It looks like Suchita Bhatia who has leveled charges of plagiarism against the makers of New York is in trouble.
Yash Raj Films, the producers of New York, have decided to take legal action against Bhatia for alleging that the script which was made into New York was originally suggested to Yash Raj three years ago by her.
Confirming these developments, New York director Kabir Khan says, "This is really unfortunate. I wonder which cave this girl was living in so far to suddenly wake up five days after our film released to realize that New York is about three friends against a 9/11 backdrop."
Kabir sees this as nothing but opportunistic timing. "It's a great method of getting her 15 minutes of fame. Yes, we're planning to sue her and make an example of this sort of post-success harassment that filmmakers go through."
The director is very angry. "Why does one have to keep fighting to protect one's integrity? By suing this girl I hope to discourage such frivolous charges in the future."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 1 Jul 2009 | 2:15 pm MJ was not the father of my kids: Ex wife

Kareena Kapoor may be looking her glamorous best in those western gowns and hot bikinis in Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakkht Ishq but that doesn't mean she can't carry off traditional Indian wear.
For a special endorsement of a leading jewellery brand, Bebo would be seen in a completely Indian look. Also, this is the first time ever that Kareena is endorsing a jewellery brand and hence she wanted to make sure that she looks simply stunning.
Kareena would be endorsing two different brands of the same group - Gitanjali Jewels' Bridal Collection Jewellery and Multitasking Jewelry for Women.
The decision of choosing Kareena for this special range of jewellery was arrived upon after the makers carried a special survey in which majority people responded that they would like to see Kareena in a bridal get-up.
Kareena's dress for this campaign has been designed by ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

If you have a problem getting through to Bipasha Basu, it's not a network problem. It's her new phone, a swanky Blackberry gifted by her producer and costar Ajay Devgan this week as a wrap-up gift for his leading lady.
And though Bipasha has lost all her numbers and she can't identify any caller, she just can't get enough of her new phone. "I love it! I'm going totally crazy with it. Though I've no numbers on it and am trying to figure it out, I just can't get enough of it," says the actress who finished shooting for Ajay Devgan's comedy All The Best in Goa this week.
Devgan gifted the phone to Bipasha out of the blue (or shall we say, black?) on the last day of shooting for working round the clock including late nights and early mornings. In fact Bipasha kept off the phone to the extent of not even connecting with her boyfriend John Abraham who was limping around on crutches in Mumbai trying to promote his new film.
Apparently, Bipasha also agreed to do an additional role in All The Best without charging a single penny extra.
Devgan known to be a generous producer had heard Bipasha mention that she wanted a Blackberry. Says the actress, "Yeah, Ajay knew I wanted it. In fact it was he who got me interested in. It is actually a gift in appreciation for working long hours and changing at lightning speed between shots when we had loads of work to finish. Ajay is a fabulous producer and co-star."
Bipasha soon leaves for Hyderabad to shoot the songs for All The Best. On Saturday, she also watched her boyfriend's new film New York finally. "I'm so proud of him," she whispered.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Jul 2009 | 10:27 am Bollywood borrows southern spice for 'Kambakkht Ishq'The Hindi film industry is infamous for lifting Hollywood movies, but it has often been inspired by cinema content from southern India as well.Source: Entertainment News | 1 Jul 2009 | 10:08 am "New York's super-success has surprised me" - Kabir Khan
New York is emerging into a huge success and the man who is most surprised is director Kabir Khan himself. He admits that he was confident of the product and knew that it would click with the audiences. Still, he had never imagined that the film will strike a chord amongst the audiences in such a way that it would take a thunderous opening from North to South and East to West.
"I always believed that New York will be a word of mouth film which would open on a decent note and then show an increase in business with every passing day. When I was told by friends and people from industry that it had opened to a houseful response in the very first show at so many places across the country, even I was taken aback", says Kabir Khan who is obviously elated with the way his John Abraham-Katrina Kaif-Neil Nitin Mukesh- Irrfan Khan film is faring all over.
He is glad that the myth is finally broken around the commercial prospects of a film which deals with an 'issue'. "I am particularly glad that our audiences have matured enough to accept a subject like New York", he reflects, "Yes, it was set in a commercial mode but at the end of it all, we were dealing with a serious issue here. Films like these have been made in the past as well but there always has been a budget restriction for them. Filmmakers are told to make get their projects made on shoe string budgets."
In this aspect, there was no stopping from Yash Raj Films when it came to the budget of the film. "True and the result is there for all to see because a product that boasts of quality is now doing so well commercially as well. It's as simple as that; audiences get a hint of something good coming their way and they are more than happy to lap it up all", comments Kabir.
Rattling down the collections that have been pouring in from all over, Kabir Khan informs that in Middle East in particular the film has created a mini storm. "In a way the film has made a certain 'connection' with the audience there", tells Kabir, "It is just so huge there. In US and UK as well the film has been doing so well while in Australia, it has done even better than John's last success Dostana. As for India, I have been told that weekdays have held up well as well after a very good opening weekend. Fingers crossed."
He narrates an interesting incident that took place on Friday at Chandan, a popular single screen theatre in Mumbai, which is widely considered as a barometer for a film's success. "One of my ADs went to Chandan on Friday and he immediately put me on line from the theatre. Audiences were quite emotionally charged there and it was such a surreal feeling to hear them cheering for the film. I immediately rushed to the theatre and by that time tickets were already being sold for the next show in black for as much as Rs.300. Now that's a big amount for a single screen theatre. There was this young man who was selling tickets in black and happened to recognize me. He congratulated me on the film's success and told me to keep making such films so that he remains in business. Of course, I have to keep this guy in mind when I make my next film too", concludes Kabir as he hangs up to get on line for another call, presumably bringing in some more good news.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Jul 2009 | 10:05 am George Clooney denies being dead!

Even though he is the proverbial 'star-son', he has achieved whatever he has, on his own merit. Even though his debut film gave Bollywood its answer to Tom Cruise, he is yet to make it to the 'Numero Uno' slot, something that he makes no qualms about. He is none other than the suave and sexy Akshaye Khanna, whose sex appeal lies in his smile, a fact that will be 'justified' by million of fans worldwide.
After having garnered rave reviews and critical acclaim in his last film Gandhi My Father, this debonair man is back. This time with a comic caper called Short Kut - The Con Is On. Bollywood Hungama caught up with this actor for an exclusive interview. Excerpts of the same:
Akshaye, to start with, why such a long gap from Mere Baap Pehle Aap to now Short Kut - The Con Is On? Was it intentional to stay out of the media glare or did it just happen?
Basically, the film business is not about any one person's schedule. It's about lots of people coming together, which only means that it's not in your hands to control the number of releases that you have in your hands. It's not the case with just one actor, it happens with most of the actors.
To top it all, the recession factor has affected the film industry in a very bad way. As you know, there are so many films in the last 6-7 months have either been shut down or have been postponed. Even a couple of films of mine which were supposed to start at the beginning of this year, have been scrapped due to various reasons. I myself have not faced the camera for almost 6 months now!

How has the music of the film evolved? Which is your favorite track from the film and for what reasons?
I am a huge fan of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy ever since I 'discovered' their music in Dil Chahta Hai. Ever since, every track of theirs was a masterpiece for me, be it Salaam-E-Ishq, Kal Ho Na Ho, Lakshya. All of their albums were outstanding. And as far as the music of Short Kut is concerned, I don't think that any of their fans will be even remotely disappointed with it. They have really given us an exceptionally rich album. Like most of their albums, this album too, I feel will stay fresh for a long time.
And my favourite track in the film is the romantic 'Kal Nau Naje' that has been picturised on me and Amrita. It's a beautiful melody and I think that its one of the best songs that I have been fortunate to have in my career.
In real life, you have always been a 'mover and shaker'. But how much of a Short Kut's Shekhar are you?
Frankly speaking, I do not identify with any of my characters in any of my films.
What are the locations the film has been shot?
The film has been shot primarily in Mumbai and one stint in Thailand.
Any memorable incidents while shooting the film?
Whatever kind of film, be it comedy or action, it's a serious business, which means pure hard work and concentration. Which is why, the entire filmmaking experience becomes a memorable incident in itself.

Not many may be aware, but the elegant lady-in-white, Simi Garewal, had shot for Anil Kapoor's home production Short Kut- The Con Is On. Simi played herself in the film and was part of a sequence where she had Arshad Warsi as the special guest on her famous talk-show 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'. Arshad, who plays a struggling actor, ends up talking a whole lot of nonsense in the show thus making it a hilarious scene.
However, disappointing as it may sound, in the final edit, the scene was removed to keep the film's length under check. The running time of Short Kut- The Con Is On is 130 minutes, the ideal length of a crisp comedy, and the makers didn't feel like stretching it any longer.
If the scene had been retained, cine-goers would have got the opportunity to see Simi on the big screen after over two decades.
