Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 31 Aug 2009 | 8:45 am Rs. 120 cr. deal between Indian Films & Vipul for London Dreams scrapped
Exactly a year back, right after the release of Singh Is Kinng, it was announced amidst much fanfare that Indian Films
was in the process of acquiring London
Dreams for a never heard before figure of Rs. 120 crores. It was obvious that Vipul Shah, maker of this Salman Khan,
Ajay Devgan and Asin starrer, had hit the jackpot with the biggest ever deal for a Bollywood film.
However, as things stand today, the deal is scrapped. Indian Films is no longer associated with London Dreams and Vipul Shah is happy to go
back to the old school method of selling the film to various distributors across the country.
"Yes, there is nothing happening with Indian Films as far as London Dreams is concerned. Frankly, I am not dependent
on the corporate houses to see my film release in theaters. I have enough distributors across the country who are willing to
pick the film and I am more than glad to release the film through them", says Vipul Shah who has announced the release of the
film as 30th October and has already begun the promotional campaign.
Looking at the response that the promos are expected to generate, what if a corporate house, including even Indian Films,
shows a renewed interest in the project and is willing to renegotiate? Would he be willing to have a discussion?
"See, I am doing business here. Whatever works best for my film, I will do that. But no, I am not waiting for anyone here.
There are great offers already and it's a matter of time before they are sealed and announced", Vipul responds.
While the figure quoted by Vipul was Rs. 120 crores at the time of announcement of London Dreams, it is but natural
that in today's market scenario, the amount would be much lesser. This is understandable too since the entire recession and
slow down did impact consumers as well as the making of the films, something that reflects in the extremely poor success rate
that Bollywood had to show for most part of the first half of 2009.
No wonder, while Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan is said to have been sold for Rs. 98 crores, even Kites and Three Idiots have not crossed the elusive Rs.
100 crores mark.
"These are all big films that you mention and also the most anticipated in the coming months. Hence they also serve as a
benchmark for us", says Vipul, "Since London Dreams too pretty much falls in the same bracket, it would be a matter of
5%-10% drift. Our film is not far behind either."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Aug 2009 | 7:43 am TV show in Japan on Susan Boyle

Everyone in Punjab wants a glimpse of their soni kudi Harleen from Love Aaj Kal. And Giselle Monteiro hearing the clamor for her in the land of the five rivers was supposed to join her director Imtiaz Ali in Chandigarh recently.
Alas, man proposes, producer disposes. Apparently, the Love Aaj Kal co-producers Eros were reluctant to fund Giselle's trip to and stay in Punjab.
The pretty Brazilian model turned actress is of course politically correct in her response. "Yes, I was supposed to be in Chandigarh with Imtiaz. But I couldn't make it on time. I know they want to see me in Punjab. Maybe later..." She trails of with an uncomfortable laugh, choosing to focus on the good things that are happening to her career.
Giselle is kicked about the fact that her first film is such a success. "I loved playing this Punjabi kudi," she says with her cute thick accent. "And that's the only Punjabi I know. I've seen some black-and-white Bollywood films from the 1960s to understand the mannerisms and body language of the era."
Giselle's favourite actress is her first co-star Saif Ali Khan's mother Sharmila Tagore. "Imtiaz showed me her films. Because she had the kind of personality Imtiaz wanted me to project. I learnt a lot from her. She is soooooo beautiful."
Giselle wanted to meet Sharmila. "But I didn't get a chance. If I did I'd tell her how amazing I find her. I love her in her movies. She's wow."
She also wants to go to Goa. "Because there're lots of Monteiros in Goa."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Aug 2009 | 7:32 am Akshay Kumar finally completes 12-year-old filmA 12-year-old film finally got completed this week, thanks to its leading man Akshay Kumar's determination not to have a single film in the cans.Source: Entertainment News | 31 Aug 2009 | 7:24 am Review: LEADTEK 285 GTX
NVIDIA has lucratively employed their 55 nm production process for the GT200 GPUs resulting in the GTX 285. The card presents additional performance, consumes less power and is noiseless compared to the previous model. The clock increases output by about 5%, with the lead getting better at higher resolutions. NVIDIA switch-over to 55 nm allows roughly 10% in die production cost savings which gives them a clear advantage to compete against ATI products with price-cuts.
The Leadtek 285 GTX has a lot to offer in its robust package. It is packed with PCI Express 2.0 GPU (GPU/Memory Clock at 648/2484 MHz), which is the support platform for next generation PCs. With a 1024MB, 512-bit memory interface, the card provides a sleek, pragmatic gaming exposure at Ultra-High Resolutions /AA/AF gaming. The card is juiced with the 3-way NVIDIA SLI technology, which offers an incredible performance. With this card, one can get the most unbelievable Blu-ray and HD DVD Movie experience on a Gaming PC. NVIDIA PhysX Ready enables a completely new level of physical gaming interface for a more lively and realistic experience with Geforce. The Dual Dual-Link DVI feature supports hardwares with breathtaking 2560 x 1600 resolutions, such as the 30-inch HD LCD Display, with gigantic load of pixels.
The card also features ample of gear like PCI Express 2.0 Support, GigaThread Technology, NVIDIA Lumenex Engine, High-Speed GDDR3, Dual 400MHz RAMDACs, High dynamic-range (HDR) Rendering, NVIDIA® PureVideo , OpenGL 2.1 Optimizations, etc.
The Leadtek WinFast GTX 285 is in the league of the fastest graphic cards in the market today and has processing power that was inconceivable just a short time ago. It's probably the best overclocking video cards to ever hit the market, adding to an immense value to an already amazing card. The hushed fansink on this card is hardly audible at its default setting, but if you want crank it up while gaming it will lower the card's temperatures a bit.

It's a dream team. It is an abiding regret for Sanjay Bhansali that he couldn't work with Smita Patil.
Now his dream has come true in the most unexpected way. Smita's son Prateik will be starring in a film produced by Bhansali to be made later this year.
The film entitled My Friend Pinto will be directed by Raghav Dar who assisted Mani Ratnam during Guru and then served as the associate director on Abbas Tyrewala's Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. That's when Raghav got to know Prateik. They decided to work together whenever Raaghav directs his first film.
Prateik will play the title role in My Friend Pinto. He had a captivating cameo in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.
Naturally Prateik's aunt Manya Patil is thrilled by the progress that Prateik is making. "When the director Abbas Tyrewala told me about the role in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na it, I wasn't so sure. It sounded like a small role. But Abbas told me to trust him. And that the role was tailor-made for Prateik. To his credit the role turned out exactly the way it was narrated. I'm glad Prateik's career is working out. Today there is room for all kinds of cinema. And like his mom, we want Prateik to be adventurous in his choices. I'm there to guide him, though I'm not really part of the film industry," says the proud aunt. Manya Patil has produced one film Dubai Returned featuring Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta.
Talking about Bhansali, Prateik says, "It's a privilege to be working with Mr. Bhansali. When I met him I was amazed to find out how normal he is in spite of being an artiste of such a high caliber."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Aug 2009 | 5:06 am Kate Moss wants to be young forever

Jha speaks about Shob Charitro Kalponik
Very often in life the people whom we love the most let us down the most. Not so in art, though, where feelings can be fudged with telling lucidity without losing the authentic ambience of a world that exists outside the mundane.
In Shob Charitro Kalponik (SCK) that wizard of sensitive storytelling from Kolkata, Rituparno Ghosh takes his protagonist the unhappy wife Radhika on a journey that opens doors within her heart that she would have liked to remain closed.
Sach ka samna is not just a reality show. It's also a reality that cannot be shown as cinema without a basic element of subterfuge. Ghosh occupies the two mutually exclusive yet inseparable world of art and reality with a fluency and effortlessness that takes his characters far beyond the cartel of prototypes.
We see Radhika, trapped in state of marital unhappiness, as not just woman struggling to keep her home and heart together, but also as an individual trying to find her identity against odds that are created mainly in her own mind.
Orson Welles style the 'real' personality of the dead poet emerges in fitful flashbacks which are more cursory than comprehensive. But then when has life ever offered complete solutions to the riddle of marriage that has puzzled man (and woman) for centuries?
Echoes that reach back to the very core of humanity reverberate across this miniature masterpiece on marriage and fidelity. Ghosh's forte is the unspoken word. The bonds that form between Radhika and her maid and between Radhika and her colleague (Jisshu Sengupta) rely on resonances beyond the rhetorics of interactive art. The director creates room in cramped spaces.
Most of Ritu's narrative are vibrant vignettes behind closed doors done up in deep shades of anguish and bitterness. The progression towards a mellower comprehension of the tenderness behind the seeming spousal insensitivity begins after the husband's death. The irony of loving a spouse after he's gone is far from lost.
Radhika's tormented understanding of her dead poet -husband's inner world is laced with luminous moments of revelatory tragedy, leading up to a finale that's surreal and introspective. The hallucinogenic conclusion where Radhika enters her husband's poetic world is charming controlled and yet frightening.
Ritu's cinematographer Soumik Haldar shoots the interior of Radhika's home as a manifestation of her innermost turmoil. She paces the bedroom , speaks to her dead husband, scolds and accuses him, as the family's silently-observant maid tries to come to terms with the enormity of Radhika's self-recrimination and loss.
SCK is a work suffused with longing for a world that has slipped out of the protagonist's fingers while she was counting the money in her purse. It's the illuminating story of a woman's voyage into the dimmed light of a yesterday that she thought was wretched.
But it was just life.
Finally, the impact of the marital tale depends completely on the central performance. As the working wife who feels her husband has let down their marriage Bipasha Basu pulls out all stops to deliver her career's best performance. Her moments of anguish before and after her screen-husband's deaths are expressed in tones of cathartic conviction that we never knew existed within Bipasha.
In the scene where she shouts against her imaginary husband on his favourite chair Bipasha furnishes the proceedings with the anguished portrayal of bereavement that perhaps only a Shabana Azmi can equal.
This despite the fact that Bipasha's voice has been dubbed by a woman who doesn't really have a say in the character's portrayal.
But then in an ironic way, isn't that what the character is all about? The disembodied voice is a reminder of Radhika's dissociation from her own identity.
Somewhere in finding the centre to her marriage, Radhika lost it. And loss, as we all know, is one helluva upper for art.
Savour the delicacy of Rituparno Ghosh's poetic work. And never mind the spoken language. In a true work of art the sound is the least important component.
Listen carefully. You can hear the muffled sound of a broken heart in this film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 31 Aug 2009 | 4:21 am Wake Up Sid will cross the boundaries... - Oneindia

Jha talks about Kisaan
Sohail Khan is the most underrated Khan in the film industry. Comic roles or something requiring an intense application in the midst of abject melodrama like Kisaan, Sohail knows his craft and he uses it with crafty transparency.
Sohail had earlier done a fairly watchable take on the question of Indianness in I Proud To Be An Indian with the same director. In Kisaan, Sohail champions the cause of rural life with a plot that nudges Manoj Kumar's Upkar. It's a nudge that doesn't topple the patriotism over.
The story of a wizened father (Jackie Shroff, sufficiently wise in look and makeup) and his two sons, one gone to the city (Arbaaz) and eventually seed marries a girl who's
blessedly not the urban predator-vamp. The other is a quiet faithful son who stays with his father in the Punjabi farm ploughing not just the land but also goons who dare to
cross their path.
The authentic Punjabi locales replete with lush stretches of sarso ke khet hand pumps and sugarcane juice give the film a rugged and credible climate. However many of the peripheral characters especially the corrupt villainous caucus is purely caricatural. If subtlety is your big cinematic turn-on then Kisaan may not be your cup of tea... or should that be glass of lassi?
Kisaan is like a tall spiced-up glass of lassi, not quite malaai maar ke. It's an unabashed celebration of old-fashioned melodrama with dollops of bone-crunching action in the last 30 minutes that leaves us wondering if Manoj Kumar ever imagined the fight to hold on to the land could ever get so violent and bloody.
The principal characters seem to inhabit rural Punjab with comforting familiarity. The ambience is conducive to a demonstration of flamboyant emotions. The direction is
often ramrod straight and literal. The film's charm lies in its ability to be an old-fashioned cliché without getting wobbly.
However, the Punjabi songs and the hideous remix of Mahendra Kapoor's 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' get on the nerves. But Sanjoy Chowdhary's background music is
first-rate in its ability to be replicate the character's emotional graph.
