After director Sam Mendes' spectacular spousal success directing his wife Kate Winslet in the richly resonant Revolutionary Road, in 1-800 Love, John will be romancing his director Abbas Tyrewala's wife.
And he is cool about it. "I know Abbas and Pakhi well. They make a beautiful couple. There's absolutely no awkwardness about doing a love story with the director's wife. Pakhi has co-written the script and knows her character and mine, in and out. She's an unknown face and extremely pretty. These are her biggest advantages. A beautiful woman whom the audience hasn't seen."
John is dead serious about this project. "I'm going to sit on script readings with Abbas, do workshops and rehearsals with Pakhi, just like Abbas did with the cast in Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. I'm hungry for acting challenges. But most of the time my physicality comes on much too strongly on screen. People haven't really seen the performances I'm really proud of, like No Smoking, Kabul Express, Zinda and Aashayein. My physicality always takes precedence. But you know what? I'll change that. I've been in this industry only five years now. People have started looking differently at me after Dostana. The body was talked about. But when they praise my performance it really feels good."
Where next? "Nagesh Kukunoor's Aashayein. I'm very proud of it. Yes, it has been delayed. There's a problem between Reliance and Percept that needs to be sorted. We're working on a solution. Aashayein is a beautiful film and we have to release it. Another film I'm really excited about is Kabir Khan's New York. I know I've got it right this time. Kabir says so. It's an awesome film. And I'm thankful to Aditya Chopra for showing faith in me at a time when I didn't have Dostana."
John describes himself as an off-roader. "I travel my own road. Like I'm doing Abbas Tyrewala's 1-800 Love. When he offered me that film, he was directing Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. The film's producer Madhu Mantena had Ghajini in the making and I was doing Dostana. By God's grace we all have a success on hand. So we're a proud team and very comfortable. It's my intense love story and it's such a wonderful space to be in. Before Dostana, I was only doing films that kept me within my comfort zone. Now I'm going to test myself as an actor as much as possible."
When questioned whether he would feel any awkwardness directing love scenes between his wife and John, Abbas Tyrewala said, "I hope not! If I can't remember they're acting then I lose the moral ground to ever direct a girl in a love scene. Luckily I've never written explicit love scenes in my film. The only explicit love-making scene I've conceived was for Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool. That apart, I like my writing to be benign. It doesn't matter whether my wife is acting or not. I can't forget my parents will be watching my film."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 May 2009 | 10:25 am “I didn’t choose the movie but the movie chose me” – GauriMaking her acting debut with a black and white film Frozen, young and charming actress Gauri’s work has already been appreciated in various international film festivals. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 8 May 2009 | 9:44 am Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! girl in a black comedy
After a wait of nearly six months, Richa Chadda of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! has bagged her first major project. She would be enacting the role of one of the principal protagonists in the film to be directed by writer-turned-director Yunus Sejawal. Though the title is yet to be decided, the film would be a black comedy and would also feature actors of the calibre of Kay Kay Menon and Rajpal Yadav amongst others.
Confirms Richa, "That's true; I have signed on the dotted line for this film and would be beginning to shoot this June. This is going to be a multi track film and in terms of it's structuring, it would be on the lines of Life In A..Metro. In fact we have already started acting workshops."
Richa would be playing a dancer in the film. For the actor who made quite some heads turn with her brief but impressive performance in Oye Lucky! Lycky Oye! , this would make for a double bill. Reason? In the Abhay Deol starrer also, she had played the role of a dancer who performed in Paresh Rawal's troupe. Now in Yunus Sejawal film too she would be seen with her dancing shoes on. So, is she reprising a similar role?
"Certainly not", prompt comes the reply, "However, I am not at liberty to talk more about my role. All I can say is that I chose from the best offers that were coming my way. I had to be very careful though around what I sign since quite a few of them that came my way were getting stereotypical and I wanted to avoid that."
After gaining much appreciation for the character of Dolly that she played in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! , she was also wary of playing any more second lead roles.
"Not that I was hunting for the solo leads films but then I had to have a parallel lead role at least. I didn't want to be slotted in a particular category of roles. This is why I opted for this film since it's an ensemble cast project. Everyone has equal prominence in the film which sets the platform for you to show your worth", says Richa who has been an ex-journalist herself.
This wasn't the first project that came her way though.
"There was another project which I was seriously looking at after Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! I was on for the film but for some reasons it got shelved. These things can't be in anyone's control. All you can do is look forward and pick roles that give you enough scope to perform. I guess I am an intelligent actor enough to read through scripts, ask valid questions and then decide on my films. This is what I am currently doing due to which you won't find me signing films left, right and centre. I would rather wait and pick the best then hurry things up", signs off Richa.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 May 2009 | 9:43 am Sonal Chauhan is John Abraham's girl

Arshad Warsi takes to film production with a unique story in Kaun Bola?. However, he denies donning the director's hat
From a choreographer to an actor and now a producer, you have come a long way. But you have denied taking up direction of films. Why so?
I am not directing any film at the moment but it is a desire that I wish to fulfil some day. I have already started to move towards that direction, by writing my own script as well as reading some stories. But that will take some more time to materialise. I guess I should be ready for direction in a couple of year's time.
Meanwhile, I am happy that Kaun Bola? the first production from my banner; Shooting Stars Productions has shaped up very well.
Kaun Bola? is an intriguing title.
The story of Kaun Bola? is quite unusual. I play this guy who hears and sees dead people. How his interaction with ghosts takes its toll on him is what the film is all about. Hence the title.
Is it a ghost story then?
It is a never-seen-before ghost film that kids will enjoy immensely. I promise they will not get scared as there are some quite enjoyable and hilarious moments. It is a romantic-comedy with a lot of drama in it. You may call it an edge-of-the seat story.
I play the lead alongwith Dia Mirza, Sandhya Mridul, Boman Irani and Engish actress Zehra Jane.
How was your experience being a first time producer?
It was thrilling. The shooting of Kaun Bola? is complete and is in the post-production stages. It is being readied for release during the second half of the year provided the theatre strike is called off before that.
You are an actor first, how different was it to work as a producer?
I had decided that whenever I turn a producer, I would take special care of my team. And I did just that during the shooting of Kaun Bola?.
I have tried to do my best in every possible way. I believe that a film is a visual video and should be pleasing to the eye first. So after a long search, I settled for the virgin locales of New Castle in England. I also believe that if one wants a good project, he has to see to the comfort of his team. From years of working in the film industry, I have seen that when an actor or even a technician, mainly the head of the departments are not in the proper frame of mind, they cannot give the right result. I tried to avoid that by giving my team all that they required.
The cost of shooting for one day in England was Rs 18 lakh. And what happens if the shot is not okayed on that day due to one member of the team falling ill? It is sheer loss of so much money.
What did you do to make them comfortable?
Instead of staying in hotels that were very exhorbitantly priced, I rented some swanking apartments with two-three bedrooms for the two months that we were shooting. All of us took turns to cook for the entire team. It was a de-stressing exercise and after a point each one of us was looking for his turn to enter the kitchen and make some exotic dish. As the producer's wife, Maria was not to be left behind. Every few days she would send some small gifts for all of us from India. I saw to it that the unit had everything they wanted and hence we bonded very well. I treated each one of them the way I would like to be treated by my producers. Another banner that goes all out to treat the unit well is Anil Kapoor Productions. One realises other people's hardships if you are an actor-turned-producer since you have gone through the stress and discomfort yourself while shooting for a film.
You have worked with Dia and Boman in Lage Raho Munnabhai. Did the bonding come from there?
I would rather work with people I am comfortable with. I feel Dia is a very brilliant actress who has not got her due. I realised her acting potential when I was watching the rushes of Lage Raho ⦠with director Rajkumar Hirani. Later she was also a part of Krazzy 4 and that is where we developed our friendship. In Kaun Bola?, you will see her in a different role.
Boman and I go back a long way. He is a fantastic person and a very good human being. Given a chance, I would like to cast the two of them in all my films. I want to have the best of actors and technicians for my projects which is why I selected Dia and Boman for prominent roles. For camerawork, I got talented Ashok Mehta, music has been composed by the brilliant trio - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by the eminent Javed Akhtar. Special effects have been done by Red Chillies. I feel when one has the best of the lot; they have to be utilised in the best possible way. I always say my producers, 'If you have me in your film, make full use of my talent'.
What about Zehra?
I became her fan after watching her in Goal. She played my wife in it.
Kaun Bola? has been directed by Kabir Kaushik who directed you earlier in Sehar.
Yes, Kabir is a very talented director and a go-getter. He doesn't stop till he extracts the best from his actors. Besides being romantic, Kaun Bola? has a lot of drama and some tricky scenes. And Kabir is very good at handling them.
Now that your first film is almost ready, what are the forthcoming plans of your production company?
I am already working on the screenplay for my next which is going to be an action film. After that, I want to try my hand at a thriller and then a children's film. I don't want to restrict myself to a certain slot. I believe in experimenting.
And of your acting assignments, which is the one you are looking forward to?
In fact, all of them. Anil Kapoor Productions' Shortcut is a great film. And mine is a role that the film industry will identify with and journalists will love it. I play an actor who doesn't know to act. He cannot remember his lines and has two left feet when it comes to dance yet he throws tantrums on the sets and ill-treats everybody. Everyone hates him. When I was narrated this role, I loved it and when I was shooting for it, I would just crack up each time as it is quite hilarious.
In Ishqiya, I play a guy from Bhopal who alongwith Naseeruddin Shah is a small-time crook always running away from cops. I had to speak in a different dialect and was fortunate to pick the language quickly, much to everyone's delight. The film has a Vishal Bhardwaj feel to it since he is the producer. It is raw, real and very touching. The director of this film Abhishek Chauhan is a talented man and trust me, people will talk about his work for a very long time.
Now that you have your goals set, are you happy with the way your career is shaping up?
Surely. The three films that I have mentioned are all different from each other and I have also turned producer.
Do you feel proud when you are addressed as 'Circuit' even today?
I hate it (laughs) though it was my idea to name the character so.
Coming back to Kaun Bola?, when are you planning to release it?
I am looking at July-August.
After being a very prominent character in most of Rohit Shetty's films especially Golmaal and Golmaal Returns, you are not doing his next. Why?
Because Rohit didn't ask me though I have nothing against anyone.

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 7 May 2009 | 3:43 pm Onir extends a unique offer, makes audiences shareholders in his next
In one of the most unique offers laid out by a filmmaker, Onir has extended a chance for audiences to be shareholders for his short story Abhimanyu which would form a part of the 'five-short-stories-in-one-movie' that he is beginning to shoot soon. Though there have been a few promotional offers in the past ('Sit through the film alone and you could get five lakhs', 'Get your money back if you don't like the film' etc. etc.), the concept of audiences being shareholders is something new in Bollywood parlance. Though in West, some independent filmmakers have laid out such plans while accumulating funds for their films, it is the first ever by a known filmmaker in Bollywood.
"Yes, this is a new concept in India but I think it will catch up soon considering the advent of independent filmmakers. I look forward to individuals, corporate houses and NGOs who believe in the importance of Abhimanyu and have trust in our intentions to come out and support our endeavour by contributing to it in terms of monetary help. Abhimanyu is the story of a child abuse survivor and I am aiming at collecting Rs. 30 lakhs to make this film happen", says Onir who has taken a step forward in bringing forth important issues that have not been addressed in Indian mainstream cinema.
This is how the contribution will pay dividends for those who invest in the film/contribute to it:
Rs 5000 to Rs 25, 000 will be regarded with contributor's name in the end credit roll.
Rs 25000 to Rs 100,000 will be returned at the time of the release of the film and with acknowledgement in the end credits.
Rs 100,000 to Rs 15, 00,000 will get credits in the beginning titles of the film and proportionate share in the profits
Onir is mighty excited about beginning to shoot for the film ASAP and is already targeting June for the first schedule to begin.
"My research tells me that in India, every one out of five girl child and every one out of ten boys faces some form of abuse. But the society and law at large is not still vocal enough and addressing the issue. Most incidents of the crime do not get reported, hence leaving behind a traumatized and mute innocence to suffer. The heinous crime not only jeopardizes the present of a child but also disturbs the entire growth process of an individual", says Onir in a hurt tone.
"My idea is to make available each film for educational / awareness purposes and at the same time be put together and released as a single film. At the end of the day, it is important for the normal cinema going audience to see this film. You never know, tomorrow Abhimanyu could be your own child", concludes Onir.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 May 2009 | 3:06 pm Danny came to rescue when Om Puri & Naseeruddin Shah refused Frozen

Frozen, a Black & White film shot in Ladakh, is finally seeing a release in India this May. Though Danny Denzongpa towers the cast of this experimental film, not many are aware that Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah had also been approached for the same role. Though they rejected this film due to various reasons, Frozen still got made with Danny agreeing to play the part of lead protagonist Karma.
Says producer and director Shivajee Chandrabhushan, "Initially, my production house had approached both Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah for the role of Karma, a frail old man in the mountains of Ladakh. However, none of the two could do the film. While Om Puri had problems with the climate, which was that of extreme cold, Naseeruddin Shah was busy with his directorial debut Yun Hota To Kya Hota."
Apparently, Om Puri had just returned from the shoot of Lakshya where he had to bear the brunt of extreme climatic conditions and hence was wary of shooting in mountains again. "It was his graciousness that rather than coming up with a blunt 'No' for an answer, he attempted to state his reason behind his refusal to be a part of Frozen" says Shivajee. "He had an issue with the month in which the film was supposed to be shot but I couldn't adjust my schedule since I wanted a particular weather condition as per the demand of the script."
To Shivajee's good fortune, there was no stopping the film as Danny came to rescue. "Danny saab had the script of my film and he was happy with what he read. I had also sent him a book with some Black & White photographs that I had clicked during my Ladakh recce. That further helped him realise my vision for the film. He was on board in quick time and we embarked on a 28 days start to finish schedule of the film", divulges Shivajee.
After a few forgettable outings in films like Karzzzz, Chamku and Big Brother, one hopes that Danny has sunk his teeth into something really worthwhile in Frozen. Some of the other films in which Danny would be seen in months to come are Acid Factory, Teen Patti and Luck.
Shivajee is ecstatic though about his choice of actor, "Danny saab has turned out to be the best fit for the character. Forget about the looks factor that so much suited the film; even other than that, he is the most fabulous actor from his generation. In those 28 days of shooting schedule, I saw so much of him and ended up learning a lot about him."
Frozen depicts the life of a family whose dream like existence is interrupted by inevitable odds, one after the other. Made in Hindi and Ladakhi, the film was shot at an average height of 12000 feet above sea level in Ladakh. The film has received 18 highly acclaimed awards and has toured 30 international film festivals.
The film also stars Shilpa Shukla of Chak De India fame along with Yashpal Sharma, Raj Zutshi, Aamir Bashir, Shakeel Khan and Denzil Smith.
Ready for last two years, Frozen will finally release in theatres on 8th May in spite of stand off between producers and multiplexes. Interestingly, the film would be seeing a staggered release. While in Mumbai the film will be screened beginning 8th May, in other cities it would arrive on later dates.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 May 2009 | 3:00 pm Eight days, 50 rallies for Ravi Kishan

Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan is the name of this month's cover-boy of the latest edition of GQ. Surprised? Well, that's what the full name of the 'Meteoric Superstar' Irrfan Khan is, who looks minty cool as cucumber on the GQ cover.
In this issue, Irrfan speaks about his smoking and drinking habits and also about his hurt ankle. Not just that, he also shares with the readers all about his dreams (which includes sex). There's a little secret also that he shares with the readers about him asking a sex-related question to someone special in his life. We will not like to spill the beans by naming that person, as its there in the magazine. He also speaks about his life after Slumdog Millionaire, his future projects, his take on big mainstream Bollywood stars, his 'dream character' etc...
