It's piping hot, and as always, it's first on Bollywood Hungama.
L Subramanyan (Subu), the veteran IT journalist who had joined the legendary comic house Chandamama in 2007 after the publication's acquisition by Mumbai-based technology major Geodesic, has now stepped down as the company's CEO. During his stint with Chandamama, the company achieved several milestones including the magazine's robust entry in digital and mobile space.
Subu will now be looking at an entrepreneurial venture. "I am considering the digital and mobile space," Subu told Bollywood Hungama.
After this development, Prashant Mulekar, Executive Director - Geodesic will be taking care of the company's operations. "I will be taking over Subu's profile and will be involved in overall operations," said Mulekar, who has more than 15 years of experience in finance.
Vishwanath Reddi, Chairman of Chandamama shared, "Subu introudced Chandamama to various platforms including mobile and digital. His attempt to take Chandamama in digital ecosystem will help the successors to take the publication forward in the right direction. Prashant Mulekar has overtaken Subu's role as the editor and publisher of the magazine."
We tried contacting Geodesic CEO and MD Kiran Kulkarni, but he was unavailable at the timing of filing this story.
Prior joining Chandamama, Subu was with Jasubhai Digital Media, where he was the CEO and Editorial Director managing properties such as Digit, The CTO Forum, Skoar! and Industry 2.0. Subu was also the Chief Editor of Dataquest and the associated B2B titles of Cyber Media and has served as the founding CEO of IPF Online Limited.
Chandamama is also eyeing the big screen. Piyush Jha whose film, Sikandar, based on Kashmiri militancy has just opened to substantial critical acclaim is all set to start his next film.
Entitled Door (distant), Piyush's next project will take a deep penetrating look at the divide between the haves and the have-nots.
Aamir Khan is the director's first choice for the protagonist's part. "It's the role of a man of the masses. I can only see Aamir in the role," says Piyush.
The Sikandar experience has made the director realize the importance of A-listers stars in the cast. "I now understand the star hierarchy. This is just what my next film has to say. Before bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots we need to understand that chasm."
Says the director, "In the cities you see this huge disparity between the way the various classes of people live. But move away from the city and go into the non-metropolitan and semi-rural areas...the disparity between how the upper crust and the rest lived is even more glaring. That's what Door is about."
Piyush is baffled by some of the reviews for Sikandar. "Some have even commented on how spick and span Madhavan playing an army man looks. Arrey, I come from an army family. My father Hiralal Jha retired as a Major in the army. I know how he lived and how much cleanliness and orderliness meant to him. His shoes were polished for an hour every morning and his uniform had to be creaseless."
Going by the critical response to his film, Piyush is unsure about what is required of him. "Should I make the film that critics want from me? Should I make what I think the audience would like? Or should I just do what comes naturally to me? I think I'll just go by my instincts."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 3:46 am Heidi Montag flashes boobs at Miss Universe contestSinger and The Hills star Heidi Montag received lots of flak for her mediocre performance at the recent Miss Universe contest held on August 24. Ken Ghosh has finally zeroed in the title of his next film, starring Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D'Souza in the lead. Initially, the makers were keen on calling it YAHOO, but have finally okayed a new title. It's CHANCE PE DANCE.
"But when did we ever decide on YAHOO? Sure, we were toying with a lot of names, but hadn't okayed on any one particular title," Ken clarifies. The first look image of the film, with the new title obviously, will be released in a few weeks from now, while the first trailer of the film will be included in the prints of WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE?.
Isn't there too much of Shahid Kapoor these days? KAMINEY has just released, while the promotions of DIL BOLE HADIPPA have gathered momentum and CHANCE PE DANCE will follow next. "See, the three films have a different feel and they also look different. Even the roles that Shahid is enacting are diverse in each case. Plus, there will be a 2-month gap between DIL BOLE HADIPPA and CHANCE PE DANCE," Ken reasons.
Shahid and Genelia have been teamed for the first time in CHANCE PE DANCE. "They look great together. I've worked with Shahid-Amrita and Shahid-Kareena in the past and I can say with confidence that the Shahid-Genelia pairing is at par with those pairings," Ken states.
Meanwhile, Ken begins work on his next project after CHANCE PE DANCE. The film will be produced by Ramesh Taurani and star Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 1:22 am Extreme reactions on Kaminey
The opinions on KAMINEY are divided - either people have liked the film or hated it. But not many are aware that Vishal Bhardwaj, its creator, was well aware that the 40 + age-group wouldn't take to the film, much before its release. "We had test screenings in several cities, before the release. The reactions were pretty uniform, with the youth [18 to 30] loving the film and the middle-age segment [40 +] hating it. That's when I realized that the opinions would be in extremes," Vishal admits.
A lot of people feel that they failed to decipher the initial 20 minutes of the film. "That's true! I got the same feedback. The next time I would ensure that I simplify things," he states. Not many are aware that the start of the film was altered after the test screenings. The film began with a war in Africa and shifted to Shahid Kapoor running on the tracks. But the response to the war sequences was outright negative, so the editor suggested that Vishal change the start to Shahid running on the tracks.
Meanwhile, Vishal is all set to start work on his next film, this time with Hrithik Roshan in the principal lead. "This is the first time I am confirming the news. Yes, Hrithik and I are working together. The project will roll once Hrithik is through with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's GUZAARISH. In the meantime, I am wondering if I should make another film in the intervening period," Vishal divulges.
What about ISHQIYA? When is it releasing? "Oh, I've got tremendous feedback for the first promo of the film. In fact, people tell me ki ISHQIYA ka trailer aapki picture [KAMINEY] se behtar hain [chuckles]... Well, looking at the number of releases in the coming weeks, I haven't decided on a release date yet. We've already completed the film and are in the post-production stages right now," Vishal reveals.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 1:17 am In Pics: Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi - Times of India

As many as six films are slated for release this Friday. These include DADDY COOL, KISAAN, LOVE KHICHDI, QUICK GUN MURUGAN, TOSS and YEH MERA INDIA. I am not counting the English ones, which will also hit the marquee this Friday. Whew! Is this the Idd week? Or Diwali or Christmas? So why this mad rush to release films? And, most importantly, what are their survival chances, given the fact that so many films are clashing on the same day?
Frankly, do the producers have a choice? My personal viewpoint is that the business is bound to get divided, but the producers feel they would stand no chance once the biggies invade the screen again, from September 18 onwards [WANTED, DIL BOLE HADIPPA]. The idea is to release at a time when there aren't any biggies in the fray. At least the films would be assured of getting the right chain of theatres and also the right shows.
Agreed, the holy month of Ramzan has begun and so has Ganeshotsav and the business is bound to slide downwards, but let's not think negative. Last year, ROCK ON!!, A WEDNESDAY, 1920 and WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR had released during the holy month of Ramzan and had also worked at the box-office. So let's see if the above-named films hit the jackpot this Ramzan.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2009 | 1:00 am Extreme reactions on 'Kaminey' - Indian Express

Karan Johar clears air
Last couple of months have seen speculations galore around the male lead for Agneepath remake. While names like Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan have popped up and there are various permutations and combinations being thought of, filmmaker Karan Johar
comes out and clears the air. He goes on to record to state that no one has yet been finalized to play the part of
Vijay Dinanath Chauhan.
"I haven't given any statement whatsoever around the man who would eventually be playing the role of Vijay Dinanath
Chauhan that was made iconic by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. All I have said is that yes, we are going ahead with a remake
of Agneepath and that's about it", announces Karan Johar.
Whether it is Hrithik, Abhishek or someone else, Karan must be having a wish list though, isn't it? "Well, the wish
list is to get the screenplay right", laughs Karan, "For the moment nothing else is more important than that."
Even though the film is coming under the banner of Dharma Productions, Karan won't be coming behind the camera for
the film. "True, I would be stepping aside and the film would be directed by Karan Malhotra who has assisted me on
My Name Is Khan. That's the only
thing which has been finalized; rest everything that you hear is mere speculation. We would finalize the cast once
the script is locked. Currently, it is still in the process of being written."
Karan Malhotra is not really a novice when it comes to filmmaking. An erstwhile assistant director, he has also
worked with Ashutosh Gowariker (Jodhaa Akbar), Farah Khan (Main Hoon Naa), Farhan Akhtar
(Lakshya) and Raj Kumar Santoshi (Lajja, Pukar) amongst others.
Since it is close to two decades since the release of Agneepath (1990), would the remake have a different
milieu to it? "Certainly", comes a response from Karan, "We are adapting the film from the original but ours would
be a new age version that would fit in well with today's time. We really hope that we are able to do justice to the
original and make the remake exciting for today's generation."
Meanwhile, at last count there are as many as seven films from the house of Dharma Productions that are in different
stages of production. This includes My Name Is Khan, Wake Up Sid, Qurbaan, Koochie Koochie Hota Hai, remake of Stepmom, remake
of Agneepath and I Hate Love Stories. How is he managing it all?
"Believe me; it's not difficult at all. All of you have to do is follow a three point 'mantra' - 'Delegation',
'Outsourcing' and 'Trust'. Along with that, if you have the right vision and infrastructure in place, which we do
have in Dharma Productions, it isn't difficult to crack it all. That's the way you manage things and I have been
fortunate enough to have a team with which it has become possible to helm number of projects at the same time",
explains Karan.
Out of the seven films being made by Karan Johar, there are three of them which are very much in the pipeline.
"Wake Up Sid is all set to arrive on 2nd October. Qurbaan will come in late November. Other than that,

The hunt for Saif's missing woman is finally over. As it has turned out, she happens to be his childhood sweetheart whom he had to leave behind when his
family moved to a different city. He has now managed to trace her down and as luck would have it, she is a social activist today.
However, there has been a twist in the tale. Just when he was about to reveal his identity to her and make her remember about the times gone by, he came face
to face with Kareena Kapoor. And the rest, as they say, is now history. The ex-girlfriend has continued to remain an ex while Saif and Kareena are now a
couple.
A happy-sad love story indeed, isn't it? Well almost, since this is not the real life story of Saif and Kareena but the script of the latest advertisement -
Dil Titli - that has been unveiled over the weekend gone by. While the earlier part of the week saw a gradual built up for the advertisement that
didn't quite reveal if Saif's search was for indeed for real, the unveiling of the mystery woman has laid all doubts to rest.
The entire promotional campaign did manage to create some stir though. Fresh out of the super success of Love Aaj Kal, it was surprising to see Saif
sending out public notices through newspapers and other media forums announcing his search for a girl. With just a photograph in hands, he was shown to be
running from pillar to post in his quest for regaining his old love.
While it was almost clear that this was a promotional exercise in motion, it wasn't quite obvious if this was for an advertisement or a movie. In fact some
also felt that this could well have been the kick start of Qurbaan promotion since the film is getting readied for a November release.
However, as it turned out, all of this was actually a part of Dil Titli campaign where a 'titli' turned out to be a common factor between the two
hearts that were in love long-long ago. Still, with Kareena coming into picture, it didn't take much time for Saif to shift loyalties!
Laughs Saif who admits that he was initially quite apprehensive about the concept, "Well, honestly speaking, I was a little concerned at first. I was
wondering if this entire ad in the newspaper with me hunting for a missing girl could perhaps look unnecessarily sensational. However, once I saw the copy
before it went for print, I was reassured that we were on the right track."
This was not all as the real test was audiences accepting him forgetting his first love the moment Kareena enters his life.
"True, I was worried that it should not look shallow that a guy forgets his childhood love in a matter of just a second", says Saif who is currently out of
India on a vacation, "But then once the creative aspects of the ad were explained to me, I trusted them. Thankfully, it seems all has turned out well
eventually."
Well, he has done his part and now it's upon audiences to decide whether they found Saif's change in heart justifiable or not!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Aug 2009 | 6:39 am Miss Venezuela is Miss Universe 2009 !Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez has been named winner of the coveted Miss Universe title for 2009.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 24 Aug 2009 | 5:51 am 'Carnatic music is finding young listeners'Carnatic classical music, which was losing out to contemporary music in the southern states, is making a comeback, with a spurt in the number of young listeners over the last few years, says leading Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam.Source: Entertainment News | 24 Aug 2009 | 5:24 am Vidya Balan stayed back at Cambridge campus after shooting there for Paa
Vidya Balan proved to be more adventurous than her sedate image and serene personality suggest.
Recently, while shooting for Balki's Amitabh-Abhishek starrer Paa in Cambridge, Vidya simply disappeared. The crew returned to Mumbai without her. Laughs Vidya, "It's nothing so dramatic. Yes, I did stay back in Cambridge. I simply had to. I had no choice."
Shooting for Balki's Paa in Oxford and Cambridge proved to be too lovely an experience for the actress to leave behind.
After the whole unit left she decided to stay for an extra week.
Recounting the experience, Vidya says, "I just couldn't help it. Just being in Cambridge shooting was not enough. I felt a deep connect with the campus and the environment. I just wanted to walk around the campus with books in hand, so I'd look like a student."
Once the shooting was over Vidya decided to stay over. "Luckily I've a friend in Cambridge. I stayed with her and her husband. It was the most enriching experience of my life. Just the air and the feel of the place is so special."
Vidya now intends to buy herself a quiet escape route. "I can't afford a place in Cambridge. But I know of a place near Mumbai that offers the same climate and topography. But I am not revealing it."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Aug 2009 | 5:14 am "I've modelled Ajay Devgan's rock act on U2's Bono" - Vipul Shah
Ajay Devgan as a rockstar strumming away the heated strings on stage is a hard act to swallow.
Not for Vipul Shah who has cast Devgan as a rock-stadia musician in London Dreams. The gritty sweaty ambience, the riveting guitar licks, the angst- filled vocals and the screaming hysterical fans...Devgan goes through the rock motions in the film with élan.
Says Vipul, "So far we've only seen him in a sedate or comic image, never as someone who can cross the frontiers and do something outrageous."
Vipul hasn't quite converted Devgan in an outrageously punky rock star. "No, not quite the reckless renegade. I've modeled Ajay's rock act on Bono, the Irish lead singer from U2. Bono was never your quintessential rock star. He had a more sober and a less wild image. When Ajay gets on stage in London Dreams, he replicates the curbed tempered-down rock-star's image of U2. Yes, I modeled him on Bono."
Interestingly, Salman Khan who started calling himself a 'rock star' even before the term was coined has no particular image in London Dreams.
"He plays a more improvisational musician whereas Devgan plays a more professional rock musician," informs Vipul.
Vipul has already shot all the on-stage performances except one. "I wanted to see how the other stage performances look before shooting the last one. I was afraid they'd all look the same. But they've all come out differently. And Ajay looks like a rock star in the truest sense of the word."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Aug 2009 | 5:04 am 'Kaminey' takes Indian cinema beyond Tarantino: Shekhar KapurInternationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is quite impressed with Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminey" and says the film "catapults Indian cinema in modernity beyond (Quentin) Tarantino".Source: Entertainment News | 24 Aug 2009 | 4:30 am
