Come December and it would be one of the unlikeliest of clashes that Bollywood has experienced in recent times. On the weekend of 4th December, Himesh Reshammiya starrer Radio, for which the promotion began a month back, would be coming face to face with Paa which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan. Even though promotion of this Balki (Cheeni Kum) directed film is yet to begin, the movie has aroused immense curiosity ever since some pictures clicked on the shoot location were leaked.
Himesh is unperturbed though his film would be facing challenge from Paa at the box office. On the contrary he is happy as he believes that it would be twin delight for the audiences.
"It's my honour and day of pride to come opposite such a big legend's film. I am taking this positively and am looking forward to Mr. Bachchan's blessings. Actually we would be coming up with the worldwide release a day earlier, i.e. Thursday, 3rd December, due to astrological reasons", says Himesh for whom this would be his third film as a leading hero.
Due to Paa arriving on 4th December, isn't he contemplating shifting the release date of Radio?
"I don't have a choice really to do since there are numerous back to back releases of other films too in the same duration. 3rd December has been a closely thought out decision", says Himesh who is also looking forward to inviting Amitabh Bachchan for a mega party that he is planning to throw soon.
"I am definitely inviting him. It would be my privilege if he comes. After all, I consider Bachchan sahab as my idol and inspiration", says Himesh, "For this party, I would love to invite everyone who has been responsible for my successful journey in the film industry so far."
One of the major agendas of this mega event is to celebrate a milestone that Himesh has managed to reach very recently. 'Mann Ka Radio', a song which is rising up the popularity charts, has incidentally turned out to be the 500th song composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Meanwhile, even as the festivities and celebrations continue, work isn't stopping for the actor/composer/singer. He would soon be coming out with an unplugged version of 'vMann Ka Radio'.
Ever since Himesh turned composer with 'Odh Li Chunariya' [Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya - 1998], Himesh has composed music for close to 100 films. Most of his work has been with T-Series due to which Himesh would also be felicitating Bhushan Kumar.
"Yes, putting together 500 songs is special for me and I plan to felicitate especially my dad by throwing this party", he adds, "He has been the backbone of my success."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Oct 2009 | 7:31 am Jermaine’s tribute to MumbaiMichael Jackson’s elder brother, Jermaine Jackson, landed in Mumbai on Friday afternoon accompanied by his wife, Halima Rashid.Source: | 3 Oct 2009 | 7:02 am Bollywood’s ballot powerIt’s not just ordinary citizens who have been gripped by the election fever in poll-bound Maharashtra. A first for Bollywood is about to happen at the posh Warner Brothers Studios in Los Angeles. Internationally-renowned cinematographer Amir Mokri (who's shot Hollywood blockbusters like Vantage Point, Bad Boys 2 and Fast & Furious) will be watching our own desi action flick Blue on October 3.
Joining Mokri will be Mitchell Amundsen, the American cinematographer who recently shot Mission Impossible 3.
Blue director Anthony D'Souza, who worked in LA when he directed the television series Ripley's Believe It Or Not, has been close friends with Mokri and Amundsen for years and a big fan of director Michael Bay who is also likely to join the two cinematographers to watch the special screening of Blue in LA.
A print of Blue is being flown to LA for maverick Hollywood director Michael Bay's viewing pleasure. Anthony has been a fan of the director of the blockbuster Bad Boys and Transformers series and has seen these films repeatedly. In fact Blue is totally inspired by the cinema of Michael Bay. Bay will in all likelihood also watch Blue while the mixing of Blue will take place at the prestigious Warner Brothers studios.
Blue becomes the first Indian film to be mixed at the Warner Brothers studio.
Says Anthony, "I've been a Michael Bay fan right from the time he made the Aaron Burr commercial. He's definitely my favourite director. Blue bears Bay's stamp. I had decided I'd show it to him when it was ready. Amir Mokri and Mitchell Amundsen are confirmed for October 3. Wake up, Bollywood. Here comes the warmest most credible captivating and kaleidoscopic coming-of-age film since Dil Chahta Hai.
Wake Up, Sid has no overt dramatic highs and lows. It has an inherent charm and candor in its storytelling that take the narrative a very, very long way, right to the heartwarming lovers' union ending on the seaside where the only splashy thing is the sea and where Sid embraces love with all its glorious shortcomings.
At the end of Sid's saga of spiritual awakening one is a little flummoxed by what quality in debutant Ayan Mukherjee's film makes this film so endearing. Could it be the disarming lack of artifice and affectations in the way Ayan portrays Sid's journey from slothful affluence to working-class agility?
Or could it be just the fact that Ayan uses tender supple moments in the narrative as though they were punctuation marks in a long and deeply disarming discourse on 'How To Find Yourself & Your True Vocation In The Melee Of Bombay....sorry, Mumbai.'
Wake Up, Sid is a triumph on many levels. It takes the protagonist's predictable but yet kinetic voyage into self-realization to a level where the languorous plot exudes a beam of light that cuts right across the radiant narrative. The colours are bright but never glaring. The film is shot in a warm and sunny speckled ambience filled with fleeting glimpses into hearts that are forever on a run. The moments to retrospect are snatched from the bustle of metropolitan life.
The most obtainable component of young Ayan Mukherjee's artless narrative is the remarkable rhythms of the ordinary and the unostentatious in the narrative. All the relationships in the plot are potentially predictable and cliched. Ayan takes the age-old dramatic conflicts of our commercial cinema into quiet supremely understated corridors.
Wake Up, Sid gives us many moments to carry home. Whether it is Ranbir Kapoor with his screen-father (Anupam Kher) or his mother (Supriya Pathak, endearing n her simplicity), or his bummy-chummy camaraderie with his friends (Shikha Talsania and Namit Das are credible all the way as Laxmi and Rishi) the motivations behind the characters' words bubble to the surface without external props to hammer in the emotions.
The background score and cinematography (Anil Mehta) are done in practical and unassuming shades. Mumbai never looked less romanticized. The relationship between Ranbir and Konkona develops as they move around her cramped apartment. Miraculously their hearts never bump into the furniture. The narrative dodges the clamor of daily life with a determined fluency.
Konkona Sen-Sharma as the Kolkata girl trying to find her bearings in the cool largely heartless city of Mumbai conveys so much of her character's unstated emotions that we wonder if she's even aware of the camera's presence. And she isn't alone in her pursuit of a non-cinematic performance in a film that salutes and dodges predictable drama. Anupam Kher as Sid's father effectively uses his limited space to create a tycoon who wants his laadla to stand on his own sneakered feet.
It's the little-little things that the characters do when the camera isn't looking that nourishes the narrative.
Would this wonderfully -uncrowded film have worked without Ranbir Kapoor? Ranbir's Sid is a near-perfect portrait of the aimless young man searching for a direction in life. Ranbir handles the character's inner life with the effortlessness of a Sitar maestro twiddling with his instrument's strings to create a music that takes the audience to a world where the sounds suggest a harmony between art and life.
In Wake Up, Sid Ranbir proves once and for all that he's the future of Hindi cinema.
As for Ayan Mukherjee, the debutant director gives us insight into maturity of hearts even when they are stubbornly immature in their outward conduct.
Don't miss this wake-up call from a director-actor duo that have created a world of heartbreaking transparency.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Oct 2009 | 2:28 am What's Your Raashee? - Outlook

Going by the buzz and the hype that was created over the last few weeks around the film Wake Up Sid, its quite obvious, that its makers left no stone unturned, when it came to the film's promotions. But the makers of the film surely must've not expected the film create controversy on day one itself.
Today, MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) party activists disrupted the screening of the Ranbir-Konkona starrer in some cinema halls in Mumbai and Pune. The reason? Well, they were objecting use of word 'Bombay' instead of 'Mumbai' in the film. Latest reports have it that the film's producer Karan Johar had gone to meet MNS chief Raj Thackeray to sort out the matter and has also apologized for referring 'Mumbai' city as 'Bombay' in the film. He further said that a disclaimer will now be carried in the beginning of the film.

There is a general saying that 'He came, he saw, he conquered'. Well, when it comes to the master filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, the same saying rechristens itself as 'He came, he made and he made others see'! For starters, Ashutosh is the same very man, whose 'Pehla Nasha' is to make movies which not only wins every 'Baazi', but also touches every heart and soul. Testimonials to this stand in the form 'Lagaan' and 'Jodhaa Akbar', that not only won hearts in 'Swades' but internationally too!
The good news is that Ashutosh Gowariker, who is back with yet another cracker of a film What's Your Raashee? was on Bollywood Hungama's Celebrity Chat, wherein he chatted with his fans from all over the globe. For those who missed the bus, here are the excerpts of Ashutosh's chat:
Niraj: -Ashutosh saab, What's Your Raashee is good but not as beautiful as Jodhaa Akbar or Lagaan. According to me, Jodhaa Akbar is the most beautiful film made by you. Please make a film as beautiful as Jodhaa Akbar once again.
Ashutosh Gowariker: Niraj, Thanks for your observation. Someday, I will make another film like Jodhaa Akbar. But that day is very far. In the meantime, I will want to try diff kinds of cinema, and I hope that u will come to see it each time.
Niraj: what are the responses that you got up till now for your movie?
Ashutosh Gowariker: Niraj, one common response is that it's very good, but a little long. But, I think that if u view the film as my attempt at a romantic comedy after making period films and historical, u might enjoy it.
Niraj: Ashutosh saab, how did the idea of Jodhaa-Akbar came? Although I don't disagree that Akbar-The Great was a secular ruler but Jodhaa says not to force her to change her religion but Jodhaa was renamed Mariam-Ul-Zamani as per historical records. Also how Akbar nama commissioned by Akbar didn't have mention of the name 'Jodhaa' Is there any historical reference to this scene you shot. Also is the Akbar asking Jodhaa to go back Amer after conspiracy based on historical facts?
Ashutosh Gowariker: Niraj, Marium-uz-Zamani was a title conferred on Jodhaa the day she gave birth to Salim aka Jahangir. Till then, she was referred to as the princess of Amer or Jodhaa. It was not a regular norm for the court writers to mention the women from the harem in the books, especially Akbarnama and hence the exclusions. The fact that Akbar allowed Jodhaa to keep her religion and built a temple for her, later abolished the Pilgrim Tax, and introduced so many Hindu customs in court, also included a lot of Hindu courtiers in court and finally, wanted to start his own religion in the belief that he can unify everyone under his philosophy of 'Sul-e-Kul' are reasons enough to believe that he was secular.
Dkhan: Hi...right now you are working on which script?
Ashutosh Gowariker: Dkhan, my next is a thriller, based on the Chittagong Uprising of 1930 called 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se'. This one will only be 2 hours long!!!
Aniket: Do u believe in bound script or r u open to changes on the set? Which one u think is better?
Ashutosh Gowariker: I like to have a combination of both a bound script as well as improvisations on set. I also believe that all my direction happens 80 percent on paper.
Sachin: sir. I want to work with you...how that's possible?
Ashutosh Gowariker: Hi Sachin... you can surely contact my office and leave your pictures. I have a system by which, when I am casting for a new movie, I look at each and every picture and make my selections. So, let's see if our raashees match... :-)
Akshay: The song 'Manunga Manunga' is damn funny and you have really sung well in that song.
Ashutosh Gowariker: Thanks Akshay... I'm just a bathroom singer who got the opportunity to sing the simplest song in the film, of course after the permissions from Sohail Sen the composer and Sunita, the producer... and I'm serious! :-)

Abbas Tyrewala is back from London after a long 40-day schedule of 1-800 Love. But the cast and crew will once again be going back to the Queen's Land to shoot the songs with Hollywood director Michael Gracey.
Abbas is currently shooting some portions of the film in Mumbai. He says, "After a hectic schedule in London, we started shooting in Mumbai, with a two day break in between. The shoot in Mumbai will go on till mid -October. We will then probably go back as soon as I get the dates in place. The entire movie is based in London city and we have shot one song and two are still remaining."
He continues, "The song was choreographed by Hollywood director Michael Gracey. He is superb with his work and always wanted to do a Bollywood film. He has done an amazing job with the songs and I am looking forward to shoot the other remaining songs with him."
Speaking about a song, he adds, "It will have the lead pair of John and Pakhi, along with the ensemble cast which makes it 8 of them. It has a different get up in connection to the character. Everyone wants to see John as a hunk, but in this song he will be in a different avatar with relation to his character."
Abbas Tyrewala has also penned the lyrics for his movie, having music of Oscar winner music director A R Rahman. The director has also done the lyrics for the upcoming film Blue.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Oct 2009 | 4:40 am "I want to present Salman differently for London Dreams" - Vipul Shah
Vipul Shah's London Dreams is surely turning out to be one of his most challenging films for him. First there is the Salman spree of 3 back-to-back releases to be dealt with. Now, Vipul Shah has another biggie dropping into the same space on Friday as his London Dreams.
As of now Vipul has stopped all Salman-centric publicity for London Dreams.
The Salman season has begun full-swing. After the whopping Wanted, it is Salman's home production Main Aurr Mrs Khanna on October 16, followed by Vipul Shah's London Dreams on October 30.
Is this a case of Salman overkill? Vipul doesn't think so. But he has put a halt to all publicity involving Salman for London Dreams until Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is released on October 16.
"There's no point in a publicity overlap. I don't want audiences to be confused or annoyed by repeated and overlapping images of Salman's films. Fortunately for me, both Wanted and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna are very different from my film, and from one another. However, it's finally the same Salman. So, I'd rather not waste his publicity dates or my efforts to get the film noticed."
All publicity involving Salman in London Dreams has come to a halt. And Vipul is looking at a new strategy to promote his film. "I'm waiting and observing the way Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is being promoted. My challenge is to now present Salman differently from the way he was presented for Wanted and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna."
One of the ideas is to host a round of rock concerts in selected cities featuring Salman, Ajay Devgn and Asin since the film is about a music band.
But at the moment Vipul is tightlipped on this. "It's never wise to reveal your strategy. You never know who might decide to use it before you do."
Another problem has crept up on London Dreams from the back. Sujoy Ghosh's fantasy Aladin has been pre-poned from 13 November to 30 October.
"I had gone ahead and planned an October 30 release with the producers' guild's assurance that there would be no other release. But now suddenly Aladin has been pre-poned to the same Friday as London Dreams.
