He is someone who called himself as 'Bad' and 'Dangerous', and still was loved by one and all, the world over. We are indeed talking about the one and only 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson, the very name who invented the cult 'Moon Walking' dance step. Well, the entire world came to a standstill yesterday when this musical legend breathed his last. He suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away, thus bringing the musical world to a grinding halt!
Bollywood Hungama spoke to Bollywood's eminent music directors and choreographers for their reactions to MJ's death. This is what they had to say:
Sajid (of Sajid-Wajid duo): "It is a big loss for the music industry, and he was a legend of sorts, someone who never paid heed to the image or personality, that he carried and the way we remember Bob Marley, Michael Jackson also falls in the same league. Today is by far a very mournful day for the entire music industry."
A.R. Rahman: "I am shocked at the untimely passing away of Michael Jackson, one of
the greatest musicians of our times. MJ, for most of our generation was an icon who made uncompromising music. He pushed the milestone of Pop music to unbelievable levels through the 80s and 90s. I am yet to find an artist with that energy, perfection and vision. I met him personally after the Oscars in Los Angeles and we vibed very well. He said that he loved India and the Indian people. He said he heard good things about me and he was praising the chord progression of Jai Ho's chorus.
He was bursting with energy and told me that every dance move he did came from his soul and did a five second stunning example. It was like a lightning strike. He was concerned about developmental issues such as Global Warming and about wars and its damages to the human community. He asked me to compose a unity anthem on the likes of "We are the World" for him. I nodded in awe...!
He introduced me to his three lovely bright kids. The kids told him "I love you Dad". And he replied, "I love you more" as a proud father. I wished him well for his concerts and he said "God Bless you". After hearing the shocking news, I wished it was another rumor which would fade away soon. It took me time to believe that he is no more. I remember, my late sound engineer H. Sridhar had brought me a video of the premiere of 'Remember the Time' when I was recording 'Kadal Rojave' for my first movie Roja. Seeing it inspired all of us that afternoon.
Now, there is no Sridhar and no Jackson anymore. I hope all of us value people's existence more and respect them when they are alive. LIFE IS SHORT...! Artists and their art live for ever. Jai Ho, MJ! We love you for your music, regardless of all the controversies!"
Vishal Dadlani: "Goodbye, Michael Jackson. The one thing we never let you be was a human being. You went from a God to an alien to a demon. But if we remember you for anything but your music, the failing will be ours. Sorry for all the harassment, thank you for all the music."
Wajid (of Sajid-Wajid duo): "It's indeed very sad news, I was driving when I got this message from someone, I was so shocked that I actually stopped driving and started to think about the man since then. It's actually a very big loss to everyone, because all of us have grown up listening to his songs; he was a real example of a perfect singer and performer... a complete artist. I was in fact looking out for his new album that he was composing, but now everything has come to a stand still and I am at a complete loss for words."
Sukhwinder Singh: "I am totally shocked. Since the time I first heard this news, I felt a great sadness from somewhere deep within."
Jatin Pandit: "A major section of the music industry has been wiped out; he was in a class of his own. I was really fortunate enough to witness his performance when he came down to Bombay. He was a rare combination of performance and talent."
Saroj Khan: "It's a great loss to the world. He was not just a lovely dancer, but also a wonderful creator. I admired him very much. God bless his soul to rest in eternal peace."
Ganesh Hegde: "It's an extremely sad day for the whole industry. His death means a total end to the world of music and an era in itself. There's a lot of reason for the fact that I am here and am what I am today. One of the main reasons is none other than the King of Pop Michael Jackson! He is the one who showed the way to many people like me that rags can surely be transformed into riches.
I still remember the day when I had a chance to meet him just for a minute. And trust me, I must have told him 'Sir, I love you' at least 20 times in 10 seconds. He, very generously said that 'I like it'. That's the most important one minute of my life."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jun 2009 | 3:24 pm Emma Watson to quit Hollywood?

Carey Fitzgerald's London-based High Point Media Group today announced joining forces with one of India's best known motion picture companies, Mumbai-based Pritish Nandy Communication in the first deal of its kind. With High Point poised to position PNC's titles for the international market outside India, the partnership kicks off with the latest PNC film, Ek Tho Chance (Last Chance Mumbai) set in today's Mumbai.
Esteemed Indian director, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, whose last film and Directors' Fortnight selection at Cannes, Naseem, won international plaudits, was coaxed out of retirement after 13 years by Pritish Nandy to make the film, which takes a kaleidoscopic look at 24 hours in the Indian metropolis. Described as "the other side of Mumbai to Slumdog",
Last Chance Mumbai follows the mixed fortunes of varying characters who populate the city and who, from lowly thief to wealthy fashion hotshot, cover a wide spectrum of socio-economic background.
High Point Media Group has steadily gathered international standing and muscle since its foundation nearly 20 years ago, with offices now situated in London, Dublin and Sydney, and departments not simply in worldwide film sales, but also production and TV distribution. With a strong focus on distinctive films with international direction, the company has built up a significant portfolio of titles over the years, including works by such acclaimed directors as Alejandro Jodorowski, George A Romero, Lenny Abrahamson and Ken Russell, and has garnered an impressive wreath of awards, including nomination at the Oscars.
Speaking about the partnership with High Point, Pritish Nandy said, "We are delighted to join hands with Carey and take our films to a larger global audience than Indian films actually succeed in reaching; we believe High Point with its expertise and experience can help us enhance our international reach and grow the new idiom of Bollywood."
Carey Fitzgerald is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration, commenting, "India, right now, is a very exciting place for films". She went on to add, "Not just for his impeccable track record as a producer, but also his vision for the future of Indian cinema, we are thrilled to be working with a force as innovative and forward looking as Pritish Nandy."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Jun 2009 | 10:58 am Eat popcorn, forget logic: Akshay Kumar - Times of India

Last week at a special screening of Kabir Khan's New York, Katrina Kaif broke down after watching the film. "It was embarrassing. This has never happened to me before. I was deeply moved by the film. And I couldn't believe what my director Kabir Khan had achieved in my performance. I kept staring at myself. 'That's me!' I exclaimed at the end of the film."
This is the first time that Katrina has played a character who echoes her own personality. "So far all my characters have been pretty alien to me. Even the London girl in Chandigarh in Namastey London was not at all like me. But the girl in New York connects deeply with me. Or do I connect with her? It's symbiotic, I think," she says.
When he saw what synthesis of 'actor' and 'character' had been achieved she simply broke down.
Remembering that evening, Katrina says, "It was a very private screening. Only members of the cast, our director his wife and the producer were there. I've never been so impressed by any of my films. So far they've all been in the orbit of escapist entertainment. New York is my first realistic film. I'm proud of all my films. But this is new chapter in my career."
Katrina will be devoting the next two weeks solely to promoting the film. "So far our producers Yash Raj Films haven't allowed us to talk about New York. Even now I can't talk much about it without giving away the plot. But I'm very proud of what we've done."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Jun 2009 | 10:42 am Bangalore mourns 'our icon' Michael Jackson'I cannot believe this. Piracy has hit the soundtrack of Love Aaj Kal. The songs from this Pritam composed album are freely available on internet. If this wasn't bad enough, the composer is further hurt by the fact that the version available for download is not even the final mix.
"Actually I was surprised to see the songs all over the internet; more so because I was still in the process of mastering. It's one thing for the songs to have made it to the internet and even worse when they are the unfinished versions. I am not sure what would the listeners be making of the songs that they are currently hearing", says a visibly upset Pritam.
Coming together with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali two years after Jab We Met has been a high pressure job for him as well. "Yeah, that's a baggage that we would always have to carry", he sighs, "Jab We Met has been a set benchmark for the listeners and comparisons are bound to happen."
He goes on share a joke that he has been sharing with Imtiaz ever since he started working on the soundtrack of Love Aaj Kal. "We keep telling each other that every review of Love Aaj Kal will start with a standard line - 'After the super success of Jab We Met, Imtiaz, Pritam and Irshad Kamil (the lyricist) reunite with Love Aaj Kal. So does the soundtrack create a similar magic? Does it meet or exceed the expectations? etc. etc.' What we are nervous about it to get the answers to these questions. I hope it is yes, yes and yes!"
Well, the team of Love Aaj Kal will certainly have an answer once the album (most likely) hits the stands this weekend. If the response to 'Twist' is anything to go by, there are no reasons why the team of Love Aaj Kal would actually have much to worry about.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jun 2009 | 10:10 am Termination Salvaged - Rediff

Emraan Hashmi has shot for some of his portions in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai and is glad that he consented to do the film. Though he admits that initially he was skeptical about signing this Milan Luthria directed film, today he is extremely happy with his decision.
Why was he skeptical though? After all this would have been his first bona fide crime thriller? "This was the very reason due to which I had to think a multiple times before saying yes to the film", confesses Emraan, "When I look around, every underworld movie with crime as it's base wants to be a Satya or a Company. Such has been the influence of these Ram Gopal Varma films that they have set a benchmark for movies belonging to this genre. My first question to the makers was - Is Once Upon a Time in Mumbai going to follow the same line or would be aiming at breaking some new grounds?'"
Thankfully for Emraan, Milan and writer Rajat Arora (continuing to share a partnership since Taxi No. 9211 and Hat Trick) had conceived their film differently and were ready with their answers.
"I was assured that Once Upon a Time in Mumbai was not just different but also aimed at changing the preconceived notions about the way an underworld movie is presented", says a relieved Emraan, "This is something that I have also realised after shooting for bits of the film."
Still, with him coming together with Ajay Devgan in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, one can't help but bring in comparisons around similar 'jodi' that was seen in Company when Vivek Oberoi was pitted against Ajay.
"Exactly, this too was very much in mind", Emraan nods in agreement here, "Company is still fresh in everyone's memory and as I stated earlier, it has created a benchmark. So yes, with Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, this is the very benchmark we are trying to change. More than that, revealing anything about Ajay or my role would be still too early. So let's wait for a while before we can declare to the world that how different are the two films."
Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai has also been in news for the unconventional casting of Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai. Akshay did it, Salman did it, Saif did it and so did Ranbir. But the last person whom we ever expected to see in a Sikh man's get up was Rani Mukherjee. Yep, Rani will be seen in the get up of a Sardarji in her forthcoming YRF film Dil Bole Hadippa. Even though not much is known about this film as yet, the first image that comes to the mind on its mention is that of Rani in a Sardarji's attire along with Shahid Kapoor.
Now, Rani's look in the film has been revealed. The image shows Rani as a Sardarji, Wielding a stick in hand! If the rumors are to be believed, then, her look has been styled by none other than Mike Stringer, a very famous name in UK, who has worked on films like Dhoom 2, Gandhi My Father and Hollywood hits like Flick, Outpost, Hyperdrive etc.
For the uninitiated, Dil Bole Hadippa is Yash Raj Films' next release this year. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and stars Shahid Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Anupam Kher, Rakhi Sawant and the sultry babe Sherlyn Chopra. Rumor mills are going overdrive with the 'plot' that this film has Rani disguised as a man only to prove that women are in no way less than men.
