Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Mar 2009 | 4:59 pm IIFA Awards 2009 Voting Weekend to be held from 6th - 8th March 2009The countdown to IIFA Awards 2009 has begun and what makes this year's IIFA all the more special is the fact that it completes 10 years of awarding cinematic excellence. In other words, IIFA celebrates a Golden Decade in Indian Cinema. The IIFA Awards 2009 Voting Weekend is scheduled to kick start this Friday, March 6, for members of the Indian film fraternity. Each year, industry stalwarts, actors, directors, producers, technicians, composers and behind the scenes communities cast their votes on the basis of which IIFA comes out with the nominations for the main awards. This year too members of the film fraternity would be exercising their votes on the 6th, 7th and 8th of March- the IIFA Awards 2009 Voting weekend. Around a thousand people on an average from the film industry come in each year to vote at the Weekend. The Technical Award winners and the Popular Award nominations are derived from this voting weekend. Manmohan Shetty who is also an IIFA Advisory Board member seemed excited at the prospect of kick-starting the activities for the 10th Annual IIFA Awards. "IIFA has grown into an event of repute over the last 9 years. This year, being the 10th year of IIFA, the celebrations will be even bigger. The IIFA Voting Weekend is the only event of its kind where the entire film industry comes to vote." Like each year, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan (IIFA Brand Ambassador) will cast the first vote and initiate proceedings. The IIFA Voting process is a stringent and methodical procedure that is closely monitored by Price WaterHouse Coopers (PwC), the official auditors for the event. The popular category nominations are put up on online for the global audience to participate in the final voting process.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Mar 2009 | 4:44 pm Don't divide artists: Rajnikant
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Mar 2009 | 3:53 pm Hollywood hooked on to the Indian film awardsThe Awards season has begun in full swing and this time, apart from keenly following the results of awards such as Screen Awards, Stardust Awards and the recently held Filmfare Awards, Indians world over have even been actively keeping track of popular international awards such as the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and of course the Big Daddy of them all- the Oscars. The reason for this is Danny Boyle's much talked about Slumdog Millionaire which has been pocketing awards by the dozen. The film, which stars a principal Indian star cast and is majorly shot in Mumbai, has been the toast of the nation and the world courtesy its winning streak at award function. The west has now started recognizing our pool of talent after Indians like A.R.Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty bagged the Oscars. Keeping this very situation in mind, this artist paints a funny picture of a bunch of hard-nosed goras eagerly following the Filmfare awards and wondering if they would get to see anyone from Hollywood bag a Filmfare just like the way our 3 musketeers (A.R.Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty) took home the Oscars. The film which stars Kunal Khemu, Sonu Sood, Soha Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Deepal Shaw, Johnny Lever and Asrani promises to be a mixed bag of laughs. Bollywood Hungama has decided to give its viewers a sneak peek into what to expect in this laugh riot. The audience is in for a treat is what the director Umesh Shukla says. "DRJ is a film based on the entire process of filmmaking and Bollywood as a whole. It isn't based on any one particular story as such, so the viewer is taken on a joy ride while this film is being shot." However, there are a few scenes re-enacted from classics like Sholay, DDLJ and Lagaan", to which we are promptly told, "...as DRJ is based on films, we have a film within our film that is being shot. The title of that film is Sholay Se Lagaan Tak. We are not trying to spoof these classics in anyway." The director later adds, "Today when everything has become so intense with the rising prices and the recession coupled with the mounting exam tension, DRJ offers a much needed reprieve from the daily stress and strains in life." Talking about the scenes from the three classics he says, "Yes we have certain scenes that are re-enacted from these classics, but in no way do we want to offend anyone's feelings. Besides once the film is released and the story seen, will you actually understand what I mean. Besides this, these scenes have been done so aesthetically that even the makers of these respective films will have a laugh at DRJ and I am sure will not mind a bit." Concluding our small chat, Umesh Shukla says, "DRJ is going to be a big stress buster this season and I am certain of that. So apart from including three classics, DRJ also has the humour to tickle the audience's funny side."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Mar 2009 | 3:09 pm Sonam Kapoor - first Bollywood actress to be dressed by ChanelSonam Kapoor's metamorphosis as a fashion diva came a full circle at the Filmfare Awards ceremony when she became the only Bollywood actress to wear a specially-designed gown by Paris-based fashion house Chanel.Source: Entertainment News | 3 Mar 2009 | 3:09 pm Freida Pinto scorches the ramp

The nikaah ceremony took place on Sunday, March 1, at Farhan's Colaba restaurant and was attended by only close family and friends. However, a grand reception was held at the CCI lawns yesterday (March 2) night and needless to say Bollywood made its presence felt in large numbers. Among the Bollywood bigwigs who made it to wish the couple were Abhishek & Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay & Manyata Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Raj Babbar, Dino Morea, Bharat Shah, Imtiaz Ali and Nagesh Kukunoor. Given the fact that the groom's father Abu Azmi is an active politician, a number of political heavyweight were also present on this occasion.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Mar 2009 | 2:26 pm Kal Kissne Dekha creates history at Filmfare awardsClick above for more movie stills Vashu Bhagnani is certainly making sure that his son Jackky gets a launch like no newcomer has got before. In the past there have been launch of industry kids and majority of them have arrived with a lot of fanfare. Ranbir Kapoor, Harman Baweja and Imran Khan are just some of the recent examples. Not to be left behind and making his son's launch as nothing less than spectacular, Vashu Bhagnani chose the biggest platform possible in Bollywood cinema for introducing Jackky to the audience. He not just decided to formally launch the music of Kal Kissne Dekha, Jackky's debut vehicle, at the Filmfare awards function but also ensured that Jackky dropped all inhibitions and performed live in front of the audience. That too when his debut release is still a few weeks away. "In the history of Filmfare awards, this has never happened before. It is just unprecedented. Our film Kal Kissne Dekha is the first film ever to have seen a music release at such a prestigious event. I am thrilled", says Vivek Sharma who has been entrusted with the responsibility of directing the launch pad of Jackky and Vaishali Desai. "This is a big and popular platform; just right for a movie like ours which is hardcore commercial entertainer", Vivek comments in a breathless tone as he exits from the function, "This is the mother of all awards and our own Oscars. We couldn't have thought of a better way to let people know that we are coming." "The idea was to create a buzz about the film and I am confident that Vashuji's marketing acumen has done wonders yet again", he says fondly about his producer. It wasn't just a regular music launch as Jackky also enthralled the audience with his dance performance. "Yes, Jackky did perform at the event", confirms Vivek, "I have been shooting with him for so long and have always maintained that he is an exceptional dancer. It's one of his biggest strengths and deserved to come in front of the audience. They should know what to expect from Jackky. He fetched a great response from the audience as he demonstrated his dance moves." Jackky's dance has come for quite some appreciation from Rishi Kapoor as well (he plays a major role in the film too). The veteran actor had earlier said in jest, "In our times, dancing used to be a forced thing. I am happy that we didn't have to dance like this in the era gone by. I would have certainly broken my back if I had to dance to the kind of steps that Jackky has performed on in Kal Kissne Dekha." All ears are now waiting to hear the tunes of Kal Kissne Dekha that has music by Sajid-Wajid. While the album hits the stands on 8th March, the film is aiming for an April release.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Mar 2009 | 2:22 pm Sonam is Bollywood's first babe in Chanel

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Mar 2009 | 12:49 pm Wife slaps serial-kisser Emraan for kissing others! This is not just a sensational headline, written to grab the maximum eyeballs, nor are we resorting to yellow journalism. This is a plain fact, that has been accepted by none other than the very much in love couple Emraan Hashmi and wife Parveen Hashmi. In an exclusive joint interview, given to a reputed International magazine, the couple comes out in the open about their beautiful relationship. They talked about almost everything, right from their courtship days, how Emraan, true to his intense on-screen lover image, stalked and wooed Parveen and kept persuading her till she finally said "Yes", right down to their life after marriage! Well, we all know that Parveen is quite a possessive wife and Emraan has said many times that he will stop kissing as he has a fight with his wife every time he is required to do a kissing scene. But what came as a shock was the revelation that Parveen has slapped Emraan quite a few times for kissing on-screen, during trial shows of the concerned movies. And this was revealed in a very light hearted manner by the couple. Though on many previous occasions, Emraan had given statements that he would stop kissing on-screen after marriage, but he could not stick to his promise, so strong was his image. In fact quite a few films in which Emraan did not kiss failed to set the cash registers ringing. Of course, it is another matter that the films were too bad, but nonetheless the serial kisser is now riding high (despite a lovingly furious wife!) with back to back success via Jannat and Raaz-The Mystery Continues...Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Mar 2009 | 12:45 pm Who inspired Bipasha's hip look? - Apun Ka Choice

Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 3 Mar 2009 | 12:28 pm "13B is not a horror filmâ¦it's a supernatural thriller" - R. MadhavanHe is hailed as the 'Shah Rukh' of the South. His good looks and charismatic smile make girls go weak in their knees. Right from his first Hindi film Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (RHTDM) he has always been appreciated for his good looks and impeccable acting skills. He is none other than R. Madhavan who is all excited about his first attempt at the super-natural genre with 13 B. We caught up with the South Indian actor and were pleasantly surprised to know that Madhavan would be seen a lot more in Hindi films in the days to come. After Mumbai Meri Jaan, you are back with 13B. How does it feel? It feels good yaar. This is a solo lead for me so I am really excited. The promos of 13B look spooky. Could you tell us a little bit more about the film? 13B talks about how in today's times we rely so much on Television that it has become our constant companion. The story explores a scary scenario of what would happen if the T.V. decides who the Boss of the house is and starts taking control of things. Instead of showing you the truth, it starts showing you what it wants you to see which is quite a freaky thought. The story explores a scary scenario of what would happen if the T.V. decides who the Boss of the house is and starts taking control of things Is this your first attempt at horror genre? Yes but let me reiterate that this is not a horror filmâ¦it's a supernatural thriller. A horror film is one where you have gory faces, ghosts, blood etc. This film has none of that. It's a very interesting thriller. You are paired opposite Neetu Chandra for the first time. How was the experience working with her? Very good. Neetu is a very hard-working girl and a thorough professional. Tell us something about the director Vikram. This is his first Hindi film, how has he done? When Vikram came to me with the story, it grabbed my attention. I like to do different kind of films and this was a great opportunity to do that. As a director, Vikram was totally in control of what he wanted for the film. In spite of the presence of stalwarts like P.C. Sreeram, Samir Chanda, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vikram was never inhibited and was completely at ease. Vikram has written a brilliant story and has managed to convey it in a superb way on screen. In 13B, it's not a doll or a pet or a tree but a T.V. set the scares the living daylights of the audience, quite an eerie thought right? It's not the T.V. that scares the audience. It's the attitude of the people. We all like to see negative things on T.V. In a reality show, people enjoy seeing the agony, pain, tears of the participants and the TRP shoots up. Why do we like seeing so much negativity and what could be the repercussions of this is what the film tries to portray? The film has your family moving into 13th floor of an apartment. In a normal scenario, many people would refuse to do so due to superstitious reasons. What would you have done in real life scenario? I would happily move into a flat on the 13th floor if I got a great deal (smiles). I would happily move into a flat on the 13th floor if I got a great deal Shooting for such spook-fests come with their share of eerie experiences. Did you encounter any such incidents? Yeah...we did have our share of spooky incidents. For example, things would go wrong at 13:00 hours and for some reason or the other we would not be able to shoot on the 13th of every month but there was nothing scary or detrimental about it. The film has music given by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Firstly is there a need or scope for songs in such a film and why are you seen doing an item number in a supernatural thriller? 'O Sexy Mama' is only used for promotional purposes, its not there in the film. The rest of the songs are so good that I would rather have them in the film than not have it. It's not fair for me to disappoint my Tamil fans by appearing in inconsequential roles Not many people are aware that the film is a bi-lingual (Hindi and Tamil). Did you shoot for both the versions simultaneously? Is the Tamil film also releasing at the same time? Yes...for the first time ever we shot a film in two different languages (Hindi and Tamil) with a slightly different cast simultaneously and it's being released on the same date - March 6. Coming back to your career, you started out in 2001 with RHTDM, yet in the last 8 years we have seen you in hardly 8 films. Why so? Yes, actually not even 8 films...13B is my seventh Hindi film. I started with RHTDM, then Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Ramji Londonwaley, Rang De Basanti, Guru and Mumbai Meri Jaan. I have been waiting for the right scripts and moreover I didn't want to play second fiddle in many films as it doesn't go down too well with my Tamil audience. It's not fair for me to disappoint my Tamil fans by appearing in inconsequential roles. Post 13B, you also feature in one of the most anticipated films of the year- Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 3 Idiots. How has it been shooting once again with Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi? It's been great. Good old times are back again. The 3 Idiots team played a cricket match recently. Was it for any charitable cause? No...it was just a fun thing. We'd finished 40 days of shooting and thought it would be a nice way to show our friendship and rivalry. It was a full-on match of 10 overs per side and we had 4 teams comprising the actors, the producers, the director and the technicians. We had a complete blast and luckily for me I was in Aamir's team (the winning team). Besides 13B and 3 Idiots, what else is in the pipeline? There is Teen Patti...My whole life is full of 3's right now (13B, 3 Idiots, Teen Patti). I also have Sikandar which will be releasing in March. How has it been working with Big B in Teen Patti? It's a dream come true. He had done a cameo in Ramji Londonwaley and I was floored then and there. This time, to be a part of a full film with him is something special. He is an outstanding gentleman and I am a devotee of Amitabh Bachchan. I am a devotee of Amitabh Bachchan Coming back to 13B, in the recent past spook-fests like Raaz-TMC, 1920, Phoonk etc. have proved to be surprise hits at the B.O. What is your gut feel about 13 B? Even if the above mentioned films would not have worked I would still be equally hopeful about 13 B. It's a good film and I am sure people would enjoy watching it.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Mar 2009 | 12:25 pm Freida on the cover of Vogue

After all, it was going to be some busy months ahead, what with shooting of Rohit Shetty directed All The Best (tentative title) and Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail coming together almost simultaneously. Moreover, she knew that her 'ideal man' Sachin Tendulkar would be there at the party so she made sure that she joins the fun. She wasn't disappointed as in this late evening party last week, she actually found herself face to face with Sachin Tendulkar and ended up spending some quality time with him. "He is a legend and I am not the first or the last person to be saying that. No wonder, when you actually come face to face with such a personality, you are bound to be excited and feel blessed. The same happened to me when I met Sachin", says Mugdha who was so thrilled about her meet with Sachin that as a star struck fan, she impromptu had her picture clicked with him. Both being Maharashtrians worked in her favor as well. "Ya, we ended up chatting in Marathi and it was fun. It's the mother tongue of both of us and we hit off quite well. He is someone who truly stands as my 'ideal man'. Yes, he is quite reserved & proper and doesn't go beyond 'Hi-Hello' in his first few meetings with people. So it was me who was more talkative." She didn't mind it much though. "Anjali is quite an extrovert and since she was around as well, I was very comfortable striking off a conversation. In fact I was with her for an even longer duration", details Mugdha. Apparently, Anjali is a big time movie buff and is said to be a regular Friday moviegoer. She had seen Fashion so the conversation veered towards the movie and Mugdha's performance. "But from the corner of my eye, I wanted to assess whether Sachin had seen the film or not! Next time when I meet him, I think I will directly ask him the question", quips Mugdha who has been recognized for her performance in Fashion by being nominated in almost all award functions this year. Not many are aware that Mugdha and Sachin have shared screen space a few years back for a Pepsi commercial. While Sachin had played himself as a passenger, Mugdha was an airhostess. "I will remind him about that as well. One never knows, maybe we may end up working together again", continues Mugdha who has been smiling ever since her meet.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Mar 2009 | 11:22 am Did you hear the wedding bells? - Times of India
Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 3 Mar 2009 | 11:20 am Slumdog Millionaire producer wants to make a film with Irrfan in the leadThe Slumdog Millionaire (SM) producers - Fox-Searchlight now want to make a film with Irrfan in the lead. Says Irrfan, "The studio head Peter Rice came to me and said he'd now like to make a film with me in the lead. Do you know Peter Rice is responsible for the film's release? Otherwise it was going straight into a DVD release. Danny Boyle was in a panic mode and was ready to take the DVD offer. But the makers decided to take the film to Toronto and show it to Fox-Searchlight. They chased me all over the world to get some lines re-done, took the film to Toronto. Luckily, Fox-Searchlight loved SM." Irrfan can't stop marveling at what is happening to the film. "Look at destiny. Look at the kids! People are going mad over Freida Pinto. The photographers won't leave her in peace for even a second. Freida has signed Woody Allen and Dev Patel has signed Manoj Shyamalan. We're going to see much more Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations in future." Back in Mumbai, Irrfan Khan and Oscars-winner Resul Pookutty had to be whisked hurried out on a police van from Mumbai's airport. "When we landed we had no idea what crowds were waiting for us until we were told it was difficult for us to step outside. We had leave in a police van." Recalling the Oscars experience Irrfan says, "We never doubted that Slumdog Millionaire would get the Oscars. The minute we stepped on to the red carpet at the Kodak theatre they were shouting our names. The mood was, how could you not give this film the Oscars? Our producers Fox -Searchlight were really anxious. They got the Best Film Oscar after 40 years. I think the kids in SM did the trick. They won over the global audiences' hearts. We grown-up actors were the bonus." The fruits of the Slumdog Millionaire (SM) experience at the Oscars and global box-office are already ripening. While Anil Kapoor seemed to be enjoying every second of his glamorous avtar on the red carpet, Irrfan says he's very much ill-at-ease doing it. "I love going to film festivals. But not to these red-carpet thingies." Recalling his touchdown at the Mumbai airport after the Oscars Irrfan says, "I felt like the bridegroom at a baraat. It was so moving. The reception I got at the Mumbai airport was equal to any Oscar." He recalls his association with Resul Pookutty who won the Oscar. "Resul and I started our careers at the same time. Resul kept working silently for a decade. He deserves this recognition. As for me I was pleasantly surprised to be recognized in LA as the actor from The Namesake and A Mighty Heart." In fact Irrfan has been selected by Forbes magazine as one of the 6 Bollywood faces that have made an impact in Hollywood. "That was news to me, and very pleasant news at that. I've waited long for this recognition. I became a recognizable name abroad after The Namesake. But I wish it had happened after Warrior. In the truest sense it changed my life. It came at a time when I was losing heart regarding the roles coming my way. I was thinking of changing professions. I was quite bored. I became an actor to explore my emotions and go beyond the mundane, like Dilip Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah did. I wanted to experience something magical. Warrior gave me that chance."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Mar 2009 | 10:34 am Sonam is Bollywood's first babe in Chanel - NDTV.com

Incidentally, both are helmed by first-time directors -- Nandita Das and Raja Menon, respectively. In fact, Naseer's last few films [A WEDNESDAY and JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA] were helmed by first-time directors as well. Quite a coincidence, isn't it? "That's not new," the veteran corrects me, "I've acted with new directors from the beginning of my career. Right from Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani to the new names today. Actually, I am more comfortable with newcomers. Unke peth mein aag hain, they are ready to take risks and if you notice, their first films are always their best." But first-timers could be intimidated by his personality, his body of work? "May be," he retorts. So who breaks the ice? "It happens gradually. Of course, you don't get into backslapping terms, but a comfort level develops once you start working," he says. First-time director Raja Menon [BARAH AANA] was nervous when he approached Naseer to act in his film. "I loved the script. You know something, main dil se soochta hoon. I loved the story and I decided to be a part of the film. And I am glad I did the film because Raja is clear about what he wants and he has executed the subject well," Naseer states. Naseer tried his hand at direction a few years ago [YUN HOTA TO KYA HOTA... WHAT IF?], isn't he planning to direct his second film now? "No, I am not interested. It's a tough job. It takes away too much from you. I am not cut out for film direction," he clarifies.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Mar 2009 | 7:38 am Now 'Deshdrohi 2'KRK continues to make news! Actor/film-maker Kamaal R. Khan [KRK], who hit front-page news when he made DESHDROHI, is now making DESHDROHI 2. While DESHDROHI dealt with the injustice meted out to North Indians in Mumbai, DESHDROHI 2 - 26/11 WAR IN MUMBAI [yes, that's the title of his new film] is about the terrorist attacks across Mumbai. KRK faced a lot of problems during the release of DESHDROHI, is he prepared to face the heat again in DESHDROHI 2 - 26/11 WAR IN MUMBAI? "I am well aware that there would be obstacles on the way, but I am ready to face it," KRK informs me. Produced by Abhay Sinha and KRK, DESHDROHI 2 - 26/11 WAR IN MUMBAI will be directed by Sanjay Jha Mastan, who had directed PRAAN JAAYE PAR SHAAN NA JAYE in the past and is directing MUMBAI CHAKACHAK currently. However, no one involved with the Sanjay Dutt's project Charles & I is talking about Sobhraj any more. According to people close to the project, Sanjay Dutt who plays the lead has been told not to speak about the character any more. Says a source, "From the moment the director Prawaal Raman narrated the script to Sanjay he has been charged. The actor has taken charge of the project, so much so that when the original producers pulled out, Dutt personally took on the responsibility for getting immediate replacement producers. However, the excitable actor has been asked not to mention Sobhraj anywhere." It looks like Faroukh Dhondy's novel The Bikini Murders is not the only supposedly-biographical target that the controversial convict Charles Sobhraj has chosen for legal recourse. Former Ram Gopal Varma associate, Prawaal Raman, who is making a film based on the life and crimes of Sobhraj with Sanjay Dutt in the lead has had to do some quick rethinking after he received legal summons from Sobhraj's lawyers. Confirming these developments the Prawaal Raman says, "Yes, Charles Sobhraj has sued us. My lawyers have looked into it. In fact Sanjay Dutt and I were dismayed by reports linking my film about an international criminal to Sobhraj. Let me clarify that my film titled Charles & I is not based on the life of Sobhraj." So why the title Charles & I? "That's because my protagonist is named Charles and his story is told from the perspective of a retired cop who pursued the criminal all across the world." The fact that Herman Knippenberg is an inspiration for the cop's character is, of course, just a happy coincidence. Right? Going by what happened to enterprising filmmakers from Shekhar Kapoor (Bandit Queen) to Jagmohan Mundra (Bawandar) and Deepa Mehta (Heaven On Earth) who have been made financially and creatively accountable by sources for the bio-pics.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Mar 2009 | 1:06 pm
