Welcome to the 'Akshay Kumar Fan Club'. Care to join? Film credits like Khiladi, Ajnabee, Khakee, Kambakkht Ishq, many more, including the latest deep sea adventure, Blue, which has already brought in thousands of members worldwide. Don't worry about membership requirements, it's simple. You just need to see any of his action flicks to fall in love with the six feet tall treasure seeker. Kumar has managed a balance of box office hit films and dramatic roles to cement his leap to leading man status. He has risen above the Gods, you may say, but it's time he dives deep down the ocean to meet the sharks. After all, they are God send. Get ready for the ultimate chapter of the adrenaline-fuelled, high-octane action thriller Blue. Chances are, you might just land up in a big fat hungry mouth of the sharks or land up joining his fan club. The choice is yours but there are no options. Akshay Kumar gets ready to tear some flesh with many journalists who were lined up to question him about his on-set dancing to the title track of Blue, his stuntman quality, why directors are not ready to embark on an all out adventure caper and the most common question Indian cinema lovers are asking today - Why did Shah Rukh Khan visit Akshay Kumar on the sets of Blue? The fan club's getting popular every second, ain't it?
Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of Blue. Why?
I thought this whole media briefing was about my film Blue and not me and Shah Rukh Khan. Why do you guys blow everything out of proportion? We visit each other every time. It's not the first time he is meeting me. It's the first time media is seeing both of us meet after a long time but we do meet often.
Very rarely we've seen an adventure genre come out of Bollywood. Do you think it is very difficult for directors to take a risk so big or do you think they need an Akshay Kumar to be a part of such a film?
I have no idea about that. Yes. Blue isn't just a film for me, it's an adventure, fun and a frolic ride. I've done so many films that I have forgotten the memorable shots I've shot for those films. Blue is the only film where I can count my shots. Just imagine, wearing your fins, cylinder, your boxing gloves in the ring and then jumping inside the deep sea, knowing that there are thirty-forty sharks ready to greet you, not eat you, there. There were times when my director would say to remove my cylinder and diving glasses only to get myself prepared for a fight shot doing martial arts. I hope people understand the thrill of risking your life a little bit while you're on the edge.
You've got a tattoo on your hand which reads 'Blue'. Is it permanent?
How can it be permanent? I mean, I don't keep on putting tattoos of all the films I do. I've got this done because it's got a lot of significance to the film I'm doing.
We've seen you exercise behind the scenes to prepare for your roles. Swimming is an exercise in itself. Did you also do different types of training on the sets?
Yes. My producer had sent me to Kosamui to be a certified diver. I had to undergo fifteen days of rigorous training. I had to learn it because I was filming with a Hollywood professional Pete, who is a cameraman for films like Pirates of the Caribbean. Such professionals demand actors to push their boundaries and be swimmers we should be for such films.

Naseeruddin Shah ostensibly played a terror mastermind in Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday. But finally it turned out to be the role of messiah on a mission to 'cleanse the society'. Now, Naseer's arch-rival Om Puri has taken on the role of an unapologetic hardcore terrorist in Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan.
Bollywood characters derived from headlines specially ones that are taken from extremist news reports, are now being seen as tricky territory.
In Rensil D'Silva's hushed and much talked-about Kurbaan, Om Puri plays a hardcore terrorist who masterminds a massive terror attack in the US. Surely a politically-incorrect role for an actor, if ever there was one! In fact, Irrfan Khan had said no to play a global terrorist in Kurbaan.
Playing a terrorist automatically puts the actor in the suspicious list on the international airports. And so what if it's just a part?
But Om is fearless. "I'm aware of the repercussions. I'm also aware others actors turn down parts of terrorists. But I've no such reservations. A role is a role. We cannot be moral and judgmental about the characters we play. In Kurbaan I play the terror mastermind, a fully committed jehaadi who is ready to sacrifice everything including his wife (Kirron Kher) for the cause."
It's a role with deep reverberations. But Om is prepared for the backlash. "I played a radical mullah mouthing rabid dialogues in Jagmohan Mundhra's Shoot On Sight. It was just a role. I think our audiences are mature enough to understand this."
However the audiences' level of maturity seems to have gone for a toss. Om has apparently started receiving warnings from fundamentalist organizations about playing an extremist.
Om says he won't be deterred. "I played a Pakistani in Charlie Wilson's War and East Is East. And now, in October, I go into the sequel West Is West with the same cast. This time, Vijay Raaz and Ila Arun have been added. Is it dangerous to experiment with morality in your actors? Let it be. In my new release Baabarr, I played a corrupt colourful cop who doesn't think tweaking the law is a big deal. It's good to enter the hearts and minds of people who live by their own weird morality."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 19 Sep 2009 | 4:23 am Mika set to do Michael Jackson's moonwalk?London (ANI): Beirut-born singer Mika is set to fill Michael Jackson's shoes, for he has inherited the late King of Pop's designer shoes, including the ones the late superstar was to moonwalk in onstage at London's O2 Arena. The ''Thriller'' hit-maker hadSource: Oneindia.in - Entertainment | 19 Sep 2009 | 3:43 am Winehouse's surprise gig at a charity fund raiserLondon (ANI): Amy Winehouse recently did a surprise gig at a charity fund raiser for terminally ill children. Somewhere down the line in this mish-mash of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Chak De India and what-have-'youth' Shahid Kapoor, looking as intense as a man who has just discovered he has acute molar ache scowls at Rani and says, "You should be an actress in films."
Actress she is. And a highly competent one. Rani has worked really hard on getting the Sardarji's act together. At times she's quite funny and poignant. But her attempts go to waste in a film that seems to move in a rudderless stupor.
Rani Mukherjee is sorely let down in her made-to-order vehicle by a script that's as phony and pasted-on as the moustache she pastes on to infiltrate the all-boy's cricket team helmed by a Britain-returned dude from a broken family. Shahid's Dad Anupam Kher lives in Amritsar, his mom Poonam Dhillon lives in London, and Shahid lives somewhere where Shah Rukh Khan lived in Chak De. Passports are not required.
Backgrounds are not very high in the list of this messy and annoying mishmash about cross-dressing and the sporting spirit. While Shahid's character we know is from a broken home, only God and the scriptwriter know where Rani's Veera/Veer comes from. Is she the illegitimate child of a cricketer who passed through Amritsar? Is she the distant desperate cousin of Hillary Swank in Boys Don't Cry?
While Hillary as a girl dressed as a guy got the Oscar, Rani misses her award-winning turn by a wide margin, thanks to a script that meanders like a bumbling bumblebee which doesn't know whom to sting.
The story of the spirited girl's sprint into a men's game and into the coach's heart lacks bite and humour. The dialogues are ultra-pedestrian, some of the exchanges between the rustic Rani and the posh Shahid shamelessly cadged from Jab We Met.
What were the makers of this film thinking? Not much, we can easily see in the slithering progression of the material a dismaying lack of direction and motivation. After interval the wobbly narration just collapses in a tired heap, with scenes in a nautanki featuring Rakhi Sawant (utterly wa(i)sted) plunging to the bottom-most rung of mediocrity.
The climactic cricket match between India and Pakistan (Veer-Zara strikes again) is as exciting as watching Kaminey with the soundtrack turned off. In Dil Bole Hadippa, the soundtrack is so loud it drowns any finer point that the narration may possess.
Don't waste your time looking for silver linings in this dreadful cricket film. Someone once said cricket is a game played by 12 fools and watched by 12,000 fools.
Now we know what he meant.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 19 Sep 2009 | 2:54 am Paris Hilton's dog to date Cheryl Cole's poochLondon (ANI): Socialite Paris Hilton is trying to set up a date for her beloved dog Tinkerbell with singer Cheryl Cole’s pooch.
