Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 30 Apr 2009 | 4:53 pm Shiney Ahuja to star in a Hollywood film alongside Val Kilmer
Shiney Ahuja's last film Hijack may have bombed at the B.O. but instead of sitting and brooding over it, Shiney has moved on big time. In fact Shiney is all excited these days and the reason behind it is that he has just signed his first Hollywood film.
The film in question is Silver Cord, a romantic sci-fi thriller that has Shiney playing the lead role along side Hollywood superstar Val Kilmer. What is however most interesting is the fact that unlike other Bollywood actors who have played mostly Asian characters in Hollywood films, Shiney will be seen playing an all-American character in Silver Cord thus becoming the first Indian actor to do so.
Silver Cord is directed by James Ordonez and produced by Mark Canton (of 300 fame), Michael Shane and Anthony Romano (producers of Catch Me If You Can). Apparently, director James Ordonez first came across Shiney when he watched Gangster and was mighty impressed with his acting. "He bowled me over. I saw two more of his films -Life⦠In A Metro and Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi. Intrigued by his work, I started watching several Bollywood films, and came back a full circle when I realized that Shiney was the pivotal character for Silver Cord", says James Ordonez.
Meanwhile producer Michael Shane who has worked with Hollywood heavyweights such as Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hanks is also pretty impressed with Shiney. "Shiney has international good looks and a powerful screen presence. His understated style of keeping his characters real reminds me of Paul Newman.", says Michael.
While Shiney must be beaming with joy with all the praises coming his way, one will have to wait and watch if Silver Cord manages to strike a chord with audiences world over.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Apr 2009 | 4:32 pm Michael Douglas indebted to Catherine Zeta

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 30 Apr 2009 | 3:16 pm Ranbir and Farhan play similar roles in their respective films Rajneeti & Dhruv
Ranbir Kapoor in Prakash Jha's Rajneeti and Farhan Akhtar in Sudhir Mishra's Dhruv (to be produced by Farhan and Ritesh) have a lot in common.
Both the leading men play reluctant politicians; educated, westernized boys who when forced into politics take their responsibilities as political leaders seriously.
Both will be playing Chief Ministers of Indian states who learn the political game on the job.
While the politics of Prakash Jha's cinema is inspired by the Mahabharat, Mario Puzo's The Godfather and happenings in the Gandhi dynasty, Sudhir Mishra's film will seek straight inspiration from Shakespeare's Hamlet and episodes from the director's grandfather's life.
Both the actors would have to go through a period of orientation before they start shooting.
But both directors wanted that raw apolitical quality in their protagonists.
Mishra seems to be talking on behalf of Prakash Jha's behalf when he says, "Though set in contemporary times, my film won't be looking at the sensational sleazy side of news headlines. It will look at today's politics with realistic eyes."
Shakespeare will be getting proper credit for Sudhir Mishra's adaptation of Hamlet that the director is adapting to the current political scenario in the film that will star Farhan Akhtar in the lead. Says Sudhir, "That's the way it should be with all adaptations. Nothing comes out of thin air. But we must acknowledge our source of inspiration."
In fact, in the forthcoming film Sikandar, which Sudhir Mishra has produced, for two lines from Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sudhir pursued Faiz's daughter for consent. "I'd have got Shakespeare's permission to use Hamlet in Farhan's film. But he isn't alive. I'd happily acknowledge my source of inspiration in the film."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Apr 2009 | 1:38 pm Aamir, Shah Rukh lead IIFA nominations

Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 30 Apr 2009 | 11:10 am SRK's Blog: "We have been hit and hit hard"Following is the excerpt from SRK's latest post on his blog on KKR's official website.
Keep the Faith
You must have heard a thousand times that the way to victory does not lie in how hard you can hit; but how hard you can take the hit. And I am not telling you anything new. Every teacher says that to his student, every coach says that to his team and I am sure John has said this to you guys enough times already, just as a father says that to his son.
When they all say this, in their hearts they also wish and hope that their team does not get hit; it doesn't have to learn to win that way. A father feels, let my son win without ever getting hit; but you still say this to them because you know this world is a hard place. Games are a hard battlefieldâ¦your opponent wants to win as much as you doâ¦so there is always going to be a chance that you will get hit. The best of us get hitâ¦Mohammad Ali got hitâ¦Carl Lewis got hitâ¦John Buchanan must have been hitâ¦Sourav Ganguly here has been hit several times.
So let's start from the fact that yes we have been hit already. So this is a good thing. A very good thing! We have been hit and hit hard, so the difficult part is over now. We all should accept that, we do lie at this point very nearly on the floor. So now comes the part, which is more important. The part that we need to show everyone around us, that we can take a hit; we can fall down; but we also know how to scrape ourselves from the floor and continue to fight. We still can take a few hits more and still fight back. Lots of people are saying lots of things about us, but none of them are right. The only right thing is that the owners have faith in this team, the coach has faith in this team; as a matter of fact the team has faith in this team. So there is no problem here at all. Just go out and play to have a great timeâ¦enjoy yourselves because pressure only builds more pressure. There is no need to prove anything amongst us. We all trust we are a great bunch of people and cricketers.
One lakh people out there have only one prayer in their hearts, god give our kids strength and a bit of luck to beat the shit out of their opponents. God will listen and deliver today, but just to make sure run faster, hit harder and go out destroy the opponent.
Lets play this like our first game ever as if we have to prove it to the world that we are good and can hit, then lets play this game like the last game of our lives, because we need to prove it to ourselvesâ¦that we can take being hit and get up from the floor.
I say a prayer my father taught me; whatever your faith, lets get together and say it⦠"Nasrun minal lahe wah fatahun kareeb â¦"

Show Ram Gopal Varma a character whose life arouses a curiosity in him, and his flesh begins crawling towards the figure, so fast and precise that by the end of his research, Ramu would not be living his own life, but the life of that character. Recalling an incident from an interview with one of the Bollywood celebrities a month back, the actor quoted, "If the casting of your film is right, you've won half your battle". Ok, now hold your thought on the above quote.
Right then, it was those coal-black eyes, glistening with absolute conviction and probably malicious intent. It was his first impression that gave us his last. At one point it gave us the shivers, not because he looked horrifying, but because he looked fearless and unstoppable in his quest for revenge. He perpetrated terror in his debut film and there on became a household name. We watched him evolve from a hopeful smart sidekick into an all-powerful, all-controlling 'Chandu'. This character in Ram Gopal Varma's Company was the ultimate anti-social anti-heroes, genuine threats to our way of life - genuine because Vivek Oberoi, the consummate professional, made it so very real. Add to this role his other classic performance in Shootout At Lokhandwala, and you realise why the man is an undeniable and deserved anti-hero. Getting there for these character wasn't easy, especially Chandu's. Thanks to Ram Gopal Varma for bringing the lion out of the den. Company was an overnight success and Oberoi an overnight star.
Back to the present, what if we said - There's a new Vivek Oberoi movie in theaters this month. Whether you regard that as a threat or a promise depends on how you feel about an up-and-down career that's unlike any other. But it's the gift that Ramu has kept on giving: a movie that definitely kickstarted Vivek's career, but only in hindsight, and of course, all in good company. Can't you recall the famous line from the film which goes, 'Sab Ganda Hain Par Dhandha Hain Yeh'?
Since the last seventy two hours, the casting of Vivek Oberoi has garnered a lot of attention, especially his look in the film. We call it - The rediscovery of the lost diamond... and it's time Ramu shines it to perfection. RGV says that he is impressed with the intensity in Vivek's eyes, his voice which commands attention, the arrogance in his demeanour and his powerful stance along with his vulnerability which makes a perfect Paritala Ravi. So is this the reunion we were waiting for? Will this be Vivek's bloody best since Company? Are both back with a vengeance? Questions alone aren't going to provide us the answers. So after RGV, it's the writer of Rakta Charitra, Prashant Pandey, who gets into the act. He says, "Rakta Charitra isn't a biopic but a bio-epic. Casting for such a film requires a certain method and artifice where an actor goes through a metamorphosis to look the part. Vivek's casting is a part of the larger design that RGV has in mind for the film. It's a character who goes through the most mind boggling inner transformation. I, as an audience and as a writer want to see that."
Click above for more movie stills
Ramu once told Prashant, "Vivek has this certain persona which I intend to disentangle in Rakta Charitra." To which the writer adds, "RGV as a director and a person knows his actors minds very well. He has this amazing ability to create characters out of thin air. It looks very easy but he spends a lot of time working out on pauses, inflections, eyes and hand movements, turns, and even a small lift of eyebrows of his imagined characters. For RGV, it's a journey even till the posters are out."
As a journalist who's watched many biopics, I've always felt that nothing screams award-worthy on a film poster as much as the words 'Based on a True story' does. Prashant Pandey quotes, "Biopics are essentially a dramatic condensation of someone's life. There is a certain unreality and a design to all biopics whether it is Soderbherg's Che or Oliver Stones' film on Jim Morrison, The Doors or even our own BR Chopra's Mahabharata. It's someone's life imagined and lived by someone else. So for me it's always Paritala Ravi as Vivek rather than Vivek as Paritala Ravi."
History has it that all great biopics went down in cinema as cult classics. Be it Donnie Brasco, Goodfellas, The Last King of Scotland, etc. Now count this - Satya, Company and Sarkar. Weren't they great biopics too? Come to think of it, they were in more ways than just one as it unveiled the harsh realities of the corrupt and an unjust system. Prashant Pandey tells us, "RGV has an incredible mastery over manipulating and redesigning reality, hence he can best highlight Paritala Ravi's glorious life with the help of Vivek's presence and application. I think in a film like this , you need someone who can stop acting and start living."
If Vivek Oberoi's presence in Rakta Charitra can have a profound impact on the worldwide media, think what would happen to all journalists when they come to know that Manoj Bajpai too is a part of the film. Got stunned? Just kidding, but Prashant isn't. He quotes a line from Godfather when Michael tells Tom, "All our men are businessmen, based on that everything is possible". If possibility has a chance, we won't be surprised to see Bajpai and Ramu back together on the big screen. It's like the fire and fuel fusion. Just think about the havoc it can create. Anyway, from whatever appears on Ram Gopal Varma's blog about Rakta Charitra, it does feel that a pacey drama is ready to inject your adrenal glands in time to come as Ramu's rich tapestry is both broader in scope and more detailed than a mere recounting of the events in the life of Paritala Ravi.
It won't be wrong in saying that RGV is now in his comfort zone after the most important casting. But he shouldn't forget that the ultimate measure of his is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy. Ramu might think that his search for Paritala Ravi has ended but the least he knows that his perennial journey has just begun.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Apr 2009 | 10:30 am Crucial meeting heldSome good news now! In fact, the multiplexes are also keen that the deadlock ends as soon as possible. Another meeting is likely to take place in the next week. The nominations for the IIFA awards 2009 have just been announced. And Madhur Bhandarkar is not amused.
Though he has been nominated as Best Director for Fashion, the film has not been nominated for 'Best Picture', although all the other directors who are nominated are also part of the 'Best Picture' category.
Madhur says that he's used to this snub. "They've done this to me before. My films have been denied popular awards, right from Chandni Bar. So I'm neither hurt nor amused. I just wonder what it means. If I'm one of the best directors of the year, isn't my product automatically among the best films? But I'm sure they've their own rationale and I'm the last person to question it. Right now, I'm too drained out shooting for Jail in the heat of Karjat."
The film is being shot in the sun and members of the unit are suffering from dehydration. "We've a doctor on standby throughout the shooting. Anyone can suffer from sunstroke or dehydration any time. And after all this effort, Jail too may be snubbed at the popular awards. But I'm not complaining. I've the audience and critics with me. And my films get the National Award. If you look back in history, you will recollect how precious 'that' first award was for you, for your achievement. The same thing, after a certain point, becomes a saturated virtue. But not if you are Anil Kapoor, because this legendary actor, after the success of the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, is too busy collecting one award after the other, the recent one being that from 'The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles' (IFFLA) and 'Screen Actors Guild' on Apr 23, 2009. Not just that, the actor also presented the world premiere of the English version of Gandhi, My Father at the opening gala night of the 2009's chapter of IFFLA, which was held at ArcLight Hollywood Cinemas. Anil's classic films including Lamhe and Viraasat were also screened at the event.
Other highlights of the event included the profiling of films made by women directors including the likes of Nandita Das' directorial debut, Firaaq, Deepa Mehta's Heaven On Earth, Sooni Taraporevala's Little Zizou and Nina Paley's animated Sita Sings The Blues. Besides all this, in lieu of IFFLA's ongoing commitment in supporting and showcasing the restored prints of Indian classic films, the festival also paid homage to B. R. Chopra by screening his classic, Naya Daur.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2009 | 4:51 pm Neil and Preity paired together to endorse Morellato watches
Had it been on the silver screen, 'this' could have very well been the casting coup of sorts. We are referring to the pairing of Neil Nitin Mukesh alongwith Preity Zinta, who have been roped in together to endorse an Italian watch brand.
For starters, Bollywood Hungama had yesterday reported about how the makers of Morellato watches, the famous Italian watch brand, got zeroed down on Neil Nitin Mukesh to be their Brand Ambassador for their wide range of watches. The current update is that the brand has now also roped in the bubbly Preity Zinta for the same. If the 'chemistry' between the Neil and Preity is anything to go by (the adjoining pics stand as testimonials to the same), then, we are sure that the Bollywood wallas will surely queue up at the door steps of this "Johnny Gaddaar" to team up with the "Dil Se" girl, who is presently cheering up her team 'Kings XI Punjab' in Cape Town!
Till the time this never-before 'pairing' happens, all that we can say is that, we are ready to wait and 'watch'. What say, Neil-Preity!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2009 | 4:39 pm SRK replaces Aamir in Reema Kagti's upcoming filmShah Rukh Khan is all set to replace Aamir Khan in Reema Kagti's upcoming venture.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Apr 2009 | 2:30 pm Satish Kaushik, Anu Malik patch upThe legal battle between filmmaker Satish Kaushik and music director Anu Malik is over and they have patched up.Source: Entertainment News | 29 Apr 2009 | 2:01 pm Gulzar, Vidya Balan launch Karadi Tales' audio book series
