Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 24 Sep 2009 | 7:57 am "Ajay Devgn is a complete prankster and Sanjay sir is very down to earth" - Mugdha Godse
After her critical acclaim in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, Mugdha Godse was sitting idle for six months. Critics and cinema professionals were left discussing, 'She ain't getting any business now'. Now, with a clutch of powerful roles under her belt, Godse is back in business. I remember my first and the last meeting with the beautiful lady at the JW Marriott in Mumbai. 'Then' and 'Now' is how she can be defined today. When she enters the room, she owns it. It crackles with her arrival. She is alone, no entourage, no assistant and no publicist. Walking confident she sinks into the velvet beside me. Her hair not too long, but lustrous. Her eyes, big but glittering. She has a presence now, but it's not necessarily the one you'd expect, not haughty or demanding. Just two films old and third yet to release, her screen persona seems indestructible now. There's toughness, strength, a determination, and then there's me. Me, who took her first ever interview for All The Best and the same me meeting a different her after a year. She looks right at you as she talks and she's not afraid to be looked right at, herself. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel meets the perfect body, the long delicate limbs, the luscious lips and flawless skin. By the way, she doesn't need 'All The Best' now. She knows she'll crack it. Only for you - the confident and the magnificent Mugdha.
This is your second film and we don't want to wish you 'All The Best'.
Why?
Because we know you and your film are going to do wellâ¦
(Laughs) So sweet. I like that confidence.
And how confident is Mugdha Godse today?
I am as confident as I was in Fashion because that's what gets me good results. All I have is my confidence and I'm sure people will love the film because I have a good and a positive feeling about it.
Your first film etched out your character pretty well. Does All The Best give you the depth like Fashion did?
All The Best is a full on comedy. This film is all about timing and making people laugh. There are no emotions and strong characterisation like Fashion had. But yes, my character is etched out in terms of what she does. She is into Vedic science and believes a lot in lucky stones. I have tried to do something different. I wanted to make people laugh and that's what defines your success in a comedy film. I have done my bit and now it's all up to the audience. I'd like to wish my audience All The Best.
You very jokeeee?
(Laughs) When I bought a solitaire for myself, a lot of good things started happening. I am wearing a yellow sapphire since six years too and it's been progressive. But diamonds are a girl's best friend, right? So I'm sure people will be giving me more of diamonds thinking that it's my lucky stone (laughs). It's a hint, to tell people what gift they can gift me.
I'm sure it's a hint for the man who will be proposing you with a diamond.
(Laughs) Yea! Yea! I will definitely take the diamond from my man and tell him 'tata bye bye'.
This is the first time you're working with Bollywood heroes. How was it to interact with the male personalities?
They came across as quite cool. Cooler I should say. I thought they would have a lot of ego and starry attitude, but no. They are so chilled out. Ajay Devgn is a complete prankster but luckily, I was not one of his 'bakra'. Sanjay sir is very down to earth. I hope all my male co-stars in the future too come across as sweet, cool, mad and confident.
Your first promo of Jail is being showcased at the theatres. You're going fast girl. From a serious role to a comedy and back to a serious one.
I'm loving this commercial madness and comedy but at the same time, I think Fashion and Jail are roles which are very performance oriented. All The Best is one too. But there is a different kind of acting required when you do a comic film. Everyone thinks that comedy is easy. It isn't. It was difficult for me to do All The Best as compared too Fashion and Jail. Madhur's films set you up as an actor and a performer. Rohit's films give you all the freedom to express your madness and talent.
What did you learn from your bong co-star Bipasha Basu?
Oh My God! There were so many similarities. We both have worked with Madhur Bhandarkar. Her last co-star was Neil Nitin Mukesh in Aa Dekhen Zara and my next co-star too is Neil, in Jail. She is so sincere and knows how to look her best all the time. That's what I have learnt from her. We did interact a lot about Jail and Madhur sir.

Balki has just left to shoot the last bits of Paa in Lucknow.
The director's eagerly-awaited project Paa has been postponed by a month. However, the imminent clash with the other Bachchan starrer Teen Patti has been averted, thanks to the actor's timely intervention.
Apparently, Mr. Bachchan personally requested the producers of Teen Patti to avoid any clash with Paa.
So it's Paa going solo on December 4. Says Paa director Balki, "As far as I'm concerned it is only Paa releasing on December 4. We were supposed to release on November 13. But that would have been two weeks after another Amitabh Bachchan starrer Aladin. And we couldn't ask Aladin to shift. They've gone through too many delays already," rationalized Balki before leaving for patchwork shooting in Lucknow on Tuesday.
"Though Paa is set in Lucknow, this is the first time that I'm visiting the city in my entire life," said Balki.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Sep 2009 | 5:11 am Mickey Rourke to play real-life hitman

By now its common knowledge that Priyanka Chopra plays 12 roles in Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Raashee, and that each one has been styled differently.
But the attention that Ashutosh Gowariker has paid to the hair styling for each of the 12 Priyankas takes our breath away.
Explains the diligent director, "You can tell a girl's personality not only by her clothes and hair but also by the way the hair bounces."
A different bounce had to be created by hair stylist Asha Hariharan for every Priyanka.
Priyanka has assumed a different skin tone, complexion and playback voices, each suited to the individual character in terms of personality and body/spoken language.
Confirming this, Ashutosh Gowariker says, "I knew Priyanka could pull off all 12 parts. I've seen how nuanced her performances are right from the time she made her debut in The Hero. When we decided to have the same actress playing all 12 parts, we decided to give every character a totally different personally in terms of dress, skin tone and even hair style."
Hair stylist Asha Hariharan was brought in to do Priyanka Chopra's hair for the 12 characters. Explains Ashutosh, "While Neeta Lulla has done all of Priyanka's clothes for the 12 characters, Asha Hariharan was brought in because I didn't only want only a different hair cut or style for all the 12 Priyankas. I also wanted a different fall and bounce for every girl's hair. For that, I needed an expert beyond the expertise offered by the Bollywood names."
Rajesh Patil was roped in to do Priyanka's 12 skin tones. "They're very subtle differences. But nonetheless the skin shades determine a major part of every girl's personality."
Priyanka being dusky in complexion had a particularly tough time playing the more gora avtars.
As for her voices, Ashutosh sifted through innumerable voices with composer Sohail Sen before selecting the 11 voices (the 12th girl doesn't sing). "It wasn't like an audition. But yes, my music director Sohail Sen and I went through the voices to select the ones that suited Priyanka's every avatar."
Adds Ashutosh, "If I made the film 20 years ago, Lataji would sung for all the 12 Priyankas and she would've made sure each avatar had a distinct personality."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Sep 2009 | 4:44 am 'I never lost confidence in Harman'

If one goes down the memory lane, one can comfortably say that with What's Your Raashee?, Priyanka Chopra may well be boasting of the biggest ever film written for a woman protagonist in the history of Indian cinema. After all, 80 years after legendary British actor Lupino Lane created a (yet unbroken) record for a male actor playing 24 roles in one single film, Only Me (1929), Priyanka Chopra is all set to emulate a similar feat when it comes to female actors. In What's Your Raashee (2009), she plays 12 different roles and the film has already been referred to Guinness Book of World Records for further consideration.
While there have been quite a few double role performances by leading ladies in the past, there aren't many movies where a Bollywood actress has played even a triple role, let aside coming close to enacting a dozen odd characters in a single outing. Even as the film is just a few hours away from release, Joginder Tuteja catches up with the Priyanka and gets conversing around the ego boost that she must have got once Ashutosh Gowariker approached her for the role. She also chats about the complexities involved in bringing the 12 characters alive on screen, her friendship with Harman Baweja as well as the contribution that he has made in her rise as a top Bollywood actor.
With so many complexities involved, did you just leave yourself in the able hands of Ashutosh Gowariker and follow his instructions?
See, when a director gives a script to an actor, lot of work is already etched on paper. Still, if you are an actor who wishes to contribute to the written material as well, you have to bring in a lot of your own self too. It is an amalgamation of vision of both the director and an actor. Just like a director cannot make a good film just on the basis of a script, similarly an actor too just can't rise above the script and rock the show on his/her own. Clichéd as it may sound but the fact remains that it is all a team work.
Ashutosh says that it is a 'smile through' film. How would you like to call it as? Candy floss?
Really, I don't understand the definition of candy floss! What I know for sure is that this film is entertaining, intelligent, funny, real, light hearted and quite humorous. And no, it doesn't turn slapstick at all. It is a film that you can go for with your family.
Coming to your co-star Harman, since you have already done around 30 odd films while he has been seen in only two (which were unfortunately unsuccessful at the box office), did you play a mentor of sorts on the sets? Was it the case of you being a little protective about your co-star and hence came up with a shielding act?
Who am I to do that? No, I don't think I would have even thought of being responsible for his act in front of the camera. He is himself quite talented and on the contrary I have learnt a lot from Harman.

On September 18, when Dilip Mehta's Cooking With Stella had its public screening at the Toronto Film Festival, the show was on the spur of the moment, dedicated to Lisa Ray who plays one of the central characters.
Says the film's director, "We decided to dedicate that particular screening to the strength and fortitude of Lisa Ray. The response was terrific."
This is the first time in the history of film festivals that a show has been dedicated to one of the living actors whose part of a film. Says Dilip, "The second public screening of CWS took place and once again the theatre was brimming. It had sold out a week ago."
There's no denying the fact that Lisa's presence in the film has created an added interest in it. Says Dilip, "The movie was thoroughly enjoyed and laughter permeated the entire film. It seems everyone got the premise of the film. We were mobbed by film-goers after the screening."
From Toronto, Dilip flew down to Sudbury where Cooking With Stella opens the film festival. Says Dilip, "Seema Biswas and I flew to Sudbury where our film was opening the 'Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival.' The unusual feature for the Gala opening was that the film was shown simultaneously in four theatres and each theatre was packed. Seema and I were thrilled with the response Cooking With Stella received. At a reception following the screening, Seema was mobbed by the invitees who remembered her from her strong performance in Deepa's Water. We returned to Toronto on Sunday and Seema continued on to London and then to Mumbai"
The Atlantic Halifax festival had also opened on 19 September. Informs Dilip happily, "Cooking With Stella once again opened the festival. Our producer David Hamilton represented the film and did the honours. And according to him, the response in Halifax was the same .The audience loved the film, performances, humour, and biting satire. On the 25th of September we go to Edmonton where Cooking With Stella is once again opening the International Film Festival."
Reliving the exhilarating experience of attending the prestigious Gala section of the Toronto Film Festival with his cast, Dilip says, "The gala screening went off tremendously. We had decided to arrive at the red carpet function in Indian cycle rickshaws - Seema Biswas and Shriya Saran, Lisa and her co-star Don McKellar, and David and myself. We had opted to not arrive in limousines but in vehicles of visual interest. The media interest at the red carpet was enthusiastic. So much so that the screening was delayed by several minutes. The huge Roy Thomson Hall was packed. The film was introduced by Piers Handling (CEO of the festival) and the Minister of Culture and Tourism followed by David Hamilton who introduced me to the audience, and I in turn brought in the cast. The movie was thoroughly enjoyed and laughter permeated the entire film. It seems everyone got the premise of the film. We were mobbed by film-goers after the screening but managed to extricate ourselves to go to the special invitees' only party for the film thrown by Hussain the CEO of Mongrel Media (The distributors). And what a party! I don't even think the stars got an opportunity to eat or drink."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Sep 2009 | 9:40 am Spectacular end but few buyers - Hindustan Times

Wanted is a huge success already and made people stand up and acknowledge Salman Khan's superstardom all over again. One of the rare action films in recent times to enjoy huge critical as well as commercial acclaim, Wanted has now completed a trilogy of sorts for 'masala' films. After Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om and Aamir Khan's Ghajini, now Salman Khan has scored in a big way with Wanted which has got raw action-n-drama back in vogue.
So is Salman Khan back after a rather poor run with Yuvvraaj and God Tussi Great Ho? Industry doesn't quite believe so. Don't be shocked because as per practically each and every film personality that this writer reached out to, the verdict is common - 'Salman Khan was never gone in the first place. He was, is and always would be a superstar.'
[All listed in alphabetical order]
Abbas (of Abbas Mustan fame)- "He has always been a superstar. Also he can sense a good product from quite some distance. He had faith in Wanted and you have to see the way he went all out during last 45 days. He made sure that his fans and followers know what Wanted was all about and he is going to give them the kind of entertainment they were looking for. I am really happy for him."
Abhishek Kapoor - "Where did he go anyway? Salman is Salman, nothing like him!"
Arbaaz Khan - "Back from where? He didn't go anywhere!"
Celina Jaitly - "Salman has always been WANTED. He is the only actor who is the most beloved no matter what. And that's what you call true stardom!"
David Dhawan - "On Monday, you should have tried passing through the road where Salman lives. Taking your car down the road was a challenge in itself, courtesy thousands of people who had assembled near his house to wish him Eid and congratulate him for the success of Wanted. Need I say more?"
Eesha Koppikhar - "You are talking about Salman? Did he go anywhere? He is the quintessential superstar. Wanted is just yet another feather in his cap. Wishing him an 'eid mubarak' and congratulations. Looking forward to his next movie."
Himesh Reshammiya - "Salman Khan was a superstar, is a superstar and will always remain a superstar."
Imtiaz Ali - "Salman never went away. He was always there, and will be. For a long, long time. People will always love him."
Jackie Shroff - "Where did he ever go?"
Jacqueline Fernandes - "Salman never left. He's always been Wanted!"
Ken Ghosh - "Salman had never gone anywhere to be back! He has always had a loyal fan base!"
Madhavan - "Where did Salman go in the first place to be back? He has just climbed much higher."
Milan Luthria - "The charisma of the three Khans - Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir - has been such over last two decades that you can never ever under-estimate them. It shows with Wanted where Salman Khan announced loud and clear that this was a film audiences had to watch."
Minissha Lamba - "Salman was never gone. Wanted only proves that if there is a film that requires a raw action hero, it's only Salman who can make it work."
Neha Dhupia - "I have not seen the film but he looks very very promising in all the three films (Wanted, Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna, London Dreams). I have become a fan once again!"
Neil Nitin Mukesh - "A person needs to go to be back! He has just become even bigger, better and stronger!"
Pritam - "When did he go out to be back? He was, is and will be in mind and heart of everybody!"
Ramesh Taurani - "To use the word 'back' for Salman is totally wrong. In spite of hits and flops, Salman was, is and will always be a huge star. I am really happy for him that Wanted is a huge success. Wishing him many more super hits in the future!"
Riteish Deshmukh - "Salman is a huge star. He is beyond hits and flops."
Sajid Khan - "Back?? Where did he go? He was always here!"
Sanjay Gadhvi - "Where had he gone that he is considered to be back? Salman is the original 'RockStar'. With Wanted, he's just reaffirmed his status as a star who is one of the most popular with the masses."
Sanjay Gupta - "Where did he go? He was always rocking; if not the big screen then he rocked the small screen and continued to rule hearts. And in any case, Salman is the kind of star who's beyond hits and flops."
Sanjay Kapoor - "After Partner, he didn't work in too many films. One can sense when he is excited about a project. He had faith in Wanted and that showed in the way he went all out in promoting the film. Weekend collections as well as Monday have been huge. I am quite confident that Wanted would be the biggest success of Salman's career in recent times and would even cross Partner."
Sonu Sood - "I feel he was always there. May be right films didn't happen. With Wanted he has proved that he is loved by the masses. I am sure he will always rock!"
Suparn Verma - "Where did the superstar go in the first place? The last ten years plus we have had the three Khan superstars rocking our world. Salman was, is and always will be a superstar!"
Tusshar Kapoor - "He had never really gone really!"
Vashu Bhagnani - "As soon as I saw the film, I immediately called up Salman and told him that he had just beaten the competition around him. His lion like walk towards the film's pre-climax still gives me goose bumps. He has shown the world through some extensive marketing and promotion that how he can give a huge charge if he is really-really interested in a film of his."
Vikram Bhatt - "Salman Khan went nowhere!"
Vipul Shah - "The Top-5 actors that we have in the industry today - Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman, Akshay and Hrithik - are a force. They may get an occasional flop or two but if their upcoming film shows promise, audiences are bound to throng theaters in dozens. It doesn't matter for them if their much moved star has a flop behind him because curiosity of them seeing him in a good film supersedes everything else."
Vivek Agnihotri - "Back? From where? USA ? UK? Did he go anywhere? Is media immigration officer? I think he was always here and shall be there. Rocking. He is the true rockstar."
Zoya Akhtar - "I haven't seen Wanted so can't comment on the film. But as far as I am concerned, he never went anywhere to come back. He is a super star despite his films not because of them!"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 Sep 2009 | 7:57 am Karisma mum on pregnancy rumoursActress Karisma Kapur says she may make a comeback with a David Dhawan film but stayed tight-lipped on rumours about her pregnancy.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 23 Sep 2009 | 7:33 am Anifest '09: Behind the scenes of India's Vfx studios
VFX, or visual effects, has become the latest buzzword in the post-production industry with studios, big and small, vying for lucrative jobs in Bollywood and Hollywood. In an industry that's almost a decade old, it is a lesser known fact that a significant chunk of the visual effects for recent international films like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I Am Legend and Surf's Up had been executed by Indian studios.
This and more was discussed at the recently held Anifest India, India's largest animation festival. Addressing an eager audience of animation and vfx professionals, Krishnakant Mishra, Creative Director, Sony Imageworks India, shared the latest technical know how, including a state-of-the-art 2D to 3D stereoscopy converter and the technology used to imitate live-action into animation, real time.
Mishra's studio has worked on, among others, on the animation film Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and the 3D stereoscopic G-Force. Explaining the process of converting a 2D live action film into a 3D stereoscopic, Mishra said, "In case of G-Force, we shot the whole film with one camera and the stereoscopy was digitally created. What we do is we shoot the left eye image and then create the right eye with an offset of 2.5mm, which is the distance between the human eyes. By doing so, we not only make the movie a very interesting watch but also save on money."
Talking about Rotomation, which enables a 3D model to be animated exactly the way the actor moves, Mishra said, "We used this technology extensively in I Am Legend, for making the animated zombies seem like real humans." He also shared Imageworks' propriety 3D solutions like Imagemotion and Katana.
Concluding his technical presentation, Mishra opined, "The major challenge for the vfx industry today is dealing with the ever-growing complexity (of filmmaking)."

The search of a viable business model is one of Indian animation industry's biggest conundrums. A select few studios, both big and small, have got it right. But professionals and entrepreneurs who have just started out in the industry are starved for some insightful advice that will help crack content deals in a market which has been hit by recession since early last year. The recently concluded Anifest India 2009 proved to be just the right platform for industry rookies and veterans to come together and share their doubts and insights.
Recounting his decade long experience in the animation industry, Ashish Kulkarni, CEO of BIG Animation, and the creator of 3D animation TV series Little Krishna said, "Animation is a process of self teaching. In the last 12 years of my career, recession has hit us every three years. I want you - the first generation animation professionals - to be prepared for that. It's only because of the passion of few individuals that the industry has survived."
Besides Little Krishna, Kulkarni's Pune based studio also has a 2D Flash based film Hey Krishna and another 3D property Mr. D in the pipeline.
Kulkarni further addressed another of Indian animation's never ending debates, that of two dimensional v/s three dimensional animation. "We are in the business of storytelling and filmmaking, where the key ingredient is creativity. Whether the medium is 2D or 3D doesn't matter. We are entertainers and have to learn it on the by, set up self-sustaining units and then scale it up from there."
In a final word of advice for budding animation professionals, Kulkarni opined, "Animation is one medium where you can re-edit, reconsider and redraw your concept at the storyboard and animatics stage. If you have the patience to see the project through the production cycle of two to three years, you are definitely creating something that will last a lifetime and have an impact." Sounds like good news for animation in India!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Sep 2009 | 6:47 am Bollywood should come to Brazil, says directorBollywood movies should come to Brazil "in a big way", says veteran Brazilian filmmaker Suzana Amaral, describing herself as a fan of Hindi movies from the 1970s.Source: Entertainment News | 23 Sep 2009 | 6:45 am Akshay-Twinkle feature on cover of L'Officiel this month

After pixelating Neil Nitin Mukesh's nude scene in Jail, Madhur Bhandarkar has now deleted the masturbation scene that was part of the film before. The director does not want to take any risk with the censor board and end up getting an A or U/A certificate for his movie.
A source from the unit reveals, "Madhur, known as a director of realistic cinema tends to reveal every aspect related to the subject he is working on. With Jail, the director has shot and exposed the insides of a prisoner's life behind the bars. As per the script, the main protagonist, Neil, was required to do some bold scenes."
The source continues, "Madhur made Neil shoot for the scene but has now decided to delete the same while sitting on the edit table.
