Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 16 Apr 2009 | 10:40 am SRK - Salman to clash? If all goes well, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan will come face to face on July 3. The clash is purely professional, what with their respective films - SRK's DULHA MIL GAYA and Salman's WANTED - hitting the screens on that Friday. DULHA MIL GAYA producer Viveck Vaswani is eyeing 3rd July because "July 4 is Independence Day in America and Shah Rukh enjoys a massive following there. I would like to capitalize on the Independence Day weekend," Viveck tells me. Which means DULHA MIL GAYA will clash with Salman Khan's WANTED. "If Boney Kapoor says he's committed for 3rd July and requests me to shift my film to another week, I will do so. But so far there haven't been any talks," Viveck clarifies. DULHA MIL GAYA is far from complete. Reportedly, SRK's portions remain to be filmed. "The talkie is complete. Just one qawwali remains to be shot, which can be included at the last minute too," Viveck reveals. He also rubbishes rumours that SRK has delayed the film. "Shah Rukh had informed me at the very outset of his busy schedule and the possibility of the film getting delayed. The delay is not because of him, it's because of me. An important schedule went haywire when my father passed away. Later, Shah Rukh suffered an injury on my sets, hence things have been pushed forward." Meanwhile, DULHA MIL GAYA continues to remain in news. The latest is, Anil Ambani's Big Pictures has relinquished the rights of the project. True? "Yes, they have. The withdrawal was due to re-strategizing the company, given the current economic scenario. But I'll offer them the film once it's ready. If they want to pick up the rights then, it's okay. Else, the money invested by Big will be refunded at the time of release," he states.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Apr 2009 | 10:33 am Bangarubabu to hit the theatres on May 1The Jagapatibabu-Meera Jasmine starrer Bangarubabu directed by Jonnalagadda Srinivasa Rao, presented by Dasari Padma and produced by K Ramakrishna Prasad under the banner of Sowbhagya Media Ltd is all set for release on May 1. And now Arundhati is all set to be remade into Hindi. Many producers including Ghajini's Madhu Mantena were vying for the Hindi remake rights. But the producer of the Telugu version M. Shyam Prasad Reddy has decided to remake the film in Hindi. Sonu Sood who played the main antagonist in the Telugu film and is all set to encore the same part in Hindi, confirms these developments. Confirming these developments Sood says, "I'm excited because we all worked very hard on making the Telugu original something special. Lots of producers wanted to remake it in Hindi. But now the original producer has decided to go for it. The Hindi Arundhati will be far more expensive and polished. We start shooting in June. " Sood has already started preparing for the part. "The Hindi version will have to be severely revised." The remakes expert Priyadarshan was approached to direct Arundhati in Hindi. Apparently Priyan has no time at such short notice. "And the original director Kodi Ramkrishna can't understand Hindi. So we're probably going with a guy named Rahul who did all the special effects in Tamil." And now for the most crucial question. Who plays the central role of Arundhati in this woman-dominated film? Though no one is willing to commit to any name sources reveal that the makers of Arundhati were very keen to sign Anushka Sharma who starred with Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Says the source, "They needed someone strong robust young and determined and very North Indian as the lead in Hindi. They really wanted Anushka Sharma. She was perfect. But the producer was under the impression that she's under contract with Yashraj Films and unable to do any outside film. Now they might settle for the actress who played the lead in the Telugu Arundhati in Hindi. Coincidentally her name too is Anushka." Surprisingly, Arjan (Fashion) Bajwa who played the romantic lead in Arundhati is not part of the Hindi remake. When questioned, Arjan says, "They haven't asked me. Even if they had I wouldn't do it. Have you seen what has been done to my role in the Telugu film?"Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Apr 2009 | 9:42 am Siddharth Anand's next to star Ranbir, Priyanka? After teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor in the hit film 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', director Siddharth Anand has signed his childhood buddy for his next film too. For starters, it was actually Lara's decision of moving to Mumbai from her hometown Bangalore to pursue a career in modelling, that paved her way to become one of the '24-7 twinkling stars' of the tinsel town. Lara is often hailed as the 'thinking man's actress', who has no qualms in calling a spade a spade. A few of her 'hearti-facts' in Bollywood can be witnessed ( read 'experienced') in films like Andaaz, Khakee, Masti, Kaal, No Entry, Partner... to name a few. The fact also remains that the whole of Bollywood is waiting for the release of this PYT's next biggie titled Blue, more eagerly than scientists waiting for the Halley's Comet! Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 15 Apr 2009 | 4:02 pm Randeep Hooda wins silver medal at the prestigious Delhi Horse ShowRandeep Hooda has taken a sabbatical from acting to focus on his other passion, horses. And the passion has paid off. Last week at the prestigious 'Delhi Horse Show' Randeep and his two horses Ranji and Johnny Walker won a silver medal in the national dressage category which is considered by equestrians to be the toughest category in the competition. No individual from any section of the Indian film industry has won a medal at the Delhi Horse Show. Trying hard to be modest about it, Randeep says, "The 'Delhi Horse Show' is the toughest because I had to compete against horse riders who were 'Arjun' and 'Padma Shri' winners. It's normally impossible for a non-specialized rider to win at this venue. That I managed to win a silver medal and that too in the toughest category proves that horse riding is fast catching up my acting as my predominant passion." The presage requires the connectivity between the rider and his horse to be displayed in the subtlest of ways. Explains Randeep, "You can't make 'horse noises' to the horse nor spur it on with hands, legs or a stick. It's entirely to do with your communication level almost elevated to a telepathic link, between the horse and the rider." Randeep won the prestigious silver medal from out of a 170 entries in Delhi. Full credit goes to my horses Ranji and Johnny Walker. I owned 8 horses. But I gave 2 away to a couple of new horse learners. I love my horses." Now the horse-riding season is over. And Randeep wants to get back to serious acting. "But horse riding will always be special. I think I'm the only professional horse rider from the movie industry. Strangely, I've seen no men from the industry at equestrian events. Though I've seen some ladies like Dia Mirza and Lara Dutta at the race course. Women by the way, make superior horse riders."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Apr 2009 | 3:32 pm Anurag Kashyap on the cover of 'andpersand'He is someone who dared to be 'different' in true sense of the word, for he is none other than Anurag Kashyap, the 'new age' filmmaker who, through his films, dared to go the zara hat ke way. The 2009 edition of MIPTV, which concluded the week before last, threw up everything we knew about the global recession - there were absolutely no surprises but what frustrates me is the alarming alacrity with which people make sweeping generalizations and blame just about anything on the prevailing recession. The cold winds of economic depression have been blowing over every film market in the year gone by - the Riviera was no exception. Every time a market nears completion, be it AFM or EFM, MIPCOM or MIPTV, one hears the usual moans and groans from exhibitors and sellers about dipping business and therefore the cost-effectiveness of these markets. "There were no buyers," is the most commonly heard allegation. For content creators and acquirers like us, selling multi-rights of tent-pole Bollywood features to the world, there was no doubt that buyers' attendance, particularly from the US, was substantially down. There were fewer walk-ins into the stand than in the preceding years, and by Day 3, the wind-down to the 5-day market had already started. But the commonly hurled allegation (above) is not entirely true. The doom and gloom projected by attendees lacks perspective. There were acquisition executives aplenty - what has changed is that these execs are operating with substantially hacked budgets, which has, in turn, made their quest for content narrow, cautious and focused. This means that because buyers know what they want before they come down to the market, they are extremely selective about the companies they want to meet up and do business with. As this breed of buyers is likely to be the real deal-making breed, contrary to popular perception, I believe this is good news, as distributors like us have extremely targeted meetings with the people who matter. Another by-result of this extreme selectiveness is that even after buyers have narrowed down the format of content (feature films, documentaries, short films, reality shows, game shows, television series, animation, etc.) they are looking for, they are finicky about the quality of what they have zeroed down upon. Broadcasters and aggregators for multiple platforms must acquire content that is promotable and rates well with consumers and advertisers. This has resulted in much of the content getting previewed before the market begins or viewed post the market and vetted before an offer is put on table. A downside of this though is the buyers' 'value for money' philosophy, which means that in many cases the pricing offered is not commensurate with the stature and caliber of content. None of this may be a good thing for small-time sellers looking for short-term gains by palming off their large sub-standard libraries for throwaway prices, or for the blue-chip sellers looking for attractive prices for their quality content. Holistically, I believe that while the prevailing mood might not result in instant sales at the desired prices but in the long-run, this patience and filtering in the interest of quality control will be healthy for the industry. It will prevent sub-standard content offered by the marginal right holders from seeping in, consequently solidifying the strength and position of the persevering big boys that own quality tent-pole product.
