The Bollywood shine hasn't affected Arjun Rampal at all, not even after he has won and collected several awards for his overnight successful cult film Rock On. Today this six feet handsome man stands taller than ever as his career reaches yet another level - a level which only a few have managed to achieve in their decade long career of acting. At the moment though, he is having a laugh with his fellow co-stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani in London. We dialed his UK mobile to find out that he is to start his forty day shoot for Housefull out there, is reading a book 'Reluctant Fundamentalist' on a surprisingly sunny afternoon and is ready to party real hard in Central London whenever he gets spare time. Arjun the person is so clever, and privileged, and talkative and engaging and glossy-eyed and vaguely expensive looking, not in a designer sense but in a lucky-enough-to-have-inherited-exquisite-bone-structure sort of way, that he's precisely the kind of character you'd expect to see popping up in Hindi films. UK's Harrow Observer columnist talks to Rampal on his two big films: Housefull and Rajneeti, his co-actors:
Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpai and Ajay Devgan, his wife: Mehr, his love for London, his love for food and fashion and the infamous Kasab trial. Alive and kicking from London in this Bollywood Hungama exclusive.
United Kingdom:
UK is extremely special for me not because Rock On got the only five star rating from there and not because Om Shanti Om grossed more than a million pounds, No. London will always be special for me also because I shot my first home production I See U. I also remember it as a country and a city where I celebrated my first wedding anniversary.
Food and Fashion:
London has some of the world's best eateries and fashion. The ambience and the energy are pretty exciting. I love shopping in London and especially go to this store called Browns. It's got some great outfits. As far as food is concerned, I have cut down on the British Jacket Potatoes at the moment (laughs).
Clubs v/s Pubs:
I don't go to pubs in the UK but you'll definitely find me in some of the clubs out there. I am a clubbing kind of a guy. There are some great clubs there. I used to go to Ministry of Sound but now it's too slow paced. Cafe De Paris and a lot of other small clubs have taken over the city of London big time. I like going to clubs because the city has got some of the greatest music you'll ever hear in your lifetime.
Hectic schedules:
I'm on a mad outdoor schedule this time. But that's the way I like it. Housefull is an out and out mad comic caper. I'm looking forward for the forty day shoot in London. Then I'm back in Mumbai for the launch of my club on the 28th of August. Then back to the remaining shoot of Rajneeti.
Akshay Kumar:
We all are in a constant process of growing as an actor. Akshay Kumar is no different. He has been extremely successful in his career and I wish him even more success. I find that Akshay is far more comfortable in front of the camera than he was when I last saw him in Aankhen. He has proved his talent and has definitely come a long way. My all time favourite film of his is Hera Pheri.
Rock On to Rajneeti:
I go into characters like I play in Rajneeti because I like them and they are something different to do. Whatever has happened post Rock On has been wonderful but you need to move on and forget it. You've got to unlearn all the things that you've learnt with every film and go and do something new. Rajneeti has me in an intense character I've never played before. It's strong and powerful. There is some crazy stuff I've done in Rajneeti and let's see how people react to it. The idea really is to start pushing the envelope and we all want change. Audiences want the same too. I don't want to make the kind of mistakes I've made in the past but am glad that I did only because today I'm more confident.
Dream photo shoot with Mehr:
It's really flattering to know that a lot of people want to see me with my wife on the front cover of a magazine. It's been ages we've shot together. But I'm always insecure to shoot with my wife. Mehr is the only one who makes me feel insecure (laughs). It'll be great to do a nice cover story together. Mehr is great in front of the camera and it'll be an odd fun to have a shoot like that.
Mehr Jessia Rampal:
Mehr is a very casual person most of the time. She is one girl who doesn't take long to get ready at all. She will wear anything and will look good in it. She has got this strange classic and a simple vibe about her that makes you inspire and envy, sometimes (laughs). She doesn't get carried away that easily. She is the ultimate style statement.
Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai:
Ajay Devgan is a complete natural actor. He is a treat for any director. A classic actor. Manoj Bajpai is very theatrical in nature of his acting. He is a genuine gift for any producer director. They both are Indian Film Industry's best we will ever have. Both have given their best ever shot at Rajneeti. You can only be as good as what you are and they both have proved that every time they've faced the camera.
Kasab trial and Indian politics:
The beauty and the burden of a democracy is this: No idea prevails without the support of the majority. Moral issues are decided by the people and not by the majority of one. The whole of India knows about Kasab and his terror act and we as a majority also know what lies ahead of him. When such foreign bodies come and spread terror and create havoc in our country, it only unites the country. It brings all of us together. So when people come together, it is even fierce than terror. Congress today coming in power has shown the different side of India post 26/11. They have become stronger in their approach towards the betterment of our country, whether it's the economy, industry, infrastructure or terrorism. I think India has got a very good government in place right now and you can see and feel the change.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Jul 2009 | 2:12 pm Reynolds enjoyed nude scene with Bullock

Well, if at all there is anyone who can be called as the personification of controversy... better still... controversy's favorite child, then, needless to say that Ram Gopal Varma will win it hands down! Not the one new to problems and disagreements, Ramu is at in again, this time with the Censor Board asking him to re-edit the track 'Jai Shri Shambhu' from his forthcoming film Agyaat.
The Censor Board reasoned it out that in the said track, the film's lead heroine Priyanka Kothari, is seen puffing a chillum while she croons 'Dum Maaro, Yeh Hai Sahara'. The Board asked to re-edit the said song, but only for television as it depicts substance abuse.
On his part, Ramu, who is aghast with the turn of events, opined, ''People can take drugs and show in film, that's ok. There is so much discretion on part of censor board. However, as a law abiding citizen of the country, I'll go with whatever the law says.''

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 22 Jul 2009 | 12:14 pm Akshay Kumar economizes for Sajid Nadiadwala's Housefull
Since Akshay Kumar pays all his taxes diligently, it is safe and secure to state that his market price is Rs. 30 crores per movie. But he's also aware of the recession around him. Therefore when his wife and child flew in to London to join him earlier this week, Akshay insisted on paying for their air tickets.
Says Akshay, "Sajid is an old friend. And even if he wasn't, I know exactly how difficult it is for a producer to keep the budget in check. During all the years that I've been in the industry, I've observed what a thankless task it is for producers to meet up the demands of the project and the people involved with the project."
Adds a source, "Producer Sajid Nadiadwala insisted it was a very small amount and part of the crew's travel expenses. But Akshay insisted. He won't burden his producer with extra expenditure at all, though he will charge his market price."
Confirming this price, a producer says, "Akshay does charge Rs. 30 crores. No doubt about it. But beyond that there are no extra costs at all. Akshay pays for the expenses that occur during shooting."
In fact our 30-crore hero who has just delivered another success Kambakkht Ishq decided to economize for the same producer when they reunited for another film Housefull in London this month.
Instead of putting up at the posh St. James Hotel where Amitabh Bachchan and other A-listers from Bollywood stay when shooting in London, Akshay chose the posh but nevertheless far less expensive Hotel Cumberland, although the producer insisted Akshay to stay at the more expensive place.
Says Akshay, "No, I always prefer to stay with the rest of the unit. It always creates a feeling of unity among the crew. In fact my wife and son have just joined me in London. They're staying at Cumberland with me."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Jul 2009 | 12:07 pm Denise Richards lesbian act

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 22 Jul 2009 | 10:54 am "When and if I sell Dulha Mil Gaya, I will announce it" - Viveck Vaswani
Viveck Vaswani is, in his own words, 'pi$$ed off' with rumours making the round that he has sold his Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dulha Mil Gaya for Rs. 25 crores to a Dubai based businessman. As per the filmmaker, it is still some time to go before (and if at all) this happens and information being 'leaked' like this is figment of imagination of a 'mischievous' mind.
Talking from Poona, Viveck fumes, "I am 'really really really' annoyed after reading this unmitigated rubbish. It is plain ridiculous. Log kahin se bhi kuch bhi sun ke rumors bana dete hain (People just hear something stupid out of nowhere and start generating rumours). I am so very much pi$$ed off ever since I heard this. Dulha Mil Gaya being sold? That too for Rs. 25 crores? Hello, at least have the courtesy of check pointing with me before you write something!"
It was being reported that the film was picked up by this particular Dubai based businessman who was totally unrelated to the film industry. However, since he was a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan, he put down good money on table. Also, beginning with Dulha Mil Gaya, he wanted to establish himself in Bollywood.
"Who is this businessman? Whom are we talking about? Puhleeze, it's my humble request all over again - 'Please stop speculating about my film'. There have been enough of speculations already during last two years and I am in no mood, intention or leisure to entertain any such rumours and false talks. All of this has been nothing but a figment of imagination of some minds that are just on some mischief or other. I am busy with some hectic post production on the film and want to concentrate well on that task."
Considering the fact that this Mudassar Ajiz directed film stars Shah Rukh Khan along with Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan in principal roles, it sounded surprising that the 'news' around the film's supposed selling would come out in such a low key manner.
"Exactly my point", he continues, "When and if I sell my film, I will announce it in the right manner. There has to be a right time for that. And the right people! In any case, even the film's first poster is not yet so how could we be talking about the selling?''
Also starring Mohit Chadha, Tara Sharma and Johnny Lever in principal roles, Dulha Mil Gaya has music by Lalit Pandit and is aiming at a 18th September release.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Jul 2009 | 10:51 am Mischa Barton struggles with weighty issuesWashington (ANI): You and I star Mischa Barton has been struggling with a fluctuating weight and body image, it has been revealed. Saif Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal has been in news for all the right reasons. The film has a hot onscreen pair of Saif and Deepika, the music of the film is top of the charts and the promos of the film are definitely hinting that Imtiaz Ali has got a winner this time as well. However, the film has hit the troubled waters due to Saif's 'Sardar' look in the film.
Charan Singh Sapra, the President of Punjabi Cultural And Heritage Board has objected on Saif's beard look in the film, reasoning it that Sardars do not sport a trimmed beard (as carried by Saif Ali Khan in the film). Sapra has also sent a memorandum to Saif Ali Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Dinesh Vijan regarding the same. Not just that, he also added that if the said look was not corrected, then, they (members of the Punjabi Cultural And Heritage Board) will be writing to all the major Sikh organizations to protest and stall the release of the film all over the country.
The co-producer of the film Dinesh Vijan and director Imtiaz Ali refused to comment on the issue.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Jul 2009 | 5:10 pm Raima and Riya Sen feature together in Rituparno Ghosh's Noukadubi
In Bollywood, while one keeps on hearing about catfights between two heroines, but this one is an unheard of ever before. This is possibly the only sister jodi in Bollywood, Riya Sen and Raima Sen, both of whom will be seen sharing screen space together for the first time in Rituparno Ghosh's Noukadubi.
Apparently, Rituparno had approached Riya and Raima for the film at the same time and both of them even received the script together. They were offered two very diverse roles and both of them had no qualms playing the characters. If our sources are to be believed, then, Riya initially thought Raima's character had a lot more prominence and had much more scope and dimension to it as compared to hers. But being a thorough professional and a doting sister, Riya chose to go ahead with the role she was offered, as it was extremely challenging. What's interesting about the entire episode is that both the actresses are playing roles very contrary to their public image. Our well placed sources revealed that while Riya Sen will be seen in a complete de-glam avatar, Raima will be playing a sophisticated woman.
Speaking about her experience of working with Riya, Raima said, "It was nice to watch her do such a complex character. She was so easy and comfortable on the sets and with the director. Everyone pampered her silly! This is the first time I've played such a mature character in Rituda's film. I play the character of a learned and sophisticated woman who holds her own in any situation. It's quite a contrast from Riya's character who plays a naïve village belle."
Riya stated, "Raima pampered me silly on the sets. Right from organizing the best make up vans and acquainting me with the staff in Kolkata, she was always a phone call away and kept everything prepared for me! Sometimes I felt I was treated like a baby, it felt like my first film."

They say that 'Old habits die hard', which was true in the case of the bubbli-cious Genelia D'souza, who was shooting for a song titled 'Teri Meri Ye Zindagi' from her eagerly anticipated film Life Partner. One of our most reliable sources said, "While Genelia was shooting for the said song, she requested the choreographers to include the signature step of 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala'!" Our source also added, "Everyone constantly keeps telling Genelia how popular the song is and that she grooved so well in the video. So while shooting for this song, Genelia requested Bosco-Ceaser, the choreographers, to include the step. They were taken a back but understood that it was a sentimental thing and let Fardeen and her dance to the step."
The connection between Genelia's two films doesn't end just here. It is surprising to notice oodles of uncanny resemblances between Jaane Tu...and Life Partner. They have 'discovered' that while Jaane Tu...was released on July 4 last year, the makers of Life Partner started their promos on July 4 this year. While Jaane Tu... was about friends and their relationship in college, Life Partner is also about friends and deals with a more matured subject of marriage. If that wasn't enough, then read this. Both Jaane Tu... as well as Life Partner revolves around Genelia's love story.
When asked about the co-incidental similarities, a surprised Genelia exclaimed, "Oh my God! I was really surprised to notice the similarities. And I was telling the Life Partner team, that everyone will think that it was planned like this. I am very excited and looking forward for the release of Life Partner, it is almost one year and I have had no release. So I'm looking forward to all the pre-release excitement and promotion."
All in all, one simply hopes that Jaane Tu... rubs off its Box-Office magic on Life Partner too! Genelia, we are sure, would more than agree to this.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Jul 2009 | 12:47 pm Gangubai Hangal - the rising octave that transcended barriersA rebel who broke caste and gender barriers, a perfectionist and a singer par excellence - this is how Hindustani classical vocalist Gangubai Hangal will always be known to her numerous fans and fellow musicians.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 21 Jul 2009 | 12:02 pm "No one should blame me if my films are delayed" - Aishwarya Rai
From Singapore to Chalakudy... Aishwarya Rai Bachchan never had such a hectic schedule to keep up. On Monday, another schedule of Mani Ratnam's Raavan started in the distant hilly area of Kerala, just when Amar Singh, whom Aishwarya was attending to, had recovered.
Illnesses in the family and at her work place have put Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's choc-a-bloc schedule under further pressure.
First it was her father and father-in-law who underwent health problems. Now it's the Bachchans' family friend Amar Singh whose kidney transplant in Singapore has further challenged Aishwarya's schedules.
In fact, scheduling setbacks caused by unforeseen health problems seem to be hounding Aishwarya. Two of her films both starring her husband Abhishek have fallen back due to illnesses.
Mani Ratnam's Raavan has been pushed behind because of the director's heart scare. Consequently, a major chunk of Aishwarya's dates went to waste, though it did give her chance to go on a holiday for her marriage anniversary in April.
Then the proposed thriller Crooked which takes her across the world for shooting with her husband, got postponed from mid-2009 to the end of the year as the director Abhinay Deo's wife fell ill. Aishwarya willingly reshuffled the dates.
Says a close friend, "She can never be ruthlessly professional. If a project is in distress, she will accommodate and reschedule it, no matter what it takes. There're three delayed projects, none delayed because of Aishwarya. But nonetheless requiring her immediate attention. She has already made space for the next schedules of Raavan and Shankar's Tamil Robot with Rajnikanth which has also over-shot considerably and requires her additional dates."
Aishwarya's scheduling woes don't end there. Raavan is a bi-lingual in Tamil and Hindi which means it takes double her time.
Says the friend, "Abhishek is in only one version of Raavan. Aishwarya is in both Tamil and Hindi. And she's also speaking her own Tamil lines."
Hence, when the matter of the entire Bachchan family going for Amar Singh's surgery came up, it was gently suggested that Aishwarya minimize or cancel her participation.
Says the source, "But for Aishwarya a family commitment is paramount. Work can wait. This is professionally her most crowded and difficult period ever. But she is determined to finish all her projects on time."
"At least no one should blame me if any of my films are delayed,"Aishwarya laughed before leaving for Singapore. She now travels from Singapore to Chalakudy in Kerala for the next schedule of Mani's Raavan with no space to meet her loved ones in Mumbai.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Jul 2009 | 10:46 am Classical singer Gangubai Hangal deadHindustani music exponent Gangubai Hangal died in Karnataka's Hubli town today morning following cardiac and respiratory problems, family sources said.Source: Entertainment News | 21 Jul 2009 | 9:34 am
