As for SRK, after bagging this premium endorsement deal, he has indeed proved that they don't call him 'King Khan' for nothing.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 4 Sep 2009 | 7:01 am Neil Nitin Mukesh takes on Ranbir Kapoor, Jail to clash with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
The release date of Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail has been announced. The film would now be releasing on 6th November, the same day when Ranbir Kapoor's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is slated to arrive. This would pretty much be an event to look forward to, as both Neil and Ranbir find a place for themselves in the top bracket of youngsters (including Imran Khan) that Bollywood currently boasts of.
Confirms a close associate of Madhur Bhandarkar, "Yes, Jail is positively coming on 6th November. After some pondering, it was eventually decided to bring Jail on this date. It's a good day to bring on the film."
Trade is expected to be upbeat with the clash of the two films since both Jail and Raj Kumar Santoshi directed Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani have good credentials to boast of. While Neil made people stand up and take notice of him all over again with the release of New York, the film that brought industry out of a slump after ending a six month long draught, Ranbir too had shone in Bachna Ae Haseeno that released last year.
Both actors did face some hard times at the box office in the early stages of their career though. Even though Neil and Ranbir were immensely appreciated in their debut films (Johnny Gaddaar and Saawariya respectively), box office wasn't too kind at them. Neil did face a setback in Aa Dekhen Zara though Ranbir bounced back with Bachna Ae Haseeno. Meanwhile, Neil too was soon back in the reckoning with New York.
This makes Jail and Ajab Prem.... really crucial releases for both Neil and Ranbir. While Neil has given it all to this hard hitting drama by National Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar, Ranbir too has been having an eventful season with Wake Up Sid (arriving on 2nd October) preceding the release of Ajab Prem.....
An industry follower comments, "Since Imran has suffered two back to back setbacks in Kidnap followed by Luck, the battle line is now drawn between Neil and Ranbir. Of course Imran has it in him to bounce back and he certainly will eventually. However, as of now, all eyes are on Neil and Ranbir."
"Stakes are particularly high for Neil because Ranbir still has some back up in the form of Wake Up Sid, Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year and Rajneeti. For Neil, Jail is a crucial film since he hasn't signed anything else and has placed all his bets on Jail. The film has to work for him by all means. Given the fact that Madhur has decided to take on competition with Ajab Prem...' it shows his confidence in the product. This will certainly be a clash to look out for this season", he concludes.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 4 Sep 2009 | 6:58 am Big B starrer Paa to release on Children's Day
The highly-rated Cheeni Kum director Balki is releasing his extremely unusual role-reversal drama Paa on November 13, as a tribute to Children's Day. "It's a film about the child within the man and the man within the child. And I can't think of a better tribute to the child than Children's Day," says Balki, who completed the shooting of the film in England recently.
After shooting his two feature films Cheeni Kum and now Paa in England, Balki wants to return to the country again. "We shot Paa in my favourite location England. Throughout the stint in Cambridge, we were at sea, never on land. I love shooting in London. I shot my first two films there. If I had my way, I'd shoot all my films there." Balki took up the challenge of projecting the Big B like never before. "In Cheeni Kum, I really didn't have to do anything. I made him play himself. Here in Paa, I had to bring out that child within him, which has always been there. We tapped that part of him. It wasn't easy for Amitji to play a child at heart. Fortunately, Abhishek and Vidya Balan too are extremely intelligent actors. She has played such a charming mom. Throughout the film, they behave as if Amitji is their son. For Abhishek, this was his chance to get even with his dad."
Any regrets about not casting Tabu again? "After what she did with Amitji in Cheeni Kum it wasn't possible to cast her in Vidya's role." Balki is not bothered with how the audience will accept the two actors in reversed roles. "There's no point in making a film if it doesn't push envelopes. I won't do a film that doesn't challenge me and my actors."
Another ongoing leitmotif in Balki's cinema is the music of Ilaiyaraja. "He's God. He has been a major source of inspiration. I don't think that India has known a better music composer than him. Sadly, one-half of India has not heard him enough."
For Cheeni Kum, Balki specifically asked Ilaiyaraja for tunes from his Tamil films. "I wanted Hindi moviegoers to hear those times. Even in Paa, I've transposed some of his South Indian tunes into Hindi. It's not that important to be original. It's more important to do what you believe in."
Balki is miffed that the Big B's Progeria look has been leaked out. "Fortunately, that's only a part of his look. No one came on the set to see how he looks on camera. The makeup person was given a computer-generated picture of Amitji. He improvised a lot on that and added traits from real Progeria patients."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 4 Sep 2009 | 6:53 am Oye! Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 4 Sep 2009 | 5:46 am "Fox is an intelligent thriller" - Arjun Rampal
He played a lawyer in his very first film, Moksha (2001). Now eight years later, he returns as an advocate in Fox. He is Arjun Rampal, who has seen a definite momentum in his career during last couple of years with commercial successes like Rock On (2008) and Om Shanti Om (2007). Of course, there was an EMI (2008) which came and went, though The Last Lear (2008) was still decent enough compensation as it fetched him immense critical acclaim. On the eve of the release of Fox, Arjun Rampal talks about the roller-coaster ride that he has taken in his professional career and how Fox too boasts of a thrilling roller coaster ride in itself.
From being a rock star to an advocate, it seems like quite some journey for you Arjun...
Well, this is not the first time that I am playing the role of an advocate. I did play a lawyer in Moksha as well. The two films are poles apart though. There is a lot that I want to talk about Fox, but the fact is that, whatever little that I may say could possibly hint upon the suspense angle in the film. I don't wish to spoil the fun element for audiences who would be watching Fox in theaters. It is really difficult to describe this thriller and you would know what I mean once you will watch the movie.
Are you hinting at Om Shanti Om?
Exactly. I remember that I was so scared about doing Om Shanti Om. This is when Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan put the entire detailing of the character across me and the confidence they had in me. They made me understand the value of doing that part and told me that the victory would be mine if I am successfully able to pull it through convincingly. After all, my character had to grow from someone who was 30 year old to a 60 year old man. I am glad that I listened to them because; doing my part well in the film meant that a lot of people start looking at you as an actor.
Even The Last Lear got you some good recognition as an actor...
And to think of it, I was shooting for both The Last Lear and Om Shanti Om simultaneously. Rituparno Ghosh has an entirely different approach of filmmaking and the way an actor should approach a character. I was enriched with this experience as I learnt a lot on how to justify a character. Now I know good enough stuff to contribute a lot to the whole film rather than just looking at my character, regardless of it being a small or a big part of a film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 4 Sep 2009 | 5:37 am Stars mourn at Jackson's burialTen weeks after his drug-induced death, the late pop superstar Michael Jackson was buried on Thursday in a private ceremony for family and friends at a cemetery for the stars in Los Angeles.Source: Entertainment News | 4 Sep 2009 | 5:35 am Sanjay Dutt was unsure about IPL bidLike his colleagues Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, Sanjay Dutt also wants his share of the Indian Premier League (IPL) pie.Source: Entertainment News | 4 Sep 2009 | 4:36 am MJ Underwent Sperm Count Boost Operation, Why? - Oneindia

On Tuesday morning, the appeals court in Kolkata ordered that the entire Box-Office collections of the Bengali film Poran Jay Jolaye Re be deposited in the court. The film which was released a couple of months ago to a rousing welcome in Bengal is said to have so far collected whopping figures at the Box-Office.
By depositing the entire collection at the Box-Office, the producers Venkatesh Films of the Bengali film stand to lose a substantial amount of money.
Says Vipul, "They've to deposit every single penny that the film has collected. The judgment of the appeals court says that the 'entire' Box-Office collection of the Bengali film be deposited in court. It is historic in terms of violation of copyright infringement. To know the court can stop a film is a clear signal that plagiarism can be fought. The judgment will now be a reference point for all plagiarism cases. It was needed. Every filmmaker contemplating plagiarism will now think twice."
The alleged copyright violators of the Bengali film can now appeal in the Supreme Court. As for the money that the court has confiscated from the Bengali film's collection, it is now legally a part of a damage suit that Vipul chooses to file.
"However I don't want any monetary compensation. That wasn't my intention. I wanted to make a strong case against copyright infringement. The honourable court has done the needful. I think its victory for all us filmmakers. We used to make a joke about copyright laws by saying copyright means the right to copy. I think the joke has now ended."
Akshay Kumar who's the co-producer of Namastey London has decided not to sign any film that he knows to be an illegal copy
Says Akshay, "By God's grace, all my films seem to be original. Even Vipul's Action Replay which some people think is a copied from elsewhere (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) is original. People who spread these rumours should be careful. Copying films is as serious an offence as accusing an original work of being a copy."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Sep 2009 | 5:51 am Prachi Desai is new face of Neutrogena cosmetics in IndiaBollywood actress Prachi Desai is the new face of international cosmetics brand Neutrogena in the Indian market.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 3 Sep 2009 | 5:32 am Sanjay Dutt to join IPL; may buy upcoming Ahmedabad or Nagpur team
When Sanjay Dutt met Lalit Modi to buy a new cricket team for himself, he wasn't aware that the media would be informed and waiting for him at the hotel in
suburban Mumbai.
Apparently, the media is duly informed every time a superstar decides to negotiate for an IPL team.
Says a source, "The idea is to let it be known that big stars are getting progressively involved with the IPL. That attracts more money, eyeballs and junta
interest. So on Wednesday evening when Dutt reached the Hyatt, he was taken aback to see media persons swarming the place. His first impulse was to flee."
However, Dutt had a fruitful meeting with Modi where he discussed his apprehensions and curiosities about purchasing an IPL team.
Says the source, "Sanjay's main concern was, would he be able to buy the team because of his court cases? There are many things that he can't do, like
endorsements, etc. Sanjay was assured there would be no problem. With the removal of TADA charges, Dutt now has right equal to every other Indian citizen."
Having got that apprehension out of the way, Dutt questioned Lalit Modi about the nitty-gritty of the IPL team. There're two new teams in Ahmedabad and
Nagpur coming up in December. Sanjay might buy either," informs the source.
There are efforts now to optimize celebrity participation and generation of money through star presence in the IPL.
It is reliably learnt that Shah Rukh Khan, for example, will be charging neat packets from the aam janta for attending matches and post-match events
like dinners where the closer the janta sits to the star, the more it will cost.
Preity Zinta has recently taken on a television show where she'll be seen hobnobbing interacting and conversing with all her IPL cricketers. She had made a
neat packet from the deal with Star Plus.
"So you see the stars are working towards building a bigger bucks bank for the IPL," says the source.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Sep 2009 | 5:25 am Shilpa Shetty is frantically learning Indian recipes for her restaurant business
Shilpa is India's new mistress of spices to Britain. And she's taking her job very seriously. It looks like a sabbatical from acting for Shilpa as she gets busy in her new role as an international cuisine queen.
And the best thing about her new role is, Shilpa doesn't want to go the Tarla Dalal or Madhur Jaffrey way. No instant cook books for the latest recipe Rani. Shilpa wants to go the whole hog.
On the lookout for the rarest and most exotic and undiscovered dishes Shilpa will now cruise to the remotest parts of India in search of new recipes.
In coming months and years, Shilpa hopes to spread the aroma of Indian spices and curries to every part of the world. In her new avatar as the part-owner of a reputed chain of restaurants and Indian cuisine in Britain, Shilpa Shetty is adamant to prove she is not just a glamorous name for the franchise as she was accused of being in cricket.
Shilpa intends to lend not just her name and glamorous persona to her new food-brand 'Shilpa's Gourmet Creations' she's also determined to be a hands-on mistress of spices.
The lady currently more an entrepreneur than an actress, is learning as many recipes from Britain's celebrity chef Andy Varma as she can. Once she returns to India, Shilpa will enter her mom's kitchen and get to part with all her famous secret recipes.
Says Shilpa excitedly from London. "Everyone presumed I was as big a novice at cuisine. Not true. I've always enjoyed cooking. And I love cooking for my friends and family. Now with Raj (Kundra) and me becoming part of Andy Varma's chain, my interest in cooking has turned into a passion."
Shilpa has now gone from skimming through trade magazines to scrutinizing recipe books. The dishy actress is learning new dishes everyday from master chef Andy Varma
Determined not to let the cynics snigger about her new role as cuisine queen, Shilpa says, "You'd be surprised to know how popular Indian food is in England. Do you know the country's favourite dish is chicken tikka masala? I want them to discover our food beyond the obvious currys and biryanis. And all our Indian snacks and meals will contain under 10 percent fat."
To discover the food of India, Shilpa is now a complete foodie. "Not eating, but preparing. Nowadays I'm a sucker for recipes."
Poppadom in Memorium. That could well be the signature chant for Shilpa Shetty's new avatar as a cuisine queen.
From being called a 'poppadom' by Jade Goody to providing bonus papads with her new lineup of cuisine in Britain, Shilpa has come a long way. And she doesn't deny it.
"It's true. Jade, God bless her soul, used to call me 'Poppadam' on Big Brother. It used to hurt. Today we've papad as bonus for all the snacks and meals that I'm associated with. It's really ironic."
However, she stresses that her food offer is in no way homage to Jade Goody, as reported in the British press.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Sep 2009 | 4:50 am Priyanka Chopra signed as Brand Ambassador for Levis
