Sheena Shahabadi, the latest entrant to the tinsel world, is making a rather unconventional beginning in Bollywood. In her debut flick Teree Sang, she plays a 15 year old girl who gets pregnant by her 17 year old boyfriend (played by Ruslaan Mumtaz). This Satish Kaushik directed film comes with a message around teen pregnancy and has one of its major promotional pegs being sex education. As the film gets ready for release this Friday, Sheena talks to Joginder Tuteja about her love for movies, how she always had her mother (Sadhana Singh) standing behind her like a rock and whether she is open to all the criticism once the film hits the screens.
Since your mother has been an actress herself while your father has been a known producer for Bhojpuri films, movies would have come naturally to you, right?
I won't deny that. When I was just a 5 year old kid, I had made up my mind that I wanted to be an actress. In fact I started grooming myself when I was just 16 years old. Of course initially my parents were surprised that I was really serious about this profession but it didn't take them much time to understand my passion for doing films. My mother supported me whole heartedly though my dad gave an okay-dokay reaction (laughs). He was like 'Theek hai, kar lo, jaisa tumhe theek lage'. Thankfully there was no real resistance per se from any one and I joined an acting course as well to understand the nuances of acting.
Was there any run time grooming that happened for you during the shooting of the film?
Yes, my mother used to be there for all the support. If I wasn't doing any of my scenes right then she would guide me on how I could better them. Even if I did something really good, she won't go gaga over me and exclaim that it was fantastic, superb or something. She would quietly say that I did it well and I should now concentrate on my next scene. I was happy with all the criticism and appreciation coming my way. It's fine if the person in front of me is honest and blunt.
Though at time criticism does rattle an individual, isn't it?
[Says after a pause] Well, yes when you know that it is unfair or has been conveyed in a poor taste. For example I remember this instance when I put on slight weight during the shooting of Teree Sang. I don't want to take any names but there was this individual who commented on my weight and it wasn't a pleasant conversation. Initially it did hit me badly but then my mom advised me that I should instead take this as a challenge. She told me that 'chalo, ab aisa usne kaha hai to patla hoke dikhayo'! I worked on myself and soon I was back in my best shape!

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 6 Aug 2009 | 5:24 am "I will not do a bad action film to change my image" - Tusshar Kapoor
He is someone who can very rightly be 'credited' for injecting Bollywood with the fool-proof virus called 'Numerology'. We are indeed talking about Tusshar Kapoor, the illustrious son of the eternal 'Jumping Jack' Jeetendra and brother of the TV Czarina Ekta Kapoor. Even though Tusshar did not have a dream run at the B-O's windows, critics find it really tough to pull him down, thanks to his sincerity which comes across in all his performances.
After having enthralled the audiences with his 'muted laugh-a-thon' act in the smash hit Golmaal Returns, Tusshar is back with yet another cracker of a film called Life Partner, in which he is paired opposite Bolly land's latest 'blue eyed girl' Prachi Desai. If the promos of Life Partner are anything to go by, then, Tusshar is surely sitting on a goldmine with this film.
Bollywood Hungama caught up with this man for an exclusive interview, whereby he talks about his Life Partner and much more. Read on and find out.
Tusshar, to start with, what's the film Life Partner all about?
It's a fun, light hearted take on friendship, marriage and relationships in general. It's about the ups and downs any common man faces due to the marriage. It's an out and out comedy and is not a serious film, which everybody in the audience will identify with. We all get into a relationship sometimes or the other, be it an arranged marriage or a love marriage or even live in relationships too! There are at least ten scenes in every aspect of the film which the audience will surely connect with, as it's a film for all age groups. All of us are sincerely hoping that it should hit the right cord (smiles).
You are working with the powerhouse of comedy Govinda and Bollywood's style icon Fardeen Khan for the first time. How was the experience?
While Govindaji is an energetic and fun person who keeps on coming up with his brilliant wisecracks and jokes which keeps the whole unit charged all the time, Fardeen is a little reserved and he keeps to himself most of the times. But he is a cheerful person to the core. If he has the mood, then, he will just be up there! Even though he does not have a shoot, he will still drop in to the sets and will stay back till the wee hours of the morning. He has got no issues in socializing and mingling with the crew. The fact remains that I just do not get along the so-called 'filmy' types. And Govindaji and Fardeen are just not that. They are so very casual, cheerful, and won't throw any starry tantrums even when they are or they are not shooting, and I respect both of them for this. They are very frank and are totally unpretentious.
What is the difference in Govinda's role as a lawyer in Ekta Kapoor's Kyonki Main Jhoot Nahi Bolta and now Life Partner?
Except for the fact that he plays a lawyer in both the films, his character is way off than each other. You have to see the film to know what I am talking about. All that I can say is that he is one of a kind of a character in the film, who stands out in every frame.
Do you feel that you have evolved as an actor since your Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai till Life Partner?
It's kind of tough for me to answer this question. All that I can say is that, in terms of opening up, my comfort level with the camera has been improved tremendously over the years.

Emraan Hashmi is not allowed to speak any more. But his SMS to his uncle and mentor Mahesh Bhatt says it all.
''My grandmother wants to take me to an astrologer to help me arm myself for the painful future that may lie ahead of me. According to her this is the end of me.''
Chilling, omnipotent and indicative of the threat that the young actor has created for himself and his family by openly speaking on the issue of religious profiling, Emraan is now letting his lawyer do all the talking.
On Tuesday Emraan's Pali Hill residence looked like a fortress with approximately 8-10 police vehicles parked below his building. The threats, apparently, are relentless.
The actor himself seemed petrified of speaking. ''If you want to talk to me on the flat issue I can't. My lawyer Majid Memon has advised that I let him comment on the issue from now on.''
Emraan's uncle Mahesh Bhatt couldn't be stopped from voicing his concerns over the issue. ''A politically motivated application has been made by a BJP activist. They allege that we (Emraan and Mahesh Bhatt) tried to fan communal passion. The cops are yet to register a charge against us. The security given to Emraan is precautionary. He's fine.''
When Emraan has come out with his declaration of being denied housing because of his religion, the film industry is surprisingly mum. Even those who have gone through such religious profiling have chosen to remain silent.
Mahesh Bhatt lashes out, ''It's the politics of silence. It's the fear of being attacked or criticized if they take a stand. Our industry says things which are acceptable not what is RIGHT. We need to step out of this 'I Me Myself' syndrome to live sanely.''
As for Shah Rukh Khan dodging the issue Mahesh Bhatt, ''His silence is truly eloquent. He says it all by not saying a word.''Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Aug 2009 | 4:55 am "Agyaat will open on more screens than even Sarkar Raj" - RGV
He can't seem to explain the phenomenon. But Ram Gopal Varma's Agyaat is being released on more screens than any of Varma's earlier films.
Says Ramu, "I don't understand it. Agyaat has no big stars. And yet it will open on more screens across the world than ever before, even more than Sarkar Raj which had the highest star-value among all my films."
Agyaat opens on 740 screens in Hindi and 220 screens in Telugu.
Ramu is like...wow! "Not bad for a non-star film, huh? I think there're two kinds of releases. The ones with the star-value and the ones where the genre is the star. I don't have to tell you which genre Agyaat falls into."
Would he attribute the large number of prints to the hype created by the publicity?

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 6 Aug 2009 | 4:37 am "Teree Sang can make us but not break us" - Anupam Kher
Ever since he began his career in Bollywood, Anupam Kher has been seen wearing different hats. With Teree Sang, he is being seen as a producer along with Satish Kaushik and together they have floated the banner 'Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment'. While in last few weeks, Anupam Kher has been seen as an actor in films like Morning Walk, Sankat City and Perfect Mismatch, this Friday he has a different role to play as his production Teree Sang hits the screens. He chats with Joginder Tuteja and talks about the inception of his production house, his confidence in the film in spite of massive competition surrounding his film and the time that Teree Sang has taken to reach the finishing line.
How did Teree Sang happen?
When Satish (Kaushik) narrated the film's script to me, I simply loved it. I there and then decided to make this film. Sounds simple, right? But that's true because it was actually as simple as that. Both Satish and I love each other. I used to stay in his house in Delhi before I became an actor. We share similar temperament. We decided to launch a production house and bring the film under its banner. Since both of us are quite earthy people, we thought of Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment as the name of our production house. Karol Bagh is truly the heart of India and Satish was particularly attached to it since he hails from that locality. It was all locked and sealed there and then and we soon began working on the film.
And how about the newcomers?
Mark my words; they would be the next heartthrobs of the nation.
The film was completed way back in 2007 so why did it take such a long time to arrive in theaters?
Who said that the film was completed in 2007? We began work in 2007 but since then there has been constant work happening on the film. Dubbing happened after a while; even an entirely new soundtrack was created with some portions of song picturisation also carried out. Work on post production also got through only a few days back.
The right release period is important too, isn't it?
Exactly. See, when you have newcomers, it is better to release the film carefully. One has to look at the best release timing for a film. Look at Khosla Ka Ghosla (which was ready for 3 years) or A Wednesday (which was completed a year before it's release) - they were very good films and worked because they took their own time in arriving at theaters with the right marketing and promotion behind them.
You come at a time when Love Aaj Kal has done bumper all over, Kaminey and Life Partner follow a week later while there is competition from Agyaat. Isn't it being a part of too heavy a rush?
Dekho, rush to hamesha hi rahega, you can't run away from that. We can't fight with something like this and neither should we even try that. Audiences are intelligent and they know what to see and what not to see. Otherwise why has 2009 seen so many biggies failing in 3 days flat? We have mounted the film well and given it the right promotion. The product is out in the market and now we have to see the results.
For your very first film as co-producers, wasn't it risky for you and Satish Kaushik to start with an offbeat subject of teenage pregnancy?
We wanted to take small steps and in any case neither Satish nor I are in any hurry. My career is going fine while Satish too has been directing films on a regular basis. Both of us have our own identity and a standing that we have built over the years. No one can take that away from us. In any case, Teree Sang is not the end of the world for us. The film can help make us but it will not break us!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Aug 2009 | 4:31 am Imtiaz Ali's next with Ashtavinayak
Imtiaz Ali's next film would be for the production house Shree Ashtavinayak (who lately ran out of Luck).
Says Imtiaz, "I was supposed to make a film with Ashtavinayak featuring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. Though it was a story written by me I didn't quite like it myself. So I dropped the idea. I've no idea what I'll be making for them. But I'm committed to do film for them next. Though we haven't discussed my price or anything."
Imtiaz has also been signed by Sajid Nadiadwala to direct a film.
Nowadays Imtiaz Ali spends the maximum time with people of a rather dubious social standing. His best friends at the moment are black-market ticket-sellers at movie theatres. They're the ones who are keeping him constantly informed about the box office progression of Love Aaj Kal.
In fact they are so familiar with Imtiaz's movements they track him down wherever he is to give him an update on his film's collections.
Says Imtiaz, "These black marketers are fearless and they mean business. They won't tell me anything but the absolute truth about the ticket sales. They are the best and most reliable source of information on how my film is doing. The trade analysts have their own take, and the buzz within the industry tells me nothing about how the film is actually doing. Because everyone has his own axe to grind so I've found this method of monitoring my collections."
Imtiaz knows all the black-marketers by their names. He knows where they live and they are free to visit him any time. The entire time since his film's release Imtiaz has been hobnobbing with his friends in the black zone.
On Monday he was spotted outside Mumbai's Chandan theatre at noon, inquiring anxiously about the shows for Monday. "They told me they had bought tickets to sell in 'black' rates for Monday evening and night and they had bought out the tickets for all the shows on Raksha Bandhan so I'm happy."
Imtiaz intends to celebrate with his friends from the black zone once the film is a certifiable hit.
"I'm not going by anyone's verdict except theirs" says Imtiaz resolutely. "You can call it a bit of chor bazaari in my life."
Imtiaz is upset by the guarded critical response to Deepika Padukone's performance in Love Aaj Kal. "I think she really, really got the point. She understood the character and its aspirations and she took her on internally. The best compliment for Deeepika came from Saif. After seeing the film he said Deepika gave a better performance than him."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Aug 2009 | 4:27 am Agyaat's secret ending revealed? - Sify

Now this one's a shocker! Apparently, the highly guarded suspense of RGV's Agyaat has leaked out.
Just a few days back, there was an article in one of the leading dailies about how RGV has kept the climax as a top-secret even from the lead stars of the film. There were also news reports about RGV shooting about 4-5 different climaxes. Well, now that the film is releasing this Friday (Aug 7th), since a couple of days, the trade circles are abuzz about the 'actual' climax of Agyaat. The word has it that the climax shows the lead pair of the film still trapped in the jungle, struggling to find their way out of there and also that ...hold your breath...Ram Gopal Varma would be making a sequel to Agyaat! With such a thanda climax, word's also that the film isn't as promising as it was expected to be.
While the fate of Agyaat stands uncertain at the BO, one thing is certain that, with the climax showing the lead pair still searching their way out of the jungle, the lead of Agyaat, i.e., Nitin and Priyanka Kothari can be rest 'assured' of their place in the sequel to Agyaat!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 5 Aug 2009 | 9:02 am Vishal changes Kaminey's climaxAs the release date of the much-awaited Kaminey draws closer, some or the other controversy related to the movie continues to surface. This one comes straight from Ripley's believe-it-or-nuts books of blatant copyright infringement.
Co-producers, business partners and fast friends Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah discovered to their amused horror that a new Bengali blockbuster Poran Jay Joliya Re (PJJR) has blatantly lifted the plot, scenes, even frames and costumes from Namastey London, without a by-your-leave from the producers.
Says Vipul, "I had no clue about this Bengali film until I read an interview with the film's producers blatantly admitting to the fact that there were similarities between their Bengali film and our Namastey London. I took into confidence a large number of friends and advisers in Kolkata who saw the film repeatedly and made a report on the similarities. The copied scenes ran into 5-6 pages in the report!"
Now Vipul flies to Kolkata on Sunday to initiate legal action. "Our legal advisers in Kolkata are confident that we've ample evidence of the Bengali film being copied from Namastey London. Even the Bengali hero (Dev) makes his entry wearing a kurta and kadha. You tell me why a film set in Bengal has its hero in a Punjabi get-up like Namastey London."
The film is strewn with what Vipul sees as blatant examples of plagiarism, enough to initiate legal action against the Bengali producers Sri Venkatesh Films early this week.
Says Vipul, "We don't want monetary compensation. The Bengali film is a big blockbuster. It has made huge amounts of money. A compensation of 5-10 lakhs means nothing to them. Other filmmakers would be encouraged to plagiarize knowing all they've to do is shell out a small compensation. We want to make an example of this case, so that regional filmmakers would think twice before lifting Hindi films. The penalty should be severe."
Ironically, Namastey London on release was said to be inspired by Manoj Kumar's Purab Aur Pachim. "That was not correct. There were no similarities between the two films except for the fact that in both cases, the innocent hero goes to England and confronts the cultural diasporas. Namastey London was inspired by a friend of Akshay's who underwent a similar experience."
More recently, Vipul Shah's new under-production film Action Replay was said to be inspired by The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Says Vipul, "That was a very irresponsible piece of reporting. It prompted Warner Brothers to issue a statement. But the fact is Action Replay is about going back in time whereas Benjamin Button is about age reversal. Let them find one similarity between my film and Benjamin Button and we're ready to face the consequences. I disapprove of plagiarism in any form or language. And by taking on the people who've copied my Namastey London in Bengali, I'm actually making sure none of us in Bollywood ever falls for the temptation of taking the easy way out to success by simply borrowing a successful film."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 5 Aug 2009 | 5:03 am Mumbai's 'Dhannos' get a champion in Hema MaliniOver three decades after her role of 'Basanti', the horse-carriage driver with her mare 'Dhanno' in the iconic film 'Sholay', actress Hema Malini has sought a ban on horse carts in this city, saying the horses that pull these carts lead a miserable life.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 5 Aug 2009 | 5:00 am T-Series to launch music on pen drives and micro-chips
After having made its impeccable mark in the world of music through audio cassettes and CDs, the music major T-Series is now all set to capture the world of technology by launching music in the form of pen drives and micro- chips, which will have pre-recorded music. It will be a combination of music plus storage space.
T-Series, which initiated the research and development wing to work on this almost a year ago, will definitely be the first music company to make music available on pen drives and micro chips. The said format will be launched with the Akshay-Lara starrer Blue, whose music is composed by A.R.Rahman.
Talking about this breakthrough development, Bhushan Kumar, the head honcho of T-Series, said, "We saw this coming since sometime now as music market is getting younger and younger. The trend in music is strongly favoring digital platforms. We had initiated research and development for this around a year and half back and now we are ready to take this step which is a very big one in music industry. We will be aggressively looking at mobile memory chips through which people can carry music on their phones and we will be looking at pen drives which people can carry with them and use in laptop as well as car audio systems. We are looking to launch this with Blue which is AR Rahman's only score this year. We see it as a revolutionary step which may change music consumption to a great degree."

It's not just Kajol, but also the very 'bubbli-cious' Genelia D'souza, who celebrates her birthday today. With 'Geenu' as her pet name, there's no looking back for this girl, who took her first steps in Bollywood with Tujhe Meri Kasam, in which she was paired opposite Riteish Deshmukh. With her dedication and hard work doing all the talking, one can rightly say that her success in Bollywood is a much deserved one. For the uninitiated, it's not just Bollywood that sings her praises, but also the South Indian film industry, of which she has become an integral part!
Besides acting, Genelia has to her credit of being a state level athlete and a national level football player. She is someone whose face does full justice to all those millions and zillions of products of which she is the Brand Ambassador! It won't be a surprise that one day while the human race might just forget the existence of sun and the moon, they will just not forget Genelia's heart-touching role of the innocent Aditi in the smash hit film Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Naa and her unforgettable dance steps to the semi-national anthem called 'Pappu Cant Dance Saala'. Genelia will soon be soon in the forthcoming comic caper Life Partner.
