Big B to be a part of 'Bigg Boss 3'

Click above for event stills After having got the whole world under his 'baritoned' sway, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan will now be seen in the world famous reality show 'Bigg Boss' (Season 3), that will get kick started on 'Colors' channel from the month of October. Contrary to what the whole world thought, Big B will not be in as a participant, but as a 'Pop philosopher'! Insiders have it that, since the said channel are well aware of the gravitational pull of Big B; they did not mind shelling the big bucks to take him on board. What will be really interesting is to see Amitabh yielding the spotlight again, after the famous 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', which was on Star Plus. As Rajesh Kamat (CEO of Colors) rightly puts it that they chose Big B, because, they needed to take the 'Bigg Boss' show to another level. At the same time, Kamat was candid enough to confess that if Big B hadn't agreed to do this show, they would have surely scrapped the very thought of the 'Pop Philosopher' on the show. Like everybody else, we at Bollywood Hungama, too begun the countdown for the nest season of 'Bigg Boss'!

After 'Chak De...', anything else is glam" - Sagarika Ghatge

Sagarika Ghatge She may love it or detest it, but the fact remains that she would always have a 'Chak De girl' tag attached to her. She may do much better work in her upcoming films as well, but her name would always rhyme with Preeti Sabharwal. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the young woman who is now returning to the silver screen with Fox, two years after Chak De India. Sagarika, finally we get to see you again in Fox! So where were you during last couple of years? (Laughs) Oh yes, it was a long break indeed. Not that I wanted it this way, but then it was perhaps destined. I am very excited about Fox though. I hope that people who loved my work in Chak De India would go, check out Fox and then like me in this film as well (smiles). As an actor, it is always a challenge to do your second film since audiences didn't have any perceptions about you in your first film. Once they appreciate you there, pressure only builds up to perform better in your subsequent outings. What made you sign a thriller after Chak De India? Because I can't keep playing a sportsperson all my life, can I (smiles)? At the end of the day, I am an actor who was doing her job in Chak De India and have done so again in Fox as well. Also, the fact is that I didn't start Fox right after the release of Chak De India. Something else also had come by but it didn't work out. The gap must have been frustrating.... Yes, there was a gap for sure but then the atmosphere during the last couple of years eased me in out and also prepared me in a way. I learnt a lot of things about this profession as well as life in general. I was inexperienced when I started off and even today, I am treating myself as a newcomer only. See, when Chak De... came to me, I was facing the camera for the first time. In fact, I had not even auditioned for the role and I was very-very raw. Since the role was more to do with how I did as a sportsperson, there was no make up or glamour quotient involved. Chak De... experience did help to a great degree though in grooming me. Just being on the sets was educative enough and an entirely new experience. Even after the film was released, there were so many shoots etc. that I attended which made time fly by. Sagarika Ghatge It must be quite some moment for you to be back in business with Fox, right? Of course. However, one has to be cautious before going gaga over your film because today, you don't know what's going to do well and what's not. Before you finalize a project, it's not about the best one to come your way. It's all about instinct. As long as you follow your instinct at that point in time and don't regret it later, you would always be satisfied. A film may or may not do well but you have to ensure that you are good enough for people to appreciate your performance. At the end of the day, they may have liked you in your first film but they would come and watch your third film only if you are good in second too. So how did you ensure that you are indeed good in your second film? (Laughs) Well, that's for audiences to come back and tell me how good or bad I was in Fox. I am happy with the fact that I didn't allow myself to play the role of a regular heroine in my short stint so far. Not that I am consciously avoiding that but I want to be more than just a good looking face on the sets. Even in Fox, where I play a lawyer, I am more than just an arm candy for Arjun. I am with him throughout at each and every move that he makes. Moreover, I work with him during each of his endeavours, as you would see in the film, rather than just sticking around like a regular girl. Since Arjun has been in the industry for 7-8 years already, he must have been a great help? See, all my co-stars have been very nice and professional. Yes, 90% of my scenes are with Arjun and our characterization is such that our love is mature rather than incorporating a typical girl-meets-boy relationship. This helped in raising the bar for our performances. For that matter, I have quite a few scenes with Sunny Deol also around and it was great to have a senior actor like him around. I don't have too many scenes with Udita, but we were nice and cordial with each other on sets. Sorry, no fireworks there (smiles)! How did the entire Chak De... experience help you during the shoot of Fox? Yes, there was little bit help from Chak De... though frankly, these two are entirely different films. Chak De.... was such a sports centric film and working in it was like being in a middle of a sports camp. It all really got into my psyche. Also, today when I see the film, I feel that I could have been much better in so many scenes. However, once I reached the sets of Fox, I had to consciously leave Chak De... behind since at the end of the day you are an actor and you have to get into the groove of different setups every now and then. Sagarika Ghatge So what was it about Fox that made you give it a green signal? Honestly, after Chak De...., I could have done lots of films. However, it was a conscious decision to go slow and I am glad that I stuck to it. I wanted the whole setup of my next film to be strong. It wasn't just about whom I was paired opposite with, though I have to mention that the entire experience of working with Arjun was great. Today, I am pretty content with what I have managed to do in Fox. Which includes looking glam? (Laughs) After Chak De…, anything else is glam! In Fox though, being glamorous is in a different way altogether because frankly, my role isn't the kind where I go full-on glam. The whole film is a thriller and there is a definite storyline that runs throughout the proceedings. Yes, it's a very strong role that I get to enact and my character is definitely not someone who is just hanging by a hero.

Now Shahid's CPD challenges Ranbir and Neil with three way clash

Shahid Kapoor Just yesterday, we had reported that Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail was confirmed for the 6th November clash with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Well, picture abhi baaki hai mere dost! Because, close on the heels of much awaited Ranbir and Neil box office clash, Shahid Kapoor has also joined the fray. Now his Chance Pe Dance too would be arriving on the same day, hence resulting in a three way clash. Even though director Ken Ghosh was unavailable for comment, a reliable source confirmed that plans are indeed being put together for Chance Pe Dance to be readied for 6th November release. "The film is complete and the promotion should begin any time now. As of now, 6th November looks like the best bet for the Shahid Kapoor-Genelia D'Souza starrer to release." If the three films indeed release on the same day, it would be the biggest and most interesting for clash of 2009. After all, there is a lot in store for each of the three principal protagonists in the three films. Neil has to consolidate his position after New York, Ranbir has to live up to his young heart throb image while Shahid would eventually create a big star standing for himself if Chance Pe Dance as well as Dil Bole Hadippa click at the box office after Kaminey. Given a chance though, Shahid would have liked to have his films spaced out. "See, such things can work either ways. If they all click, then well...wow, that's great. In the ideal world, it is good to have some gap between your films. But then, 2009 has hardly been an ideal world with releases being impacted due to producer's strike, swine flu etc. These have been hectic times for me too, as I have been shooting for Parmeet Sethi's Yash Raj film during and around the release of Kaminey. I am into the promotion of Dil Bole Hadippa now and soon after its release, I fly off to US for Parmeet's film. Then I return for the promotion of Chance Pe Dance." Download Dil Bole Hadippa! wallpapers This is why the release plans for Chance Pe Dance on 6th November have to be taken with a pinch of salt. The splurge of biggies all through November only makes the scenario increasingly uncomfortable for the makers. That's because as of now November has one biggie a week due to arrival of Tum Mile (13th November), Paa (20th) and De Dana Dan (27th Nov). Still, it would always be better for one of the three releases on 6th November to arrive on a later week and get into a two-way clash than the originally planned three-way clash. "Ken is ready with his product but one has to be seen whether logistically it would be possible to bring Chance Pe Dance on 6th November", says an industry insider, "A clash like this with two other big films is good for making spicy headlines and get some good gossip, buzz and hype going. However, the actors as well as other stakeholders involved with the film may not necessarily be gung-ho about this. Let's see who eventually backs out from the 6th November plans and comes later."

Subhash K. Jha speaks about Saamantar (Marathi)

Amol Palekar A hugely successful business tycoon decides that he wants to end his life on his 60th birthday. No he isn't ill. Just bored. We can call this marzi killing and be done. Since this is a unique method of voluntary death all the people in Keshav Vaze's life are naturally horrified by his unnatural death wish. His limping sister keeps crying on every available shoulder. And you do wonder if she could be the cause of Keshav's death wish. But before Keshav can get his wish he rediscovers love in the form of a bereft and lost Shama. Keshav's inert life gets a fresh lease. We can hope there's no sequel. Samaantar comes from Amol Palekar, one of the most gifted actor-filmmakers of the country. Amol Palekar's works, whether in Hindi or Marathi, always exude the scent of an inner strength. This one too is extremely strong on content. It goes into the whole question of worldly success and how it saps the individual of all spiritual solace. The film is shot in a minimalist light with the actors given to say their dialogues without props. The mix of theatrical and cinematic devices and some moody (though uneven) cinematography(by Asim Bose) gives the narrative the flavour of an experimental excursion into the soul of a man who'd rather die than live meaninglessly. Tragically, Sandhya Gokhale's screenplay is riddled with coincidences and inconsistencies. We see the protagonist as a happily-adjusted man with a fairly supportive colleagues and family (except for a stereotypically seedy brother-in-law Makrand Deshpande). There's no earthly reason for him to die. Not just that, the man actually becomes a champion for mercy killing with people writing letters (why letters in this day and age of email and SMS?) asking for guidance on how to kill themselves. The plot is peppered with unintentional humour. There are musical snatches that only Amol Palekar hears. Maybe it's meant to be like those films that only their directors understand? Every time the music plays, he goes into a swoon. The businessman's meeting with Shama (Sharmila Tagore) during a chance visit to Kolkata and her turning out to be the mother of one of his staffers (Sameer Dharamadhikari) is too much like Gulzar's Mausam, and too coincidental to hold together a plot that attempts to build an ambitious bridge between the outer world and the subconscious. Keshav's meeting with Shama could have been the emotional highpoint of the film. Instead, it's jerky and almost 'jokey' with a Shreya Ghosal song playing in the background, while Sharmila Tagore's absent- minded looks suggest longing for lost love. Sharmila looks as ravishing as expected. But her performance suffers in a sketchy role. The hasty happy finale where Palekar runs into an old friend of Shama at the boutique and returns to Shama for good leaves Samaantar looking like an unfinished work of art that could've done with a lot more polishing and far more finesse in the screenplay. See it for Amol Palekar's nuanced performance, if you've enjoyed his earlier directorial ventures Ankahee and Aakriet. We aren't even mentioning Paheli.

Subhash K. Jha speaks about Three: Love Lies Betrayal

Three - Love, Lies, Betrayal This one can't go 'Scot' free. The Scottish locales shot with tender care by cinematographer Pravin Bhatt are in one word: breathtaking. In two words breathtaking and eloquent. And if you want a third word, here it is. Ominous! Often, thrillers about disturbances within the human heart are manifested in outdoors that mock the deceptive method behind the madness. That theme is taken to quite a peek-a-boo peak of visual beauty in Three... As the title suggests, there are only three characters locked in a battle for property custody in a Scottish mansion that is as spacious as it is incriminating. Akshay Kapoor (last seen as a chalky chum in a desi remake of Powder) is the embittered husband, pounding away on his laptop in search of virtual gratification. Once a television star, Nausheen Ali Sardar gets the tough role of a wife trapped in luckless (if not loveless) marriage. She tries to blend the guilt of Mala Sinha in Gumrah with the deceptive sensuality of Zeenat Aman in Dhund. This isn't the occasion for high ambition. Ashish Chowdhary gets the role of a lifetime as the house guest turned psychotic intruder who wants to take over the couple's life and home. Rent-a-psycho, anyone? Debutant director Vishal Pandya keeps the theme of adultery and deception going without getting his plot into a messy lather. There's an uncluttered stripped-down quality to the narrative that helps us to get into the sordid triangle without much ado. The narrative is elegantly paced. And the dialogues hint at a layer of eroticism without actually reaching for it. Come to think of it, there's an absence of lovemaking sequences in a film that talks about infidelity. Not even a kiss, chaste or otherwise. Kya yaar! To its credit, the film keeps us watching to the end, not necessarily because we care for these despicable characters caught in what one of the trio calls a 'Kaminey contest' but because we want to see how and if, the threesome pick up the broken pieces of the life. Three - Love, Lies, Betrayal Suspiciously, close to Ira Levin's play Deathtrap, in the way the husband, wife and intruder cross each other's prickly path, Three is carried forward by eye-catching locales and ear-catching background music by Raju Khan. The three principal players go from over-the-top to the absent-minded without bringing the plot down. Akshay Kapoor as the weak embittered and violent husband has the toughest part. He gets some of the most ironical and hard-hitting lines. Inebriated and driving back with his wife and her secret lover (secret to him, not to us), Kapoor mocks himself for being the 'wife' in the marriage. "She wears the pants, I wear the skirt. In bed, there's a Great Wall Of China between us," hisses Kapoor while the wife Nausheen Ali Sardar tries to look embarrassed. She barely succeeds. Just like the film.

"My character in Acid Factory is very feminine and sexy but also strong" - Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza "I opened my wardrobe and this is what I picked. A black and white dress from a store called 'White and Black' in America. I love their stuff. Their entire store only sells white and black", and there she was, an epitome of goodness with a larger than life smile. So elegantly dressed as always. No attitude pouring down her cheeks. Only her irresistible persona and riveting presence that hits you like a tonne of bricks. We wave at each other even from an arms length, a warm hug got us close which tells, that we both were in for a good ol' session of Q and A again. Dia, who is disarmingly easygoing comes across as more delicately beautiful and finely featured in her black and white dress than her hundreds of red-carpet photographs. Mirza may be in ultimate ass-kicking mode on the big screen this October with Acid Factory but when UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel spoke to the ethereally eternal beauty, she looked more like the world's most famous Barbie doll sitting on the barb wire who talked about well dressed men, the lost memory syndrome, her six male co-stars, her walking-the-edge type of roles and how she surprised her producer and director with an unbelievable makeover. Please welcome the all new Dia Mirza - rough, tough and the rugged. What's a beautiful babe doing with not so good looking men? (laughs) Trying to make them all look good and I think I've succeeded in doing that. The posters looks exciting, doesn't it? Max, the character I play in the film is a tough woman. She is very feminine and sexy but at the same time she is strong You in Acid Factory remind me of Angelina Jolie in Wanted... I think because Max, the character I play in the film is a tough woman. She is very feminine and sexy but at the same time she is strong. So I guess the vibe is in the similar space. Any moment you can recall of having lost your memory? (laughs) No but my mom has. I was actually talking to somebody yesterday and she said something really interesting to me. She said that she had lost her memory for six hours after falling off from a bus and a police case was filed. She had no memory of her name, where she was from, nothing. But when they asked her to sign, she just signed her name. And I was like, 'That's what the film is all about.' When you lose your memory, you don't lose yourself. You are still who you were before losing your memory. Your physicality, characteristics, intonation, reaction and your subconscious remains the same, right? I didn't want to know anything because there are certain plots and stories that don't need that What's so exciting to make a film with no memory? That's the most exciting part. You've planted six people in the Acid Factory who have no memory and don't know how and why they got there. It's very easy to play characters if the plot is right. My director, Suparn Verma, recalled a moment during the making of the film when I asked him that I didn't want to know anything about Max, where she is from, etc. Usually I do a character sketch for most of my films. For this one, I didn't want to know anything because there are certain plots and stories that don't need that. Acid Factory is one such film. And what do you exactly mean? I mean that sometimes situations are more important than pretext. Your responses to what is happening within that moment is more important. There are three things that I needed to know. One was: She was on the wrong side of the law, was unabashed about it and she was an extremely confident woman. The story of Acid Factory is a bird's eye view. Somebody else is telling you the story and that's what makes it exciting. We hear a lot about Danny Denzongpa's etiquettes? Is that man on a mission? Yes. Danny stands for discipline. He is a class apart. That man is so amazing to talk to. I would just spend hours chatting with him in between shots. I mean, these people are carrying history with them. They've been around for so many years. They've worked with all kinds of filmmakers and so many actors. I also found out that he has a brewery in Sikkim and he actually makes beer. He goes off into the hills and lives most of the time there. He has got a beautiful home in Juhu. He has got a gorgeous son who is studying in London and he is a kind of man who doesn't work post six in the evening. He follows certain norms by which he lives all his life. He wakes up at six in the morning and goes for a swim. He swims for about forty five minutes and is fit as a fiddle. He is an institution and it's really unfortunate that people don't give them their due credit. I think my generation hardly knows him but they should. Go on then, don't stop. What about Manoj Bajpai? I've worked with Manoj Bajpai in Dus Kahaniyaan. He is super fun and is actually quite a brat. People think that Bajpai has this really serious image about him but he can be really funny and can get naughty sometimes. He is the one who is thinking like - Whose arm am I going to twist today and who am I going to bully today (laughs). Four more to go - Dino, Aftab, Fardeen Irrfan... Dino is again somebody with whom I've worked with before. He is a wonderful person. Dino is too nice actually. Aftab is a bit of a loner. He usually keeps to himself because after pack up we never really saw him. We only heard his music (laughs). That's the way he is made. Nobody was offended by it but of course, we ragged him for not making it to all the after parties (laughs). Fardeen is one of the most well read, dignified and charming man I know. He is so under rated. And Irrfan has of course proclaimed to the world what he is all about and we have accepted it. Irrfan is also an institution. There is one more. One who is fit to be a princess - Dia Mirza. She has worked so damn hard (laughs). To train is one thing. We all work hard but I think after I read the script of Acid Factory, I understood that I had to work three hundred times harder on this one. It was very important to see her strength exude in even a frame of a photograph where she is just standing next to so many men. And because she had to be on par with them, she had to reflect that strength. I had to do an am-pm workout with my trainer Rakesh Udyar. He was nothing short of being a Hitler. I used to train for two hours in the morning, two hours in the evening, go all the way to Film City at five in the morning to train with Tinu Varma for the action sequences for three hours, drive back and hit the gym, go back home, catch a nap, wake up, run back to the gym again and phew! It was tough but I enjoyed it because I discovered new levels of strength that I never ever thought I had. I was lifting weights, running distances, etc. It was a huge self realisation. I used to train for two hours in the morning, two hours in the evening, go all the way to Film City at five in the morning to train with Tinu Varma for the action sequences for three hours What's your prerogative while you do a film then? It's very simple. It has to be convincing and natural. I don't want people to come out of the theatre and say - What a body she had! I want them to come out and say - Wow man! She is solid and is a strong chic. She could stand her ground. She didn't look like a misfit. That's what I want. Will a film like Acid Factory question the intelligence of the audience? Not at all. People will love it. I think I am a fairly intelligent person. I've seen the film and I loved it. I didn't have a problem with anything. I hate when people say that it's an action film. Yes, action is a part of the film but the film is about the plot and what these guys are doing in the factory. You've been a part of many Sanjay Gupta films off late. Yeah but Sanjay Gupta didn't even see me for Acid Factory. He didn't even think of me for the film. Sanjay has always seen me as a sensitive, petite, demur person and he has always cast me in parts like that. Sanjay never perceives me as aggressive. He thinks that I am just a sweet little girl who's just going to take all the sh** in the world and never complaint about it, and I do that (laughs). But that does not mean there is another side to me that I'm willing to explore. If you are an actor and cannot essay different parts, then why are you acting? I had to beg to be cast in this film. I threatened them with dire consequences (laughs). Just kidding. I secretly worked out, came to Mumbai, went to his office, met with him and the director. Suparn was floored by my enthusiasm and commitment. And you did a screen test? I told Sanjay and Suparn that I'll do a screen test and whatever it takes to land this role in Acid Factory. In fact, very few actors in Bollywood do a screen test. I believe that screen test is a must to convince your director that you can do your part well, that you are fit for the role. But they didn't get me to do a screen test. We did a photo shoot instead. You are so very creative. Yes and you have to be. You'll understand when I say that it is very vital to be surrounded by people who are as enthused by what you're doing as you are. Suparn, the director got flattered by the same enthusiasm.
