azam or Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge - Now these are the kind of posters that you would anyways expect in a book belonging to this subject. Nothing
wrong with that but then when one pays a huge sum of money to get hold of a book like this, one expects something that belongs to 'never seen before' variety. For
example, in Sheena-Jerry created 'Bollywood Posters', there were posters of films like Rocket Tarzan, Sindbad Alibaba Aladin, Kaala Jadoo or Bollywood's own
Zorro that had resulted in an immediate reaction of 'Now what's that!'. There aren't any such reactions when you turn pages of Ausaja's 'Bollywood In Posters'.
b) The written material about each of the films in posters doesn't quite make you jump with excitement. The trivia mostly belongs to the kind that a core Bollywood buff would
have anyways known. Moreover, the list of Filmfare awards for most of the films just seems like a quick way out of getting some basic text in place. First and foremost, it is
easy information to lay your hands on and secondly, it only becomes monotonous after a point in time. To think about it, when you are going through a book about posters,
would you really be interested in knowing that in which year did Amitabh Bachchan actually go on to win his first Filmfare award?
These are the reasons due to which the book doesn't enter the league of very good or excellent read. Also, one wishes though that Ausaja as well as the publishing house
were a little more careful around the correctness of the trivia.
Picture this: Alongside the poster of Aakhree Rasta [1986], it is written that in this film featured Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi together for the first time. Wrong
information, because way back in 1984, they had also come together in Inquilab. Also, for the write up of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...., there is a mention of
casting coup that involved actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Kajol coming together. While Rani Mukherjee (who just had a special
appearance in the film) too finds a mention in this 'elite' list of actors, surprisingly Kareena Kapoor is nowhere mentioned!
However, leaving aside such minor aberrations, the text is consistent on every page. 'Bollywood in Posters' is a good buy for those who haven't owned a book on Bollywood
history before and would possibly be spending good money for the first time on a book revolving around posters. Also, if you belong to the kind of film enthusiasts who wish
to have a book like this neatly stacked in your book shelf or placed in a living room; it won't quite harm your reputation of being a true blue Bollywood buff.

Very recently, Rahul Bose was honored as a youth icon in 'Videocon India Youth Icon Awards (VIYIA)'. He got the award in the category of Social Justice and Welfare as the founder of his NGO - The Foundation. While over the years, Rahul has been recognized for his social work in various fields, this award holds a special place in his heart since it reaffirms his belief that he is going in the right direction.
"See, I am not the only person in the country who is doing socially relevant work. There are quite a few out there who are doing their bit and I am glad about that. It's just that when you pick up an initiative, people should know that this is for the keeps. That one is serious about the assignment. This is when such an award comes in handy because it is not frivolous and has a quotient of being genuine to it. Now all I want is people to believe that my efforts are genuine", says Rahul.
He believes that it's a huge responsibility when an initiative carries his name. "'The Foundation' is taken seriously because there is a certain credibility attached to my name. People out there know that I bring in a certain value. Initiatives taken by my foundation could be big or small but they should be genuine. I guess the time of talking is over while walking is the 'in' thing. Ultimately, the Indian public is not fool. They can spot the difference between what is said for effect and what is done in reality. Whether it is politicians or actors or social activists, they know for sure whom to trust or not", he describes.
Others attached to the world of films who received the award in various categories of India Youth Icon awards were Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. In addition, Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah, Barkha Dutt and Chetan Bhagat were also honoured.
"This is a brand new award with jury and online voting carrying 50% weightage each", informs Rahul, "The jury comprised of people like Shabana Azmi, Kiran Bedi, Shyam Benegal and Leander Paes who come from different walks of life. They themselves have a great track record of excellence and human value system. The entire voting process was handled by the organization 'Ernst and Young' that further adds credibility."
With the award in hands, Rahul Bose feels that his work in the tinsel world too has contributed to him being conferred with the award.
"Yes, to a large extent it's the kind of cinema that I do which went in my favor", reflects Rahul, "I have done a film like Mr. and Mrs. Iyer which spoke about Hindu and Muslim secularism. Then in Chameli, the theme revolved around the uplifting of the downtrodden. Shaurya again had a patriotic flavour to it. These themes have played a major part in creating a belief around me that this guy has at least the right system in place. I just hope and pray to build on from here."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Oct 2009 | 5:08 am Grigoryan Brothers: Strumming classical notes in age of funk rockAustralia's leading classical guitarists, the Grigoryan Brothers, swear by classical music in an age when the guitar is either associated with contemporary western sounds or earthy folk from the colourful mosaic of ethnic musical genres across the globe.Source: Entertainment News | 7 Oct 2009 | 5:02 am Shemaroo's animation film Bal Ganesh 2 slated for Oct 23 release

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 7 Oct 2009 | 4:47 am Ranbir's unrequited love again in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani!
Do we see a psychological pattern here? What's it with Ranbir Kapoor playing the spurned lover over and over again?
He started his career with Saawariya where he worshipped the ground that Sonam Kapoor walked on, but she had eyes only for Salman.
Then in Bachna Ae Haseeno, Deepika Padukone said a flat 'no' to Ranbir's proposal.
And now, in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Ranbir again tries to woo the girl with his one-sided attention by almost playing Katrina Kaif's faithful poodle, hanging around her unconditionally.
Raj Kumar Santoshi who returns to comedy after 15 years says he wanted Ranbir to play the unrequited lover-boy with a difference. "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a film about an unrequited love. I didn't want Ranbir to play the loser in love like a tragic hero. Chaplin and Ranbir's grandfather Raj Kapoor excelled in playing tragic losers in love. I don't think the youngsters identify with it."
Hasn't Ranbir already done the role of an unrequited lover in Saawariya? Santoshi agrees, "Yes, but not in this zany and upbeat way. Though Ranbir's character loses out in love, he doesn't lose heart for even a second. He remains blindly devoted and besotted right till the end while Katrina just keeps taking him for granted."

Things are looking up for Urvashi Sharma. After Naqaab [2007] where she had an author backed role and more recently Baabarr [2009] where she managed to make an impression in spite of limited screen time, the young woman is getting aggressive about her film career. While she is picking and choosing her Bollywood films quite carefully, she has gone ahead and signed a British film titled The Bounty Hunter.
"Yes, I can now confirm that I have signed the film. We were in talks earlier and hence I wasn't at liberty to talk. However, now since everything is packed and sealed, I can happily announce my involvement with the project", says Urvashi, who is now out of the 8 film contract with a leading music company and is free to choose films at her own will.
The film would be directed by Sunandan Walia who has earlier directed a documentary film titled Days and Nights in an Indian Jail [2003]. The same production company (Endboard Productions), which had produced this documentary, would be making The Bounty Hunter.
The Bounty Hunter comprises of British and British Asian cast including Kulvinder Ghir from Bend It Like Beckham. On the strength of its acclaimed script, The Bounty Hunter would be funded by U.K. Film council.
Meanwhile Urvashi is happy to see momentum gathering w.r.t her film career. "I am looking for good work but it has to come with good money as well", she laughs, "I am not willing to compromise on either of the two. Of course I am not just sitting and waiting for things to happen to me. I have approached filmmakers myself."
"Unfortunately, the ones on my wish list are either on the post production of one of their films or have already signed someone else. I am happy with their responses though since they seem positive and promising. I am sure they would have me in mind for their next projects", she says hopefully.
When it comes to her being in the wish list of the filmmakers who want to work with her, she is taking her steps quite carefully.
"Yes, there have been offers but let me talk about them once there is something concrete on paper", she says in a guarded tone, " Meanwhile, I am looking at wrapping up work on Aditya Datt's Chai Garam [Govinda, Celina Jaitly] and Mukti [Sanjay Dutt, Shabana Azmi, Vinod Khanna, Suneil Shetty]."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Oct 2009 | 4:49 am "Jermaine Jackson and I are doing two songs together" - Adnan Sami

On Friday afternoon when the deceased legend Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine arrived to collaborate with Adnan Sami, there was a sense of disbelief in the city. Jermaine arrived with his wife Halima. They both checked into the Taj but spent the entire evening at Adnan's place discussing music, food, social concerns and Michael Jackson (MJ).
"It's been an exhausting but amazing time since Jermaine arrived," chuckles Adnan after an exhilarating session with Jermaine at the newly-revamped T-Series recording studio. "That's why I didn't make any announcements about Jermaine's arrival. I didn't want to sound premature in my excitement since Jermaine had visa issues and his arrival in Mumbai was uncertain till the last minute."
Adnan and Jermaine have got together to record a tribute to Mumbai City. "It will be part of an album we've been working on for two years long before Michael Jackson's sudden death. Jermaine loves India and Mumbai. I could've easily joined him in Los Angeles to record the song. But Jermaine insisted on coming down."
Adnan intends to make the third of the Jackson siblings familiar with the sights and sounds of Mumbai and India. "After the recording is over, we're going to Chowpatty and all the other hot spots of Mumbai. Jermaine loves Indian food. But he doesn't want to have the 5-star stuff. He wants to taste the pao-bhaji, paani-puri, bhelpuri, batata-vada and all the street-slurps."
A visit to the Taj Mahal is also on the anvil. "We'll visit the Taj and Fatehpur Sikri where as you know, Tansen once sang. I'd have loved him to stay in my house. But I thought a hotel would be more comfortable for Jermaine and Halima. I'm bowled over by his humility and his hunger to learn and know about Indian culture. His down-to-earth nature reminds me of Mr. Bachchan."
Adnan plans a very exclusive sit-in dinner party in Jermaine's honour at his home on October 7.
Jermaine also heard Azaan's music and loved it. The Jermaine-Adnan album will be marketed in India by T-Series and internationally on Jermaine's label. "T-Series re-revamped their entire studio and equipment for Jermaine's recording," says Adnan. "We're doing two songs together, one of them a tribute to Mumbai and its unstoppable energy"Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Oct 2009 | 4:26 am
