Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 7 Apr 2009 | 12:40 pm Aamir's director Rajkumar Gupta's next titled No One Killed JessicaNow it can be told. The talented director of Aamir, Rajkumar Gupta's next film entitled No One Killed Jessica is actually based on the sensational Jessica Lal case. The model was gunned down in a restaurant on April 29, 1999. The director whose edgy hard-hitting drama Aamir swept the nation in 2008 intends to give the same gritty treatment to the Jessica Lal case which rocked the nation. Reluctant to shed light on the project, Gupta says, "I did approach Kareena Kapoor initially to play one of the two protagonists. But nothing more can be said about the casting right now. All I can say at this moment is that the film and its script which I've just completed is inspired by a headline that I saw in The Times Of India in 2006 which said, 'No One Killed Jessica'(when all the accused in the sensational case were acquitted). It immediately set me thinking. Over the years, as the case dragged on, that headline acquired immense ironical overtones." No One Killed Jessica will star two leading female performers in the age group of 27 and 30. A gritty bio-pic on Jessica Lal's murder is not the only surprise the Aamir director drops on us this week. He has also written the script for Barah Aana. Though Gupta is all for the way first-timer Raja Menon has directed his script, he admits he would film the script different. "I'd have made Barah Aana edgier, grittier and fast- paced. That's the treatment I had envisaged for the screenplay. Also it isn't clear in the film why Naseeruddin Shah's character doesn't speak. He just looks angry. The fact is the character has nothing more to say to the world. This aspect doesn't come across in the film." Also much as Gupta likes young Arjun Mathur as an actor, he thinks Mathur is a miscast as a Bihari waiter in Barah Aana. "I'd have cast someone like Deepak Dobriyal. But that's neither here nor there. Barah Aana is fine the way it is." Would Gupta write more scripts for other directors? "I don't know. Barah Aana was a commitment before I directed Aamir. Right now my concentration is on casting for No One Killed Jessica. I just hope I don't end up casting whoever is available. I need two very strong young actresses." The actresses will play Jessica and her sister who fought for justice on Jessica's behalf.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Apr 2009 | 12:38 pm Shilpa Shetty on the cover of Cosmopolitan'Shilpa Shetty: She has got balls!' screams the headline of the latest issue of 'Cosmopolitan'. With Shilpa doing so many things these days be it IPL, films, television etc., one would wonder if she is a human being or a superwoman in disguise. The pretty actor says that when it comes to a performance oriented role, it could well be the biggest ever till date. Well, if the graph of her character that she plays in Jashn indeed turns out to be even better than that of her character as Anil Kapoor's love interest in Salaam-E-Ishq, then it could well turn out to be true. "No wonder, I can stand up and say that Jashn is very close to my heart", says Anjana fondly, "There is a definite reason behind me saying that. Being so involved with the film for last few months, I have come to realize that I can relate to it at numerous junctures. Yes, there are some moments where the character is not the real me but then there are some strong emotional chords that Jashn touches, which makes it all so believable." What does she mean when she talks about emotional chords being touched? "There are moments in your life which do get reflected in the situation that the character goes through. This is what happened to me as well. I experienced emotions that were pent up within me but came out quite strongly when I was enacting this character. They may have stayed on at a superficial level had I not acted in the film but after working under Bhatt saab's patronage in Jashn, I am glad I could find my own self in the film", Anjana reflects in a philosophical tone. While the film has been directed by the duo of Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwaala, Mahesh Bhatt was there to lend a helping hand and come up with his own suggestions, something that he has done for majority of his films even after taking a voluntary retirement from direction. "His presence on the sets helped because he has his own way of molding his actors. He turns you into something else and I can confidently say that together the entire team of Jashn has come up with a superlative effort", she says with a visible glint in her eye. "My career has just begun but I can proudly say that Jashn is one of my benchmark films. It will have to be some really powerful script and some very good acting by me to beat the work that has gone into making Jashn", announced Anjana who has been in the industry for last four years as a leading lady and will soon be seen in Allah Ke Banday and Tum Milo Toh Sahi in months to come.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Apr 2009 | 10:12 am 'Tasveer' fails expectations, joins A-list duds in 2009There were huge expectations from Akshay Kumar-starrer '8X10 Tasveer', but the supernatural thriller has failed to impress audiences and fallen flat at the box office.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 7 Apr 2009 | 9:00 am Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa shooting extended! - Galatta.com
Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 7 Apr 2009 | 8:16 am Strike: Aamir, SRK to address media todayIt's common knowledge that the producers/distributors [United Producers/Distributors Forum] has decided against screening any new film at multiplexes from 4th April onwards. However, a few reports in the media seem to suggest that the strike is for a limited period and the flow of new releases will recommence from 1st May onwards. Not true! The strike called by the United Forum is for an indefinite period. The standoff continues with no solution in sight, while you are reading this news-piece. Another misconception that needs to be clarified pertains to the release dates. Will it get chaotic once the United Forum calls off the strike? Or will there be a systematic way of releasing new films? The Forum has decided to sit together and chalk out the release dates. For instance, a film announced for 17th April [before the strike was implemented] will be given preference over the film slated for release on 24th April or 1st May. No jumping of queue will be encouraged. Right now, all release dates are uncertain till the United Forum calls off the strike. PS: Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh are holding a press conference together today [Tuesday] to champion the producers/distributors' cause. It's interesting to note that the two superstars have set aside all personal differences to address this issue. Bravo!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Apr 2009 | 6:57 am Whom are we fooling? It's fashionable to highlight film reviewers' ratings in newspaper ads of movies. But, of late, a new trend seems to be catching up. The critics' ratings have been replaced with audience ratings. Last week, the ads of EK - THE POWER OF ONE highlighted "5 stars" - the verdict of the audiences, while the makers of 8 x 10 TASVEER have gone a step ahead. The ad states: "5 stars - audience verdict. 90% opening on Day 1." The interesting part is, even the tall claims failed to lure audiences to cinema halls.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Apr 2009 | 6:54 am Marathi film trounces Akki, Vin DieselSomething like this happens rarely! Imagine a regional film taking on a big-budget Hindi film or a Hollywood biggie at the box-office? Well, that's what happened this week. Everyone was pinning hopes on 8 x 10 TASVEER to lure audiences back to cinema halls. But the talked-about film failed to ignite the box-office. This may come as a surprise to many, but FAST & FURIOUS fared much better than 8 x 10 TASVEER at several screens. However, the film that overshadowed both 8 x 10 TASVEER and FAST & FURIOUS is Mahesh Manjrekar's Marathi film ME SHIVAJIRAJE BHOSALE BOLTOY. The film has taken Maharashtra by storm, it's running to packed houses everywhere. Mahesh Manjrekar, its producer, is thrilled by the response. "I've been flooded with congratulatory calls. I haven't received such feedback ever," he says. Ask Manjrekar if he plans to start a Hindi film next and pat comes the reply, "Of course, but not with stars."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Apr 2009 | 6:52 am Ayan – Review - Oneindia
