It's an anomaly in the world of awards. An award for the animators and by the animators, at the TASI Viewer's Choice Awards (TVCA) the audience will vote and reward the best of animation from India and abroad. The awards are one of the main attractions of India's largest animation festival, Anifest India 2009, scheduled for 18-20 September '09 in Mumbai.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Ranjit Singh, Honorary Secretary of The Animation Society of India, the organizers, said, "The awards were initiated with a two fold objective: to ensure that the collected audience at the festival get to see the best animation work from across the globe and to choose the winners through a popular vote given by the audience, thereby staying true to the philosophy of the festival - 'For the animators, By the animators'."
"It's definitely a bigger high to be recognized and felicitated by your peers. The awards are now in their third year and the audience can look forward to some really interesting work from all over the world."
TASI has received 360+ entries for the awards, including those from Singapore and the US, which will be adjudged in separate student, independent professional, commissioned and teacher's film categories.
Talking about the X-factor of the awards, Vaibhav Kumaresh, Honorary Jt. Secretary asserted, "In most of the animation festivals, we see the film makers walk up and down the stage with awards. However we rarely get to see their films! TASI Viewers Choice Awards is a unique platform, where the audience gets to see not just the nominated films, but the entire cream of the past one year's animation films across all categories. And there are film screenings on each day of the festival giving a refreshing break from the masterclasses."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Sep 2009 | 7:42 am Heidi Klum's pregnancy fears

The maverick filmmaker N Chandra is a lonely man today. He has recently completed a script on an intense passionate romantic story between a boy from a broken home and a girl from a well-to-do family.
He has named the film Fire & Ice and would like to cast Shahid Kapoor opposite his old friend Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam in it.
Alas! The doors to the gen-next stars are closed to N Chandra.
"I thought the doors would re-open for me after Yeh Mera India. But sadly, not too many people saw it. It was a film that I did in a completely contemporary language. There is a belief that I haven't kept up with the times, that I'm a spent force. I may have made Ankush, Pratighaat and Tezaab in the past. But that was then. I don't follow contemporary cinema's language. I made Yeh Mera India in a very contemporary European style. The cameraman was an American."
Now, in Fire & Ice, Chandra claims to use a form of narration never used before. "It's non-linear and in a way never seen before. It's contemporary. I need a particular kind of personality for the two main parts."
Getting Sonam should be less difficult for Chandra than getting Shahid. After all Sonam's father, Anil Kapoor, teamed up for one of his best films Tezaab with Chandra.
"But that was in the past. Things have changed. This is a new generation, a new era in filmmaking. Everyone has their own favourites," says Chandra, hastily adding. "Anil and I are still very close friends.'Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Sep 2009 | 7:11 am Pandora's Box tops most fashionably influential movie listPandora's Box, which featured Louise Brooks as an amoral charmer, has topped the list of most sartorially influential movies of all time prepared by Turner Classic Movies.Source: Hindustan Times News Feeds 'Cinema' | 10 Sep 2009 | 7:07 am Bollywood prays for Lisa's recovery

Michael Adams, who is one of the editors of Empire, said to be the largest selling film magazines of America, has singled out a Bollywood film for the first time. Writing on the Blue trailer in his column called Schlock & Awe, Adams says, "It's Bollywood. It's Fast & Furious, It's Deep Blue Sea, It's Chicago. It's explode-y, bite-y, and dance-y and rather brilliant..."
Director Anthony D'Souza, who will head to Hollywood's Warner Brothers Studios later this month for the mixing of Blue, is over the moon. "Michael Adams is like the last word on Hollywood opinion. Blue is the first Bollywood film to be mentioned in his column."
And now the one-stop showbiz media mecca Empire has invited Blue to be featured in their magazine.
"Yes, Empire magazine will be featuring Blue. It's a singular honour. And I'm thrilled," says Anthony.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Sep 2009 | 4:12 am Pyramid Saimira sends legal notice to Kamal - Oneindia

Chitrangda Singh was the original choice of director Arsala Qureishi and Sabrina Louis, of The Unforgettable. The directors did try to reach out to her, but Chitrangda who had withdrawn into matrimony and parenthood wasn't keen on cinema at that point in time.
Say debutant directors Arsala and Sabrina, "Chitrangda Singh was our original choice. But she was not keen on doing movies at that point of time. Dejected by this, we moved to foreign shores and opted for the stunning Sofia Hayat. Sofia, who just had her autobiography released by Amazon, was more than happy to slide into the role."
As things turned out, Arsala had to make some changes to suit Sofia's persona and also make the script sexually explicit to lend strength to the character. It was but obvious that, had she cast Chitrangda, Arsala's script would have had to do without the hot scenes, which are now realised to be integral to the storyline.
The Unforgettable is all set to release in India on the 11th of September 2009. It is an unusual passionate love story that depicts the stark contrasts in individual beliefs, interwoven in a web of romance, mystery, travesty and triumph. The thought provoking concept and aesthetically executed cinematography by W.B. After being hailed as a 'Serial Kisser' till a couple of years back (before Awarapan brought a complete turnaround in the perception of him as an actor and also as a person), no one would have ever imagined that Emraan Hashmi could one fine day romance a girl in the meadows, roam around the lakes and dance in the middle of the trees. That naughty streak never seemed to leave him while that mischievous smile coupled with that look in his eyes meant that he had his own loyal following.
Meanwhile Emraan continued to evolve and experiment over a period of time. One of the prime transformations that he made was getting a different look and getup for each of his outings. And the result is a 'chocolate' boy look that he is happy to flaunt in his upcoming release Tum Mile. Since in the recent times, actors like Aamir Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and even Saif Ali Khan have found a loyal set of followers for themselves, courtesy their 'chocolate' looks, Emraan Hashmi going through this makeover doesn't quite come as a surprise.
"When Kunal (Deshmukh), director of Tum Mile, told me that in this movie he wants me to carry minimal stubble, be close to clean shaven and also wear bright colors like pinks and purples - I thought this would be a great challenge to take up", says Emraan who has paired up with Soha Ali Khan in this romantic entertainer with ample thrills in it, "In one part of the film I am would be seen in trendy T-shirts and denims. On the other hand, there is another part where I am in office formals and spectacles. It was a nice contrast for me actually."
Going through a look makeover isn't something new to Emraan. In Gangster, he was a bespectacled and unassuming undercover agent. Kalyug featured him as a dyed-hair rogue. Awarapan had Emraan in the most powerful role of his career as he boasted of a 'gang lord' appearance. He did come close to chocolate boy in Jannat where he played a boy next door in the initial reels of the film. However, he got an altogether different persona for himself when he sported a goatee and spiked hair in horror thriller Raaz -The Mystery Continues.
Says Emraan about his various get-ups so far, "I have always tried to do justice to the characters that I have played without trying to look conventionally good. In Gangster, I had to be unassuming and look totally harmless, and that's where spectacles came in. In Raaz - The Mystery Continues, I had to look like a maverick painter who had some deep secrets within. Spiked hair, goatee and the jackets helped a lot. I experimented similarly in Kalyug and Awaarapan too."
Doesn't he feel that by trying out 'chocolate' boy looks in Tum Mile, he is perhaps going a little too far? Won't it be better to be in his comfort zone?
"But what really is a comfort zone today?" Emraan shoots back, "On one hand we say that we should look at change and give audience something new every time. On the other hand, we try to slot actors in a fixed image. Yes, I know that people might say this is not my zone. But then it's a matter of being comfortable with what you are trying to achieve. Once you have done that, your inner confidence will reflect in your personality."
With the release of the first song from Tum Mile, he is happy with the feedback that he has received so far. "Yes, so far the reactions have been quite encouraging. All of us associated with the film were confident that this new look will do complete justice to my character", says Emraan, "I have been lucky my risks have paid off. I don't think any other lead actor in recent times would have risked to experiment with the looks like I did and still find continuous acceptance by the audiences. I am blessed!"
In Tum Mile, Emraan plays an artist. While his role is that of a university student in one part of the film, during the other, he gets into the garb of a corporate professional. A love story, Tum Mile is set in the backdrop of 26th July'05 deluge. The film is also special for the Bhatts since it sees Vishesh Films, Sony Music and Emraan Hashmi coming together again after the first hit of the year Raaz -The Mystery Continues.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 9 Sep 2009 | 9:29 am Kamal Haasan gets court notice from Pyramid SaimiraProduction house Pyramid Saimira today slapped a lawsuit on Tamil thespian Kamal Haasan for taking his fees but not completing the film "Marmayogi".Source: Entertainment News | 9 Sep 2009 | 9:15 am Salman's 'Wanted' gets Supreme Court reprieveThe Salman Khan-starrer 'Wanted' will be released Sep 18 after the Supreme Court granted reprieve to Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor in a monetary dispute.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 9 Sep 2009 | 9:01 am Irrfan Khan not 'serious' about work anymore!Irrfan Khan, who played an inspector in Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire and an FBI agent in New York, says he has always been making a conscious effort to break away from his serious image.Source: Hindustan Times News Feeds 'Cinema' | 9 Sep 2009 | 8:51 am I'm a pathetic dancer: Rajeev KhandelwalHe is a good actor and a good TV host, but Rajeev Khandelwal calls himself a "pathetic dancer". Indiagames has announced the launch of three games based on the recently released films - Kaminey, Quick Gun Murugun and Aagey Se Right - for the mobile. These games can be downloaded from the content portals of all major telecom providers in India.
Inspired by the latest blockbuster Kaminey, a UTV Motion Pictures production, Indiagames has launched an action packed mobile game aptly suiting the thrills offered by the movie. The game replicates the role donned by Charlie, the protagonist of the movie, packed with absorbing game-play and thrilling levels.
The 'Quick Gun Murugun' game is based on the film Quick Gun Murugun, who is the central character of the game. The whacky game-play of Quick Gun Murugan tests the player's shooting speed and reaction time. The player, who is a cowboy, has to swiftly shoot the enemies appearing in the area using a desert eagle pistol, before they try to shoot him.
The game 'Aagey Se Right' is an action-packed nonstop bike racing/pursuit game based on UTV Motion Pictures' comedy film Aagey Se Right. The game-play tests the player's driving skills, speed and reaction time while he rides his bike through the chaotic streets of Mumbai city. In the game, the player who dons the role of the cop Dinkar Waghmare, has to chase his trusted Bajarangbali stickered gun on the run. While chasing it, his fate and destiny make him an unlikely hero against the underworld goons and terrorists.
Announcing the launch of these games, Samir Bangara, COO, Indiagames said, "Movies in India have a huge fan following and we are pleased to offer these exciting games to the rapidly growing base of mobile gamers. It gives us an excellent opportunity to extend the experience of these films to the user's mobile screen, giving the fans and core gamers, alike, an opportunity to relive these films, on the move."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Sep 2009 | 7:05 am Rahman and Shekhar Kapur join hands for Kapur's first ever short film Passage
After working together in Elizabeth- The Golden Age, music maestro A.R.Rahman and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur have once again joined hands for Kapur's first ever short film Passage.
A special screening of the film Passage was held over the weekend on the island of La Giudecca. The charming I Granai della Republica was transformed into a magical space that played host to a soiree of glamorous stars. Shekhar Kapur, A.R. Rahman, Haley Bennett and Nadja Swarovski were among the celebrities enjoying
Venetian cocktails and canapés. The guests immerged into the world of Passage after the private screening of the short film and were even enthralled by a live orchestral performance by India's Kavita Baliga who sang music from the film scored by Academy Award Winner A.R.Rahman.
Passage, directed by Kapur and produced by Curious Pictures Production and Swarovski Entertainment, stars Julia Stiles (Cry Of The Owl, The Bourne Ultimatum), Lily Cole and Haley Benett (Marley and Me, Music and Lyrics). The film invites audiences to dive into magical moments of transformation in the lives of three young women. Together with A.R. Rahman's score Kapur's graceful images merge into a highly emotional and enigmatic passage through despair and loss to reconciliation. The camera itself acts as a kaleidoscope exploring a non-linear time-frame leaving it ultimately for the viewer to individually interpret the meaning of the enchanting and dream-like film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Sep 2009 | 7:04 am Ashutosh Gowariker changes 'novel' ending of What's Your Raashee
For those who think they know which of the 12 Priyanka Chopras Harman Baweja marries at the end of What's Your Raashee, here's a shocker.
Ashutosh has completely changed the bride-selection finale. Harman's character walks away with a completely different girl from the one that the hero selects in the novel.
It took a while to convince the novelist Madhu Rye. But Ashutosh finally made sense in convincing the litterateur that an identical ending in the film will work as a total spoiler for those who had read the book.
Rye had also never imagined that all the 12 candidates for bride-hood would have the same face.
But Ashutosh had made up his mind. "If I had 12 different actresses playing the 12 brides-in-waiting, a star-hierarchy would've been created in the audiences' mind. And the one Harman would've married would've been considered 'The Star' of the show. I wanted all the 12 girls to be looked on with equal
curiosity and interest by the audience. And for that I need to take up the challenge of making one actress play all the 12 parts."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Sep 2009 | 6:49 am Akshay flies to Mumbai to celebrate his birthdayBollywood star Akshay Kumar, who turned 42 today, completed his shooting in Italy before schedule to be with his family here on his birthday.Source: Entertainment News | 9 Sep 2009 | 6:30 am Constable sets face on fire on TV reality showA police constable sustained burns after he set his face on fire after covering it with a piece of cloth for an act on a TV reality show, which will have Bollywood star Salman Khan as the celebrity guest. Before Shah Rukh Khan was to play the autistic character in the film My Name Is Khan, Karan Johar met Londoner Chris Aston who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome and his wife Maxine who wrote a book on how to cope with a spouse suffering from the disease.
Says Karan, "Shibani and I met the couple. They were gracious enough to meet us in London. And that couple's relationship became the basis of Rizwan and Mandira's relationship in My Name Is Khan. At its core level this film is a love story."
Continues Karan, "My writer Shibani Bhatija researched extensively on various aspects of an autistic disorder and contacted the various National Autistic Centers. Shibani and I personally met a lot of autistic people, took notes and went on youtube. Then Shah Rukh did his own research."
Karan admits this has been the most difficult film of his career. "It has taken its toll on me and Shah Rukh. It's true, Shah Rukh remained in character as Rizwan Khan even at home. At home in his body language he's always Rizwan. I see him doing it all the time. I don't think he has got out of it. Even when he's with his children at home."
Karan shot down the theory that Shah Rukh's disorder is inspired from Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. "It's not Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump at all. That was a totally different strain of autism. It's nearer to Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man, though still very different. It's what we call high-functional autism. You can have a regular life, be married, and have children. But the syndrome does convey a fair amount of quirks and eccentricities. But his character is not essentially neuro-typical. The film has made me understand human behaviour and how to be compassionate and humane."
The film has sapped Karan's energy. He needs to take a break. "I need to get away for a month. I don't think it will happen. But no harm in dreaming."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 9 Sep 2009 | 4:17 am
