Here's a news-break and as always, its first on 'Bollywood Hungama'.
There's a dramatic twist in the producers/distributors versus multiplexes tale. Vashu Bhagnani's film KAL KISSNE DEKHA, which was slated for release on 29th May, has been shifted ahead, to some time in June. The release date is uncertain, as of now.
Vashu had decided to release the film in single screens and standalone multiplexes the coming Friday [29th May], standing by the directive issued by his association. But there were rumours throughout the week that Vashu had decided "to break the unity" by releasing the film at the national chain of multiplexes.
In fact, there was talk that the national chain of multiplexes were trying hard to convince Vashu to release the film in their properties, in view of the fact that KAL KISSNE DEKHA happens to be Vashu's son Jakky Bhagnani's film.
But Vashu has decided to put an end to all controversies and postpone the film, till the issue with multiplexes is sorted out. When this writer spoke to Vashu on Saturday afternoon [23rd May], the prolific producer confirmed the development, "Yes, KAL KISSNE DEKHA is not arriving on 29th May. I've decided to release the film after 2 or 3 weeks. I just hope that a solution comes out in a couple of days."
Vashu has spent a fortune publicising the film and now that the film has been shifted ahead, Vashu will have to spend an additional amount to keep the promotion in the same gear.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 May 2009 | 2:20 pm Mumbai will always be home: Freida Pinto

Remember Nilu Phule, the stage and film veteran Marathi actor who played the sleazy terrorizing politician in Mahesh Bhatt's timeless classic on countering hooliganism Saaransh?
When the film's leading man Anupam Kher, on completing 25 years in films decided to hold a belated premiere of the film on May 25 at the very theatre (Metro), where it was first released, he decided to regroup the entire cast and crew of Saaransh.
From director Mahesh Bhatt to producer Raj Kumar Barjatya to the film's romantic lead Mohan Joshi and Soni Razdan (director Bhatt's wife) to music composer Ajit Varman (the musical genius now lives in anonymity in Andheri). They all jumped at the idea of reliving what's unarguably the single-most important event in their life.
Only Nilu Phule, an important theatre and film actor active from 1956, was untraceable.
There began Anupam's hunt for the missing actor. "There was no way I'd relive Saaransh which today is more relevant as a work of cinema than ever before, without one of its important actors. No one seemed to know where Nilu Phule was. I finally got an address for him in Pune. I drove down personally to the address. But Nilu didn't live there any more. My hunt began all over again."
Phule was finally tracked him down to another location in Pune.
Says Anupam emotionally, "It was a glorious revisitation. We both could barely hold back our tears. Unfortunately, Nilu's health does not permit him to make that journey from Pune to Mumbai. He was ready to come. But his doctor advised him against it. We'll miss Nilu at the premiere."
Anupam has invited his close friends from within and outside the film industry for the premiere of Saaransh on Sunday. "Naresh Goel and Yash Chopra will be there. But Subhash Ghai can't attend because he's in Cannes. I even invited singer Kavita Krishnamurthy who sang an evocative song in Saaransh . But she's in Poland."
The actor has also commissioned a half-hour documentary on Saaransh.
"To me Saaransh is the sum-total of my entire career. It voices all the concerns that I hold precious. If I'm even 20 percent of the human being that my character B.B. Pradhan was, I've achieved enough in life."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 May 2009 | 12:45 pm Kareena shaken by fan frenzy at AhmedabadKareena Kapoor won't forget her first trip to Ahmedabad for a long time.Source: Entertainment News | 23 May 2009 | 12:41 pm Mumbai will always be home: Freida PintoWhile she is travelling all around the world and meeting famous people, Freida Pinto, heroine of the Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire", feels Mumbai will always be her home.Source: Entertainment News | 23 May 2009 | 12:32 pm 'Road to Sangam' adopts Gandhi's idea at Cannes"Road to Sangam", a reality-inspired fictional account that draws elements from the last days of Mahatma Gandhi's life, is one of the more interesting films on view at the India Pavillion in Cannes.Source: Entertainment News | 23 May 2009 | 12:24 pm DETECTIVE NAANI - NDTV.com

Akshaye Khanna and Madhavan would be teaming up for an espionage thriller titled Basra. To be directed by Navdeep Singh of Manorama - Six Feet Under fame, the film would feature Shahana Goswami as the leading lady and as per the director, would be an 'intelligent commercial thriller'.
Laughs Navdeep, "People keep asking me if I am going full on commercial with Basra after Manorama - Six Feet Under (Abhay Deol, Gul Panag, Raima Sen). Well, my answer to them is that yes, it's a commercial film but with an intelligent way of story telling. Audience won't be taken for granted in this espionage thriller."
Talking about the relevance of the film's title, Navdeep reveals, "'Basra is the name of a port in Iraq and exists for centuries. The city forms a major part of the film's script." Incidentally, Basra is Iraq's second largest city after Baghdad and is also a historic location of Sumer, the home of 'Sindbad - The Sailor'."
So what are Akshaye and Maddy doing in the film? "While Maddy plays a Mumbai cop, Akshaye is an investigating officer. Shahana plays the role of a journalist. This is all I can reveal at this moment", says Navdeep who would be returning to direction close to three years after he last called the shots for Manorama - Six Feet Under.
There is one more leading lady yet to be finalised and the hunt is currently on for her. Meanwhile Navdeep has his shooting plans more or less chalked out for Basra which is being produced by Nikhil Advani and Mukesh Talreja. "We should begin shooting early August. The film requires a lot of action and both Akshaye and Maddy would be shown kicking their action boots", he says.
So how did he go about bringing together an unusual cast together for his film? Says Navdeep, "Akshaye was a very clear choice for the film since he just fitted the part. On the other hand I had been following Maddy's work over a period of time and especially after I saw him in Aayutha Ezhuthu, the Tamil version of Yuva, where he played the role enacted by Abhishek Bachchan, I knew I had to work with him."
How about Shahana? Is she going to go through an image change and would be seen in a full on glamour avatar? Laughs Navdeep, "Nothing like that actually. As a journalist, she won't quite get that kind of opportunity here. As for her acting skills, she is extremely gifted and movies like Rock On, Firaaq' and even lesser known affairs like Ru Ba Ru and Yun Hota To Kya Hota have been good examples to demonstrate that. Moreover, she is an easy actor to work with, something that is so imperative during film making."
Exactly the sentiment that is shared by Madhavan as well. "Navdeep is my kind of director because for him what holds utmost importance is a concrete storyline. When he narrated Basra to me, I was simply blown over and had no hesitation signing it", he says.
For producers Mukesh Talreja and Nikhil Advani, Basra would be their fourth film as they would be collaborating once again after Salaam-E-Ishq, Chandni Chowk To China and Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (which is currently under production).Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 May 2009 | 11:29 am Mascara and Black Nail Polish - Indian Express

Socha Na Tha was the movie that needs to be blamed for making the film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! a smash hit. Well, to say it in other words, it was Socha Na Tha that gave Bollywood a hero who was truly, madly, dedicated to doing something different in Bollywood, that his fans made it a point to make every film of his a smash hit!
Well, we are referring to none other than Dev D's hero, who dared to redefine the quintessential Bollywood hero with his superlative acting skills in all his films. It is this dude whose 'ocular flirting' can be witnessed in the latest issue of 'People'. This interview of Abhay is one amongst the best in the recent times. It serves as a torch to the myth that Abhay is a very casual and carefree guy, as it shows the 'serious' side of the actor. Recently, he announced to the world that he is taking a sabbatical from Bollywood to go to New York and learn 'welding'. Well, that's Abhay for you. In this issue, he tells the real reason behind him going to the Big Apple. He also talks about his forthcoming films and much, much more.
Overall, this issue serves as refreshing lemon water to the parched throats of the summer-struck readers. Way to go, Abhay!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 May 2009 | 10:55 am Kamlesh Pandey, Ben Rekhi talk about their screenwriting workshop Scriptwalla
We all have thoughts floating in our head. Feelings, sentiments, emotions, theories, observations... all of them floating in our mind. Some obvious to the mind's eye. Others not so obvious. Because some of them are abstract, unsaid, and exist more as an essence than as solid thoughts. A great writer is able to summon all these thoughts, coax and pry them out of the hidden and uncharted recesses of his mind, cajole them into taking a tangible shape, and then express them on paper in the form of words. Express them as words so lucidly and soulfully, that their essence is not lost even when what he writes is translated. Kamlesh Pandey from Bollywood and Ben Rekhi from Hollywood are two such great writers. Both together have started a ten week workshop called Scriptwalla to be held at Whistling Woods International from June 2, and by the end of the workshop, fifteen writers will come out with a hundred and twenty page bound script which they'll be able to sell to producers. How about that? A platform for all budding screen writers to showcase their hidden talent. Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent and UK's Harrow Observer columnist gets to know both the talented personalities as they get talking about their mission, movement and mad passion for writing.
How did the thought of Scriptwalla came about? Kamlesh: I get phone calls everyday from aspiring writers who want to either assist me or want to know about the art of script writing. While I'm working I don't have time to teach people. In Hollywood there are screenwriting workshops taking place everywhere. We call ourselves the biggest film industry in the world and yet do not have a single screenwriting workshop. So I always wanted to share my experience and expertise with new writers because the advantage I couldn't get, I wanted them to achieve that. I have been a visiting faculty in Whistling Woods International and did meet Ben Rekhi last year on a project we are doing together. He is from Hollywood and has been writing various scripts in Mumbai since eight months. We both sat and had a lot of talking to do about the kind of scripts being written here. Our thoughts matched, East met the West and Scriptwalla started.
What's the fee structure? Kamlesh: The fee structure for the entire ten week workshop is going to be Rs 50,000 and we are looking at a complete houseful. The good thing is that it's not a one off attempt. Every ten weeks there will be a new batch coming in and will keep on continuing like that. We are going to invite established writers once in a while to address the students so they get motivated.
Any scripts in the last two to three years worth mentioning? Kamlesh: In the last two to three years I've loved the script of both the Munnabhai series. Honestly speaking, I am not really impressed with the remake scripts being written. It doesn't show that you are a good writer but a good thief. Having said that, Mr. India 2 is not a remake but a sequel and it takes off from where the first one ends. I have to be a bit biased here but I do like Rang De Basanti. Ghajini was not bad as a script even though it belonged to some old fashioned seventies cinema writing.
Any Bollywood films and writers you've been impressed with? Ben: love the seventies style of Bollywood. Coolie is a brilliant film well written. But in the recent times I like the work of Anurag Kashyap. I loved Dev D style of writing. Dibakar Bannerji is another Francis Ford Coppola in the making. He has got the sense of cinema that elevates to international audiences. Mani Ratnam comes next in my list and then RGV who tries to break new grounds as well.
Any message for the budding, aspiring writers who'd want to join Scriptwalla?
Kamlesh: Anybody who thinks they can write, here is a chance of a lifetime. Here in ten weeks, you will be able to learn the basic art of screenwriting. Thanks to Whistling Woods International who've offered us their own classroom to conduct this workshop. Some of their students too may join the workshop. What makes Scriptwalla different from others is that unlike other courses which concentrate on editing, cinematography, writing, sound, etc, Scriptwalla will only focus on writing.
Ben: Writing is a passion. If you feel it, if you have a story to tell, you have to discipline yourself to sit down and do it. Writing is not about thinking of ideas; it is about sitting in your chair and just write, write and write. Even if you don't fit in our workshop and competition, please feel free to contact us as we want to bridge the gap between writers and production companies.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 May 2009 | 10:55 am Pitt slams rumours of split with Jolie
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 23 May 2009 | 10:40 am "No one even sneezed on location in New York"- Rensil D'Silva
Cutting down all talk of a swine-flu scare in North America, director Rensil D'Silva who last month shot a long schedule in New York of his film featuring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Om Puri starrer says, "There were absolutely no worries about the swine flu. No one even sneezed on location in New York. It all went very, very smoothly. There was absolutely no question of fleeing the city because of the health scare. Ours was a very dedicated team."
Rensil, like many other filmmakers feels the swine-flu scare has been overdone in the media. In fact Barbara Mori, who's from Mexico where the deadly flu virus originated, was in Cannes this week with Rakesh, Hrithik Roshan and director Anurag Basu. "It all fine. No swine," joked Rakesh Roshan.
Back to Rensil, he couldn't accompany his producer Karan Johar to Cannes. "I've some shooting left to do. But we prepared a 90-second trailer for Cannes which Karan took along with his film My Name Is Khan."
The New York schedule of Rensil's film was totally stress-free. So unlike the Delhi schedule where crowds kept coming into camera range.
Says Rensil, "New York has a lot of fans of Indian cinema. But they know how to keep their distance. We shot the entire schedule without mishap."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 May 2009 | 9:39 am I can never surpass my Saaransh performance: Anupam - Hindustan Times

The IPL mania is coming to an end with the tournament getting into its semi-final and final stage this weekend. While the action may have shifted to South
Africa this year, it hasn't dampened the euphoria which the tournament has managed to generate.
Last year, the closing ceremony and finals held at Mumbai's swanky D.Y.Patil stadium saw a breathtaking performance by Salman Khan. This year too Bollywood
will make its presence felt at the IPL finals despite the fact that none of 3 teams owned by the three Bollywood stars (SRK, Preity and Shilpa) has made it
to the finals.
While Sallu rocked the night last year during the IPL closing ceremony, this year Bollywood divas Katrina Kaif & Shilpa Shetty will be seen setting the stage
on fire at Sunday's finals at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg. Kats is scheduled to perform a medley of songs (including the Slumdog Millionaire
track 'Jai Ho') in a special act choreographed by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar. Speaking about performing in front of a huge cricket crazy
audience, Katrina says, "I am very happy to perform at the closing ceremony of the IPL. It will be like walking the dream. It's going to be the most
televised show and I am really excited about it."
As for Shilpa, while her team Rajasthan Royals has failed to make it to the Final 4 this time around, the actress would nevertheless still be seen during the
closing ceremony performing along side American R& B sensation Akon.
With such a star-studded line-up of performers, not to mention a cracker of a match, this Sunday evening is indeed going to be entertainment galore for all
cricket lovers.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 May 2009 | 4:24 pm Big B's latest look from Aladin

The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), the central agency established to encourage the good cinema movement in the country commenced the shooting of its fully produced film titled As the River Flows. The movie, inspired by a true incident, stars Victor Banerjee, Sanjay Suri, Raj Zutshi, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam and newcomer Bidita Bag. The film is written and directed by National Award winning filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky.
As The River Flows tells the story of a journalist named Abhijit Shandilya who is caught in a multi-layered world of intriguing happenings in the largest inhabited river island in the world, Majuli, in Assam. The movie, a socio-political thriller, talks of social conflicts and individual commitments in an age where being self centered is the norm. .
Talking about the film Bidyut Kotkoy, the director says, "Initially, I had my apprehension regarding NFDC, considering the general conception associated with a government organisation. But I must say, my experience with them came as a pleasant surprise. With my personal experience, I can claim that NFDC still remains the best bet for a newcomer if you have a good story to tell."
As the River Flows is a bilingual film being made in Hindi and Assamese. While the Hindi version will be named as As The River Flows, its Assamese version will be called Ekhon Nedhekha Nadir Shipaare. Well-known Assamese music composer and singer Zubin Garg has composed the music of the film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 May 2009 | 3:57 pm Sean Penn calls off divorce

After being busy with the election campaign for almost a month, Sanjay Dutt is back to doing what he does best- 'Acting'. Sanju Baba is busy shooting with the cast and crew of Rohit Shetty's laugh-riot All The Best - Fun Begins in the sun clad beaches of Goa.
Recently, a high octane song for the film was shot on a lavish set constructed in South Goa and the biggest attraction was none other than Sanjay Dutt who looked like a true Rockstar with a dark black ganjee and a light coloured stole. After playing gangster roles in many of his recent films, this new look of Sanju Baba will surely come as a pleasant surprise to many of his fans. Sanju's look has been styled by Aalim and costumes have been designed by Navin Shetty.
For the spectacular song, Sanju was not just required to dance and perform but had to even play the drums. Apparently, Sanju Baba, who has a liking for musical instruments, was thrilled at the prospect of playing the drums and with just one rehearsal he gave the perfect shot in the first take itself.
Director Rohit Shetty, needless to say, was over the moon to see Deadly Dutt in his Rockstar avatar. Rohit says, "Sanjay Dutt is very good with instruments. In the past, I have seen his films where he used to play the guitar so effortlessly. Even in this film, he has a shot where he plays the drums. I brought in two trainers from Mumbai for him to practice and get the feel of the instruments. But Sanjay surprised me by asking if he could do it on his own. And he impressed everyone when he shot it perfectly in just one take! I ended up sending the trainers back to Mumbai!"
In the past, we have seen Sanju taking to the mike, strumming the guitar in some of his films. In All The Best - Fun Begins, his fans will get to see their favorite macho star play the drums. We're sure this itself will be among one of the USP's of this film when it opens across cinemas this Diwali.
Besides Dutt, All The Best - Fun Begins also stars Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse in lead roles.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 May 2009 | 11:15 am Shah Rukh starrer Dulha Mil Gaya to release on 18th September
It's confirmed. Dulha Mil Gaya would be releasing all over on 18th September. This would give the film a four day extended weekend since the festival of Eid falls on Monday, 21st September. Producer Viveck Vaswani is certainly heaving a sigh of relief as for the first time ever; he goes on record with the exact date of release.
"I had always maintained that it is producer's prerogative to announce the date of his film's release. Over last so many months, there were so many out there announcing the film's arrival on my behalf. It was annoying initially but later it just started amusing me. There were so many different dates floating around even when I had never gone on record to talk about the exact date", says Viveck who is still not resting after the completion of a hectic final schedule of Dulha Mil Gaya.
He goes on to add, "So now let me state on record that 18th September is the day when my film arrives. I can assure that it's going to be one BIG festival movie. Dulha Mil Gaya is about celebration and the release timelines for the movie should further aid that."
Directed by first timer Muddassar Aziz, the film was 95% complete till a few months back and was held up for completion since Shah Rukh Khan couldn't shoot for a 'qawalli' sequence. Battling a shoulder injury, Shah Rukh finally managed to complete the film's shoot by working non-stop for three days earlier this week.
"Correction - it wasn't three days but three days and three nights. Even though he was in acute pain throughout and I suggested that we reschedule the shoot, he said that 'let's finish the shoot; it's already too late'. What more can one say about the commitment of a man like this", says Viveck with admiration in his tone.
With the shooting of the 'qawalli' track, Dulha Mil Gaya is now 100% ready w.r.t. principal shooting.
Smiles Viveck, "In any case we had already begun work on post production in parallel so there hasn't been waste of time, resource or energy. The film's dubbing too is 50% complete. Sushmita should be having her dub soon though for Fardeen, I will hold on for a while till he starts feeling a little more composed after his father's demise.
