Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 11 Apr 2009 | 3:07 pm Celebrating Easter with Genelia DsouzaDownload image as wallpaper The auspicious Easter Day has great significance globally. To find out how Bollywood celebrates this auspicious day, we at Bollywood Hungama spoke to God's very own angel Genelia Dsouza, to know what Easter means to her and her plans to celebrate the day. Not just that, we also managed to get the recipe of her favourite Easter dish 'Marzipan.' Speaking of the festival, Genelia says, "Easter, for me and my family, is an absolute feast of the highest order. It's generally the lunch that holds the spotlight on this day. After having fasted for forty days (without eating any non-vegetarian food), we feast on this day. Being Catholics, we have lots of salad on this day. Not just that, since bread holds huge significance, we have oodles of different types of bread, thus making Easter a very special day." And when asked about her plans to celebrate Easter, the Jaane Tu... girl was quick enough to say, "Every Easter for us is very special and a very private affair and it consists of my family and friends. I term every Easter as a new beginning." Lastly, the 'icing' on the cake, came in the form of her recipe for 'Marzipan', though she was candid enough to confess that, it's not her, but her Mom who makes the Marzipans (which according to her are the best in the world)! So, feast your taste-buds with the world-class Marzipans, courtesy: Genelia Dsouza! She says, "The basic ingredients that are required to make Marzipan are 1-2 cups of granulated sugar, 1/8 tsp cream, 3-4 cups of ground almonds, and 2 egg whites and not to forget the powdered sugar for sprinkling over. The preparation time will take approximately 10 minutes. To start with, place the sugar alongwith 2-3 cups of water in a large heavy saucepan and heat gently, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. To this, now, add the cream and heat it for a while and then, cool it. Then cover it, for say 2-3 minutes. Then, boil the said mixture till it becomes soft. Now, take this pan and cool its bottom in cold water, while you are simultaneously stirring the sugar mixture constantly until it becomes thick and creamy. Now add to it the egg whites and the fine almonds and stir it over a mild flame for almost 3 minutes till the time the mixture becomes thick and cool the same. Lastly, roll the same over the fine sugar and knead the 'Marzipan' till it becomes smooth." After this, its FEAST time folks! Happy Easter guys! Happy Easter to you too, Genelia!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Apr 2009 | 3:05 pm Reasons why Akshay starrer 8X10 Tasveer failed at the Box OfficeWhile earlier this year there were accusations that media had killed Chandni Chowk To China, there are no excuses whatsoever for 8X10 Tasveer which has been given a Thumbs down by audience itself. The film has been out rightly rejected by the paying public, as reflected from the steep fall that the film has witnessed ever day since its Friday release. Says a prolific producer who has been making films for close to a decade, "I am genuinely disappointed with the flop show of 8X10 Tasveer. Even though I have never worked with Akshay and may not be working with him in near future too due to the tight budgets in which I operate, I carry no ill will for the actor." However, audiences haven't really shown similar sentiments for Akshay Kumar as they have distanced themselves completely from the film after some very poor word of mouth that the film has been subjected to over the last few days. For any big budget film with an A list star cast, the least it manages to do is take an initial and then crash if the product is bad. That's the minimum the makers of 8X10 Tasveer would have expected from an Akshay Kumar starrer. So what really went wrong with the film not even managing to take a good opening? Lack of hit music is the reason stated by Sajid Khan. "Thrillers and suspense films have to always have hit music. Right from Teesri Manzil to JewelThief to Johnny Mera Naam to current generation films like Gupt, Humraaz, Raaz and Race - each of these films had one thing in common - Superhit music", says Sajid Khan who would soon be beginning to shoot Housefull with Akshay Kumar. The film's failure has left many shocked though who felt that there would be some life booster for the industry which is seeing a slow death in 2009. "It is depressing to see such a big budget film failing because what industry needed today, especially before going to the strike, was a big money spinner. You never know, it may have kept some moolah rolling for next 4-6 weeks after which it is anyways expected that the strike would be called off", comments a trade insider. Vivek Agnihotri, director of films like Chocolate and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, is quite vocal though while stating his reasons behind the film's poor box office performance. As per the filmmaker, the problem lied with the casting and genre. "I saw the film in an empty theater. One of the main reasons why I think the film didn't even take an opening is due to Akshay's brand promise which is pure entertainment. I think makers couldn't exploit it", he reflects, "As a result, they not just wasted an opportunity but also annoyed viewers who love Akshay. Also, no one understood the genre of the film." He also doesn't hesitate in going all out in blaming the poor handling of the subject. "Cinema is all about making illogical sound logical", says Vivek, "8X10 Tasveer went on a path where it made logic sound illogical and as a result fell flat. What a waste of talent, an awesome opportunity and money which this industry needs so badly." "Let's not blame the media this time around", says a filmmaker (on condition of anonymity) who has given numerous back to back hits, "Audience can sense a bad product from a far distance and this time around the promos too couldn't do the trick. No wonder, the film didn't even take an opening since audience was just not kicked enough to make a beeline in front of theaters." Sajid Khan too believes that promos play an integral part in decision making amongst the audience. "The logic is simple", he says, "If your film has good music, you would promote it more than the talkie portions since you would want your audience to explore the film by themselves. 8X10 Tasveer has bad music with not a single hit song. Due to this, makers were left with no other choice but to beam talkie portions in the film's promotion. As a result, audience realized what in advance what the film was all about and didn't show any inclination of catching it in theaters." While quite a few other filmmakers and actors took a 'No Comments' stance around their views for the film or simply refrained from answering by stating that they hadn't seen the film, a young one film old director (who saw reasonable success coming his way recently) winked, "I don't think audience has patience to watch a serious film in the garb of an entertainer. I would rather go and spend my money on an out and out commercial fare than watch something which only tries to be smart without being one."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Apr 2009 | 1:24 pm Two movies - 20 people in auditoriumIn this write up below, Joginder Tuteja shares his experience of watching the first two films that have released post the beginning of producers v/s multiplexes stand of! Five Hindi films released yesterday and I braved to watch at least two films in theaters. So what if I knew that there won't be anything worthy to entertain me and I would be greeted by empty theaters. Still, I decided to go to the theaters. No wonder, I came back partly amused, partly frustrated with a big question in my head - 'Given the ongoing stand off between the producers and the multiplexes, till when would audience get subjected to such films?' I had a choice to pick two films between Ek Se Bure Do, Coffee House, Pal Pal Dil Ke Saath, School Days and Royal Utsav. So let me first talk about the ones that I ignored. Pal Pal Dil Ke Saath - Now I really wanted to see this film for two reasons. a) Ajay Jadeja had made his entry into Bollywood with Sunny Deol starrer KHEL and I wanted to see whether he had improved over a period of time, b) Mahie Gill - now this one was supposed to be her debut film before the passage of time made us have a look at her for the first time in Dev D and Gulaal. However, to my horror, the film didn't find a 'respectable' release and was playing in a multiplex that was 1.5 hours drive from my home and that too only on a single show. Sorry, too far away. Let me see it on DVD (if at all it arrives on it)! School Days - Now is that a Hindi movie, an English movie, a dubbed movie from the South - No idea! In fact I got to know about the existence of this movie for the first time on Friday morning when I was checking the show timings of the new releases. And suddenly this name comes up - School Days. Aaah interesting. But then the same problem. It has arrived only on one show and that clashes with my favorite movie of the week - Ek Se Bure Do (more about this later)! Strike Two! Royal Utsav - Ahem ahem, should I watch it? But then it appears to be a soft porn in the offering with pre-historic setting to it (remember Alexander - The Great, the film's poster suggests it has something to do with him). But then I see Mona Lisa's name topping the star cast. The same girl who has been the leading lady of films like Tauba Tauba, Jalwa - Fun In Love, Bobby - Love And Lust, Phir Tauba Tauba and more. Yeah, now I 'definitely' want to watch it! But then kisi ne mujhe dekh liya toh? No way, let me skip it! So I end up making two choices - Ek Se Bure Do and Coffee House. The show timings are still dicey but guess I would be able to pull this one off! Movie: Ek Se Bure Do Time: 3PM Location: A single screen theater (Why a single screen theater? Because time and again one comes across a statement that 'This film has been made for single screen audiences in smaller towns and cities'. Hence, when I heard about the release of Ek Se Bure Do, I thought of checking it out at a single screen theater. It was sheer nostalgia around seeing a film belonging to this genre that drove me there) Occupancy: 15 people (No they were not critics who were paid to watch the film. They came at their own will) Verdict: After gaining the rich experience of watching the film in a single screen theater after like more than half a decade, I came to realize that not a single individual was left amused with this horrific tale. Side effects: My 4 year old son (whom I lured to accompany me because no one else was willing to) dozed off in 10 minutes flat! After some evening rendezvous and a dinner later, I decide to watch second film of the week - Coffee House. Yes, I pull in my son again, this time with a promise of 'Burger Popcorn Combo' (he loves it!). So here we go. Movie: COFFEE HOUSE Time: 10:55 PM Location: A posh multiplex Occupancy: 5 people (I was surprised that the multiplex was still willing to bear the cost of running a show for a handful of people) What happened inside the theater: There is a couple sitting in the middle of the audi. They both smile at me as I carry my son in my arms and enjoy the luxury of sitting wherever I want. The lady out there must have thought that 'Hey, looks like this guy has had a tiff with his wife and has been shown the door for the rest of the night'. Sorry to disappoint you ma'm if you are already gossiping about this with the women in your neighborhood. Verdict: The cleaners came 15 minutes before the show was supposed to end. It was close to 1AM and they were probably wondering - If they would be nice enough to leave the film early, we could finish our job sooner and go home! Sorry bhai, I waited till the end credits rolled. No one else in the audi did that though! Side effects: The Candy bar guy came in thrice during the show and asked if I would like to have some popcorn. I said - 'Free mein hai to le aayo warna rehne do'! He smiled, I smiled and we had a hearty laugh over the issue that multiplexes are facing - NO MOVIES, NO AUDIENCE, NO POPCORN SALES! And yes, before I forget to tell, my son slept off again in 10 minutes flat. Sorry beta, I will treat you with your 'Burger Popcorn Combo' once the strike is off. Maybe then we will be back to happier times!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Apr 2009 | 1:11 pm Salman and I aren't a couple: Asin
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 11 Apr 2009 | 1:02 pm Richard Gere to feature in Teen Patti along with Amitabh BachchanLooks like Leena Yadav's playing her cards quite well. Our UK sources have confirmed another big Hollywood star roped in to share screen space with our one and only Big B. It seems that the presence of our mighty, legendary and iconic actor is surely pulling the crowd from L.A. The West meets the East season continues with gears changing thick and fast on the celluloid track, and the one to win the race this time around is the humanitarian and actor, Richard Gere. You heard it right! Hollywood's favourite lover boy of the late 80's and early 90's is all set to share screen space in his first Bollywood film this year alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Gere visits India frequently as he shares a great rapport with the industrialists and socialites for the AIDS cause he has taken up since quite a few years now. The sad part is that he will not be shooting for the film in India. Our sources from the UK have also confirmed that the actor has watched quite a number of Bollywood films in the recent past. What's surprising is that he has seen Shilpa Shetty and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Lal Baadshah after Shetty won the coveted crown of the Celebrity Big Brother. Teen Patti's last schedule goes under way in London from next week with Big B and Richard Gere. The last time you must've seen both the actors share space together was in London's Madame Tussaud's. Now the same city is playing the host to bring the two icons of world cinema together which is creating a spark in the film fraternity. But a different kind of spark was created when the Hollywood star was seen the last time he visited India. Remember Gere planting a kiss on Shilpa after her Big Brother win in the UK and was taken for a ride by the Indian media and the law for his indecent behaviour on stage? All said and done, Leena is sharing a great bond with Richard Gere we hear and is quite happy to have him for the film. After Sylvester Stallone, who will make his debut in Bollywood with Kambakkht Ishq, Richard Gere will be the next big Hollywood star to watch out for in B-town.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:53 pm No more films after `My Name Is Khan`: `Slumdog` kid! After playing the `middle` Jamal in "Slumdog Millionaire", Tanay Cheda is set to star in "My Name Is Khan" in which his grownup version will be essayed by no less than Shah Rukh Khan.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Winehouse `snubbed` Eminem`s offer to feature in `Relapse` !Eminem`s dig on Amy Winehouse in his latest single seems to make sense after reports emerged that the singer snubbed the rapper`s offer to feature in his comeback album `Relapse`.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Kareena Kapoor goes super trendy in `Kambakkht Ishq`!Kareena Kapoor, aspires to bring fashion revolution with every film.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm I feel a sense of comfort with Sudhir Mishra, says Chitrangada Singh!Dusky actress Chitrangada Singh is playing important roles in two of Sudhir Mishra`s projects and says she is getting repeat roles in his films is thanks to her sense of "comfort and responsibility" with the director.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Ray`s films on economic hardship still resonate, says NYT !As a perspective of Satyajit Ray`s films opens in New York Wednesday, the New York Times says the great Indian director`s films dealing with economic hardship may resonate strongly with audiences during the current downturn.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Eminent Hindi writer Vishnu Prabhakar passes away!Noted Hindi litterateur Vishnu Prabhakar, who has several short stories, novels, plays and travelogues to his credit, passed awaySource: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Publisher to release new batch of Vonnegut stories!A posthumous collection of short stories by Kurt Vonnegut will be released this November.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Kelly Brook is Danny Cipriani`s favourite squeeze! !Sexy Kelly Brook and her rugby star boyfriend Danny Cipriani were recently spotted during their Carribean holiday where the pair was getting intimate with each other.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm `Amitabh Bachchan`s persona overshadows a character`!Amitabh Bachchan has a huge fan following which includes noted director Rakeysh Mehra.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 11 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Kate Hudson's romance with Wilson is off

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 11 Apr 2009 | 10:35 am Madhavan takes 13 B director for a holiday to create a sequelSomeone somewhere has jumped the gun rather badly. Not only have there been announcements in sections of the media about a sequel to the fairly successful spook story 13 B, there's also talk of two sequels with the titles 13 C and 13 D. But the 13 B leading man Madhavan is clueless about these sequels. ''We did 13 B and that was a great experience. A sequel would depend entirely on whether we have a suitable script or not. We aren't jumping on the sequel bandwagon just because it's the done thing right now. Doesn't take long for the done thing to become the dumb thing.'' Maddy has thought of an ingenious method of getting a sequel out of the imagination. He has decided to take his 13 B director Vikram Kumar on all all-expenses paid holiday. ''I'm taking Vikram to the Middle East. Just me and him. Two boys doing all the rugged outdoor stuff like bungee jumping and mountain climbing. Sooner or later an idea for a sequel is bound to come up in that adventurous environment. Even if it doesn't we'll come back after loads of fun. So it's a win-win situation.'' The Tamil version of 13 B is such a hit that the Tamil version of Ram Gopal Varma's Darling (remember the film with Esha Deol playing a ghost?) featuring Madhavan and Shamita Shetty is now being released.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 11 Apr 2009 | 9:57 am Slumdog kid will be seen as young SRK in Karan Johar's My Name Is KhanAt least one child protegee has been spared the trauma of underage overexposure. Tanay Chheda, who plays the protagonist Jamal's childhood avatar in Slumdog Millionaire, has had his share of fame and recognition, at least for now. He wants to concentrate on his studies and focus on just that one film. "And that's Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan. I play the childhood portions of Shah Rukh Khan's role. It's a small role and a very important film. And it will be shot during my holidays. Except for My Name Is Khan, my parents have decided to let me concentrate on my studies." Tanay is shifting from his current school Campion in Colaba to the Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Bandra and is geared up for a new life in a new school. He completely dismisses stories of replacing Darsheel Safary in Anil Monga's film Padduram. "I don't know where that came from. I haven't said yes to any such film," protests Tanay. Tanay who played Darsheel Safari's best friend in Taare Zameen Par got the role of the younger Jamal in Slumdog Millionaire by chance. "I couldn't go to the auditions. But, eight months later, they came to my school for auditions. Luckily by chance, I got the role. They had to work a lot on my physical appearance to make me look compatible with Ayush who played the youngest Jamal. They straightened my curly hair, etc. Also, they had to darken all of us three who played Jamal (Ayush, Tanay and Dev Patel) to look like we were constantly exposed to the sun. My makeup used to take 90 minutes every day." And he will now be playing the role of junior Shah Rukh Khan in Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan, a decision that Karan took after watching Slumdog Millionaire, says the 12-year son of a business family whose life has transformed almost overnight. "My family and friends are very proud of me. It feels really good. For my friends I'm still the same Tanay. I'm a movie freak. When I walked the red carpet, I could recognize everyone who walked by," he says. Tanay has to sit for his elocution exams at Trinity College in London. "But coping with the studies is no problem. All my teachers have been very co-operative. Half of Slumdog Millionaire was shot during my vacations." Surprisingly, Tanay says acting is a hobby. "Right now, I just want to enjoy my childhood. I'm passionate about football. And I love to write. I've lots of stories to tell. As far as movies are concerned, my next release is Mastang Mama, where Ruslaan Mumtaz and I play mama-bhanja. I know that another Slumdog may not happen. But like my dialogue in film goes, it's all about destiny." Tanay misses the Slumdog team. "But we keep meeting for premieres and awards function. And we all keep in touch through the email. We were all one big family."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 11 Apr 2009 | 9:39 am Sex scenes to lead The Unforgettable into Censor trouble? In their debut English film The Unforgettable, the director duo of Arsala Qureshi and Sabrina Louis has incorporated quite a few sex scenes in this steamy dramatic affair. However, in spite of frontal nudity being on display in the film, both the women are quite hopeful that Censor Board in India would be liberal and not chop off these scenes. ''We can only keep our fingers crossed and leave the rest to the Censor Board'', says Sabrina, who once played hockey and even represented India in a test series with Germany before turning a filmmmaker. She adds, ''We are hoping that things have changed for the better with the Censor Board which has become far more understanding in the years gone by and is ready to accept the film maker's point of view.'' Both Sabrina and Arsala insist that the film is strictly for the adults, not just due to ample skin show but also due to the complex theme, that's centered on a man-woman relationship that The Unforgettable explores. ''That's the reason we are not asking for PG 13 rating'', says Arsala who was born in Aligarh, lived in Switzerland and Saudi Arabia, and soon after embraced filmmaking as a career. ''Our film would be released internationally this season and we have clarity around the market that we are looking at exploring. We are looking at that segment of audience to watch the film which wants to move away from routine clichéd 'pyaar mohabbat' and holier than thou affair.'' Since sex plays an integral part in the film, how do the scenes depicting it, carry forward the narrative? Sabrina is quick to defend, ''See, most of the movies today show a lot of skin, so, I disagree if someone makes a statement that sex is ample in The Unforgettable. Yes, it is an integral part of the narrative and has been done quite aesthetically shown. However, it is the requirement of the setup that required such scenes to be shot rather than our own personal liking.'' ''If you ask me, I don't even know if sex is really the right word here", Arsala brings her point of view, "I look as the man and the woman in my film to be the two characters, who are quite comfortable with their skin and know what they want for it. If it happens to be sex, then be it." Sabrina goes on to philosophize, "In any case, aren't we all the creations of sex? Aren't we in this world because two people were so desirous of each other and hence led to our birth? So what's wrong in feeling it that way and be open about your own desires?" "I don't know why but majority of us filmmakers out there love to portray our women as all 'sati-savitri'', says Arsala, as she opens up further, "We never portray them as someone who could have her own desire." She also has a thing or two to say about the way women are portrayed on television. "We keep finding similar characters with similar outlook towards life. But are we talking about a real world here? Don't women give their own beliefs, desires and expectations? This is the subject that we have played around with, in The Unforgettable." Pitched as a film about two extreme characters (played by Raji James and Sofia Hayat), The Unforgettable is touted as a film that defies all the rules and stereotypes. While the man completely believes in control of all desires, the woman feels that one should just surrender to the desires if need arises. In fact, she is someone who is not just strong, but also ruthless enough when it comes to meeting her own desires. Screened at The Berlin Film Festival last year, The Unforgettable would be releasing on 8th May in India.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Apr 2009 | 9:35 am Jimmy Sheirgill, Gul Panag join the cast of Abhinay Deo's CrookedTwo real -life pairs are planning to do their own 'Bourne Identity'.
