All's fair in love and cricket: Shilpa
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 23 Apr 2009 | 5:16 pm 7Seas Tech to foray into gaming retailHyderabad based game developing company, 7Seas Technologies has entered into the game retail market in India with the launch of six popular budgeted casual computer game CD packs. The online and mobile games developer has awarded the exclusive rights to publish and distribute these game CD packs across India to a Hyderabad based company Comprint, which will take the games to leading stores by May 2, 2009. "We are launching six casual computer game CD packs in genres including action, sports, kids, fun, puzzle and cricket in the Indian market. India is a price sensitive market and therefore we have priced these packs very competitively. This will also help thwart piracy," said L Maruti Sanker, Managing Director of 7Seas Technologies. The CD packs, each containing 20 games, are priced at Rs99 whereas the whole set is available for Rs399. The games will be available at more than 600 large format retail stores including Landmark, Big Bazaar, Music World, Odyssey and Planet M. Satyanarayana, General Manager, Comprint said, "Comprint is also gearing up to open its own shop-in-shops in leading retail stores such as Big Bazaar. We plan to launch nearly 30 shop-in-shops exclusively for retailing game CDs and DVDs under our brand 'GameX' during this calendar year," he said. "Our main objective is to attract game enthusiasts who want to play such games on their normal household PCs in the offline mode. These games will suit well for those in rural and semi-urban areas which don't have proper internet facilities," Sanker added.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Apr 2009 | 3:10 pm "I attribute Koel Puri for spanking my butt in Rock On" - Purab KohliClick above for more stills This was one interview I was looking forward to, not just because I'd rated Rock On five stars in my Observer series newspapers in London, eight months ago, but because I was too desperate to meet the 'Killer Drummer' Purab Kohli for I too tried to sing 'I will survive' in front of my friends. The trouble was I didn't survive a second. For me, he rocked and yet there was no mention of him in my review. Perhaps I over looked it. But not any more. Come to think of it, his ability to give grandiose and surreal characters soul is proof of his heapin' helpin' of pure uncut manly talent and frankly he's one slice of grade A man steak I wouldn't mind tenderizing. Anyway, Purab shows up as he opens the door to our Bollywood encounter with his curly hair, dressed in standard, more like any struggling actor-retro-grunge, flashing his 'Popeye muscles' trying to break free from his unbuttoned green and yellow chequered summer shirt adoring his brown vest. Extending his hand in salutation, he glides into a bar chair opposite me offering me something to drink on a sweaty Thursday. He urges me to have a ginger drink stacked up with ice. I accept. Then he immediately jumps off his chair and stands next to the door to enact a real life scene when Gattu aka Abhishek Kapoor danced and jumped in joy after reading the first ever review of Rock On which I'd written. That was a classic performance by a Bandra boy in full flamboyance. Where majority of the actors would've stayed away from a performance like that in front of a journalist, Purab didn't give a damn about glimmering the prudent history - He was hired to deliver, and he does deliver...KD style. He is just cool and always has been ever since he started his career as a Channel 'V' VJ... Dipping into the depths of his exquisite mind to discover his version of Purab Kohli, buried beneath the 'Killer Drummer', the actor goes back and forth into his past, present and the future as Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent and UK's Harrow Observer columnist Devansh Patel finds out whether or not Purab will survive in Bollywood after the super success of Rock On, his journey from 'Chicken' to 'KD', his ability to open up to his fans, his turn ons, Rangeen and A Rectangular Love Story - his unreleased films and his unexplored areas in acting. Is the Killer Drummer's charm here to stay for good? I hope so. I think it's a part of me that a lot of people have liked. A lot of 'KD' in the film was me. I think we all as actors hope that we can retain ourselves in the business for a longer period of time to get more work, do more work and get popular. My rise has been a journey which ain't meteoric but after Rock On, you can definitely say so From a mere 'Chicken' in Supari to 'KD' in Rock On, would you term your rise to fame as meteoric? I still think it's a journey more than a rise. I was not someone who had an idea that it was acting I wanted to pursue as my career or to do a film like Rock On. If you look back at my career, the first thing I did in my life was act in a television series called 'Hip Hip Hurray'. Then I moved on to be a VJ on Channel V. I mean, today if someone was to come up to me with a film like Supari, I would've been weary to do it, thinking back that you want that good launch, you want that big producer, the right cast, etc. These are the elements which help you to climb up to be a star and it's not rocket science now. I've always tried and tested things in my life and it has worked. My rise has been a journey which ain't meteoric but after Rock On, you can definitely say so. I attribute Koel Puri for spanking my butt in Rock On. That's what got the beautiful girls all over the world to open up in front of me Your ability to get people in your audience to open up to you is pretty astounding. What do you attribute that to? I'm quite an open person. If people ask me questions about myself, I have nothing to hide because I choose to live an honest life. In terms of opening up to your audience and your audience accepting you for who you are is what they eventually see on the big screen. To a certain extent, 'Killer Drummer' was actually me in the real and reel life. That's the way I am and I have grown up playing the parts that I've played. I started acting when I was just eighteen and I'll be thirty in a few months. So for twelve years, I've contributed a lot to the roles I've played and vice versa. As an actor, you have to have an audience or fans opening up to you. You are catering to them because they want to see more of you. In good humour, I attribute Koel Puri for spanking my butt in Rock On. That's what got the beautiful girls all over the world to open up in front of me (laughs). You weren't nominated for the Filmfare Awards. Many feel you deserved one. We feel something bigger than Filmfare is waiting for you? Let's hope so. But I do crib about not being nominated. First the Screen Awards nominations came out and I was surprised not to see my name. As an actor, the least you want is to get nominated. I mean all those who've seen the film feel that I've done a good job and at least deserved a nomination. Plus, you want some kind of recognition for a performance which the audiences thought was fantastic. So one day Jitesh Pillai calls me up and invites me to support the Rock On team at the Filmfare. I go there and the next thing I see is my name being called out by Shabana Azmi to honour me for my performance in Rock On. It was a special certificate which was given to me by Filmfare and I was too excited for finally getting some kind of recognition. More so for the fact that it was Javed saab, Shabana ji and Ritesh Sidhwani who gave me the first reactions after watching the film. I remember, after watching the film, Ritesh comes up to me and pats my back, "Surprise package, surprise package." What's the turn on for you when you act? I've sat down and thought about this for quite some time now as to what do I love doing most - hosting shows or acting? The answer is acting because it's the instant appreciation you get from the person who is directing you. When you get something and you feel it in your heart that this is the emotional scene you need to perform, right away, the director approaches you saying that he loved it and it came across so well. That's what I like about acting and that feeling is just so beautiful. That's what turns me on. There are times when I feel that I could've given more to the scene and that in itself is the growth of an actor. When you're playing a host, it stagnates because everyday you're being yourself. When you're playing a character, you're doing it as somebody else each time and with somebody else, whether it's your co-actor or a director. I remember, after watching Rock On, Ritesh Sidhwani came to me and patted my back, saying "Surprise package, surprise package." There has not been a better feeling for me when I tried singing 'I will survive'. The only problem was that no girls pat on my bum. You like bending your own rules, don't you? (Laughs) I think I'm able to try very easily. I don't restrict myself too much. The societal ways of bending the rules would be in films like My Brother Nikhil, Awarapan and Rock On. Whatever Gattu had written in the script, is what you see in the film. 'I will survive' is one of the very rare occurrences that weren't in the script. Having said that, Prachi's song 'Ajeeb dastaan hain yeh' was in the draft. Now the question which was troubling Gattu was, how does Prachi get the mike. The whole party sequence was shot in Film City in three days. The first day while I was driving, Gattu calls me and says, "Tu 'I will survive' gaana gayega kya?" I said, "Yeah man, let's do it. It sounds amazing yaar". I came on the sets wanting to sing the song which every girl enjoys. The good thing is that all the junior artists who were enjoying the song in the film knew the song. So they added more fun and all started having a great time. Koel spanking me wasn't planned. It just happened because it was instinctive. For me, these are moments I'll always cherish. Do producers and directors still offer you roles with an image of a VJ in their mind? Yes they do, and that's what I come with, isn't it? That's great but it also restricts me to a certain extent where there are some roles that they don't look at me at all, and that's what I am trying to break out of. I am focusing in the same path right now. Me and my agent are doing exactly that but my being a VJ has its pros and cons. You're doing Rajat Kapoor's A Rectangular Love Story. You cornered? (Laughs) The film is Rajat's take on a love story which has four corners. There is Gul Panag, Ranvir Shorey, me and Neil Bhopalam. We are the four corners. The film is really on a thread and even if you know a little here and there, there won't be any surprises left. But it's not a regular love story and not a slapstick humour. It is situational and crazy. Do you think this film will add more punch to your career after the recent success of Rock On at all major award functions I don't know. Films like A Rectangular Love Story, Rangeen, etc are films I had said Yes to before Rock On released. Not that I would've not said Yes to them. They are fantastic films. I still stand by them. After Rock On, people expect a certain performance coming out of you, something better. All my fans on Facebook keep asking me the same question after Rock On - What next? Such is the market. At one level, it feels great that people are wanting more out of me but at the other level, I think, I better watch out what I'm doing now because I really don't want to disappoint my fans. That is there at the back of my mind. How has Rangeen shaped up for you? Again, Rangeen is an ensemble cast film. It has Tisca Chopra, Rajat Kapoor, Tara Shamra, me opposite Koel Puri and Manurishi who won the best writer for Oye Lucky Lucky Oye at the Filmfare this year, he is acting. It's a Sharat Kataria film who is to debut as a director with Rangeen. He is the same guy who has written Bheja Fry, though it was an adaptation. He has a potential of being a big director in Bollywood as he has really got everything in place. From the first time I read the script to my last scene I performed, I was completely convinced. In fact, Gattu has got the similar kind of emotions in Rock On as he did in his first film Aryan. The same sentiments are there in Sharat. Which areas are still left unexplored by you? I am hoping to do an action film but nobody is giving it to me (laughs). I am good at intense emotion but I'll be equally good in action. I am confident. I think there can be a stronger intense emotion coming out of an action flick if someone dares to make it. I liked the raw action in Ghajini. I love watching all Ram Gopal Varma films because his action films are a work of a genius. Sanjay Gupta too has some good caliber for action and then Sanjay Gadhvi does some good stuntly action films. Now this can be bizarre but that minuscule action in Aditya Chopra's DDLJ in the end was great. It was a nice action sequence. Hear me out guys and bring it on! Quiz: How well do you know Purab KohliSource: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 Apr 2009 | 2:08 pm John Abraham and the 'Boys in Blue' gear up to play cricketCricket Fever has caught on big time thanks to the on-going IPL frenzy and hence it comes as no surprise to see some Bollywood filmmakers cashing in on the popularity of the sport which is almost a religion in India. UTV Motion Pictures' forthcoming film Hook Ya Crook is one such film that has cricket as the backdrop. The film, directed by the David Dhawan, has John Abraham, Genelia D'souza, Kay Kay Menon and Shreyas Talpade in lead roles. The film is set in a prison and revolves around a cricket match played among the inmates. With David at the helm of things, this one promises to be a complete entertainer. Also it would be interesting to see the fresh pairing of John and Genelia for the first time on the big screen. Majority of the film has been shot at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The supporting cast includes talented actors like Pavan Malhotra, Murli Sharma, Krishna and Sharad Kapoor (who would be seen making a comeback of sorts after a really long time). John who impressed one and all with his football skills in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal will showcase his cricket skills this time in Hook Ya Crook. If the buzz is to be believed, then John's good friend and captain of the Indian Cricket Team M.S. Dhoni is also slated to make a guest appearance in this film. With such an impressive star cast and an interesting premise, Hook Ya Crook is certainly among the most awaited films of this year. But they aren't meeting. The interesting part is the two adjacent sets at Nitin Desai's studio in Karjat both represent huge prison sets. While Madhur Bhandarkar is shooting his prison film Jail on one prison set, next-door David Dhawan is shooting scenes in a prison with John Abraham for Hook Ya Crook. Desperate attempts are being made to keep the cast and crew of one separate from the other to ensure there's no creative overlapping or duplicating from one to another. The fact that gym buddies John and Neil aren't fraternizing although they are shooting a breath away from one another is ample proof that the two units have decided to stay away from one another with their respective prison secrets. Innocent jailbird that he is, Neil says from Karjat, "To be honest I have hardly had the chance to meet John here, although we're shooting just a hop and skip away from one another. In all this time maybe we've met just once." This, after spending all their free time together in Philadelphia when they were shooting for New York, and later in Mumbai where they even gymed together. Lekin bhai, creativity ka sawaal hai. Incidentally Kabir Khan's New York has prison scenes where John is stripped naked and tortured for being a suspected terrorist. Neil too gets into his birthday suit in Jail and is similarly tortured for crimes he hasn't committed in Jail. With one prison story resembling another without trying, is it any wonder that best buddies John and Neil have decided to stay away from one another and not exchange notes over their prison stories?Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Apr 2009 | 10:42 am Mallika launches The Mallika Shake - Oneindia

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 23 Apr 2009 | 10:27 am Himesh to play a radio jockey in his next film - RadioHimesh Reshammiya may have suffered a jolt after Karzzzz but let aside a momentary time period that saw him keeping a low profile, he has hardly withdrawn from the scene. Soon after finishing a major portion of John Mathew Mathan's A Love Issshtory, he is ready to move on to his next project which is interesting titled Radio. In the film, Himesh would be playing a radio jockey. To be produced by Ravi Agarwal, the film would be directed by Isshaan Trivedi, the young filmmaker who made 7 1/2 Phere [Irrfan Khan, Juhi Chawla] four years back and is ready with Jimmy Sheirgill-Arbaaz Khan-Nauheed Cyrusi starrer Bachelor Party. Confirms Himesh Reshammiya, "Yes, I have signed the film with Isshaan Trivedi. The film is a romantic comedy and would bear a realistic touch." Beginning 25th May, Radio would embark on a non-stop 60 days schedule. A song recording, which would be held today, would mark the film's launch. Interestingly, while Isshaan's last release was centred on a TV (the film had a sting operation as an undercurrent theme), Radio, as the name suggests, has a radio being an integral part of the film. "These are actually interesting times for me", exclaims Himesh who has been donning a new look for his fresh bunch of projects, "After completing Studio 18's Ishk Unplugged (directed by Swapna Joshi and written by Subrat Sinha) in a 65 days non-stop schedule, I am moving on to another non-stop schedule for Ravi Agarwal's Radio. I am enjoying every moment." Meanwhile, his other under production films too are making brisk progress. Says a trade insider, "There should be four Himesh Reshammiya releases in next 12 months. Other than Ishk Unplugged and Radio, he also has A Love Issshtory and Kajraare in the line up. Contrary to the reports that Kajraare has been shelved, that is hardly the case. In fact Himesh leaves for Devigad on 25th April for the last schedule of this Pooja Bhatt film. Moreover, for John Mathew's A Love Issshtory, Himesh has completed the talkie portion with only songs being left to be shot." On his part, Himesh promises that it is going to be a great outing ahead not just for him but also the entire film industry which is reeling under dozens of box office disasters being churned out month after month. A source adds, "Super-confident of his films, he truly believes that recession in the film industry will end with releases of these films." But getting there wasn't a cakewalk. "People think it's easy when you have a godfather in the industry. The truth is, it's all the more pressurizing. I hate being called bade baap ka beta. Even if I wasn't Vashu Bhagnani's son, I'd want to be an actor. I've been working on myself since I was 16. It's not easy realizing a dream especially when the world says that you don't have what it takes. It's my personal conviction and dedication that drove me. I literally had to start from minus," Jackky admits in a heartfelt conversation. KAL KISSNE DEKHA launches Jackky Bhagnani as a non-conventional hero and though that might seem as a slight risk to some, he feels differently. "The audience today is open-minded, so I wanted to entertain them in a new way rather than taking the beaten path," he justifies. Whenever a newcomer makes a high-profile debut, he's inundated with plum offers even before his debut film hits the screen. But Jackky doesn't seem to be in a hurry. "I just want to wait and concentrate on this film. Also, the offers must excite me since I would want to outdo myself the next time. I am my biggest critic," the confident debutante tells me. Bush and the so called trend has soon spread like wild fire world over. After the numerous shoe throwing incidences in India, this time it was yesteryear's star Jeetendra who was the latest target when a slipper was thrown at him during a Congress party road show in a Maharashtra town on Tuesday. Jeetendra was addressing a road show that was organized by the Congress candidate Manikrao Gavit in the town of Nandurbar, when someone from the crowd chucked a slipper at him. The congregation gathered was over 3000 in strength, so figuring out who actually threw the slipper at the actor was hard to figure. However, party activists immediately pounced on the offender - apparently identified as Dilip Ingle - and took him away. While the motive behind his slipper chucking was not clear, Jeetendra surely must be one unhappy man with the treatment meted out to him.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Apr 2009 | 5:24 pm Hrithik and Ganesh Hegde again, in TV-adHrithik Roshan and ace choreographer Ganesh Hegde created magic with the dance moves in "Koi Mil Gaya" and the two have teamed up again - but this time for a TV commercial for popular biscuit brand Hide-n-Seek.Source: Entertainment News | 22 Apr 2009 | 5:03 pm Shyam Benegal's next venture : 'Well Done Abba'Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal is ready with his next venture "Well Done Abba", a satirical comedy that stars Boman Irani in a double role.Source: Entertainment News | 22 Apr 2009 | 4:56 pm Salman lucky name 'Prem' passed to ArbaazBollywood star Salman Khan has found a new way to pass on his luck to younger brother Arbaaz Khan - by passing on his lucky screen name Prem.Source: Entertainment News | 22 Apr 2009 | 4:40 pm Raj to gift Shilpa a Lamborghini on their wedding

The Bollywood bombshell became the first Bollywood star to be honored with a milkshake of her name at Hollywood hotspot 'Millions of Milkshakes' in West Hollywood. The actress followed the footsteps of other Hollywood biggies like Leonardo Di Caprio, Paris Hilton and Tim Allen who have had shakes named after them at 'Millions of Milkshakes'. Mallika was recently present during the launch of 'The Mallika Shake' at the popular Hollywood hangout. 'The Mallika Shake' is a rare blend of Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, and Strawberries with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Speaking about a milkshake being named after her, Mallika said, "It's wonderful that Hollywood has welcomed me with open arms, whether its lunch with the Mayor or a milkshake being named after me. Besides it's cool to have a Mallika Shake next to a Leonardo Di Caprio Shake. I am having a great time in LA." Mallika was also extremely pleased with the way the post-production of her upcoming film Hisss is going on. "The post production of Hissss is going great. It has become the first Bollywood production to be represented by a top Hollywood agency 'Endeavor' that brokered the deal for Slumdog Millionaire," she said. As per the young filmmaker, he was feeling quite low after the failure of Home Delivery at the box office but 'Sir' (as he usually addresses Amitabh Bachchan) continued to trust his capabilities and encouraged him to go for the film. "I continue to thank Sir for that till date because he shared a simple sounding two word trick with me - 'Rise Again'! Even though Home Delivery had flopped miserably, he never left my side. I never gave up because every time I met him, he encouraged me. So my promise to him was - 'Yes Sir, I will rise again!'", says Sujoy. He particularly remembers his first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan which was years back on the sets of Baghbaan. At that time, he had gone to meet him for a different film called Borivali that he was looking at making with the veteran actor. "I met Sir for the first time and it was one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of my life. This may sound clichéd but I was in complete awe and scared. All this while, I was wondering if I may end up saying something out of place", recollects Sujoy for whom this meeting led to countless more meetings and finally ending up with the actor consenting to do his project. "He was very kind", says Sujoy, "He took my concept and promised to read it on the flight as he was leaving for Europe that night. While there are quite a few more stories to be told about how he came on board for my film, what I can never forget is the realization that dawned upon me - "I had just spoken to Amitabh Bachchan." A fan and follower of Amitabh Bachchan, Sujoy gets on tangent in appreciation of the mega star. "For me, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar is the best 'Devdas' ever. I remember seeing it in 1978 with the audience of Kolkata, and was converted. I just wanted to do two things - 1) See every film of this actor called Amitabh Bachchan and b) get a middle parting in my hair. I think apart from Moses, Sir is the only person who can claim to have parted anything on such a large scale", he draws a metaphor here. Commenting on the huge popularity that Amitabh Bachchan has enjoyed over the decades, Sujoy mentions about this particular incident where a fan in Kolkata had jumped from the balcony of a theatre after seeing Amitabh Bachchan jumping to his death in Main Azaad Hoon. Though the fan survived, Amitabh Bachchan was shaken. "In one of our conversations, Sir narrated this incident. I could see his concern when he told me this. He felt responsible but had no idea how to stop something like that. God forbid anything happened to that fan, he would have never forgiven himself." He goes on to conclude with high admiration in his tone, "I have never seen anyone who loves his fans as much as he does and have also realized: it's great to be a star, but not easy. As Aunt May said to Peter '... with great power comes great responsibility.'"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Apr 2009 | 1:10 pm Jade Goody wanted mother to kill her
