KI is an example of the ever-growing trend of Bollywood films embracing visual effects (vfx) with some incredible (invisible) visual effects by post-production house Prime Focus. Ask director Sabbir Khan about the film's success and he says, "I feel euphoric. Nearly 150 films release every year and yet only a handful can earn the tag of being a 'super hit'. So, yes, it makes me feel very special that I could do that, and that too with my first film." Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Merzin Tavaria, Creative Director of Prime Focus and VFX Supervisor of KI shares, "Actually, if we look at KI, there is not much vfx in the movie but more of design elements and the effects which are required in the narrative of the film. These vfx shots helped us to manage the production and also to save the time of international starts while shooting," In this exclusive case study by Bollywood Hungama, we bring you some of the exciting shots executed by Prime Focus, courtesy Merzin Tavaria, Sabbir Khan and the producer, Sajid Nadiadwala. Paul Schrader is on the verge of finalizing his script for Extreme City which will be shot in and around the slums of Dharavi. Back from a hush-hush meeting with the director, producer Anubhav Sinha says, "I can't deny there's tremendous interest in another Mumbai slum saga after Slumdog Millionaire. But our project was firmed in much before Danny's film released." After Danny Boyle's dark and passionate look at Mumbai in Slumdog Millionaire, it's American super-director Paul Schrader's turn to do a hardcore Mumbai film, this one for an Indian producer Anubhav Sinha. In what's arguably the biggest collaboration ever between Bollywood and Hollywood, American writer-director Paul Schrader sneaked into Mumbai in July and met up with producer-director Anubhav Sinha for a Mumbai-based underworld drama called Extreme City. Mumbai already much under global scrutiny after Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire is expected to get a further touristic boost with Schrader's Mumbai film with Sinha. Schrader's scriptural collaborations with Martin Scorcese like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull and his hugely influential directorial ventures like American Gigolo, Cat People, Mishima and Hardcore have made an impact on generations of films and filmmakers. Schrader's latest directorial venture Adam Resurrected featuring Jeff Goldbum and Wilem Defore is a worldwide critical and commercial success. Says Anubhav, "To have Schrader agree to make a film for me is a dream come true. Paul came down to India first in July. When I suggested he make a film for me he was surprised. Paul Schrader making a film for an Indian producer does sound strange, doesn't it? He didn't give an immediate answer. But at the Toronto Film Festival in October 2008 he finally agreed. He's writing and directing a drama-thriller tentatively titled Extreme City for me. We've otherwise been interacting for two years." Extreme City will be shot largely in Mumbai. "Paul has started work on the script. It'll be an English-language film. But the Indian characters will speak their natural language. The Mumbai underworld is familiar to Hindi film- goers but not to a global audience." Anubhav agrees interest in Mumbai has never been higher. "It started when Mira Nair announced Shantaram. Now Slumdog Millionaire has patented Mumbai across the world. Extreme City will talk about the mafia in detail. We've seen the Sicilian and Brazilian mafia in Hollywood. But not the Mumbai underworld." Paul Schrader in fact visited Dharavi with Anubhav's assistant during his last visit. "The film will have swarm of characters. It will star one leading Hollywood and one Bollywood male star," informs Anubhav. Anubhav is kicked beyond redemption. "I started my collaboration with Paul Schrader as a fan. In fact the paper on which he wrote the plot outline, I asked him to sign so I could keep as memento. We're now collaborators."Source: Indiafm.com News | 13 Jul 2009 | 12:43 pm "It had no body double, only sharks, who could rip your body into two" - Chitrashi
Chitrashi is one of the most envied youngster in Bollywood. Having played hockey with Shah Rukh Khan to sharing screen space with Sanjay Dutt, she is only two films old and yet confident, bold and raring to go. 'Go-getter' is how she is in real life. She is full of attitude which she uses in doing things right and not wrong. She doesn't stand tall but has a towering personality in the way she acts. When it comes to playing women who are cool, no one does it better than Chitrashi because she has specialized at playing women in a world of men who can keep up just fine. Her latest film Luck might just prove that she is the crush material. Not where men fall for her, but men who would literally fall on her feet begging for their lives. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent caught up with the smallest of the Bollywood actresses who is climbing the ladder of success at a lightning speed. Is she plain lucky? You find out.
What is the meaning of the word Chitrashi?
Actually my mother gave me this name. She is an artist (painter). So it means like an perceptive art, to see and admire the beauty of art and having the power of perceiving. That's what Chitrashi means. I hope you got the perceptive analysis of my name now (laughs).
Is it lucky?
What's unlucky about it? As a matter of fact, it's so unique. I've never met or heard anyone else by this name. So it always makes me stand out and not to forget, it got me lot of fame too. My name is lucky and so am I.
Then shall we say, Chak De Chitrashi or Lucky Chitrashi?
Well, I don't mind both. You can address me as any of the two or whatever you like the most. At the moment, people address me as lucky Chitrashi because of my film Luck. On the streets, people recognize me as Chak De Chitrashi. I've got two first names: Chak De and Lucky, how funny is that? (laughs).
What exactly did Soham tell you before you said 'Yes' for the role?
Almost everything. I was aware of every single detail of the script. But yes, these were his exact words, 'This film will be incomplete without you'. I think that's the best thing any director will tell his actors. It also doesn't mean that he is buttering me up for the role
he wants so desperately, but it shows his confidence and his conviction in me and my talent. He knows that I will not let him down and I have done exactly that. It's time for my audience's feedback. I also heard that even Ram Gopal Varma liked the way I walk in the theatrical promo.

It took a spirited 20-year old Shruti Hassan to get a 50-plus Mithun Chakraborty on top of a hurling train in Thailand for an intricate stunt sequence in Soham Shah's Luck.
And what's more, Soham Shah was also asked to get on top of that train by his cast Recalling those anxious days in Thailand, and earlier in South Africa where the previous part of the same train-top stunt was shot, Soham says, "Our fight director Allan Amin had taken every precaution. But still as the director, I had my heart in the mouth when I saw my entire cast from Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan to Ravi Kishan and Shruti Haasan getting on top of that hurling burning train."
The trickiest thing was to get Mithun Chakbraborty in the action mode. "He hadn't done stunts for decades. But when Shruti, whom we didn't want to put on the train-top and for whom we had got a body-double, insisted on doing her own stunt, Mithunda was right up there along with the rest of the cast."
Sanjay Dutt too was out of action for a while. Says Soham, "Not for a second did he hesitate in doing what I'd say are the most dangerous stunts filmed in a Hindi film."
Shruti who makes her debut in Luck went through death-defying stunts without batting an eyelid. "Hers is a very unusual 'macho' kind of debut, not feminine, delicate and romantic at all. She has proved herself to be quite a chip of the block," says Soham referring to Shruti's dad Kamal Haasan who made a career of jumping into the fire.
Shruti has also sung the title song in Luck. Says Soham, "The fact that Imran and Shruti have known one another from childhood certainly gave our unit that little edge of comfort."
"Looking back, I don't know how we managed to shoot that entire train-top sequence without any of us getting hurt. Luck was on our side, I guess."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 13 Jul 2009 | 12:34 pm 'Jackson had a string of gay lovers'Pop legend Michael Jackson had several gay lovers, claims author Ian Halperin in his new book "Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson".Source: Entertainment News | 13 Jul 2009 | 12:23 pm "Short Kut will satiate the taste buds of movie buffs" - Anil Kapoor
Short Kut - The Con Is On releases today after a minor hassle around the title copyright issues. All is well that ends well though as this Anil Kapoor production has now hit the screens. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the man at the hot seat, Anil Kapoor, and asks him about his new role as a producer and what made him for go for casting Arshad Warsi as a wannabe turned superstar in the film.
How is the new role of a film producer treating you?
The way my acting career has been over the years, I have always been in the capacity of an actor and very rarely looked at the production affairs. On the other hand, as a producer I have more participation in how a project is shaped and look after the entire scale on which the film has been set. When I come on the sets of a film where I am just an actor, I am a thorough professional while staying within my boundaries. I don't interfere in any other aspect of film making. However as a producer, I have the luxury to choose my director, actor, distributor etc. I make all the decisions that allows me to play multiple roles.
You started off with Gandhi My Father and have now moved on to Short Kut - The Con Is On. Was it a conscious decision to begin offbeat and then move into mainstream?
It all basically depends upon the material that I am getting. If I like a script which is really dramatic, I go for it. I look at it as whether the subject would make for a good film or a bad film. I don't look at it as a commercial v/s non-commercial affair. This was the case with Gandhi My Father as well where I fell in love with the story and the script. Feroz Khan (the director) has been a friend and I have always admired his work as a theatre director. This is what made me go for Gandhi My Father and frankly I didn't worry much around whether it would succeed at the box office or not.
What made you announce Short Kut - The Con Is On as your immediate next film?
Juts like in case of Gandhi My Father, in case of Short Kut - The Con Is On too it was the script that did all the talking. I loved the original Malayalam film and decided there and then that I had to make it. It is a story which is very mainstream and comes with huge entertainment potential. It will satiate the taste buds of movie buffs all over the world because such films cater to majority of segments of audiences. Moreover, I truly believed in the film's concept and was sure that a refined treatment would make it a hit amongst the masses.
Akshaye (Khanna) and Arshad (Warsi) return after years. Time for some more 'hulchul'?
Frankly speaking I hadn't seen Hulchul and had only caught the duo in trailers. They looked great together and I was comfortable having them on board since their roles are so opposite of each other in the film. Actually, both of them compliment each other; something you would realize once you see the film.
Time and again you have been heard appreciating your film's cast.
That's because it has indeed gone really well. In fact the best thing about Short Kut - The Con Is On is it's casting. I am very proud of the people I have roped in because Akshaye, Arshad and Amrita have been just bang on. All of them are so correct and I can't imagine anyone else playing these parts.
Apparently you were quite vocal about Arshad's performance after watching Lagey Raho Munnabhai.
That's right; I congratulated him soon after I saw the film.
What was it that went in favor of him being roped in as 'Raju' a.k.a. King Kumar in the film?
I just felt that I needed someone who had an image of basically someone who wasn't a quintessential hero-hero. I wanted to have someone who wants to be a hero, someone who has the potential of becoming a hero one day. Of course Arshad's trademark comic timing went in his favour too.
You just said that you didn't want someone who was a hero in true sense. Why?
That's plays Raju is someone who wants to be a hero! It's the character that we had to sell because there have been only few character actors in the past who have become heroes. There have been exceptions but quite far and few. This is why if we had cast someone who was a conventional hero material; it would have gone against the essence of our film. I wanted someone who could not look like a conventional hero; someone who is a little odd and still desperate.
Arshad is also heard as saying that he is the 'villain of the piece' in the film?
Arrey nahi, he is a lovable rogue in the film. Terming him as 'villain' will be too harsh a word (laughs)!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 13 Jul 2009 | 12:11 pm Jeremy Piven ogles at Hayden PanettiereAmerican actor Jeremy Piven, who recently recovered from mercury poisoning, was spotted ogling at Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.
