Mugdha Godse gets injured in a road accident

Mugdha Godse Download image as wallpaper Now this ain't what you want to hear first thing during the afternoon. After hearing stories about Mugdha Godse doing rounds that she was the first choice after Neetu Chandra got cast in Ram Gopal Varma's Rann, we decided to call the actress to confirm the news. 'Yes' came the reply. Of course, RGV seems to be too fascinated with Madhur Bhandarkar's dusky beauties, and why not. Mugdha replied back to us half an hour back saying that she was busy travelling at the moment and would chat in detail once she reaches her destination Pune. But as she was on her way to meet her parents, a near fatal accident happened on the Mumbai-Pune express highway where her car got hit by another car. We have confirmed just a while back that Mugdha Godse's driver was lucky not to have hurt himself as he pulled the brakes on time. But the sad part is that Mughs has got a few bruises on her hand and feet and is in pain. The actress left early morning today and decided to have a nap in the back seat and before she could understand what happened, in no time a big crash was heard which made the actress propel forward with a bad jerk. On getting in touch with Mugdha, she said, "I am fine but have bruised my hands badly. I am slowly getting to feel the pain from my neck too. It's badly injured. Thank God, nothing has happened to my driver and me. We both are safe but the car is completely out of shape." She added further, "I was on my way to meet my mom and dad before I start my third film All The Best. I just thought of paying them a visit as I did not get much time while I was shooting for Jail." However, in spite of an accident like this which could've turned fatal (touchwood it didn't), before she hung up the phone on us, the ever smiling actress put a smile on our face by saying, "Well, this is just another excuse I've got to buy myself a new car this summer." We at Bollywood Hungama wish Mugdha Godse a speedy recovery and hope she finds herself a sparkling new car soon. All the Best Mughs!

John, Priyanka and Ashutosh Rana in Alibaba and the 41 Thieves

Soumitra Ranade UTV's 3D animation fantasy Alibaba And The 41 Thieves - the story of a boy who gets embroiled in the legendary Arabic tussle - is currently under production at Chennai based Accel Animation Studios and is expected to be ready by the year end. Written and directed by Soumitra Ranade of Jajantaram Mamantram fame, the film boasts of a voice cast including John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra, Ashutosh Rana, Atul Kulkarni, Saurabh Shukla and others. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Soumitra shares his vision behind the film and tells us why he believes animation will catch on as a medium of storytelling. Tell us about the Alibaba And The 41 Thieves. I have taken the legendary Arabian tale of 'Alibaba And The 40 Thieves' and added a modern angle to it, wherein a kid from Mumbai reaches the fantasy land. The film is about his interaction with Alibaba (John Abraham) and the villain Abu Hasan (Ashutosh Rana), the evil and brutal leader of the 40 thieves. You have assembled a star-studded voice cast for the film. We have John Abraham as Alibaba, Priyanka Chopra as Marjinah; Ashutosh Rana, Atul Kulkarni, Raza Murad, Saurabh Shukla and Mukesh Tiwari. In fact, the voice-overs are the first thing we finished, as they have to be complete for the animation to begin. Animation is a new medium for the Indian audience and filmmakers. It will take a while to catch on In your opinion, is the Indian movie-goer warming up to animation? Yes. It is true that some recent films have not worked, but there are other smaller projects that have. Animation is a new medium for the Indian audience and filmmakers. It will take a while to catch on. Anyway I am used to this cynicism. When I was making Jajantaram Mamantram, a lot of mainstream Hindi film producers laughed at me and ridiculed me. They thought children's films were the sole responsibility of CFSI. Why would anyone in his right mind want to make a film for children? They wondered. Besides the obvious need for indigenous children's films they completely missed the commercial angle. Today children's entertainment is one of the biggest industries in the world. Animation will arrive here in India too...it HAS to. That's the historical inevitability. Alibaba has a strong script and we are pretty confident about the output What is Alibaba's USP? Every film needs a good script. The rest depends on how you transform the script into the moving image. If you are able to do that successfully, then you have a good film on hand. Alibaba has a strong script and we are pretty confident about the output. Animation, in this case, is just a form of storytelling. What is the visual treatment for the film, given its Arabian moorings? Animation does need a lot of detailing. We have, in our attempt to model a fantasy Arabian world, created extensive architecture, costumes and make-up for the characters. The Islamic/Arabic look-and-feel is one space which has not been explored much internationally, besides a few films like Aladdin, etc. We have used motion capture for the film. This technology gives you the realism of the human body and abstraction of animation. It's a wonderful form and only about ten films in the world till date have used this technology as extensively as we have. Making any animation film is not an easy task. In Alibaba, we are attempting something that hasn't yet been achieved in India and will not be repeated at least for a few more years. We have used motion capture for the film What is the producer's involvement in the project? UTV is an amazing production house. Once they take on a project, they believe in it completely. In the last few years they are the ones who have given us Rang De Basanti, Jodhaa Akbar, Aamir, A Wednesday and Dev D besides so many other very interesting and commercially viable films. They give you adequate creative space. There is a certain civility with which they make their films. And believe me they will make a serious mark in animation too. Both Alibaba and Arjun are very high end films not just formally but more importantly content wise. Are you working on any other projects? Alibaba is keeping me busy right now, though it's impossible to keep your mind away from new stories. One is obviously thinking of the next one. Your expectations from the film? Superhit.

Shantaram author asks Irrfan Khan for an autograph on his GQ copy

A very unlikely candidate for a cover-boy, but yet, he did it and how! We are indeed talking about the 'won and only' Irrfan Khan, who is THE cover-boy of the latest issue of GQ. Having silently maneuvered his way through films, theatre and television, Irrfan Khan is today a household name, more so in Hollywood than on the home turf. At the release function of the issue, it was delightful to see Irrfan Khan being surrounded by a bunch of his fanbase that has been on a meteoric rise ever since Slumdog Millionaire. What was really heartening to see was the presence of Gregory David Roberts 2, the famed author of Shantaram. The reason? Well, the down-to-earth author had come there for an autograph from the cover-boy and the latter instantly obliged. Indeed a proverbial Kodak moment for one and all! With Irrfan on the cover, one can very simply say that 'The book can surely be judged by its cover'.

Check out Ranbir Kapoor's look in YRF's Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year

David Ogilvy once said, "In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can also sell what you create. Management cannot be expected to recognize a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman". So who's the salesman of the year then? Yash Raj Films or Ranbir Kapoor? Anyway, the first look of Ranbir Kapoor in Yash Raj Films' forthcoming film, Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year is out and how! Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year went on floors on May 2, 2009. This marks the coming together once again of the Chak De India Director/Writer combination of Shimit Amin & Jaideep Sahni in a funny and exhilarating coming off age movie, set in the new Indian economy. The extremely popular and talented Ranbir Kapoor plays the lead role, as the salesman of the year. The film is set to release in December 2009. What's interesting is the fact that Yash Raj Films is known to be highly secretive about their projects, especially the look of their characters, till the penultimate month. Now if this film is ready to hit the theatres only in December, it's surprising to know what made YRF release the look of Ranbir Kapoor in Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year, five months prior to the release. Besides, this is probably the first time that the director and writer of an YRF film are also being projected in the film publicity material. Whatever be the reason, we are happy getting a sneak peek at Ranbir's look. The actor looks like a pukka Sardar in this get up and kudos to the make up artist. As for the film, well we can completely trust Shimit and Jaideep on that. What say?

Boney Kapoor, Satish Kaushik re-shoot portions of Kareena-Shahid starrer

Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor Click above for more movie stills It's an all-out war to make Shahid-Kareena's last film together (at least for a while), a worthy farewell. Boney Kapoor, who has three films including Wanted (featuring Salman Khan) and It's My Life (with Hurman Baweja in his comeback role) ready for release, is at the moment focusing entirely on giving Milenge Milenge a 2009 look. And for this purpose the Milenge Milengecrew recently slipped into Delhi to re-shoot portions of the film that might have got dated. Says the film's director Satish Kaushik, "Yes, we have re-shot portions of Milenge Milenge in Delhi. The entire film is set in Delhi, just like my other hit film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai with Kareena. In fact, I was supposed to do another film with Kareena (Dil Chor with Abhishek Bachchan) for Boney. Instead we did Milenge Milenge." Interestingly, it was Kareena who recommended Shahid for the role. But her personal relationship never interfered with the project. Explains Satish, "Both Kareena and Shahid have been complete professionals. If Milenge Milenge has taken so long to be completed, it's not because of the artistes. Everything from my personal family problems to Tsunami happened to Milenge Milenge. One schedule in Bangkok got cancelled at the last minute. Tsunami struck and everyone got washed away in the tides where we were supposed to shoot. If the film could survive Tsunami, what's a bit of negativity about a delayed project? Pakeezah and Mughal-e-Azam were in the making for decades." Another Tsunami hit Milenge Milenge when Salman Khan who was supposed to make a special appearance opted out because he discovered he couldn't get along with Shahid Kapoor. Far from putting the project on the back burner, producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik are more determined than ever before to release Milenge Milenge, which is their version of Peter Chelsom's 2001 rom-com Serendipity, this summer. The Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor starrer is about two people involved elsewhere who after a chance encounter decide to give their feeling for one another a chance to grow.

"I'd never do a nude scene" - Kangna Ranaut

Download image as wallpaper The forever-flighty Kangna Ranaut returned to Mumbai from a grueling month-long shooting of a Telugu film to horrifying rumours of how she had done a nude scene down South. Kangna is enraged. "Nude? I'd never do a nude scene in my entire life even if someone makes me to do it at gun point. I come from a very conservative background. If my parents were to ever see that I've crossed the line of morality, they'd drag me back to Himachal. Yes, I've done aesthetically-shot pictures which reveal my physique. And why not? I've worked really hard on getting my body muscular and toned." But nudes? "No way. I've never posed in the nude, never will, no matter how right the zeroes on the cheque are. I've an inbuilt censor code." So how did these rumours of going 'all the way' start? "You tell me. Journalists started calling up my Telugu director Puri Jagannath in Hyderabad while we were shooting. He, poor man, was so scandalized he almost had a heart attack. Puri is one of the most successful and respected filmmakers of Telugu cinema." Clarifying that there are no nude sequences in the Telugu film Kangna says, "Even the much-hyped 'nude' scene in Raaz 2 was a hoax. I wore a body suit in the bath tub. I don't think taking off all of one's clothes is a cool thing to do." Kangna is back in Mumbai for a couple of days only for costume and makeup trials for Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. "I play the only glamour element in the otherwise-dark film. This would be my most glamorous role. My look has to go from the late 1960s to the 1970s." Kangna's clothes are being done by Manoshi Nath who did the 'stylized' look on Dibakar Banerjee's Oye Lucky! Luck Oye! Says Kangna, "The challenge in Ekta's film is to look glamorous without any body exposure. I think it's possible."

"Who called me Hemu?" - Hema Malini

Hema Malini While campaigning for her parent-party - the BJP in Darjeeling on Sunday, Hema Malini had a strange experience. While passing through a snaky mountainous road, waving and cheering to crowds of fans, Hema suddenly heard a man's voice in the crowds call out her pet name 'Hemu'. Hema was stunned. "Just a few people very close to me call me that. I haven't heard anyone outside my family address me as 'Hemu'. When I heard that name being called out in the crowd I quickly turned around to see who it was. But the man had vanished. Woh parbaton mein kho gaya (he disappeared in the mountains)." Since that old private name has been called out in the wilderness, Hema is haunted by the unique experience of the warm intimacy of a stranger reaching out to her in a crowd. "It was like someone I knew in the past calling out to me." Hema says she longs for people around her to loosen up and be relaxed with her. "After so many years in the film industry, I'm tired of being called 'Hemaji' all the time. So boring! Not that I want strangers and acquaintances to act over-familiar with me. But there's a fun side to me which only those very close to me know. When I'm with my daughters on a holiday, I become one of the girls instead of their mother." At 60, Hema remains unimpressed by her aura. "I've been campaigning round the clock for my party and I am amazed that people still come in droves to see me when I am no longer that beautiful. But that aura you talk about bores me. I want to have fun. Instead of Hemaji, I want to be Hemu."

'99' not this Friday

Click above for more movie stills Here's piping hot news! Anupam Mittal and Aditya Shastri, the producers of 99, are in the midst of a storm. The duo had decided to defy the producers and distributors' directive [of not releasing a film until and unless the terms with multiplexes are settled] by releasing the film this Friday [8th May]. In fact, several industry people spoke to the two producers, telling them in very clear words that this tantamounts to revolting against the film trade associations, but to no avail. The producers had even issued ads in the papers, announcing the release date of the film. Till Monday morning, the producers of 99 were firm on releasing the film this Friday, but it has been decided to push the film ahead by one week. The producers are planning to release the film on 15th May. What happened? "We've been in talks with several industry leaders since the past few days and today [Monday], Ratan Jain [President of A.M.P.T.P.P., the producers' association] also called from Singapore [he's shooting DE DHANA DHAN with Akshay - Katrina there], requesting us to abide by the rules. That's when we decided to push the film ahead by one week," producer Anupam Mittal confirms. Anupam continues in the same breath, "I made it clear to Ratan-ji that we've made the film specifically keeping the IPL in kind. Our film has a cricket backdrop and hence, it's timely and topical, given the fact that the matches are currently being played in South Africa. What's more, an incident that occurred in South Africa in 1999 has also been incorporated in our movie. There's no way out for us." But going against the film industry is just not done. "I am all for solidarity. I sincerely believe that the associations are fighting for a cause and I stand by them completely. But what I can do is push the film by one week, not beyond that. I am helpless. I explained my stand to Ratan-ji too," Anupam states. Anupam adds, "Everyone feels that the matters [producers versus multiplexes] would get sorted out in the next couple of days. But even if the strike isn't called off, I would go ahead with its release next week. I can't wait till the next big cricket event takes place to release my film."

'Maruti Mera Dosst' is no kiddie film

Abhimanyu Singh's Contiloe Films has produced several successful television shows and the enterprising producer has now forayed into feature films. Abhimanyu, the youngest brother of actor Chandrachur Singh, has completed his first feature film MARUTI MERA DOSST and is in the thick of his second film, the 3D animation MAHAYODHA RAMA. "MARUTI MERA DOSST is no kiddie film. It's a film that would appeal to kids and adults alike," Abhimanyu states. The film is a live-animation feature, an experiment that hasn't really worked in the past. "That's because the story and animation were of poor quality. The biggest of hits in Hollywood have been animation films. If it can work there, why not here? It's a matter of time," Abhimanyu states confidently. MARUTI MERA DOSST signals the return of actor Chandrachur Singh, after a hiatus. "Every actor reaches a stage in life when he feels he needs to take a break, recharge his batteries and return rejuvenated. Perhaps, Chandrachur experienced that phase too. As for his performance in MARUTI MERA DOSST, I feel he's enacted the role with flourish. He's simply remarkable in my film," he says.

Vivek Sharma signs Big B

Amitabh Bachchan BHOOTHNATH and KAL KISSNE DEKHA director Vivek Sharma has turned producer. The talented director has floated his production company -- Film Zone -- and the first film to be produced by this concern is BUDDHAM SHARANAM GACHHAMI. Now here's the latest on the project: Vivek has signed Amitabh Bachchan to enact the central role. "Yes, Amit-ji is on board," Vivek confirms the development. What prompted him to turn producer so early in his career? "I was always keen to make certain films independently. I wish to have the creative freedom when I make these films and the only way to do so is by producing it yourself. So here I am, in the producers' arena," Vivek smiles. Vivek is gung ho about the subject of this film. "Amit-ji was floored when he read the script. BUDDHAM SHARANAM GACHHAMI is the kind of film that would take Indian films to the global platform," Vivek sounds confident. The film is expected to star several prominent names that are currently under finalization. BUDDHAM SHARANAM GACHHAMI is about violence. It talks of people taking to violence and becoming hardened criminals.

Spotted: Saif and Kareena on the sets of Rensil D' Silva's untitled film

Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor While the whole nation seems to be engrossed with the IPL matches, love-birds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are far away in USA busy shooting for Rensil D' Silva's untitled film. This is one film, whose every single detail including its plot; locations, music, and even the name of the film itself are being safeguarded more vigilantly than even the Swiss Bank's accounts. That's the reason why Bollywood Hungama was not just pleasantly surprised, but also shocked to the core when we got the following pictures that were sent to us by one of our regular users/ readers. Trust us, the pics were so interesting read 'tempting') that we just couldn't resist ourselves sharing it with you. Kareena Kapoor From the looks of it, the duo seems to be shooting for some carnival scene, what with all the balloons and festive atmosphere. The US flag can also be seen making it's presence felt as most of the film has been shot in USA. Also one can't help but notice Chhote Nawab and Bebo's chemistry on the sets of the film. The duo seems to be content in each other's company oblivious to the surroundings. Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan While there have been rumours that the film is titled Jihaad, both director Rensil and producer Karan Johar have denied the same. One will have to wait till the makers announce the title. Apart from Saif and Kareena, Vivek Oberoi also plays an important role in this flick though, he is nowhere to be seen during the filming of this scene.

Big B and Shah Rukh visit Adnan Sami's ailing father

Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan The Big B's visit to Adnan Sami's ailing father at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital on Thursday evening has triggered off the industry's A-Listers' conscience. On Friday, barely 24 hours after the Big B, Adnan's father Arshad Sami Khan was surprised to see another superstar-guest walk in. It was Shah Rukh Khan whom Adnan's father has almost adopted as a distant son in his heart. Explains Adnan, "Shah Rukh resembles Dilip Kumar Saab so much. And Dilip Saab whom we call Yusuf Lala is not just a favourite of our family but also a relative. So to us Shah Rukh is a direct descendent of Yusuf Lala's heritage." The frail ailing Arshad Sami could barely speak but uttered two words, "Veer Zara". This was the former Pakistani diplomat's way of recalling the SRK film that did its substantial bit to improve relations between the two countries. Says Adnan emotionally, "I missed both Bachchan Saab and Shah Rukh by minutes. But at least my mother was there when Shah Rukh so graciously visited with his daughter. My father couldn't recall the names of all the Bachchan and SRK films he had seen except Veer Zara." The hugest moment post- Mr Bachchan's visit was a call from Rajesh Khanna. Says Adnan, "I've seen his Prem Nagar at least a million times. When he called and spoke such wonderful words of consolation-'God is there for everyone I'm sure he's there for you too'-I was overwhelmed." The other dream come true was a call from Saira Banu. "Mr Dilip Kumar whom I call Yusuf Lala and Sairaji are relatives. I envy Yusuf Lala for a wife who's so devoted and for so long." The Kokilaben hospital is suddenly a beehive of Bollywood activities. On Thursday Mr. Bachchan dropped into see Karan Johar's mom who underwent neuro-surgery, Dimple Kapadia's sister Simple who's critically ill, Adnan's father and Prakash Mehra. In fact Mehra is an ICU flank next to Adnan's father. When Adnan got to know that the man who created some of Adnan's favourite childhood celluloid fantasies with Big B was lying ill in the room next to his father, he did what any sensitive person would. Says Adnan, "I walked into Prakashji's ICU to quietly take his blessings. But what do you know! He recognized me in that condition and did the popular hand movement from my song 'Lift Kara De' with the Big B. It was his utterly endearing gesture of acknowledging me and my love for the movies that he did with the Big B. At times like these, being in the hospital is no more an acknowledgement of mortality. It becomes a celebration of life."

Neil and Celina perform deadly stunts and blow up cars at a wedding

Neil Nitin Mukesh, Celina Jaitly At an event that was a follow up to the wedding of builder Kanti Govani's nephew, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Celina Jaitly not just matched dance steps on stage but also blasted a few cars and then finally set the stage on fire. "It was as action packed as it gets. Seriously, I have never been a part of an event like this so hats off to GS Entertainment who put together this show", says Celina Jaitly, who finally got an opportunity to kick her action boots. "I was required to take out my gun and shoot at seven cars filled with dynamite. Even though it was all choreographed and utmost care was being taken for the safety of people in and around the stage, it was quite fearsome at the end of the day." There was a global technical team put in place for the choreography of this special segment that featured not just action and fireworks but also some thumping chartbusters from Dhoom and Golmaal Returns. Informs a technician, who helped put together things in place for the show, "There were stuntmen from Australia, dancers from Russia, pyro-technicians from London, and of course a horde of other performers and technicians from India - it was a truly global event. The production values were of a scale similar to the kind that is seen in shows by Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. No wonder, Shah Rukh Khan too agreed to perform at the wedding." Neil Nitin Mukesh too could hardly conceal his excitement, "This musical-action choreography was the first of its kind in India. I give all the credit for this great evening to Bunty and Jaspreet Walia who put this unimaginable show together. Not to forget Pappu and Malu, our choreographers." "This was simply crazy", adds Celina, "I had to arrive on a bike which was being driven by a professional stuntman. He just made it jump so high and my heart was almost in my mouth. Add it to all the fire around me. The good part though is that even when I was scared at least at the beginning of the performance, the audiences thoroughly enjoyed the show." Was Neil scared as well? "One is always scared when there are cars blowing up around you, especially so when you have to press the trigger", agrees Neil, "However, the good part is that a lot of safety precautions were taken during the act that made it a smooth flow of events. The icing on the cake was the last act that required me to blast the entire stage. Now that was something!"
