This week's Blueprint 3 leaks may have let us down, but Drake, Kanye, Eminem, and Lil Wayne sure haven't — "Forever," a mix-tape track from last summer, reworked for the soundtrack to the LeBron James documentary, More Than a Game (just go with it), is a beast. We’ll just get our one complaint out the way quick: Really, Dreezy — you’re “shutting shit down in the mall”? Scooping a lot of girls at Auntie Anne’s? Stacking paper at Claire’s? Anyway, that aside, we, just like the rest of the Internet, totally love this thing. The appropriately epic beat is served up by Boi-1da, the ascendant Toronto producer behind “Best I Ever Had,” and everyone goes in hard: Drake first (“last name ever, first name greatest”), then ‘Ye (“Super bad chicks giving me McLovin”), and a seriously rejuvenated Wayne (“pistol on my side, you don’t want to hear that thing talk”), before Eminem finishes things up. How cool is it to hear that dude on one of these things? Of course, he sounds a little out of place talking about eating people's faces and stuff, but he also sounds totally great. Project Runway alum Chris March is suing Thierry Mugler for allegedly not paying him for work he did on Beyoncé's costumes for her current I AM tour. That sentence was a lot to take in: Chris March, Beyoncé, Thierry Mugler, a lawsuit. And we had no idea Chris even worked on costumes for Beyoncé — and her band and her backup dancers — until the suit surfaced. Reached by phone this afternoon, Chris explained he's worked with Thierry for almost seven years on various projects, including Cirque du Soleil costumes. Beyoncé hired Mugler to create her tour costumes in November, and Chris met with Mugler about the project in late December. In January he started work. Mugler designed the costumes but hired Chris to help him actually make them. Mugler's expertise lies primarily in design, but March's lies primarily in execution. "He isn’t used to having things made in the U.S., so he hired me to be the head of costume," March explained. "Thierry doesn’t have a theatrical background so I was hired to make sure the costumes were usable for stage purposes." For example, March had to figure out how to attach a harness to the costume Beyoncé wears when she flies through the air. He also had to make sure her costumes would keep her lovely lady lumps in place. "So many things need to be taken into consideration with her because she dances so" — he paused to find the right word — "wildly," he chuckled. "So she gets onstage and she’s like, 'I gotta move and I gotta dance.' And wow." He wasted no time molding those fabulous corsets perfectly to her figure. "One of the first things I did for [Beyoncé] was put her in a special corset and wrap her in aluminum foil and then wrap a warm plastic around her until it dries," he explained of the diva corset-production process. That plastic form helps the costume creators mold certain clothing articles to her body. "There’s one that’s a huge wire frame that’s covered in stretch mesh and trimmed in feathers. There’s one that’s molded apoxy that lights up like a motorcycle theme," Chris said of the various looks the plastic mold was used for. "It's a messy process." Since Beyoncé couldn't make every fitting, the team hired a body double to fill in for her. To ensure the pieces wouldn't budge when she shakes it, "We didn’t use a lot of boning or any like super-structured look," March explained. "We just make sure that things are short and lightweight so she doesn’t get hot and all encumbered and can’t dance." No one wants an encumbered Beyoncé. The costumes had to get to Edmonton, Canada, by March 26 for her first show. March completed the project, sent the sparkly divawear off to Canada, and submitted his last invoice to Mugler. March says Mugler had paid everything he submitted up until the final bill. "Of course things got crazy at the end going to Hartford, Connecticut, for rehearsals and everything, so we finished up and got it to Canada on time and turned in our invoices the next day and Thierry left for Paris without paying anybody." (Beyoncé paid Thierry, and he paid his team.) Chris continued, "There's just been a refusal to pay with no reason." Until the lawsuit is sorted out, Chris has his Beyoncé memories. "When she met me she goes ‘Oh my God, I'm such a big fan of yours,' " he said. Yes, Beyoncé watches Project Runway — just like us! "I was a little nervous to meet her and to find out she was a little nervous to meet me was really funny!" Currently March is working on a coffee-table book that showcases 25 years of his designs, in talks with a few parties about working on Broadway shows, and filming a pilot for a reality show about him and his workshop. March couldn't reveal much about the show in its early phases. "It's kind of like Ace of Cakes — they would follow me around doing all my projects," he said. "So things are really great. And I never would have had this opportunity without Project Runway." City Councilwoman Letitia James first proposed the idea a few weeks back, since the station is where Jackson filmed his "Bad" video in 1987. But the MTA has taken a pass—even though it recently sold off naming rights to another subway station to Barclays for $4 million. Jennifer 8. Lee of the Times asks the obvious question: So if his fans could raise $4 million to "sponsor" the station in honor of Michael Jackson, could they also secure naming rights? (Or even a fraction of that, since Hoyt-Schermerhorn is arguably a smaller and less visible station with only the A, C and G lines, so perhaps only $2 million.) Given his fan base and the power of online fund-raising for philanthropy and politics, this is not an outlandish idea. (If that is successful, then next up: the Prince Street stop could become "the station formerly known as Prince.") The MTA doesn't appear to be too impressed with the idea. ("I would defer on commenting on any hypotheticals," says an MTA spokesperson.) But given how desperate for cash the MTA has become, it might not be such a bad idea to open it up to the public. Sure, a few million teenagers would probably end up contributing a buck apiece to rename a station in Rick Astley's honor. But at least MTA wouldn't be forced to raise subway fares. And would anyone even notice if the "Astor" in Astor Square was changed to "Astley"? That said, this sneak preview of Monday night's Rourke-starring episode of Inside the Actors Studio is, in the immortal words of Will Ferrell, positively scrumtrillescent and reminds us how much we've been missing him during this dreadfully boring summer. In the clip, Rourke who, thankfully, still hasn't figured out why shirts have buttons regales James Lipton with a gut-buster of a story about his early days as a drug-dealing, gun-toting ditchdigger in Miami.

The Schwarzmans bought the place in 1996 for $2.3 million, which means they'll likely turn a reasonable profit, even with the sunken real-estate market out east. Of course, that doesn't really even matter, because this place was just giving the family a roof over their heads while they waited for their real second home to get finished: a 9.9-acre estate he's completely renovating in nearby Water Mill, which he bought in 2005 for $34 million. The trade paper has dubbed these man candies "himbos." For example, Karl Lagerfeld can't seem to shoot anything these days without sticking his Guy Friday, Baptiste Giabiconi, in the frame with his lady models. He most recently put him in an editorial he shot for September's Numero starring Lara Stone (pictured above). Karl shared his thoughts on the new age of the himbo with WWD. He argues it's not so much about the exploitation of men as a woman's innate need and desire to impress them at all times: “I think after the ugly skinny boys of Hedi [Slimane’s] days some ‘beauty’ was needed, but new beauty ... It’s very simple. They put the girls in a more lifestyle situation. Lonely girls can be a little sad in a fashion story. They dress not only for other girls, but also to please men. The popularity is sudden because there are a few new faces.” ![]() Saks and Dolce's new ads.Photo: Courtesy of Saks; Courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana. But back to the No. 1 (original?) himbo, Baptiste, Karl says he's like “a boy version of Gisele [Bündchen]: skinny, skinny but with an athletic body — good for clothes and great with no clothes.” Okay, we take it back — himbos are all about exploitation. Someone else aside from Caten should relate this trend to the economy, and it may as well be us: Perhaps the rise of the himbo is just a new sales tactic to spur spending. But little did the thief know, the powerful, recently reappointed Fed chair is a frugal dude, and at the time of his first confirmation, he had less than $5 million on the books, largely tied up in retirement plans. So when $900 went missing, the former Princeton professor immediately noticed. He carefully alerted the authorities — as he advises Americans to do in his professional capacity — and their rapid response helped bring down a much larger identity-theft ring. Also, he and his wife didn't end up losing any money. Let this be a lesson to you! Always carry clutches so small they can't hold your checkbooks and your I.D. It makes men more self-conscious, too. There’s no one in [Youth Knows No Pain] who shows an opposing view. It’s exhausting by the end.
No one in the film talks about beauty — only youth. Does youth automatically encompass beauty, or is beauty not as important? We had to separate the two. There’s no talk about breast implants or nose jobs because that’s about beauty. I was interested in the way we see mortality in the mirror. Nearly everyone you interviewed was white. For a few minutes yesterday evening, the audience in the spacious auditorium of Brookhaven’s Sachem East High School followed the suggestions of George Washington. As the crowd filed in to attend the sole health-care town hall in Long Island, sponsored by progressive Democrat Tim Bishop, Washington’s “Rules of Civility” were projected across a screen. "When another speaks be attentive yourself and disturb not the audience," read one slide. Once people took their seats, however, Washington was quickly forgotten. “Hands off health care!” shouted mostly white anti-reform activists, only to be drowned out by the chants of “Yes we can!” shouted by a group consisting primarily of union members and supporters. Once the initial shouting died down, the town supervisor began the evening by referencing the death of Ted Kennedy and asking for a moment of silence. “We don’t give a shit about Kennedy!” one man yelled, setting the tone for the two hours that would follow. If anything, protesters seemed determined to faithfully follow the larger script playing out across the country. Nazi references? Check. Scuffle on the floor that nearly erupted into a brawl? You betcha. One of the most dramatic moments came when a rosy-cheeked boy, who looked to be about 11, took the mike. "My 72-year-old grandmother recently had opened-heart [sic] surgery," he said. "Will the government pull the plug on my grandma?" The debate seemed to be as much about people’s addresses as their views on health care; any pro-reform speaker was accused of living outside the district. One woman, blabbering incoherently about the Constitution not declaring what kind of health care she will have, screamed into the microphone: “Where are my freedoms? Where are my choices? This is like Nazi Germany!” Bishop tried his best to answer every question no matter how absurd or repetitive. One of his best lines of the night, which actually gave some of the protesters pause, was: “Think about it, you’re protecting a system that is bankrupting small businesses and families!” Read more posts by Daniella Ponet Filed Under: death panels, health care, health carnage, tim bishop Source: Daily Intel | 28 Aug 2009 | 1:15 pm Video: The Eight Deaths of Michael Myers![]() Arriving in theaters today is Rob Zombie's Halloween II, the tenth entry in the unkillable horror series. A cream silk minidress is $1,795. Another pleated raspberry dress is $1,495. The label started staging presentations in February instead of runway shows, which it had been doing since 2003 (they'll stage another presentation at Milk Studios this Fashion Week). The label has probably had a difficult time selling, oh, $695 waist belts and $990 tunic tops in the recession. But they've finally decided to launch a lower-priced line for spring 2010. Prices will start at around £35, or about $57. When Temperley — whose aesthetic we can only describe as militaristic boho chic — did a Target collection in 2007, the line was also stocked at Selfridge's in London and sold out within days. So this is a smart move for the label. Their lower-priced pieces will probably fly off the racks across the pond again. Maybe it will help finance a return to the runway. We just hope the one thing that starts at $57 isn't, you know, a headband no one wants. This was when Frankel was the reporter and not the subject: "He was so real and sweet and he let me interview him for People.com. No one else would even acknowledge me, and believe me, I remember everyone who treated me like crap back then and treats me nicely now." (We believe her.) This time, Roddick recognized Bethenny as the TV star she is. "He has seen my show and he didn’t understand why I'm a non-married housewife. I told him the night was young." But she's no threat to Brooklyn Decker, Roddick's wife: "I showed him her GQ spread and told him that she was a real New York City housewife, 'cause they just bought a pad here. [Decker] is an avid Housewives fan so she briefed him and evidently told him that I'm the coolest Housewife. Phew — I didn't want to mess with a supermodel." So how did Frankel find Roddick this time around? In addition to techniques like waterboarding, recent reports reveal that some terrorism suspects were threatened with guns and power drills, while others were told that their mothers would be sexually assaulted in front of them and their children killed. Is that going too far? Do techniques like these conform to our ideals? To take another example, is it appropriate to let an eleven-foot minotaur tear terrorist suspects limb from limb in a labyrinth with "constantly shifting walls," then add their spines to its spine pile? And galleries seem to be more bullish, too. Earlier this week, it was reported that Larry Gagosian is planning to add to his chain of eight galleries with a location in Athens. But not every segment of the market is bouncing back. Experts say that areas that became over-inflated in recent years due to "speculative bidding" are still losing value. The recent Duke grad, who was third to bottom of the ladder on the varsity gold team, made headlines first last summer when he sued the school for cutting him from the roster. The 198-page lawsuit accused the Duke coach and Giuliani's teammates of perpetrating "a bizarre Lord of the Flies scheme" to get him out of the school athletic facilities and to subsequently spoil his life plan of becoming a pro golfer. (Even more embarrassing than hiring a lawyer to get you on a college sports team is to have your mother call up and try to force your way on, which it later turned out also happened in this case.) Eventually, the case was dismissed in May. Then, to top it all off, he didn't qualify for the U.S. Open this June. Bummer! But finally, yesterday, Giuliani had a stroke of luck. He won a pro tournament in New Jersey! "This is a big-time first step," the 23-year-old said. "To win a championship like this for my first pro victory in my home area, it's just awesome. It's the culmination of a lot of work I've been doing on my game and hopefully, it's a step onto even greater things in the future." We think it would have been perfectly fair for him to have simply said: "Screw the haters, I told you I can actually play golf!" Source: Best Week Ever | 28 Aug 2009 | 10:30 am Play, ‘Skimpy’ Crowd at Vick’s First Game Could Have Been Worse![]() Michael Vick, the football player even people who don’t care about sports can enjoy hating, made his debut last night with the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a meaningless preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and, as such, there weren’t many boos or cheers. Preseason football is rather lame. Even protesters, on both sides, couldn’t rankle themselves to action; the Philadelphia Inquirer called the smatterings gathered outside the stadium “skimpy.” And, as Deadspin pointed out, the Vick jerseys must be on back order. It’s worth noting that Vick wasn’t especially good. He was fine, sure, completing four easy passes and looking fast, but not quite as fast as he was before he spent nearly two years in prison. But the whole Eagles offense looked out of sync when he came in, as if their polished system got nicked slightly off track with the new guy. It was as if the Eagles were doing the same thing anyone else watching the game was doing: Hey, look, there’s Michael Vick! The dog murderer! At wide receiver! At running back! Vick clearly has some skills left, but transitioning him into an established enterprise is going to take a while. But again: That’s just boring football stuff. Mostly, the big massive Omigod Look at All the Angry PETA People shitstorm that everyone was expecting for Vick’s first game did not materialize. Whether you believe Vick deserves the extra scorn — and some of us think he’s served his time and should be allowed to return to his life and career, no matter how Not Sorry he seems — certainly observers were expecting more palpable outrage. Of course, it was an Eagles home game. They have one more preseason game in which Vick is expected to participate. It’s this Thursday. It’s in East Rutherford against the Jets. His approval rating still hovers around 30 percent, his head-to-head numbers against both Andrew Cuomo and Rudy Giuliani are pretty dreadful, and he just went through a week of awkward semi-apologies over his widely unappreciated claim that the media has it in for him because of his race. But he's keeping a glass-half-full kind of outlook! Paterson tells the Daily Beast that he's almost definitely going to run for reelection (or election, we guess) a nine out of ten on the scale of certainty. And he's hopeful that eventually people will begin to realize, "you know something, he used his resources with the best possible facility, and there is really no one who could’ve been governor ... who would've been much further away from the decisions that he made." It's possible! Even when a man approached Paterson at a state fair yesterday to criticize his recent comments about the racist media, Paterson took it in stride. “He said, ‘I was real disappointed what I read about you.’ He said, ‘I’ve always thought you were better than that,’ ” Mr. Paterson said, describing the encounter. “I said, ‘Thank you.’ ”
