He is someone who hails from a graphical background, is an ex-student of the 'Karan Johar school of film making', and has the
multi-starrer Kaal on his CV. He is none other than Soham Shah, the young director who brought together the likes of Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan, Sanjay Dutt, Danny Denzongpa and likes, in his latest offering Luck. Just a couple of days back, he was on Bollywood Hungama chatting with his fans and surfers on the famous Celebrity Chat section. But, for those who missed this 'LUCKy' session, we give you yet another chance to relive the chat through its excerpts:
Soham Shah: Hello everyone....I am Soham Shah, only on Bollywood Hungama!!!
Niraj: 1- Sohamji, you have made a wonderful film. Specially the 1st half was excellent and the opening train sequence was mind-blowing. The dialogue 'Tamang kharidta nahi, bhaade pe leta hai' is my personal favorite from Luck.
Soham Shah: Niraj, I am so glad that u appreciated the film. I hope that most of your family and friends also liked the film. I strongly recommend that all of you should watch the film.
Ravi: hi Soham, what are the responses that you are getting from the people and industry wala?
Soham Shah: Ravi, the responses are 80% positive and a small section of the ppl are little disappointed with the last 15 mts , but overall...it's very positive as ppl are loving the concept of the film.
Flint: the action scenes were shot splendidly, and the USP of the film was its power packed dialogue and its stylized packaging.
Soham Shah: flint, thanks a lot
Kevin: hi i have heard that u are also graphic designer r u?
Soham Shah: Kevin, that's true ...And I still design regularly.
Yajur: sir why in the climax.... none of the bullets from Ravi hit Imran...is not the strange...sir ek do bullets to lagni chaiye thi...do you think it was unrealistic?
Soham Shah: yajur, I totally agree with u . But honestly, I do not have any escape statements. I totally accept that particular flaw.
Yajur: sir why was Imran chosen......why not an action stars like Akshay Kumar?
Soham Shah: yajur, if u go to see the character of Imran, it's not designed to do action. The circumstances make him do all that he does. And he is supposed to be dependent on his LUCK. So, Luck needed to be more powerful than the hero.
Mahesh: Luck is one of the best ever action movie for Allan Amin, do you agree ?
Soham Shah: Mahesh, Yes I do agree
Sheik Khan: If in 'LUCK' you have a message to pass... what would that be?
Soham Shah: sheik, do not cross railway tracks
Mahesh: Is that true that the movie was shot in 70 days only?
Soham Shah: Mahesh, yes...that's true
angel1: which are the films you are looking forward to watch this year?
Soham Shah: angel1, Kites, 3 Idiots, LAK, etc....I look 4ward to every Friday's release
Parina: How come the Character of Ravi Kissen was firing the machine gun aimed high in the air but the bullets were hitting in Imran's feet?
Soham Shah: Parina, its all about LUCK....:-)

The sad irony of the situation in which Abhay's character in Socha Na Tha was, his parents are getting him married to the 'love of his life' - a catholic girl he has been wooing and has fought for vehemently. And while this is going on, he realizes that he is actually love with a sweet girl from his own caste who he had rejected initially. I had seen Socha Na Tha three months after its theatrical release, on a DVD. And now, I guess I have watched it at least 10 times. The movie still feels fresh to me, the way chemistry between the principal characters was built can only be the work of a man who has experienced love in all its might.
What I have been trying to build up to is the simple fact that Imtiaz Ali has shown us that love doesn't need to follow the straight jacket path of hero meets heroine, falls in love and finally wins her over. The best part about his efforts is that he never needed to rebel against the set procedures, he just had his simple way of telling the story and has driven home the point that love has its own unique method of getting its way, no rules can be defined for it, no amount of thinking can make us ready for the impact that it strikes us with. And it happens to us in the most unusual of circumstances.
Imtiaz has also shown us how we as individuals with all our 'intelligence' (pun intended) go about deciding about love and its implications and then fall flat on our faces with all our schemes coming to naught. He has been successful in his attempts to tell us that the mightiest emotion that a being has is love, no matter how much we experiment with the ideas of handling it.
This brings me to yet another point that Imtiaz has exposed us to. A couple, first time on the Indian silver screen, has decided to split and is happily singing a song about it. Incidentally, it's one of the most liked songs from his upcoming movie and is called 'Chor Bazari'. Right now (having not seen the movie), we would not know how the story moves after the song in the movie, but we know for certain that Imtiaz has made us aware of one more aspect of love and has given us a song to celebrate it. We don't need to break our hearts (or ourselves) when we part, it can be done with understanding and now, after the song, with panache!!!
Wishing you best in your next outing. We are grateful to you for bringing a nation that survives on Love, closer to it.
Thanks Imtiaz.

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 29 Jul 2009 | 7:14 am "Waltz With Bashir won't have just one show per week" - Sameer Ganapathy
The UTV Group, with interests in motion pictures, television, new media and broadcasting, is now bringing international films to Indian theatres. The company's international cinema TV channel, UTV World Movies, has forayed into the theatrical space with the acquisition of a slate of movies including Waltz with Bashir, for which it has acquired rights for the South Asia region (India and SAARC).
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sameer Ganapathy, Senior Vice President (Distribution), UTV Global Broadcasting, shares UTV's idea of the space and how it plans to bring audiences to the theatres.
When is Waltz with Bashir releasing?
In the middle August, in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Apart from Waltz, we will also releasing Song of Sparrows by Majid Majidi and a French action film called I Always Wanted to Be a Gangster. In fact, we'll be releasing around 12 movies between now and March 2010. These come from diverse genres.
We have tied up with the PVR chain of multiplexes and will begin with releases in the top three metros and expand to as many as 10 metros in the next six months.
What is the company's investment in this venture?
I would not want to comment on the exact investment, but we have, on an average, acquired the theatrical, satellite, home video and other ancillary rights for a period of 5 years and thus the amount of investment is significant.
Do you think Indian audience mature enough for international content?
See, there is a latent demand for such kind of cinema. Waltz is not another casual animation film, it's about the riots during the 1982 Lebanon war and the director's personal experiences of the same.
As far as the number of screens is concerned, that is still being worked out. As you are aware there is a huge backlog of films up for release due to the recent producer-multiplexes strike. But we are looking at an optimum scale through which we can do justice to our films. So it will not be a one show in a week...
What are the reasons behind the foray?
We launched UTV World Movies in February 2008, amassing together a library of the best of movies from across the globe. We identified the need for good cinema from all across the globe and as long as the story is compelling and format is good, language is not the barrier.
To cater to every vertical, we announced our home video venture with Shemaroo and have so far released eight home video titles, with plans to release about 35 more titles by the end of the financial year. The last leg (in the business) is the theatrical. We are confident that the kind of movies we have should do well on the big screen also.
What does UTV have in its kitty for the discerning audience?
We are looking at commercial successes from across all genres. Waltz stands out as it has won many awards including the Golden Globe in the best foreign language film category. We actually acquired the film last year much before the awards, as we saw potential in the content.
Besides that, we have a very recent library. A bulk of our movies are post-2003. There are movies in the action, thriller, mystery, drama and animation genres. In fact, 5-7 % of our library is in the animation genre. We buy from 40 countries outside of India including French, Russian, Greek, Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin movies.
Do you have any plans of monetizing these properties on the gaming platform?
We want to do justice to the existing verticals first. If the potential does exist, we will look at other verticals like gaming also. But currently we will restrict ourselves to theatrical, home video and television.
How are you going to scale up the operations?
There is going to be a very strong network push on the marketing initiative. There already are a lot of both above the line and below the line activation programs that are being created. There will also be on-air and print campaigns which will take off once the release dates are finalized.
What are your views on other players in the space like NDTV Lumiere?
Lumiere is already in the same space. But there is enough international content and as long as it helps to populate the space, it will only broaden and expand the base of world cinema in India and make it a viable venture for all involved.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Jul 2009 | 7:06 am "People will now use lines that Saif and I say in Love Aaj Kal" - Deepika Padukone

What is it about Deepika Padukone that makes one get obsessed about her? Of course she's beautiful and tall. But is there something else? Maybe it's a magical spell. We dunno. Would we have been better off not knowing she existed so she wouldn't be on our mind? Is it love? It better not be because Ranbir might just be reading this interview... Padukone is a heart-shaped beauty that sends men into fits of sputtering praise. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel speaks to the 21st century's pin up girl on her Kal In-Laws, her Aaj love Ranbir, her aaj kal idea about love, her being a love guru, Saif's love tips and much more.
Producers Aaj Kal
''I think both Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan have been extremely professional. I couldn't tell for a minute that they are first time producers. They have left no stone unturned. Right from approaching me for the film to the time that we are now ready to showcase our film to the world. Today's producers are more agile and are jack of all. They are young, think new and are far more experienced in the film industry than other independent producers.''
Imtiaz Kal
''Having worked with Imtiaz Ali, I can definitely tell that the success of his earlier film Jab We Met hasn't got into him. He hasn't even realised to date how big a film Love Aaj Kal has turned out to be. That's what makes him special. The fact that Imtiaz is here to make good cinema and not be affected by the success or the failure of the film. What makes it even more special is the fact that Imtiaz had signed me for this film before Om Shanti Om had released. That brings in you a lot of
confidence.''
Imtiaz Aaj
''I would call him a new age director. But he does have sensibilities as an Indian and what the Indian cinema is really about. He has a good balance of both.''
The film
''The film is what the title is. Love was the same twenty years back or today. It has never changed. For different people, it might be different things. What's good about this film is that every generation will relate to this film. Like I said, love is a universal language. Everyone experience it at some point in their life. That's the USP of the film. I'm sure people are going to use the same lines that Saif and I have used in Love Aaj Kal. It'll be a trendsetter.''
London Aaj
''It was a great experience shooting in London this time around. Whenever anyone says that we are shooting in London, I get really excited because you shoot for so many months out there and it instantly feels like it's your city. It has changed off late it seems. I guess the way we've shot the film that's why. But today's London is all about youth. All about new life. I'm shooting my next film in London titled Housefull with Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh.''
Saif Ali Khan Aaj
''He is one of the most talented actors our film industry has. He is also someone who has brought in a different kind of actor after Dil Chahta Hai. Apart from that, Dil Chahta Hai was the first of its kind of new cinema to venture out of the traditional commercial films being churned out. Saif Ali Khan has also improved his dancing skills (laughs) off late. There isn't any other change except that he has grown a beard and plays a sardar.''
Deepika's Love Aaj:
''I believe in being loved and be in love and be in a beautiful relationship. I've seen my parents in a lovely twenty five years of their marriage and happy together. That's what I've seen all my life. Both together always. I am like that and so is Ranbir. Nothing has changed between me and Ranbir. We've spent a lot of time together and in return we've known each other better. I am comfortable with Ranbir today.''
Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Jul 2009 | 7:05 am Censors 'mildly' chop Agyaat; gets a U/A certificate
Till yesterday evening, the team of Agyaat was worried if Censor board would come down heavily on the film. Other than the fact that the film is an adventure thriller (that's the way Ramu insists on calling the film rather than slotting it as a 'supernatural thriller' or a 'horror flick' or a 'slasher drama'), what further worried Agyaat team was the rundown that it had with the Censor board around the controversial number in Rann.
However, there was nothing untoward that happened once the film was shown to Censors as they happily passed it with just two minor cuts. Not just that, they also granted the film a U/A certificate, something that is a good reason to celebrate. Reason being that Ramu's earlier horror/thriller films like Raat, Bhoot, Kaun and Phoonk have all been handed over an 'A' certificate.
The two cuts which have been made though are from the song 'Shiv Shambhu'. Picturised on Priyanka Kothari, the song has a few shots featuring a 'chillam' with the leading lady getting into a 'dum maaro' act.
Says a source attached to the film, "Censors felt that depicting such shots from the film would go against their anti-smoking stance. As per them, the song would have been better off if these two shots were cut. We also complied and didn't complain much. Yes, we do feel though that it would have been better had the song remained as it is since it's a part of a film being shot within a film. But then, it's ok."
How about the gore factor? The film belonging to such genre is bound to be embellished with gory elements, isn't it? So how did Censors agree to that? "First and foremost let this be clarified that the film isn't gory by any means", the source adds, "Ramu has his own ways of invoking fear and showing gore belonging to Ramsays brand doesn't fit in well with his kind of storytelling."
Ramu has the final word here, "You don't always require horrible looking/distorted faces to get the message across. Sometimes, the challenge lies in the very fact that you have to scare audiences with just the right sound effects, background and camera effects. This is what you will get to see in Agyaat as well."
The film releases next Friday i.e. 7th July.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Jul 2009 | 6:41 am Police search Jackson doctor's home for the second time in a week - Daily News & Analysis

The first thing that catches your attention as you watch the first promo of Eros and Sujoy Ghosh's ALADIN is the look of the characters. While Ritesh Deshmukh [Aladin] and Jacqueline Fernandes [Jasmine] wear a contemporary look, Amitabh Bachchan [a genie called Genius] and Sanjay Dutt's [the bad guy called Ringmaster] appearances immediately transport you to a fairyland.
The second thing that catches your attention is the grand canvas and the mounting of the film. ALADIN is a visual extravaganza and the first promo gives you a clear idea of what to expect.
The third thing that catches your attention is the visual effects that have gone into this movie. Of course, what you get to see is just a tip of the iceberg, but if you visit the Eye Qube Studios, which has been instrumental in giving the film international-level effects, you'd know that ALADIN should push the envelope and break barriers.
ALADIN is slated for a Diwali release and you've come to expect larger-than-life movies to set the screens afire in the festive week. Let's hope that ALADIN lives up to those monumental and humungous expectations that the promo rightfully raises.

On his birthday today, Sanjay Dutt feels very charitable towards those who have apparently not been kind to him.
Shrugging off stories of Imran Khan undercutting his role in Luck, Sanjay says, ''Imran is like a little child. He was very respectful through the two films we've done together. He's a good actor. I wish him luck and I want him to grow into an actor as big as his uncle (Aamir). Imran is too young to create problems for me.''
Sanjay says he did Luck for a lark. ''I did it just to help Soham Shah. I really didn't have the time or date. I told him to just cast me in a small role which would finish quickly. In fact the role shaped up bigger than planned. As long as it makes some money and no one loses any, I'm happy.''
Hours before his birthday Sanjay was chilled out. But he has regrets about not being able to be near Amar Singh on his birthday. ''I couldn't even visit Amar Singhji because by the time the visa materialized the surgery was over. My wife Maanyata was there. But I speak to him every day. Heâs out of the hospital now. He sounds better. I've seen his health deteriorate during the election campaigns. God gave me an opportunity to look after my elder brother during the elections. I'm glad I was around.''
But cheering up Sanjay says, ''I heard Bunty Walia is coming. Everything he does is announced on Facebook. So he has announced he's coming for my birthday.''Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Jul 2009 | 3:58 am Wishing Sanjay Dutt a very happy Birthday
Even though his native is a village near district Yamuna Nagar in Haryana, this kid was born and brought up in the glamour-oozing city of Mumbai. He is one of those very few 'star-sons' who just did not want to take things on a golden plate, instead, choose to earn their star-status. We are indeed talking about today's Birthday boy Sanjay Dutt, the humble son of the most illustrious parents: the late Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt.
Sanjay's debut film Rocky still remains as one of the most memorable films in Bollywood. What followed after that, were an array of films that not just consolidated his position in Bollywood, but also catapulted him into the top league in no time. Even though bad times befell on Sanjay's life in the form of drug abuse and possession of illegal arms, Sanjay stood terra firma against all this and came out clean to accept his mistake, an action that only a true son of the soil can do! It was this acceptance of guilt that transformed the man called Sanjay Dutt into a household name called 'Sanju baba', which later on took the form of the most affable 'Munnabhai', an unforgettable identity that the Indian cinema has ever produced!
In the recent times, besides the smash hit Munnabhai series, Sanju also gave some of his unforgettable performances in films like Daag The Fire, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, and Vaastav, which even earned him the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the prestigious Filmfare Awards.

Ananth Mahadevan directed Red Alert - The War Within is making people sit up and take notice worldwide. In the recently concluded Stuttgart Film
Festival 2009, the 'naxalite drama' received a standing ovation after it was screened as the closing film of the festival. Not just that, it was also hailed
by international critics and also presented with 'Director's Vision Awards'.
"Red Alert - The War Within is the kind of film that always had the
potential to qualify as world cinema", exclaims Ananth Mahadevan who still gets nostalgic while remembering the standing ovation that the film received in
the festival, "The way German critics as well as audiences have warmed up to the film, it makes me quite hopeful that it would break further grounds across
the globe."
As per film critic Peter Jesben (Senior Editor, Audio-Video-Foto BILD) who gave it a 5 star rating to the film, Red Alert - The War Within is a
'gripping, differentiated story of farm labourers trapped in a war between Naxals and cops'.
"His words have humbled me", says Ananth, "With the phenomenal response that the film has gained at Stuttgart Film Festival, we are now looking at taking the
film to more such prestigious film festivals at Toronto and London".
Starring Suneil Shetty in the central role of Narsimha, Red Alert - The War
Within is based on a real life story. Though the film is the account of one man, it asks a few questions that do people fight to protect a nation
that has forgotten them? Or, do people fight to survive and feed them? The film features Suneil Shetty as a farm labourer, who desperately needs money to
fund the education of his children. He finds himself in the midst of Naxalites where his mission becomes a mere subset of a greater cause that the militant's
pursue.
Talking further about the character of Narsimha, Ananth says that he could be a part of any movement in any part of the world.
"The film is set in India but then it could have been anywhere else in the world as well, whether it was Cuba or Ireland! Whenever a revolution has taken
place somewhere, there are men like Narsimha who get trapped", he says.
Buoyed by international acclaim that the film has earned for itself, Ananth Mahadevan now plans to bring Red Alert - The War Within in India.
"I most definitely want to premier the film in Goa film festival", he says, "However, if before that distributors decide to pick up the film and arrive at
the right theatrical release for the film, I would be quite okay with that too. Still, the film will certainly be shown in Goa film festival regardless of it
seeing an early global release."
"Since the film is traveling internationally and has been gathering world wide support, I hope that a studio like Miramax picks it up", Ananth adds in a
positive tone, "There are other studios also in my mind. Fox and Sony are spreading their wings in India and so far they have been backing block busters. It
would be good if they also wake up to films like 'Red Alert - The War Within' which are made on controlled budget but are high on content and have something
unique to tell. Hopefully they start showing interest in us."
On a parting note, Ananth adds, "Me as well as my producers (TP Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal) understand that from Red Alert - The War Within, we are not aiming at making pot loads of money.
What we want is making a reputation for Indian cinema and tell the world that even we can explore subjects like these."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 28 Jul 2009 | 7:08 am Why was Shilpa's boyfriend missing from spa opening?Considering Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her beau Raj Kundra are supposed to be business partners, it was strange not to see him at the opening of their first spa.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 28 Jul 2009 | 7:00 am SRK donates for Malaysian sports!Shah Rukh Khan who received the honorary title Datuk from the Malaysian government last year, donated RM50,000 to National Athletes Welfare Foundation of Malaysia.Source: Hindustan Times News Feeds 'Cinema' | 28 Jul 2009 | 6:31 am Tamil star Vijay reveals his political dreamsLeading Tamil star Vijay says he has started a people's movement to use it as a platform to prepare himself to take a plunge in politics.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 28 Jul 2009 | 6:02 am Daniel Radcliffe ‘eyes director seat’Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe is reportedly considering a career swap and planning to get behind the camera once the filming of the Harry Potter series comes to an end.Source: Hindustan Times News Feeds 'Cinema' | 28 Jul 2009 | 5:41 am
