Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 18 Apr 2009 | 3:35 pm Mallika Sherawat attends an elite luncheon hosted by Mayor of Los AngelesMallika Sherawat is certainly among the better known Bollywood stars in the West. Only recently, the actress was invited as a special guest at a Wine-Tasting Luncheon at the Malibu Family Wines, Malibu, California. Mallika was also involved in a celebrity auction as a part of a fundraiser hosted by IFFLA (Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles) whereby the highest bidder got a chance to spend a day with her at a professional photo shoot and have lunch with her. Now, while the sexy actress is in Los Angeles for the post-production work on her much-talked about project Hissss (with Hollywood director Jennifer Lynch), she recently attended an elite luncheon hosted by the Mayor of LA. Although the gorgeous lady has been in LA for only four short weeks, she is already rubbing shoulders with the who's who of the glamorous city. She will also be attending the weekend's Fangoria Conference at the LA Convention Center to talk about Hissss and interact with fans there. Well, Madame Sherawat certainly seems to be getting world-famous day by day.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 18 Apr 2009 | 1:40 pm Neil Nitin strips for Jail

Avant-garde director Sudhir Mishra is ready to make a Kishore Kumar epic. "My favourite filmmaker and one of the primary influences on my life and career is Guru Dutt. However a film on his life seems difficult if not impossible. Guru Dutt has already borrowed chapters of his own life in Pyasa and Kagaz Ke Phool. Making a Kishore Kumar bio-pic would be a dream come true. No one knows the real Kishore." Sudhir's problem is who to cast as Kishore Kumar. Nagesh Kukunoor has an answer to this. He wants to cast his favourite actor Shreyas Talpade as Kishore Kumar, for two reasons. Firstly Nagesh feels a Kishore Kumar bio-pic cannot be attempted with a star that has a strong image and secondly, Shreyas is a huge Kishore Kumar fan himself. Nagesh thrives on Kishore Kumar songs and claims to know the obscurest of Kishore's songs. "And if it's a duet I only know the male portion by heart," chuckles Nagesh. Nagesh wants to focus primarily on the music and songs of Kishore Kumar. His narrative would be propelled forward on the strength of Kishore Kumar's songs. Nagesh is in the process of acquiring the rights of the original KK evergreens. The filmmaker has spent hours with Kishore's son Amit Kumar and wife Leena Chandavarkar who opened the vaults of their hearts and gave Nagesh enough anecdotes to make his bio-pic voluptuous and comprehensive. Interestingly Kishore Kumar's immediate family has also had meetings with Shoojit Sircar who plans his own KK bio-pic after he completes his current assignments. So it's hard to make out which of the two projects the Ganguly parivar truly believes in. Or which would take off first. However Nagesh has an edge since he has already approached producers. Some time ago Nagesh had gone to Subhash Ghai with the proposal to make the KK biopic. The Showman, enthusiastic about the idea, thought such a mammoth project required a marquee name. Sudhir Mishra disagrees. "You can't have an acknowledged superstar playing a personality whom generations know like a member of the household. On the other hand you can't make a big-budget bip-pic on Kishore Kumar unless you've a readymade audience. So it's a Catch 22 situation." One possibility that Sudhir is willing to explore is to cast Kishore Kumar's younger son Sumit. Provided Sumit could act. "But then who ever thought Kishore Kumar could act, sing, dance, entertain, compose....all at the same time? His son must have inherited some of that talent," reasons Sudhir hopefully. Poll: Which other Bollywood star's bio pic would you like to see?Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 18 Apr 2009 | 9:01 am Subhash K Jha speaks on Dashavtar12 hours after I saw the amazing camera chameleon Kamal Haasan transform into ten utterly different characters my head is still reeling "Is that also him?" my daughter kept asking about every character, man woman or child who popped up in this action-reaction drama on the dynamics of destiny, karma, religion, politics and global terrorism. Matrix meets maya in thunder land would be an apt description to this film which very honestly, defies allotting. Phew! Got that? No? Well, you still have to see Dashavtar to know what the astounding Kamal Sir has attempted and failed to achieve in this woefully ambitious tale of greed and lust for lifeâ¦and I don't only mean the emotions that motivate the characters. The actor who's also the screenwriter of this flamboyant tale of rebellious warriors, international gangs and parochial accents, is also motivated by a lust and ambition for more, more and more of himself on screen. He doesn't just hog footage. He swallow it up without a burp. On-screen megalomania is not a good thing for the wellbeing of a film. When the actor becomes several sizes larger than the vehicles invented to accommodate his restless talents, it's time for the actor to slow down and consider why cinema flourished as an art-form in the first place. Was it so that one day an actor of Kamal Haasan's stature could monopolize screen time to the detriment of all narrative equilibrium? Indeed the actor's audacity takes your breath away. Right before our stunned eyes Kamal Haasan transforms into characters ranging from an old cantankerous woman to George Bush. The funniest of them all is an impersonation of a pompous parochial Bengali government agent (whose ring tone is R.D Burman's Jaane-e-jaan tu kahan main yahan in Bengali) , assigned to bring a global terrorist (played with snarling lip smacking relish, who else, Kamal The Chameleon) to book. They chase one another on land and in space. They create mayhem but no pace or space for the narration to breathe in any semblance of grace. This is an epic that loses control over its resources. A Tamil maestro of the performing arts, doing a Bengali accent is as outrageous as Jaya Prada playing the wife of a cancer-stricken Punjabi Bhangra-pop singer. Oh, didn't I tell you? Kamalji also does a Punjabi. And why not? Dashavtar is an ode to Indianess in all its gory glory. It starts several centuries ago and ends in 2004 with the Tsunami waters creating a havoc and catastrophe(impressively staged) far more containable than what this film has achieved. Dashavtar is one chaotic messy and exasperating mass of mammoth ambitions gone awry. An ongoing theme in Kamal Haasan's entire cinema is the opposition between religion and cynicism. As in real life in this film the actor (in one of his dus avatars) or is an agnostic who ironically has to run around with a Krishna statur that has a deadly vial secreted in its clay body. Wow, God meets the NASA! For company the agnostic has the hysterical Asin screeching and fretting like Kajol on drugs. Then poor Mallika Sherawat appears to perform a snazzy cabaret to an indeterminate Himesh Reshammiya tune and gets impaled to the nearest wall like a comic book Amazon who forgot to let us know she could and would go from oomphy to grisly without bothering about the strange range of moods that this bizarre film covers. Don't blame her. It's the atmosphere of constant hyper-activity that Kamal Haasan with some help from director Ravi Kumar creates. Some of the aerial action sequences are no doubt breathtaking. And a couple of Kamal Hassan's avatars especially the Japanese samurai and the wizened senile woman looking for her long-lost son are outright awesome. By the time the old lady thinks she has found her son, the director has lost the plot. Completely. This film is more a triumph of prosthetic excesses than creative passion. Dashavtar is not a bad film. It's worse. It's an insufferable self-indulgent film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 18 Apr 2009 | 8:47 am Phalke Kalptaru award to Prithvi Raj KapoorDadasaheb Phalke Academy is organizing an award function on 4th May to commemorate with 140th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke at Bhaidas Auditorium, where many film dignitaries will be felicitated. How perfect is this saying in the case of the recently wedded Bollywood lass Amrita Arora. After a three day wedding ceremony, Amrita and her hubby Shakeel Ladhak have set off on the blissful path of a married life. Bollywood Hungama came across these images that shout out the idyllic life these two are currently enjoying. Amrita and Shakeel are back from their three-week honeymoon in Europe. The ever shimmering lass describes her honeymoon as nothing but a fantastic road trip. The couple had originally planned to go to Mexico, but had to change the venue because of the civil strife there. The trip, which was entirely planned by Shakeel, started from Barcelona to Spain, Paris, Italy, Capri, Venice, Florence and London. Amrita, who is known for being a shopoholic was for a change subdued as the trip was aimed more at exploring the cities and locals they visited. Though most of the destinations are prime shopping spots, Amrita managed to hold her resolute, and by the look of the images, we are certain that she enjoyed herself. One thing is for sure, at the end of their honeymoon, the couple is soaring on cloud nine and we at Bollywood Hungama wish them all the luck for the years to come.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Apr 2009 | 4:40 pm Meet bald and beautilful Cameron Diaz

After having a candid chat with Shreyas at his Waldorf apartments on an extremely hot summer afternoon over a cool, sweet and salty nimbu paani, we almost read the actors mind and figured out his inner most revelation - a politician thinks of the next election but a citizen like Talpade, of the next generation. Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent and UK's Harrow Observer columnist - Devansh Patel finds out more about the intentions of the actor's plunge into the big bad world of politics, his lost faith in the security and judiciary, his advice for the youngsters interested in joining politics and of course...his films, Paying Guest, Click and Aage Se Right. It's a dog eat dog situation when you enter the political battlefield. You ready for it? Well, let me clear the air. I was invited by the CM for the PM's party meet. They all spoke well and we sat there for a good couple of hours. I was accompanied by Subhash Ghai and Manmohan Shetty. I wanted to meet our PM because I respect that person a lot but we didn't get a chance. I wasn't supporting any party as such. I was just invited and I had to honour the invite. Today our job doesn't end by going and voting. It's a little bit more than that. Post 26/11, we all are shaken up. Ab maamla ghar tak aa gaya hain. Today, one has to be a bit more responsible and involved, and if that involvement means me getting into politics, I really don't mind. So may be in the next elections, you'll see my involvement. Poll: Do you think Shreyas will make a good politician? Maybe in the next elections, you'll see my involvement. There is a price you pay when you join politics. How do you deal with it? To a certain extent it is. Every now and then you hear some candidate being shot or murdered. Politics has become dirty. Someone told me that even today; the ratio of good people is more than that of the bad. When this same ratio is flipped, we need to be alarmed about. Having said that, there are lots more educated people coming into politics now and are trying for a change. And things will change. Perhaps it might take two more elections or let's say one more. We have got everything inherited from our ancestors and it's time we give something back to our future generation. It seems you've lost trust somewhere. You're right. I've lost faith completely post 26/11. I don't trust anyone. I just want that faith to come back. The whole idea is to trust someone or someone trusts you. I was in South Africa when the Taj and Trident incident happened. I was there for the next thirty days and missed being part of those rallies and ceremonies. I wanted to be with my India and my people in time of grief. I was frustrated. In fact, post 26/11; people have become a bit responsible if not trustworthy. Post 26/11; people have become a bit responsible if not trustworthy With so many successors ahead of you, as a youngster, how far do you want to reach in politics? Let's say in acting, I want to be number one. I want to be the best and I'll do what I can to compete with SRK, Ranbir Kapoor or whoever. Politics is a completely different ball game all together. Politics is all about coming together than competing with each other. My idea is not to be the PM of India. But even if I can do something in my locality, it'll be great. If I can make my area secured, I've won my election. Quiz: Bollywood stars on the Political horizon How much room is there for idealism in political leadership and achieving your goals? I think idealism is the factor that'll prompt you or motivate you to do certain things. The word idealism exists but it's time we need to give some meaning and depth to it. Each party started off with some ideology and down the line we see that it has gone for a complete toss. Few days back I read an interview where Mr. Sanjay Dutt was asked about his manifesto which stated that the party will ban English and there won't be computers, machines won't be used for farming, etc. When asked Mr. Dutt on his comments about the manifesto, he said, "I was busy campaigning. I didn't have time to read it". My question is - What was Mr. Dutt campaigning about? I think that things are really going wrong somewhere. Is there any room for idealism here? My question is - What was Mr. Sanjay Dutt campaigning about? Do you ever stop and think back how you could've handled things differently if you weren't an actor? I don't know what I would've done. Probably get a stable job in a nationalized bank. And before you ask why a bank job, because there is an inter bank drama competition. That's how my hobby can be fulfilled. If a young person came to you who wanted to live a life of activism, a political life, what would your advice be to him? When I started doing Iqbal, there was one thing that Nagesh Kukunoor told me that if I ever wanted to succeed as an actor, I just needed to be honest with myself and the character I was portraying. I'd like to advice all youngsters to be honest to themselves in whatever they do. What do you see as the biggest challenge ahead? Not just for you and India, but for the world which is heading quick in the 21st century? At the moment, the biggest problem we are facing is security. Every side and part of the world is under tremendous tension. We are more worried now and want to find out who has come to live next to us, meaning our neighbours. Who are they? Where have they come from? etc. The trust and security issue is what we need to handle in the current scenario. Most of our revenue is going in defense services, arms and ammunitions. So if that's the case, why is there a lapse in security each year? Get it sorted man! Most of our revenue is going in defense services, arms and ammunitions. So why is there a lapse in security each year? Tomorrow if you join politics, what would be your Indian Dream? Everybody wants to see India on the global map, the next super power, etc. That's secondary. I want to get my faith back and that's my primary concern. And not just me. The whole nation wants to get their sense of security and faith in the political scenario and the security of our country. If they can do that, I'll be like a King. That for me is my Indian Dream. Shreyas says faith in security is his dream for India. Click here and share your dream for India with Shreyas From a serious topic, let's move on to a bit on the light side. Films. Do you think post the strike; many films are going to suffer. I mean, there is always a right time and the right place for films to release? I completely agree with you. I also feel that today people can smell films. They see the first promo and the first poster of the film and decide whether they want to go and watch it or not. But if your story is good, it'll work and recover its money, and that's not rocket science. For some films, a lot of word of mouth is required. My first film was pitted against No Entry. Still both films worked in some way or the other. Take us through Click Click is a horror thriller film directed by Sangeeth Sivan. I've worked with him in Apna Sapna Money Money. Actually, people see him as a comedy director but I guess his forte is suspense thrillers and horror. We've got some very good songs in the film too. And this is my first ever horror film. So I'm looking forward to it. And Paying Guest? It's a story of four friends who are staying as PG's out of India. One fine day they are kicked out from the place they are staying and the job they are doing. Due to certain circumstances, they have no place to live and no work to do. One lie to another and the balloon bursts. What about Aage Se Right? Aage Se Right is a comedy flick with a Pink Panther sort of humour. It's not slapstick. It's a UTV and Ronnie film. It's a story about a cop who loses his gun and there is a terrorist in the film too. He finds his gun but again the gun goes somewhere else. It's a bizarre thought but it's something never been made before. It's because of the one wrong 'right' turn I take and what happens. Are you happy in the small space you've made for yourself in the industry? I am very happy. I am also ambitious and want to grow and achieve a lot of things. I know I will but want to give a bit of time to it. I want to stay here for a long time. So with the pace I'm going, I am safe and sound. But in my entire journey, I'd love to work with Raj Kumar Santoshi because I think he has got a very honest and an aggressive approach towards all his films. Mani Ratnam is the next director I'd love to work with because of his superb and diverse filmography. Having said that, I've also worked with a completely different school of directors. From Nagesh and Shyam Benegal to Farah Khan.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Apr 2009 | 11:08 am I can't afford to wear dirty clothes: Kalki
