Tata Elxsi creates advertising 'buzz' for Kellogg
Visual Computing Labs (VCL), a division of Tata Elxsi Ltd and one of the leading studios in the animation and visual communications industry has successfully delivered special effects in the television commercial (TVC) for Kellogg's' latest offering in the market-Honey Loops.
Directed by ace ad film director, Mintoo Singh of Classic Films, the TVC shows a cute little honeybee as the central animated character along with a little girl who takes the viewers through the process of manufacturing 'Honey Loops'. The entire commercial is set inside a beehive and is a take off on the hugely popular song from the movie Billu Barber, "Hit Hit Soniye", with a swarm of bees grooving to it in the background.
VCL designed one huge set with various levels, each to depict the separate stages of the manufacturing process. Once the set was designed and built, the choreography was shot by Mintoo and then reproduced in animation.
Speaking about the creation of the commercial, Mr Suhael Merchant, Animation Director Visual Computing Labs, Tata Elxsi Ltd said, "The use of animation in children's advertising is not uncommon. However, with it comes the challenge of creating something unique and interesting in order to build that connect and get them captivated to the ad and thereby the product."
"Our FX team worked out some super yummy looking honey which would be flowing from various levels. This was a crucial element of the film and one that we had to get right. Lighting wise everything was needed to look warm and honey like, as well as cute and clean," Merchant added.
"All in all our team really pulled off all the requirements beautifully- be it the set creation or the various textures and even the lighting and SFX of the honey. The choreography of the complicated dance steps was challenging. Mintoo Singh's input on every detail at every step of the commercial was crucial to achieving what we have in this beautiful commercial. He worked closely with us to make sure that we achieved exactly what the brief was and I am very happy to say that the end result outdid our expectations!"
VCL won the FICCI BAF award this year for executing outstanding visual effects in Himani Fast relief TVC in the category of "Best VFX in a commercial". VCL has also worked on projects for Sony Pictures Imageworks, Lions Gate, MGM and Digimation and Bollywood films including Rab ne Bana di Jodi, Jodhaa Akbar, Taare Zameen Par and 3D animation film Roadside Romeo.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Aug 2009 | 7:43 am "Phhir is based on a 'man' whose wife goes missing" - Adah Sharma
Adah Sharma can be termed as Bollywood's most enviable entrant. She has everything, beauty, talent, success, a happy home life, her mentors: her mother and
father, a boyfriend and her second Vikram Bhatt film Phhir. Adah, not so freakishly scary after all, proves to be warm, intelligent company and maybe slightly more quirky than you'd
imagine. Beautifully groomed, with her curly black hair pushed back and mischievous eyes, she comes over as a cross between a 'woman of conviction' and a
'woman of convention'. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel caught up with the 'getting busy'
unconventional beauty for a quick fired interview on her upcoming delayed film Phhir. Better late than never!
From playing a female lead in your debut film to a second fiddle in your next, would you tag Phhir as an easy way out film?
I play the female lead in Phhir just as I did in 1920. While 1920 was based on a 'woman' who gets possessed, Phhir is based on a
'man' whose wife goes missing. Just like in 1920, you won't see me for the first twelve or fifteen minutes of the film. Don't worry Once I'm on screen
you'll be seeing me till the end credits. You must watch the film before you take my word for it though (laughs). Choosing films as a carrier option for me
was like choosing a slightly complicated way. But if you enjoy what you are doing, easy and difficult are secondary. And of course, in films, there is no
easy way out.
What fascinates you towards cinema as a person and as an actress?
When you watch or participate in a film, you experience so many things that you don't or can't in real life. You get to be legally schizophrenic. Being so
many people, living so many lives and going through so many emotions, and some I didn't even know exist, enthralls me.
Do you think the delay in releasing Phhir might back fire just because Vikram Bhatt is more keen on releasing Three?
We released 1920 during the 'shraad' period which is said to be a terrible time to release a film. Apparently theatres stay empty. But just the
opposite of that happened. I really don't know what backfires. No matter how forward with the various aspects of filmmaking we go and how much ever immense
our knowledge grows, I think, no one in the industry will be able to answer questions about the fate of a film.

With the arrival of festive season, everyone is busy worshipping Lord Ganesha! If so much is happening everywhere, then, can Bollywood be far behind?
As all good things come to an end, Lord Ganesha too will have to say 'Alvida' to everyone in the form of 'visarjan' but a few days later from now. But in the case of Shreyas Talpade, who is also the lead hero of Aage Se Right, it seemed that he preferred to do the 'visarjan' a bit early in the day. That explains the reason as to why he has decided to do aâ¦hold your breathâ¦'Gun Visarjan' today afternoon! You heard it right; aapla mulga Shreyas will submerge his gun at Juhu Beach. Since gun is a symbol of all evil things, Shreyas will prayed to Ganpati Bappa and give his gun to ward of evil stuff from the city. Atta' boy, Shreyas!
For starters, Aage Se Right is a story of a cop who has lost his gun and what follows after that is a series of adventures and the weird mishaps amidst which he is set to find the gun. You can check out Shreyas Talpade's antics on Sept 4, when the film releases.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Aug 2009 | 6:15 am Rourke not in sequel to The Wrestler
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 26 Aug 2009 | 5:12 am "Ranbir-Konkona is a pair that no one would imagine" - Ayan Mukerji
Ayan Mukerji's film has been flashed in the first blurbs as the story of a younger handsome man and an older not-so-good-looking woman. Ayan is appalled. And not only because his leading lady Konkona has not taken kindly to this description at all.
"I don't know where that came from. All I can tell you is that this marketing pitch didn't come from me or Karan. You think I'd dare to call my heroine who I think is awesome, not good-looking?," Ayan asks angrily. And then without waiting for a reply continues, "It came from a Facebook Wake Up Sid fan club started on the website. Someone just saw Ranbir and Konkona together and decided to draw their own conclusions on their physicality. To me, Konkona is at the moment the most gorgeous woman I've met. In fact my last shot was with her, and I just couldn't stop gawking."
So is Wake Up Sid about an older woman in love with a younger man? Ayan hems and haws and then relents. "Yes, Konkona's character Aisha is a few years older than the guy. But it's not Summer Of 42, please! Nor is the age-difference concealed here as it was between Ranbir and Bipasha in Bachna Ae Haseeno. What happened was we wrote in the age difference because I wanted only these two to be in my film. When I saw Ranbir in Saawariya, I knew this was my Sid. He was young energetic and hungry to seize life. He was like me. You've to admit Ranbir and Konkona together are a pair that no one would imagine. I liked that challenge. And I also saw Konkona was around in the industry longer than Ranbir. So, I conveniently turned the character into a slightly older woman."
Clever, you tell Ayan. So doesn't he plan to work with his fabulous cousin Kajol? Sighs Ayan, "The thought didn't strike me for my first film. I wrote Wake Up, Sid as this young new-age Dil Chahta Hai. It's about today's youngsters. Kajol? Yeah. Maybe in my next filmâ¦if I'm allowed to make another film."
At the moment Ayan is worried about how the audience would take up to the title. "But it had to be Wake Up, Sid. It's a wakeup call for this rather laidback hero who meets an unusual woman. It's a real film with no lip-sync songs. You think audiences in Patna would like it?"
On the night of completion Ayan got dead drunk. "I was very sad that it had ended. Now everyone will move away. It's a heartbreaking process. I don't know how Karan goes through it over and over again."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Aug 2009 | 4:50 am Sohail Khan plays Manoj Kumar from Upkaar in upcoming film Kissan
Click above for movie stills
It may not be official. But there is more in common between Manoj Kumar's 1967 paean to patriotism Upkaar and Sohail Khan's Kissan than the song 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' for which Sohail has officially taken the rights from Manoj Kumar.
The two films share a common theme as well, so much so that the basic plotting of the two films is almost identical.
Take a look. Upkaar is about a mother Radha (Kamini Kaushal) from an agricultural family in a village. She can only afford to send one son for education to the city. While Bharat (Manoj Kumar) grows up as an uneducated patriotic son of the soil, his brother (Prem Chopra) returns from the city burdened with corrupt idea of progressive living with no respect for the mother land.
Cut to Kissan where Kamini Kaushal's character is replaced by farmer- father Jackie Shroff who can afford to send only one son for education to the city. Prem Chopra from Upkaar transforms into the city-bred son Arbaaz Khan in Kissan while Sohail Khan is the son who stays back in the village to be a farmer with his father.
'Till' debt do us part.
How does Sohail feel playing Manoj Kumar? The young actor is quite flattered to have elements from Manoj Kumar's Upkaar coming into his film. Says Sohail, "Upkaar, Mother India, Deewaar...now Kissan. They're in the same mould. Emotional drama about a family torn by ideology. I'm being asked why I've chosen to produce a film that has a village and a farmer family at its background. It seems our filmmakers have forgotten that a majority of India still lives in the villages. I'll be proud of Kissan for as long as I'm a filmmaker."
Let's hope Manoj Kumar who took great offence to the way he was portrayed in Shah Rukh Khan's production Om Shanti Om will be pleased with this neo-Upkaar produced by SRK's arch-rival Salman's younger brother.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Aug 2009 | 4:44 am Big B not working with SRK in Happy New Year

Actress Renuka Shahane has debuted as a director and is all set with her first Marathi film titled Rita. This is the first time one will see Jackie Shroff in a Marathi flick, playing the role of a mentor. The movie is adapted from a Marathi novel, 'Rita Welingkar', which is written by Renuka's mother and eminent critic Shanta Gokhale.
Renuka is excited about her first release. She says, "I chose my mother's novel because it lends itself as a beautiful screenplay for a film. The characterizations were so well edged. And the essence of the main protagonist Rita works very well cinematically. Pallavi Joshi plays the central character and it is about her life span from the age of 8 to 40 and
I play the role of her best friend."
Renuka initially started writing for a Hindi movie screenplay. She says, "Initially, I started with a Hindi movie screenplay but something was missing and it wasn't fulfilling and living up to expectations. I decided to go back to my roots and experiment something in Marathi. That's when my mother's novel, which I had read in 1993, struck me and I decided to translate the novel into a film. I spoke to my mom and she was shocked at first. I then began writing my screenplay in May 2007 and finished it by August 2007. My mother read the screenplay and her approval gave me the impetus to go
ahead."
Didn't she think to cast her husband Ashutosh Rane for her directorial debut? She says, "The character required a 15 years age difference and needed to look old. No matter how much make up I would get on Ashutosh, he wouldn't live up to the character. Jackie Shroff suited the role aptly."
The Hum Aapke Hai Kaun actress can't stop raving about how Ashutosh played a perfect husband by sitting at home all this while. She adds, "He played a very good husband and a father while I was busy with shooting. He didn't take up any assignments. He also gave me various inputs with regards to the screenplay and direction of the film."
Renuka also plans to make a movie in Hindi and cast her husband. She says, "I have two scripts ready one in Hindi and the other in Marathi. The Hindi script has my husband playing the most important role."
The movie is produced by Pooja Shetty Deora's Walkwater Media and is due to release on September 4.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 8:49 am New soap brings capital's popular haunts to TVKarol Bagh, Delhi University, Bengali Market and India Gate - all these popular locations in the capital - will now be part of a new TV serial called '12/24, Karol Bagh', which is about conflict of values between parents and youngsters.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 25 Aug 2009 | 8:31 am Siddharth Anand's Ranbir-Priyanka starrer titled Anjaana Anjaani

Aamir Khan is the director's first choice for the protagonist's part. "It's the role of a man of the masses. I can only see Aamir in the role," says Piyush.
The Sikandar experience has made the director realize the importance of A-listers stars in the cast. "I now understand the star hierarchy. This is just what my next film has to say. Before bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots we need to understand that chasm."
Says the director, "In the cities you see this huge disparity between the way the various classes of people live. But move away from the city and go into the non-metropolitan and semi-rural areas...the disparity between how the upper crust and the rest lived is even more glaring. That's what Door is about."
Piyush is baffled by some of the reviews for Sikandar. "Some have even commented on how spick and span Madhavan playing an army man looks. Arrey, I come from an army family. My father Hiralal Jha retired as a Major in the army. I know how he lived and how much cleanliness and orderliness meant to him. His shoes were polished for an hour every morning and his uniform had to be creaseless."
Going by the critical response to his film, Piyush is unsure about what is required of him. "Should I make the film that critics want from me? Should I make what I think the audience would like? Or should I just do what comes naturally to me? I think I'll just go by my instincts."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 3:46 am
