Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 14 May 2009 | 4:50 pm Sonam Kapoor all set to walk the Red Carpet at CannesDespite the poor performance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya at the B.O., one saw its debutant hero Ranbir Kapoor's career zooming to dizzying heights, while it took sometime for Sonam Kapoor to make it to the 'it' list. But when she did, she simply did it in style! Today, Sonam has not only become the face of cosmetic major L'Oreal, but she will also be walking the prestigious Red Carpet at the forthcoming Cannes International Film Festival for the brand. In fact, she will be walking the Red Carpet with none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! On this development, an excited Sonam says, "The name L'Oreal Paris is immediately evocative of the brand's signature phrase: 'Because I'm worth it'. Representing L'Oreal Paris as a woman and an artiste is an honour and a privilege, and the pleasure is mine!" Sonam also added that, for her, being on the same platform as Aishwarya was a big deal in itself and that she has always adored her, but met her only once, during the Delhi 6 Premiere. Not just that, this pretty young lass is tad confident of carrying off the Indian outfits, by designers Anamika, Manish and Gaurav, on the Red Carpet. If that's not enough, then, the icing on the cake is that she will also be dressed by an international designer for one of the events! It is also learnt that Sonam will be accompanied by her daddy dearest Anil Kapoor to Cannes. Way to go, Sonam!Source: Indiafm.com News | 14 May 2009 | 3:38 pm Lawsuit filed against Karan Johar and Dharma Productions? There were reports that eminent filmmaker Karan Johar along with his production house Dharma Productions have been given a legal notice. This comes while the crew was in Philadelphia shooting for the Saif-Kareena starrer film directed by Rensil D'Silva. The lawsuit in question is for Dharma Productions' non-payment to the local workers and actors hired for the shooting. However, an inside source says, "Dharma Productions had hired line producer Swish Films for the film, and all amounts pending had been paid much in advance. However, due to internal problems Swish was unable to pay the due amount to the actors and vendors, hence, causing a default in payment." We further found out that the lawsuit that has been filed is on the line producer Swish Films and not directly on Dharma Productions. Speaking about this, the source adds, "The lawsuit that has been filed in the Common Pleas Court has been lodged against Swish Films and not against Dharma Productions or Karan for that matter. It is just that since we are also involved with the film, that we are being dragged into this." All said and done, it is now clear that Dharma Productions has no direct involvement in this legal matter.Source: Indiafm.com News | 14 May 2009 | 3:15 pm Is Aamir doing a disco number in Delhi Belly? One needs to give it to Aamir Khan, for doing things in style that just cannot be replicated. The intensity with which he safeguards anything and everything related to his films is something that should (ironically) get him an Oscar! Aamir is yet again in the news with his latest production venture Delhi Belly, starring his nephew Imran Khan alongwith Shenaz Treasurywala. The latest buzz, according to our reliable sources, is that Aamir is doing a disco number as a part of the film's promotion. In order to confirm the same, when Bollywood Hungama spoke to Abhinay Deo, the director of Delhi Belly, he said, "I just cannot confirm or comment anything right now, since it's not yet confirmed." One must say that Aamir's presence in the film will only add one more feather to the already overflowing cap of reasons to watch Delhi Belly.Source: Indiafm.com News | 14 May 2009 | 2:59 pm Freida Pinto becomes new face of L'Oreal ParisIf the saying, 'An actor is as famous as his last film' is any parameter to gauge someone's success, then, Freida Pinto should be kilometers ahead of all the Bollywood's heroines. All that it took for her was an Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire that changed the fortunes of practically everyone who was even remotely associated with it. Freida, who has by now, redefined the term 'overnight sensation', is on cloud nine for she has been chosen to endorse products by L'Oreal, the cosmetic giant. "I am very moved to be joining the great L'Oreal Paris family, a family I am now proud to be a part of" says Frieda. Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 14 May 2009 | 10:29 am "Keep the moustache bro" - Sanjay Dutt on 'Aladin'
Before signing Sujoy Ghosh directed Aladin, Sanjay Dutt had only one condition. He wanted the moustache to stay intact for the character of 'Ringmaster' that he plays in the film.
Remembers Sujoy, "It was year 2006 when I showed Dutt saab all my homework on 'Ringmaster' and a storyboard of a Ringmaster sequence. He looked at everything and especially his getup and gave me his consent in four words. I remember these four words verbatim. He said - 'Keep the moustache Bro'. He was quite fascinated by the entire storyboarding, especially the way his character looked."
In fact Sujoy was in for a pleasant surprise when he realised that it was Amitabh Bachchan himself who got in touch with Sanjay Dutt and sounded him about the part of 'Ringmaster' that was tailor made for him.
"I still remember the three hour narration that I had with Sir (Bachchan). After the narration the first thing Sir said was - 'It's going to be a nightmare to make this film but let's make it. But who will play Ringmaster? Who 'CAN' play Ringmaster?' Thankfully I was quite clear about the man who could do that. I told Sir that the only person who could play 'Ringmaster' was either Sir himself or Sanjay Dutt", narrates Sujoy in an animated tone.
Apparently, Amitabh Bachchan too was quite kicked about Sujoy's choice and was in agreement with Sanjay Dutt playing the part. He instructed Sujoy to reach out to Sanjay Dutt and narrate the script to him.
"I prepared myself to talk to Duttsaab in the gym that evening. However, imagine my surprise when my mobile rung and it was Dutt saab himself on the call. He told me that Sir had already given him a call and was sounding quite excited about the film. He wanted all details about the movie there and then. In mock anger, he also pulled me in for not talking to him first about the movie. I had to then explain to him that I was going to do that and had no idea that Sir was going to call", smiles Sujoy as he remembers the conversation from the past.
Nevertheless, the conversation did happen and Sanjay Dutt was on board immediately.
However, things weren't as smooth for Sujoy and his team even as his principal star cast was in place. It was year 2007 and things weren't moving forward at the kind of speed that the filmmaker would have expected.
"Preparations were on full force for Aladin and we were almost there. However, Dutt saab took a sabbatical and things were unclear. Honestly, there were choices laid out in front of me but I was always very clear about my choice", says Sujoy, "If at all Aladin had to turn into cinematic reality, it was to be made with Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh. I happily waited for things to fall back in place and today, I have it all!"
An EROS production, Aladin has music by Vishal & Shekhar and is all set for a 24th July release.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 May 2009 | 10:25 am Freida Pinto is the new face of L'Oreal Paris

It has been close to a fortnight since the announcement around Rakta Charitra was made. While Ram Gopal Varma has proudly announced the cast of the film, the man of the moment, Vivek Oberoi, is currently out of country shooting for Jihaad (tentative title). Joginder Tuteja catches up with the young man who can't help but term Ramu as 'master' and opens up to talk about everything from his so-called comeback, perception about him in the industry, alleged link ups and excitement around working in Rakta Charitra amongst other things. Over to Vivek!
Isn't it surprising that media is calling Rakta Charitra as a big comeback when you have seen success regularly with Shootout At Lokhandwala [2007], Omkara [2006], Kaal [2005], Yuva [2004], Masti [2004], Dum [2003], Saathiya [2002], Road [2002] and Company [2001]?
Perception is a very potent weapon. Unfortunately, sometimes it is successfully used to alter reality. The funny thing is that until you pointed this observation out so clearly, even I never really saw my career this way. Perceptions about you can be so strong that sometimes even you yourself might end up believing them, even if they're untrue.
But clearly, it seems to be the case of people ignoring success and highlighting failure?
Despite all the games people can play, truth has its own destiny. Work so hard and do so well that people cannot ignore your success even if they want to. Give it your best, believe and leave the rest to god.
There were also stories around your frequent link ups with various women during last so many months. Was it a deliberate camouflage on your part to showcase the relaxed - I don't care' persona of yours?
Apparently, I am quite the candidate for imaginary link ups. I am flattered by most and some I even wish were true (smiles) but unfortunately, no such luck! If there's one thing I'm very bad at, it's camouflage. The 'I don't care' persona you're referring to is an outcome of me realizing how hopelessly bad I am at putting on an image or faking a persona! It's too tiring to be plastic. Why be someone you are not when you can just be happy being yourself.
It has been close to a fortnight since the announcement around Rakta Charitra was made. Of course there would be different talks behind your back and in front of you. Still, what are the kinds of reactions that you have gathered ever since you were signed on?
My phone has been flooded with congratulations! All over the net people have been so positive. My fans are even more excited and happy than I am and that makes me truly happy. I thank them for their constant belief, love and support.
You are currently in overseas shooting for Rensil's film. Aren't you missing all the attention that you could have gained were you in the city?
I have learned in my roller coaster ride of life that in Bollywood, too much attention can be a bad thing.
Coming to your other movies, there were a couple of them announced with you sometime back - UTV's 7G Rainbow Colony and an Anubhav Sinha/Vikram Bhatt collaboration. What's happening to them?
I am fortunate to have been signed by some great producers but to make good cinema we need good scripts and good scripts take time to develop. UTV and I have shared a long and strong relationship and I am glad they believe in me so much.
A question on the parting note. On the first day of shoot for Rakta Charitra, what are you going to say to Ramu?
It's good to be home (smiles).Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 May 2009 | 9:57 am 'Afterlife' takes back Gurinder to Punjabi rootsBritish-Indian filmmaker Gurinder Chadha is behind the camera once again for her next comedy "It's A Wonderful Afterlife" and says it's a film of many firsts.Source: Entertainment News | 14 May 2009 | 9:56 am Freida Pinto becomes new face of L'Oreal ParisAfter Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor, "Slumdog Millionaire" actress Freida Pinto has become the face of international cosmetic brand L'Oreal.Source: Entertainment News | 14 May 2009 | 9:18 am "My book 'A Taste Of Life' will outlive all my movies" - Mahesh BhattThe irrepressible Mahesh Bhatt is ready with his latest shocker. It's my diary of my last days with the breath of my life U.G. Krishnamurthy. This is by far the best work I've ever done in my life. It's the most naked expression of my heart. It's going to be a shocker." The book hits stores at the end of May. "It tears down the sacred ideas of the human race. It stares unflinching into the face of death. And it celebrates life." Speaking on the end of his career as a director Bhatt says, "The page has turned. Chances of me directing another film are almost nil. I now want to watch the young directors in our production house make films. When you teach the young you touch the future. Some people have said I ghost-directed our latest production Jashn. The film is the brainchild of the co-directors Raksha and Hasnain. It is unfair to strip them of the credit." Excited about the release of his book Bhatt concludes, "It's not as thought I've given up on creativity. I'm now more vigorously engaged with the stream of life than ever before. The latest to join the bandwagon is Paritosh Painter, who has acted/penned/directed a number of comedy plays, besides writing the script of Indra Kumar's laughathon DHAMAAL. Paritosh's directorial debut PAYING GUESTS, a mini multi-starrer, is ready to be unveiled to the audiences. Subhash Ghai's company Mukta Arts Entertainment has produced the film. There's an interesting story behind Paritosh directing the film. "I had barely completed narrating a story to Subhash-ji [Ghai], when he asked me, 'Who do you suggest should direct this film?' I could think of David Dhawan and Priyadarshan, who've helmed some great entertainers in the past. Subhash-ji heard me out and then remarked, 'Why don't you direct the film?' I was flummoxed. I had never held a camera in my entire life. I didn't know the basics of direction. How could I direct a film? But Subhash-ji instilled confidence in me and gave me an experienced team to overcome my fears," Paritosh recalls. How was the experience of making a film for Subhash Ghai? It's often said that he interferes in films directed by outsiders. True? "You know something, I was told by several people that I better watch out, that Subhash-ji interferes a lot. Forget visiting me on the sets during the shooting, he didn't even attend the mahurat ceremony. In fact, Abbas-Mustan directed the first shot of the film. It's only now, after the film was complete, did he watch the film," Paritosh adds. Paritosh is extremely charged about the film. "My fundas are clear. I've grown up on non-stop entertainers. I've produced plays keeping in mind the fact that the audience watching it should return home with a smile. And my first film is also an unadulterated entertainer. I can assure you one thing. You'll step out of the auditorium with a big smile on your face. This laughathon will bowl you," he adds.Source: Indiafm.com News | 14 May 2009 | 7:13 am Mahesh Bhatt is ready to shock fans againFilmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has managed to surprise his fans by showing slices of his life in his narratives like 'Arth' that was about his relationship with late actress Parveen Babi and 'Zakhm', about him and his mother. Yash Raj Films may not have had a single release till date this year (with New York getting postponed thanks to the ongoing strike) but the country's premiere production house is busy churning films one after the other.
While shooting for Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rocket Singh-Salesman Of The Year has already commenced in full swing, even the shooting of YRF's Pyaar Impossible has commenced big time.
For the uninitiated, Pyaar Impossible is a sweet romantic comedy which stars Uday Chopra, Priyanka Chopra and Dino Morea in lead roles. The film is directed by Jugal Hansraj (who earlier directed the animation flick Roadside Romeo for YRF).
Before the commencement of the shooting, the cast and crew organized a special puja to mark to beginning of the film. Everyone right from Uday Chopra, Priyanka Chopra, Dino Morea and Jugal Hansraj to Yash Chopra, Pamela Chopra and Anupam Kher were present on this auspicious occasion. Later on, Uday and Jugal's good friend Karan Johar gave the mahurat clap for the film thereby kick starting the shoot of the film.
Pyaar Impossible is the story of two diverse and extremely opposite personalities falling in love. Abhay (Uday Chopra) is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged, bespectacled geek while Alisha (Priyanka Chopra) is the epitome of beauty that any man would dream to have. What happens when the worlds of these two individuals collide is what forms the crux of Pyaar Impossible.
YRF are leaving no stone unturned to promote this film and even had the gorgeous Priyanka Chopra launch the official website of the film at an event yesterday. One will have to wait and watch if the unusual pairing of Uday Chopra and Priyanka Chopra strikes a chord with the audienceSource: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 13 May 2009 | 1:42 pm Abhishek Bachchan first to own Chelsea's latest jerseyBollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, an ardent football fan, was on cloud nine when he became the first owner of the latest jersey of the Chelsea Football Club.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 13 May 2009 | 1:32 pm Sonali Bendre to endorse Pril dishwashHenkel India Limited announced the re-launch of its flagship dishwash brand Pril, a key player in the utensil cleaner category. It's the RGV controversy season yet again as this director loves to be hated. With much said and done about the controversial song depicting the Indian National Anthem in his recently launched song promo of Rann, the lyrics 'Jana Gana Mana Rann' have now come in the eyes of the censors. Now in a do or die situation, RGV fights his own battle in the Rann. Will one man, lyricist of 'Jana Gana Mana Rann', Sarim Momin come to the rescue of RGV and his Rann? Without losing focus on the media and politics, Ramu nails the adrenaline rush of breaking news and emphasizes the power of a medium being used to its potential. The director's strongest promo shows the calm before the storm, signifying the start of what will be a historic broadcast, or will it? Censors may apply their own politics to it, but they're missing the point. This is an incendiary attack on complacency but the Rann promo occupies a chapter of history when words spoken via television captured a national audience. It should raise the pulse and bubble the red blood of any audience members proud enough to call themselves Indians. As RGV has used the line - Truth is Terrible. Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent and UK's Harrow Observer columnist Devansh Patel brings you Sarim's take, who shares his views on the controversy and why he thinks the song should be dear to all the citizens of India in the following excerpt. Over to Sarim...
Sarim Momin:
"When I was writing this song, I wanted to capture the emotions of a situation in the film where the citizens of India are asked to wake up; To wake up and realize that we are not being fair to the country by letting anti-national powers flourish for their personal gains, that we are surrendering the very freedom that we fought for, that we are dividing the country when we should actually stand up united for it's progress.
Now, if we had used lines like "Jaag jao... Bharat ko bachaao' or 'Humari jaan Hindustan', maximum reaction would have been a yawn or a raise of an eyebrow. Or both, if somebody really liked it and were generous.
It would NOT have made people sit up and think about the current state.
Diverting from the song for a moment, the Election Commission started many campaigns this year to urge Indians to come out and vote yet the turnout was only around 50%. It's not like we don't care. It's just that we don't care enough to make an effort to even elect the best men to decide the future and fate of our country. We are comfortably numb and almost sleepy to what is happening to us.
And how do we wake up a person who is asleep? Do we sing lullaby to him? Or do we shrug him and shake him out of sleep?
As the script demanded it, with this song, the characters want to shrug and shake people out of their slumber; make them realize that India is wounded. It needs us, the citizens to come forward and help it. By now, we were clear that we wanted the song to be intense and hard-hitting; an eye-opener! Any 'Jaag jao... Bharat ko bachaao' wouldn't have served the purpose.
Since the film Rann is not about a battle fought on the borders of India but it is about the battle that all of us fight within ourselves, the words were meant to express "There is a battle in the minds of all people" and literally they translated into 'Jana Gann Mana Rann Hai'. This was the birth of this song.
Yes, there is a reference to the respected National Anthem of our country but this song is NOT our National Anthem, nor is it demeaning or insulting it in any way. While the National Anthem speaks about India and Victory, this song talks about the 'need' to achieve that victory by keeping India united today. In fact it reaffirms all the goodness that the National Anthem stands for. But at the end of the day, it is just a song by itself pertaining to the script and the scenes of the film.
How can you call it National Anthem when there are 100 different words used in it? (Yes I counted, 100 words!!)
Kindly go through the lyrics once and decide for yourself if there is any insult to India...
Kindly understand the intent before blindly judging the content...
Kindly ask yourself if you don't really want India to be free from all corruption, bloodshed and destruction...
Kindly be honest...
This song reinforces and urges citizens to respect India, its greatness and it's National Anthem.
If anyone thinks that it is a crime to ask Indians to stand up and help India be the glorious Country that it was, then I have only one thing to say...
"BHARAT KO BACHAA LE VIDHAATA"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 13 May 2009 | 11:25 am RGV goes to Supreme Court against Censor ruling for the Rann songClick above for more movie stills It looks like the intrepid controversy- king Ram Gopal Varma just won't take no for an answer. With the Censor Board removing his subverted version of the National Anthem from Rann and preventing it from being telecast as part of the film's promotions, Ramu isn't getting apologetic nor sitting easy. Today, Varma and producers Madhu Mantena and Sheetal Talwar were supposed to go to the High Court to fight the Censor Board's ruling. But, yesterday afternoon there was a change of plan. The Rann team has now decided to go straight to the Supreme Court to fight for what they think to be their fundamental right to expression. Says co-producer Madhur Mantena, "There has been a change of plan. We were earlier to go to the High Court. We're now moving into the Supreme Court, because our lawyers, Naik & Naik feel we've a very strong case." Says Madhu Mantena, "The Censor Board has prevented us from using the song in the film and for the promotions. They've cited the rule that applies to National emblems and symbols, not the National Anthem. So, we feel that rule cannot be applicable to our song. As far as we know, the rule regarding the National Anthem is that no one can be stopped from singing it." Mantena and his co-producer Sheetal Talwar have registered a civil case in the Mumbai High Court against the censor board's ruling. The Rann team is determined to fight it out to the last. "We've time on our side. We're releasing Rann in October," says Mantena, confidently. However, many elements within the film industry feel that Varma should have desisted from creating a controversial situation with such dangerous subversive undertones in a film where the Big B plays such a pivotal part. "It's an unnecessary burden on his over-burdened sense of commitment to his projects. When its Mr. Bachchan, you've got to be very careful with what goes into his projects because there are political elements waiting to pick holes in what he does," says a filmmaker who's making a film with the Big B. Interestingly, Big B was supposed to sing a song in Rann. But that's no longer happening.Source: Indiafm.com News | 13 May 2009 | 10:55 am
