Sonam shoots for Harpers Bazaar in Abu Dhabi

Sonam kapoor, Atul Kasbekar She is someone who was destined to go places ever since her debut film Saawariyaa hit the silver screen. We are indeed talking about the one and only Sonam Kapoor, who, now, no longer needs to be called as 'Anil Kapoor's beti'. If the recent few months were anything to go by, Bollywood indeed has got its very own actress cum supermodel, the testimonials of the latter can be seen in the millions of magazine covers that she chose her to be the cover-girl and also a mega bucks deal with a cosmetic major! Talking about magazines, Sonam recently was at the dream city of Abu Dhabi, along with the super-ace fotog Atul Kasbekar (who also happens to be the suave CEO of 'Bling! Entertainment Solutions Pvt.Ltd'). For starters, Atul's Bling! Handles endorsement deals for a lot of well known celebrities. Both of them had gone there to shoot for the cover of a leading magazine called Harpers Bazaar. And no prize for guessing who the cover-girl was supposed to be! Atul Kasbekar was with Sonam at 'The Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi', and this property has been built over a period of 4 years using 20,000 workmen. Around US$ 3 billion were spent to prepare the property. A source very close to Bollywood Hungama said that "Harpers Bazaar has received a fabulous response after having Sonam on the cover. Atul has done a fantastic job and bought the best out of her. Sonam is looking absolutely gorgeous!" We just couldn't argue on that! What say, Atul?

Shahid and Natalie Portman voted sexiest vegans

Shahid Kapoor Being a vegan can have its advantages, just recently actor Shahid Kapur has been voted the Sexiest Vegetarian in Asia, in the poll conducted by PETA. The poll was conducted by PETA in their Asia Pacific portal and the battle for the top slot carried on for a month. The final results were announced on 10 June, 2009. Shahid shares this honour with Hollywood star Natalie Portman, who was awarded the sexiest vegetarian in the USA region. "It feels great to be voted the Sexiest Vegetarian in Asia. I have always supported the cause of being a vegetarian and it's nice to be felicitated for something so close to my heart. Being voted as sexy is a matter of perception but being vegetarian is a lifestyle change and something that comes from a sense of responsibility. This poll win also goes to break the myth that fitness cannot be achieved by eating vegetarian food," said Kapur.

"I'd give myself seven on ten" - Vaishali Desai

Vaishali Desai Now that Kal Kissne Dekha verdict is out and her big screen results are announced, this is what the new face of tinsel town, Vaishali Desai had to say days before her big release, "I have never seen any new comer who has ever been through the situation what Jackky and I are going through. All because of the strike. It's like you've given your exams but the results just keep on getting postpone. You are anxiously awaiting your results. I hope I come out with flying colours in my Kal Kissne Dekha subject. Its nerve wrecking and nail biting time now." But the way Vaishali started off was different. No message, no film talks, no gossips. It was only Jackky Bhagnani; as a prankster, as a dancer, his shortcomings and his fitness regime. Then Miss Beautiful Smile blows her own trumpet. Why not? We've known a lot about Kal Kissne Dekha more than any other film in the last two months. But for the first time ever, Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent and UK's Harrow Observer and Gazette columnist brings you the never before heard Vaishali Desai in this exclusive rapid fire we play in hot summer. Jackky Bhagnani a prankster: He is a very big prankster. A lot of people think that he is very sweet on the set but it's not the truth always. He is always playing pranks on people. He is very restless and can't sit in one place. When his shot is going to take a while or if he is not shooting, he is doing something or the other. Jackky's shortcomings: I'd rather talk about my shortcomings than some one else's. Because we both are new comers, we both have shortcomings. I'm sure he'll know his own shortcomings. He has always been a thorough professional. Jackky as a dancer: I'd give him an eight out of ten because everybody has a scope for improvement and I think I wanted to do much better than he is doing (laughs). So I give him eight on ten. I'd give myself seven on ten just to make Jackky feel good (laughs). Jackky's fitness regime: Jackky is very particular about his food. I sometimes have burgers, pastas, etc but he avoids all the junk in the world. He even advices me on what not to have and what to as he is a fitness freak. We've worked out together for a year. He still gives me a lot of fitness tips. Vaishali's fitness regime: Vaishali Desai I start my day with a vegetable juice. It can be palak or dudhi (lauki). Then with two brown breads I have an egg white omlette. Lunch comprises of two chapati's and two vegetable curries with no oil along with some salad and cold set yoghurt. But before all the above, I kick start my healthy day with jogging, some sea side exercise, aerobics and sometimes a bit of yoga. I am now on a thrice a week schedule from twice a week and do not do any weight training. Vaishali Desai a food-o-holic: Starting from South Africa, our first schedule, Vashuji had this whole kitchen on wheels. We had cooks from India flown in. I used to have a lot of salad but I did a lot of normal food like sabji, roti, and soups in between. While I was shooting on the sets, I'd have a sugar free tea and protein biscuits, fruits every two hours. Sandwiches and salt free food could also be seen on my platter. Vaishali Desai a shop-o-holic: I didn't get to shop too much. Yes, I am a shop-o-holic but this time my mother took care of it. Wherever I go, I like to pick up soft toys for my younger sister Haryali. Mom just picked up one from New Zealand for her. While we were shooting in Bangkok, I got about thirty pairs of shoes, lots of clothes in South Africa, because it was very cold, I got to buy only souvenirs (laughs). Brand conscious Vaishali: Actually I love rasta shopping. But when it comes to my jeans, I am very particular. I love Pepe Jeans. It doesn't really matter which brand of t-shirt I am wearing because I pick them up sometimes from any small boutiques too. Though I love some of the tee's from Mango. I think they fit me well. I am not fond of jewellery and accessories. Watches too are not something I like wearing. Sometimes I do and again it has to be a branded one (laughs). Vaishali's favorite designers: I've worked with all the designers while I was modeling. But to answer your question, my favourite designer is Sabyasachi. I love his ethnic dresses, especially the blouses that he has with sarees. I love to be dressed by him. I also liked Manish Malhotra's dresses in Dostana. I like Surili Goel for casuals and Sunit Varma for his red carpet gowns that he designs. Tarun Tahiliani is good for his ensemble collection and Rohit Bal is best for his white and beige collection. Vaishali Desai Vaishali's favourite hot-spot: We did a two month trip to South Africa and shot in places like Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg. But from all three destinations, Durban was the hot-spot. We were put up in a Hotel near valleys and some mountains in the backdrop. It felt like no body has ever shot a film there. It was that scenic. New Zealand was very exotic and I loved it the most. Lake Tekapo and Omarama were beautiful. We did a lot of water shots there as the water was crystal clear. You could see your reflection in the water which was quite amazing. We stayed at the Royal Cliff Resort and did a lot of shopping there. Vaishali's gothic look: 'Tere Bina' is a beautiful song and is quite touching. It's romantic and hurts a lot too. I have a gothic look in the song where I wear a black dress with a black tear rolling down my cheek. It's got a gothic feel to it. I've never looked so horribly beautiful (laughs).

Subhash K Jha talks about Kal Kissne Dekha

Kal Kissne Dekha Kal Kiss....sounds like something we would rather do today. Since the film had the word 'kiss' tucked into its title we waited patiently for the young couple to share at least one chaste kiss. Alas, the closest debutants Jaccky Bhagnani and Vaishali Desai come to a kiss is a coquettish collision on the college campus where our simple-robust-prankish (etc, etc) hero from Chandigarh Nihal, with a few vital tips from his Bebe back home (Archana Puransingh, wonder how Kirron Kher missed out on this one) teaches the Campus Bitch a lesson or two in social etiquettes and basic good manners. Bebe did it for Shah Rukh in Duplicate and Om Shanti Om. Kal Kissne Dekha has nothing to give the audience except a 2-hour-plus show reel for the newcomer from his indulgent producer-father. As a vehicle for Jaccky Bhagnani's aptitudes this is a harmless, inoffensive sometimes-fun but never funny (in spite of concerted attempts at humour) vehicle. Sadly the audience at the moment is in no mood to indulge the indulgent producer-father. It expects much more than just indulgent trivia from their large-screen entertainment. The writing skills displayed in young Bhagnani's launch pad range from the intentionally funny to the abysmally tacky. The eye-confectionary is innocuous as long as the simple boy with the innocent smile(with incredibly white over-decalcified teeth) and the campus female-brat fight it out through a primeval mating game interspersed with 'cool' songs and dances with enough colours to put a mammoth carnival to shame. The serious stuff ends up being embarrassing in its clumsiness. Casting Rishi Kapoor as a college professor who moonlights as an explosive terrorist is a bomb of an idea. Please, yaar! We know Kapoor is the last word is versatility. But you can't have him smirking under makeup planting bombs randomly all over Mumbai. 'A Wince-Day', anybody? Interpolating extremism in a college romance is an extremely careless thing to do. We can't have terrorism as a potboiler- formula. Worse, we can't have Riteish Deshmukh as a funny don bumbling all over shopping malls and dance floors with his army of two henchmen, one effeminate the other indeterminate. Both hugely annoying, like their boss. The same is more or less true of the film. While director Vivek Sharma could wring a few moist-eyed scenes from his audience in his film about a friendly ghost Bhootnath the closest we come to any emotion while watching Kal Kisne Dekha is impatience. It's fine for an indulgent father to throw a party to introduce his son. But must we be invited as peering guests looking desperately for that fun spot in the proceedings where even the music is of the most unpalatable variety? All said and done, the debutants are easy on the eyes. Vaishali Sawant is leggy and moves well to the screechy music. Jaccky Bhagnani conveys the earnestness of the boy next-door who will help an old lady across the street with a jig and a smile, hoping some producer is watching his good deed of the day. You never know.

SRK's always game for audacious stunts

Shahrukh Khan Farhan Akhtar says Shah Rukh Khan will be performing daring stunts in Don 2. "He's always game for the audacious. But the health problems really frustrate him," says the director referring to the SRK's shoulder surgery this year. But now SRK is all set to bounce back with a full-on actioner in Don 2. And there's Priyanka Chopra for company again. Bipasha Basu who has been eased out of Race 2 firmly believes leading ladies don't have a future in sequels. But here's one to prove her wrong. Though Priyanka has apparently been left out of Dostana 2she's very much a part of Don 2which starts shooting, finally, in May 2010 in Ireland and Berlin. In fact Don 2 will be the first Indian film to be shot In Dublin. Says the producer Ritesh Sidhwani, "We're very much going ahead with the original cast Shah Rukh, Priyanka, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal and Om Puri. Only those who died in the original won't return, obviously." Also, for obvious reasons, this time there won't be a double role for Shah Rukh. What he will be doing is, some of the most heart-in-the-mouth stunts ever done by any leading man and certainly SRK's most audacious actioner yet. For this Shah Rukh needs to recover from this year's back surgery. Says a source, "This is why he allotted dates in 2009 to Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan. It requires very little physical exertion whereas Don 2 is a kick-ass role." When the proposal to do the sequel first came up Shah Rukh was very sure it would have to go beyond the first part in terms of locales, action and drama. Says producer Ritesh Sidhwani, "We're shooting Don 2 in Dublin .No Indian film has been shot there. We want to make sure that the sequel goes ahead of the first film. While the first part was a remake the sequel is an original script and would be much tougher to film for Shah Rukh and Farhan."

Sanjay Dutt reluctantly says no to IIFA

Sanjay Dutt If the large-hearted Sanjay Dutt had his way he wouldn't say no to any of his friends. But then it hasn't been easy managing his schedules in recent times. And for the sake of getting his schedules getting back on the right track Dutt has to do the unthinkable, and that includes turning down his dear friends, and an invitation to be part of an event being held in Macau right now. Says a source from Goa where Dutt is currently shooting for Rohit Shetty's All The Best, "A prominent representative Andre Timmins from Wizcraft in Macau came twice personally to Goa to invite Sanju. He was in two minds only because the Bachchans are such a prominent part of the event. " Finally Dutt declined with a heavy heart. Says the source, "He couldn't allow producer Ajay Devgan to suffer any more. For two months Ajay waited patiently with his lavish set in Goa for Sanju to finish campaigning for the Samajwadi party. Now Sanju's conscience wouldn't allow him a day's delay. He stayed back in Goa to shoot and allowed his leading lady Bipasha Basu to attend the event."

Vashu refuses to let SRK and Jackky share publicity

Download K K D wallpapers Producer Vashu Bhagnani's war with his director Vivek Sharma just got murkier. One of Vivek Sharma's demands on his producer is to let Shah Rukh Khan share the publicity hoardings with debutant Jackky Bhagnani. But Vashu protests, "Vivek had worked with Shah Rukh in Bhootnath. He came and told me he wanted to bring Shah Rukh into a cameo in Kal Kisne Dekha and now he wants it publicized. How can I single out Shah Rukh for prominence when there're other big stars making guest appearances in Kal Kisna Dekha? My motive is to make a movie for and promote my son. The big stars like Shah Rukh are in the film to bless Jackky. I don't want people to be conned into believing Shah Rukh has a big role. I don't come from a place where stars are exploited by producers in brief roles, sorry. Look at Rishi Kapoor. He returned a part of the payment when he knew I was facing a financial crunch. I'm obliged to this man. Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor...they are human beings. We all are going through recession and this is the time we need to come together to save the industry, not try to gain cheap publicity by hurling accusations." Disgusted and shocked by Vivek's behaviour, Vashu says, "I heard that he had a problem with Mehak Chahal in South Africa to the extent that she left my son's film in disgust. She sent me more than twenty messages describing what he allegedly did. But I didn't pay attention. I am a decent man, so I refused to believe these stories. But going by Vivek's recent behaviour I'm persuaded to believe Mehak." The harassed producer, just back from London is shocked and demoralized to hear the director's apparent allegations of payment default and even slapping. "How can I slap him from London? Vivek's PRO made up the story. I've never slapped anyone. He says he'll expose me. What have I done to him? Have I cheated or raped him? He says he'll teach me a lesson. What will he do? Slap me? He's a powerful man. He has worked with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan." The minute Vashu landed in Mumbai on Tuesday, he called Vivek Sharma's lawyer over and sorted it out. "He has slapped a legal notice on me for nothing. He was supposed to get the full and final payment on the day of the film's release on June 12. I can show you a copy of the legal agreement. I've now cleared his dues fully. I've more important things to think about. My entire family has been visiting temples keeping fasts and mannats for my son. I've spent Rs 34 crores over my son's film. Who would give this kind of film to a relatively new director to direct? As a father, I am grateful to Vivek Sharma for taking on a film with a newcomer after directing Mr. Amitabh Bachchan (in Bhootnath). But, as a producer, I can't take his rude behaviour. He's been going around telling people, 'Who's Jackky Bhagnani?' Jackky is my son. And he has done a good job. I maintain that Vivek is a good technician. But his ego is larger than his talent." Vashu is still incredulous, "Vivek wanted to put a stay order on my son's film for money. For a small sum of money???!!! I've emptied my coffers to make Kal Kisna Dekha. I've only one son. He has worked hard. From a fat 130 kg kid he became a 70 kg lad! Anyway, I've cleared all of Vivek's dues. And I wish him all the best.

Visual sophistry powers Angels & Demons

Hollywood is at the cutting edge in the art and science of visual effects (vfx), so much so that they can create whole cities from the scratch. For Tom Hanks starrer Angels & Demons, based in the heart of the Christian papacy, the filmmakers had locations that were either impractical or forbidden to shoot in. So what they did instead was relied on vfx to recreate the amazing architecture of Rome and The Vatican City - The Sistine Chapel, the Passetto, Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Navona - partials sets of which were built in Los Angeles. London based MPC (Moving Picture Company) helped creating CG environments including the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican and the high-tech Hadron Particle Collider in CERN, Geneva. The post-production studio completed 170 shots for the film, ranging from full CG environments and vfx sequences to complicated composites including the title sequence, a fully CG papal ring, the birth of Antimatter, CERN sequences, CG environments of Rome and Vatican, The Sistine Chapel, the Passetto, Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Navona. MPC VFX supervisor Richard Stammers, who oversaw the London team, told Bollywood Hungama, "I handled most of the shoot attendance in Rome personally, and was responsible for photographing the stills used for the CG environment builds. In some cases I would send batches back to MPC overnight to be checked by our matchmove dept. so they could confirm any additional angles that may be required for image modelling." Here's a shot-by-shot breakdown of the whole process.
