Bollywood Stars who gave Voting Day a miss

Hema Malini Thursday (30th April) saw quite a few Bollywood bigwigs take out time from their busy schedule to cast their vote for the Elections. The ballot centres in Bandra, Juhu and Andheri areas of Mumbai saw stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, the Bachchan parivaar, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar etc. troop in to cast their vote. However, there were quite a few B-town celebs, who in spite of being pretty active in asking people to vote decided to give the V-Day (Voting Day) a miss themselves. Bollywood Hungama brings you a list of a few Bollywood stars 'Jo Bolte Kuch Hai Aur Karte Kuch Hain' Kareena Kapoor Kareena was part of the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani encouraging citizens to go and vote. However, when the V-day came, Bebo was nowhere in the picture. Apparently, Kareena is shooting for Karan Johar's production along with Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi in the US of A and hence couldn't make it. Well, that certainly doesn't count as an excuse cos if Aamir and Shah Rukh could fly down from US and South Africa respectively for casting their Vote, Kareena surely could have. This is one Tashan of Bebo which failed to impress us one bit. Shahid Kapoor Shahid Kapoor Kareena's once-upon-a- time 'good friend' Shahid Kapoor also didn't make it to cast his Vote and this despite him being in town. We really don't know the reason why but considering Shahid's 'good friend' Priyanka Chopra was also missing, we cant help but wonder if they were upto something Chup Chup Ke. Priyanka Chopra Priyanka Chopra Priyanka Chopra was full of emotions encouraging people to go and vote in the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani. However, when the V-Day came, the actress was conspicuous by her absence. PC…we all are keen to know more on What's your Reason rather than What's Your Raashee? Salman Khan Salman Khan Sallu was here, there and everywhere during the pre-election campaigning; hence it was indeed extremely surprising that the actor after encouraging people to go and Vote decided to give V-day a miss himself. The actor apparently was busy shooting in London for his film Veer at a time when he was most 'Wanted' in Mumbai to cast his vote. Imran Khan Imran Khan It was Imran Khan who came up with the idea of making a special video asking people to vote. Imran along with Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani gathered some of B-town's biggest stars for this initiative but when it was his time to Vote, Imran himself couldn't get his finger inked. The Reason: Imran was not eligible as he is an American citizen. Poor Imran indeed couldn't practice what he preached so hard. Preity Zinta & Shilpa Shetty Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta Bollywood beauties Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty also didn't make it to cast their vote. They were busy cheering their respective teams 'Kings XI Punjab' and 'Rajasthan Royals' at the on-going IPL matches in South Africa. Looks like they didn't realize that the opportunity to vote comes only once in 5 years unlike the IPL which is an annual event Asin, Deepika Padukone Deepika Padukone and Asin The South Indian babes Deepika Padukone and Asin couldn't vote in Mumbai as Deepika is originally from Bangalore while Asin is from Kerala. Hope these two beauties at least have voted in their respective home town. Akshay Kumar Akshay Kumar Akki was among the other B-town celebs who gave Voting a miss. The star was busy shooting for Priyadarshan's film De Dhana Dhan in Singapore. Akki when you can travel from Chandni Chowk to China in 3 hours you surely could have come down from Singapore to Mumbai and exercised your right to vote as a responsible citizen. Kajol, Ajay Devgan Ajay Devgan and Kajol Probably the biggest shocker comes in the form of Ajay Devgan and Kajol who were busy holidaying in Goa and didn't find it necessary to come down and cast their vote. Ajay what's the point in doing a film on Rajniti when you can't even come and vote for the leaders in whose hands lies the future of our country?

"Voting for the first time was an exhilarating experience" - Amrita Rao

Amrita RaoShocking as it may sound, Amrita Rao who has been in two of the most successful films of the decade -Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na and Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah and whose success rate and iconic status is certainly higher than most of her contemporaries, was not asked to be part of the Karan Johar-Tarun Mansukhani's Vote Aapke Haath Mein Hai campaign. When asked about this surprising omission Amrita laughs away the query. "You'll have to ask them why I wasn't part of it." Amrita, it would seem, has antagonized the Johar-Chopra's by refusing to do Bachna Ae Haseeno. She was offered the role that Minissha Lamba finally did. Says Amrita, "I won't say I'm tired of playing the sweet girl next-door who looks at life each day with wide-eyed wonder. But I do crave for a change of image. In my next release Short Cut I play a very glamorous girl. For the first time, I'm being dressed up by Manish Malhotra. That does say something about the characters I've played so far. So yes I declined Bachna Ae Haeseeno. I couldn't relate to the character." Amrita Rao No one says no to a Yash Chopra presentation. Amrita's behaviour was secretly described as "high-handed" and "reckless". And now she was refused a place among Bollywood's 30-minus icons in Karan Johar's voting-awareness film although everyone from Kareena Kapoor to Ritesh Deshmukh featured in it. Not that Amrita was brooding over being left out. On Thursday Amrita Rao voted for the first time. So excited was she by the prospect of casting her vote that she reached the polling booth even before the gates had opened. "At 7 am I was the first voter at the booth in the municipal school in Mahim. I feel so proud of being able to vote for the first time. I keep looking at the black mark on my finger proudly. For years I envied that tell-tale mark on my parents' finger." Amrita's chosen candidate had to fulfill three prerequisites. "He had to be well-educated, young though not inexperienced, and without a criminal background." Interestingly she says she attained a voting consciousness from an electorally-galvanizing website jaagore.com.

"Feroz Khan was the first and last man who called me 'Baby'" - Hema Malini

Hema Malini Hema, busy on the campaign trail, catches her breath to remember Feroz Khan with much warmth and joy. "He was the first and last man who called me 'Baby'. No one has ever dared to call me that. I wish they would. What a suave man he was. When I agreed to do Dharmatma he made it very clear that I was there in the first-half of the film only. He said, 'You can't say no, Baby!' That was a new experience for me. My mother was more shocked than I was. With everyone addressing me as 'ji' it feels nice if someone comes up with a term of endearment. Earlier this week, I was in Darjeeling campaigning when someone from the crowd shouted out 'Hemu' and disappeared into the mountains. I felt good because that's what my near and dear ones call me." Feroz calling Hema 'Baby' was not the only change that Feroz Khan brought. "He decided to take on the challenge of making me look more glamorous and sensuous than ever before. That was a tough job because I was constantly fighting to cover myself up more than those costumes by Parmeshwar Godrej allowed. I don't think I've ever used so many safety pins in my entire lifetime. He wanted me to be as uninhibited as today's heroines. That wasn't possible for me." Hema shot in Afghanistan for Feroz Khan's Dharmatma. "I don't think any film unit had gone there before. It was a memorable experience. And we really had to rough it out. It was freezing cold in Kabul. We had to stay in tents. In the evenings we'd all sit together and prepare for the next day's scenes. Otherwise after shooting, I always kept to myself. But he persuaded not just me but also my mother to join the unit in the evening. 'Come on, Mom. Join us.' he used to say. My mother was taken aback. We're basically very shy people. But he'd make her part of the discussions. That's the way to make films. One gets so charged and enthusiastic. I wish Feroz Khan and I had done more films together."

Kangna and Sushmita play sisters in Anees Bazmee's No Problem

Kangna Ranaut, Sushmita Sen Kangna intends to have a ball on the sets of her first comedy film No Problem "So far I've never had fun on the sets. All the characters I've played have been introverted and troubled. So I've been in my shell. During Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar used to scold me for being in a shell all the time. But if I play insecure paranoid characters I can't be laughing and playing around. It was the nature of the characters. For Anees Bazmee's film I'm changing completely. I'm going to organize parties on the sets, constantly crack Santa-Banta jokes and most important of all, I will bond with Sushmita. Hopefully our bonding will last beyond one film." After signing a film together, Sushmita Sen has taken the lovely Kangna Ranaut under her wings. Always known to be warm towards her co-stars, Sushmita has taken a special fancy to Kangana because of her facial resemblance to Sushmita's daughter Renee. Says Kangna, "On the first day that we met, we struck a special chord in each other's hearts. I was standing at a premiere and she came up to me. She held my face in her hands and said I've hair exactly like her daughter and that whenever she saw me she was reminded of her daughter. From that moment onwards we bonded. Luckily I play Sushmita's sister in the film that we're doing together. I love calling her Didi." Kangna is pleased as hell to be finally doing comedy. "I was really hurt when people said I was destined only to play tragic roles. I wanted to do comedy for the longest time. And that I've Sushmita playing my sister in the film is an added bonus. We'll have a ball playing sisters." The film is Anees Bazmee's comedy No Problem produced by Anil Kapoor. Says Kangna, "I had decided whenever I do my first comedy it would have to be either with Anees Bazmee or David Dhawan. Everyone thought I was wrong for the part in No Problem. No one was convinced I could do comedy, not after playing all those traumatized roles. But Anilji convinced everyone that I could do it."

"It's not yet decided who will play Suri in Rakta Charitra" - Ram Gopal Varma

Ram Gopal Verma Ok, so by now everyone is aware that Vivek Oberoi is doing the role of Paritala Ravi in Ram Gopal Varma's ambitious venture Rakta Charitra. However, there is also an increased curiosity about the actor who would be playing the role of Suri. A real life arch rival of Paritala who allegedly put together a death squad to gun down Paritala in order to avenge his father's and brother's deaths, Suri is presently lodged in Anantpur jail on trial for Paritala's killing. There have been speculations that Manoj Bajpai has been roped in for the role of Suri. However, Ramu evades the question and plays a wait and watch game. . "It has not yet been decided that who is going to play the part of Suri. But yes, his character is very integral to that of Rakta Charitra, especially in Part 2 of the film", informs Ramu who is making the film in two parts that would be released in January and April 2010 respectively. . Revealing a little more about the way the characters of Ravi and Suri would shape up in Rakta Charitra, Ramu says, " Rakta Charitra Part 1 will predominantly deal with Ravi's rise and will end with the Rama Naidu Studio blast and the introduction of Suri. On the other hand, Rakta Charitra Part 2 will feature Ravi and Suri equally." . While Paritala Ravi is the central character of the film, a man who was a rebel, a feudal lord, a Robinhood, a killer of hundreds and saviour of thousands, Suri isn't any less intriguing. . "I have been following Ravi's rise to power since long, but I first heard of Suri only after the bomb explosion at Rama Naidu Studios. I was both amazed and chilled to see that even after being confined to a prison cell, how the fire of Suri's vengeance continued to burn unabated for 7 long years till he finally succeeded, armed with nothing but a severe desire to kill Ravi as his one and only weapon. I have met Suri in Anantpur jail and what I finally managed to piece together from all the various police records and eye witness accounts is the most fascinating story I have ever heard or could hope to hear in my life", says the excited film maker.

"No one from the Industry turned up for Feroz Khan's funeral" - Celina Jaitly

Celina Jaitly On Monday evening Celina Jaitly was very upset, and not just because her mentor and guide and friend Feroz Khan had passed away. At the funeral in Bangalore, Celina was horrified to see the poor turn-out from the film industry. "There was just me, Sajid Khan, Sanjay Gupta and Kishen Kumar. No one else came from Mumbai except the entire family of Feroz Khan .Among the top stars there was only Hrithik...But he's family to the Khans." Celina can't hold back her tears. "I was shooting in Delhi when I heard of Feroz's death. I couldn't get a direct flight, so I flew into Bangalore from Mumbai. I had to. I couldn't hold myself back. Feroz Khan was not just the man who gave me my first break. He was my dear friend. I am close to both his children Fardeen and Laila. As for Feroz, what can I say? I could discuss anything from Oscar Wilde to the latest Bollywood film with him. He inspired, amused and amazed me with his knowledge and enthusiasm." The last time Celina met Feroz was three weeks ago. "I met him at the Breach Candy hospital. He got into his Versace track suit to meet me. That was the man, stylish even when he was in acute pain. He had needles sticking out of his body but he was wearing Versace. He said to me, 'Celina Baby (that's what he called me) Look at what these f***ers have done to me." She bursts into tears. "I'll miss him so much. I've lost a dear friend, a father-figure. Years ago he had made Zeenat Aman a bikini girl in Qurbani. He made me the same in Janasheen. I'm very proud to be a Feroz Khan heroine."

Amitabh Bachchan on the completion of one year of his new passion - Blogging

Amitabh Bachchan Blogging seems to have become a leading interest in your life. When and how did you develop an interest in it? It is not a leading interest, but I can safely say that blogging seeks my involvement every day. I had heard of the concept, but had no idea what it was and what it entailed. I heard of Aamir having one and during a discussion with BigAdda who were designing my website, I enquired after it. They happily put the whole concept together within days, trained me on some essentials for its operation and I made a soft beginning. It has been most enlightening since. Did it occur to you that you may not have the time to pursue blogging seriously? No. That didn't bother me. What worried me was my absence from it, once having started it 'seriously'. To me it is a wonderful medium to be able to connect with my fans and well -wishers. What is it about blogging that you like the best? The ability to convey individually and personally my feelings to the reader, secure in the thought that it shall reach them without any corruption. Every day of my life for the last 40 years I have been going in front of the camera and exposing, or at least trying to expose, every possible emotion or attitude that I possess. You are an extremely private person. And yet you seem happy sharing your day-to-day activities with your bloggers' community. How and why did that happen? I think this is a completely erroneous notion in the minds of those that form opinions on me. What may I ask, leads one to believe that I am an 'extremely private person'? Every day of my life for the last 40 years I have been going in front of the camera and exposing, or at least trying to expose, every possible emotion or attitude that I possess. Actors are indeed as transparent as they can possibly be when in front of the lens. You come to know how they speak, how they laugh, how they cry, how they dance and run and emote and.... What more would you want to know about them to declassify them from privacy? I lead a normal life, just as any other. If the media is not aware of it, or has failed to discover it, which in today's very intrusive environment I find difficult to believe, then the onus is on them. Just because media is unable to gather much about you publicly, does not mean that you are private. How close do you feel to these faceless friends who visit you regularly on the blog? 'Faceless' is a harsh term. I refer to them as my 'extended family'. They confide in me. They show affection and concern. They get upset at times and reprimand me. They share their dreams and ambitions with me. They seek answers and opinions from me. They show respect to me as an elder. They abuse me and most importantly, they miss me when I am not there on time. Are not all these wonderfully domesticated attributes? And now very soon my server BigAdda is developing software where my readers will be able to put up their photograph on the blog against their name. So they shall no longer be 'faceless'. Also as we go along, due to the massive patronage in numbers from the readers, many more exciting features are being developed to bring them closer to me. We already have the MoBlog feature functioning, which enables me to write onto the blog through my mobile. And soon I shall have the facility to be able to record on blog with my voice, or dictate a message to them and then finally for them, in time, to be able to communicate their response to me via the mobile. The numbers are quite phenomenal - 25,000 number of visits per day, and over 100,000 page views per day. Multiply and do some mathematics on this from April 2008, every day and the figure is quite amazing. So this shall become eventually a huge exercise in communication management!! My extended family extends further!! Amitabh Bachchan Are there any special friends /fans on the blog? To me they are all special. Each one of them. Unique and sincere in whatever they express. You've certainly enriched their lives by your presence. How have your blogging buddies enriched your life? Brilliant question!! And one that I am so happy to answer. They enrich my life by their honesty and frankness. By pulling me out of my closet at times and showing me a mirror. By critically analysing events and moments. By educating me on my faults. By acclaiming creativity, not just mine but wherever they see it; a director, a film, an artist a colleague they admire and appreciate, or do not. A moment in time which requires attention and comment. Just such a vast library of information and expression. Some possess absolutely astonishing ideas and vocabulary, distinct and classified. Others bring forth their personal problems and expect nothing more than a patient ear. It's like being in a closed room with each one of them. I follow them and at times correct myself through what they suggest. I also disagree with them and explain why. A most enriching exercise all of it. Whether or not I enrich them is really for them to answer. How much time do you devote to blogging? Is it now a mandatory part of your daily life? I blog whenever I get the time. It could be during the day at work, or late at night just before dropping off to sleep. Sometimes, I convey rapidly, most of the time not. But I do convey everyday. As I write to you I am on DAY 271. Not a single day missed since when I started, in April 2008. And may I have the strength to continue in this fashion. I blog whenever I get the time. It could be during the day at work, or late at night just before dropping off to sleep. How different is your interaction with them as compared with what you share with regular person-to-person fans? The same... No different. Your command over the language is being oohed and aahed about. Has blogging polished up your writing skills? I have no writing skills. I write what comes to my heart when the computer is ready to digitize my thoughts. The 'oohing' and 'aahing' is more perhaps, I am certain, because of my inadequacy in the craft. I have no writing skills. I write what comes to my heart when the computer is ready to digitize my thoughts. Do you feel liberated of the need to put your thoughts and voice across on the media? Yes I do. Liberated to give my expression as opposed to that which is perceived. Liberated to contradict a mischievous and evil accusation. Liberated to be able to inform in the correctness of things. Liberated to spread the literary genius of my Father; a due that poets and writers never ever achieve in their lifetime. Liberated from the fear of that sensationalised 'cut and paste' headline the following morning, the following week or following month. Liberated to share a private moment with those that understand and show sympathy. Liberated to have a voice without ulterior benefit. Liberated to feel the warmth and love from those that express, instantly. Liberated to construct a passage into my heart and head. Liberated to be able to challenge. Liberated to accept defeat and to seek the strength to overcome it. Liberated to criticize criticism and to acknowledge acclaim. And finally, liberated to stand up to 'wretched' puerile kindergarten rhymed opinion makers and be able to exercise the constitutional right of every living Indian ; the freedom of my expression. Finally, has blogging freed you of the inhibitions regarding your privacy? Are you now more inclined to write an autobiography? I am incapable of writing an autobiography!
