"The scripting was such that Luck would not have been made in India" - Soham Shah
"Right now I am ready to bet whether Luck will do well or not. Kaal did not do well and was delayed unnecessarily. But I take all of this positively", says an optimist Soham Shah. Then he cracks up by saying, "I've been giving fitness tips to Imran ever since we met and I hope he starts working out now." Soham Shah has made what you could call a Hard-R action flick that recalls the violent action flicks made in the early eighties that avoids political correctness or anything of that nature. This film also happens to have one of the biggest star cast in the recent times coming from all age group. Yes, this is basically a big and loud popcorn flick but it is fun and it also has some of the scene-stealing performances by Imran Khan and Ravi Kishan. So after spending fifteen minutes talking to one of the newest finds in Bollywood direction, I found out that he came across as a laid back guy who really loves action movies. Call 'Luck' almost his love letter to those films that were unapologetic about what they were trying to be. With some rhyme, reason and regard for his co-actors Soham puts himself in the lucky spot with UK's Harrow Observer columnist Devansh Patel and talks about the film's pretext, text and subtext...all in this Bollywood Hungama exclusive.
Bets on Luck
"Let's hope that Luck proves to be luckier than Kaal. We've worked really hard on the film. Luck isn't a dark film. It's a proper commercial masala film. It's an engaging film too. Actually, while we were shooting in South Africa for Luck, there were a lot of casino's and I remember placing the bet on one of the roulette. I won and I hope the film does the same."
Unusual cast
"If you cast faces that are bigger than the film, the audiences seem to be more interested in them than the story. The roles written for various characters in Luck were of a mixed age group. Roles were written for old age people like Mithun and Danny. Shruti and Imran fitted the new school types. All the actors are very unpredictable. You don't know how Imran, Shruti, Danny and Mithun will come up with. The only actor you can predict in Luck is Sanjay Dutt."
Inspiration from the West
"At one point when I saw 13 Tzameti, I thought that the concept of the film was wonderful. The only thing common between 13 Tzameti and Luck is the gun sequence. Beyond that there is no similarity. The Condemned rumours are absolutely rubbish. There is no similarity whatsoever."
Sanju Baba
"We had written this character called 'Musa' for Luck. It was granted from day one that we had written this role for Sanjay Dutt because I wanted a guy who fitted the new school and the old school. Sanju was the only hope. He is back to his best."
Backup
"Whatever ups and downs come your way, you have to make your film. You have to try your best to get the best on board. Every actor has different issues. Somebody would not want to work on that film, somebody would not like their role, somebody would have money issues, etc. Reasons can be plentiful. You cast somebody by which your film is justified and is not affected by the wrong casting. There is always a back up ready."
Favourite films
"My favourite Imran Khan film has to be Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. For Mithun, my favourite film has to be Gulami. For Danny, my favourite film would be Agneepath and for Sanjay Dutt, Vaastav is my all time favourite."
'No' to lip sync songs
"Luck being an action thriller didn't require any lip sync songs. Suddenly in a middle of a fight sequence, you cannot have an actor singing a song. It can't happen for such genre of films. Luck stays away from lip sync songs. Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na can have them because it would look real there. Lip sync in Luck will be quite unreal."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 20 Jul 2009 | 2:01 pm Winslet stressed out by Oscar

There's a popular saying in the film land about the eternal superhero Rajinikanth that 'There's nothing that Rajni-can't do'! Well, if at all there is someone who can match up to the antics of the larger-than-life Rajinikanth, then it has to be the one and only 'Quickgun Murugan', the very character whose trade-marked 'Mind It' shot into superlative fame, right from the word go! The fame and craze of Quickgun Murugan grew so much that even SRK couldn't resist doing a take off on him in the smash-hit film Om Shanti Om.
For all those who religiously worship and follow Quickgun Murugan, this piece of news will surely shoot your spirits up in air. Fox Star Studios are now all set to produce a full-length film called Quickgun Murugan that will star the South-Indian hero Rajendra Prasad, while the rest of the cast are yet to be finalized. The film is about a superhero with the grit of Clint Eastwood and the glam of our very own South Indian superstars.
If that wasn't enough, then, wait till you read this. In a first of an experiment of its kind, the world of Punjabi Bhangra and South Indian Tamil beats would amalgamate to give the listeners a new funky sound especially created for Quickgun Murugan called Tamil Bhangra. And the man behind this 'fusion-confusion' is none other than the Bhangra sensation Mika, who has especially created this sound for this film. After having the whole world croon to his balle-balle beats, Mika will now be seen mouthing lines like 'Idli', 'Appam', and 'Sambar' mixed with the robust Bhangra sounds instead of regular Punjabi words!
When we contacted Mika he confirms, "Yes it is true that for the first time we are trying something this innovative. When we finished recording the song, we couldn't believe how funky it was sounding. It has turned out as a very catchy sound. And when it hits the radio and pubs it would become the new cool sound. Best part of the music video is that the south Indian cowboy would be grooving with me in the video. So even our dance is a mix of Bhangra and Tamil".
We just cannot hold on to our curiosity to see Quickgun Murugan on the silver screens any longer, Mind It!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 20 Jul 2009 | 12:54 pm Indians, Pakistanis to stage play on ties that bindAs their government leaders shake hands but fail to act, a group of artistes from India and Pakistan have joined hands to present a play highlighting the composite culture that binds them.Source: Entertainment News | 20 Jul 2009 | 12:44 pm "Even Taare Zameen Par took a slow opening" - Adhyayan Suman
Jashnn released over the Friday gone by and has surprisingly taken a slow start at the box office. Ironical as it may sound but this time around, director duo of Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala has seen good reviews coming its way. Still, audiences are yet to warm up in a big way for the film that stars Adhyayan Suman, Anjana Sukhani, Shahana Goswami and Humayun Saeed.
The good news though is that select segment of audiences that has watched the film has good things to say about this emotional tearjerker that has number of poignant scenes that result in moist eyes. No wonder, the film's lead Adhyayan Suman is (rightly) hopeful that the film would pick up with strong word of mouth.
"Such films do take time to find audiences and I have myself seen good trend emerging with every passing day", says Adhyayan who is ecstatic though that his performance has not just been noticed but widely appreciated by majority of audiences and critics. "Yes, Friday was slow but no one came out complaining. I have been informed by trade that Saturday and Sunday have seen better results. Even if the film continues to hold up similarly on the weekdays, something that I am quite positive, I am sure we will have a good second weekend."
In the times when the first weekend does all the talking, what makes him so confident about the prospects of Jashnn? One can count the number of films that would have probably gone on to become popular amongst the audience in spite of not-so-favorable box office opening.
"And the film that sits at the top of such list is Taare Zameen Par", Adhyayan is quick to respond, "Didn't it see such a revival in fortunes after such a below average opening? It went on from strength to strength and went on to be a blockbuster! Yes, we have a big difference here though that Taare Zameen Par had Aamir Khan while Jashnn has Adhyayan Suman. But then it is sweeter to see an underdog succeed, isn't it?"
He is unhappy though that a section of media has come down heavily on him. "Frankly, I am not even sure whether these so called 'learned critics' have even bothered to watch the film", says Adhyayan in an amused tone, "Some of them seem to be making comments that are not even related to the film which makes me doubt if they have actually just done a desk job of putting together a review? That's because as far as I know, those who saw the film did appreciate the good work that has gone into making the film."
Is criticism rattling him? "Not at all", Adhyayan negates the theory, "If that was the case then I would have walked out of the film line after Haal E Dil itself. Moreover, even in Raaz - The Mystery Continues, some said I was good and some said I was just average. I acknowledged the feedback and worked further on my performance."
"I am fine even if someone says I am bad in Jashnn. It's fine as long as someone can point out a scene and say that you were unconvincing at such and such scene. I will thank that person and work on myself. But if you make generic statements like Adhyayan was disappointing or he doesn't know the basics of acting or he was not right for a complex role like this, then hello, I can't take that. Give me feedback but make that objective enough", fumes Adhyayan.
Well, Adhyayan is surely fighting against the odds. But then fact is that a large section of media as well as audiences have given a Thumbs Up to his matured performance in Jashnn. Delivering much more than what he could have probably promised with Jashnn, it's just a matter of time before he is taken seriously as an actor.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 20 Jul 2009 | 12:40 pm Now, Sautan in Bhojpuri

This has got to be seen. Imtiaz Ali's third directorial venture Love Aaj Kal is already been talked about for various reasons including Kareena Kapoor's 'ghost appearance'.
But Kareena's ghost haunts not just Deepika Padukone's presence in the film. Saif's character in a bizarre so-far undisclosed way is also wedded to Kareena.
It now comes to light that in one segment of the film, Saif plays Rishi Kapoor who happens to be Kareena's uncle in real life. And when we say Saif 'plays' Rishi Kapoor, we mean Rishi Kapoor's character grows younger in the plot to become Saif.
This isn't the first time that two actors have played the same character. Smriti Mishra and Kirron Kher played two phases in the life of Shyam Benegal's Sardari Begum. But they were not connected the way Saif and Rishi are by Kareena.
Without giving away the plot a source discloses, "The same character is played by Saif in a flashback and then Rishi Kapoor in present times. Unfortunately, Chintuji has little screen time with his son's girlfriend Deepika. But he gets to bond for a major screen time with his niece Kareena's boyfriend and yes, they play the same character in two different time zones."
Without revealing much, let's just say Rishi's character plays the passionate lover-guy who believes love conquers all. "At the end we see him with his real-life love interest and soul-mate Neetu Singh who makes a one-shot appearance," says a source.
The Kapoors and the Khans couldn't have hoped for a better merger before Saif and Kareena's marriage.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 20 Jul 2009 | 10:18 am Slumdog star Dev Patel in a Hindi film?
