Call it an early Valentine's present to their New York fans. Last night Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited on stage at the reopening of the legendary Beacon Theater on the Upper West Side.
The 35-year-old supermodel is three months pregnant with her second child - believed to be due in August.
A source said: "It's true. Kate is pregnant. She's overjoyed at the news. She's passed the 12-week stage so she's telling more people."
Kate - who has six-year-old daughter Lila Grace with magazine publisher Jefferson Hack - has been dating The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince since March 2008.
The source said of Jamie, 39: "He's really excited at the prospect of becoming a dad. He already dotes on Lila Grace and is besotted with Kate.
"Kate and Jamie are closer now than ever. She's not going out as much as she used to but when she does he puts a protective arm round her."
The couple, who were reportedly in a panic after Lila's nanny pulled out of a forthcoming family trip to South Africa, have decided to use the holiday to spend quality time with Kate's daughter.
A source said: "They have decided it will be low-key, not much partying, and they'll have a lot of family time with the three of them." Source Source: Lepaparazzi - Celebrity News and Gossip Blog | 16 Feb 2009 | 7:32 am
Tori Spelling and her son are learning a Potty Dance.
The actress, who has two children with her husband Dean McDermott, is teaching her 22-month-old son Liam a special series of moves to celebrate when he uses the bathroom.
She said: "I started potty training my son about a month ago. The Potty Dance was a saving grace. Getting him to learn it was easy - he's a big dancer.
"It was like a reward - every time he went potty, he got to do the potty dance. After he goes to the bathroom, I tell him, 'You're such a good boy!' Then he puts up his fist and shows he's ready to dance."
Tori - who also has an eight-month-old daughter Stella - revealed Liam has one particular song he loves strutting his stuff to.
The 35-year-old star added to celebrity baby blog: "He loves to dance to The Killers, and knows like every word to their new song 'Human'.
"He can't say full sentences, but he knows a word here and there, and he does movements to the different lines."
Mickey Rourke caused a stir at London Heathrow when he checked in a five-and-a-half stone suitcase packed with shoes.
The 56-year-old actor – who was flying first class from London to New York - was forced to repack his bags as the crammed case of footwear was 4kg over the maximum weight limit.
An airline source told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "It was really weird and extraordinary to watch. Five-and-a-half stone – 36kg – of shoes is one heck of a lot of shoes, especially for a man.
"It's the sort of thing you would expect from Victoria Beckham, but not of a tough guy like Mickey Rourke."
Mickey – who was returning to the US after an eight-day stay in London – has evidently adapted to the UK climate.
The source said: "It was freezing cold but he had no socks on and a pair of blue slip-ons with very low heels. And it turned out that he had about 40 pairs of shoes very similar to the ones he was wearing in the case."
During his stay in the UK, the Hollywood star picked up the Best Actor award at last week's BAFTAs for his comeback role in 'The Wrestler'. Source Source: Lepaparazzi - Celebrity News and Gossip Blog | 16 Feb 2009 | 7:26 am

The last time we saw Mischa Barton, it was in LAX on Thursday, frowning in an understandable funk at our six-hours-delayed flight and picking at her gnarled hair extensions. What a difference a few days and some tender loving flashbulbs make: Mischa rolled into Miss Sixty on Sunday looking considerably less crabby, smiled gamely for the press ... and picked at her gnarled hair extensions. Ah well, it was too much to expect a miracle; we suspect the day she stops tugging at those things is the day her agent straps her to a chair and cuts them free.
Barton acted totally unfazed by the instant media frenzy that kicked up when she sauntered out from backstage. The woman next to us cracked that, judging from the melée, she “thought it was Jesus Christ down there.” As far as we know, Mischa can’t walk on water, but she still basked in the glow of the lenses, which makes sense when you consider that attending Miss Sixty is the biggest job she’s held down in a while. She had on a tight leather off-the-shoulder dress reminiscent of the wardrobe from an eighties hair-metal video we actually caught her adjusting her boob in it more than once. Model Coco Rocha, instantly visible thanks to her flame-colored hair, hopped up to hug Mischa, then ditched her end-of-row spot so they could sit together. Actresses Kristen Bell and Minka Kelly rounded out the celeb contingent, the former in bell-bottoms and the latter looking like we feel when we’re trying our best to maintain good posture and hating every second of it. They got along like a house on fire, gossiping right until the lights dimmed. (We imagine it was all about how cracked-out Bell’s ex-show Heroes is now.)
But as usual, the star of the Miss Sixty show always one of our favorites for its sheer audacity was the guests’ expressions. Bell attempted a poker face, but with a glimpse of what we SWEAR were wedgie-riffic black satin granny-panties, she was hard-pressed to restrain her dwindling faith in humankind.
The best, though, was Coco. Fellow top-tier model Jessica Stam walked in the show, and during both of her two struts, Coco waited until Stam was heading back up the runway her face safely hidden from the photographers to try and make her break face. Coco would erupt into giggles, and without fail Stammy bit her lip, snickered, and looked at her feet. Considering Stam wore at one point a strapless jumpsuit that was essentially the world’s highest-waisted pair of jeans, we like to think the unspoken mirth was because Stam was getting paid in free clothes. When Coco pulled the same trick again on the finale walk, Stam smirked and ever-so-briefly stuck out her tongue. And a thousand model fanfics were born.
At first we thought we’d been deafened by Tyson Beckford‘s hotness at Y-3 Sunday night, but it turns out he’s just soft-spoken. Once we could hear him, we learned that he likes to spend Valentine’s Day handing out roses to “all his ladies,” and that he owns 600 pairs of shoes. A man after our own hearts.
Considering his plaintive music, Rufus Wainwright came off shockingly shmoopy, engaging in some subtle canoodling for the photogs with an extremely cute companion, who looked vaguely like the actor David Sutcliffe. Well played, dude.
Kim Kardashian's talons, by Bijules.Photo: Jada Yuan
In fact, the show was full of dudes: Football player Reggie Bush brought both his most resplendent ear-bling (we could see his diamond studs from 50 feet) and girlfriend Kim Kardashian. In fact, Reggie could have been her accountant for all the photogs cared; they lavished their lens time on Kim as she posed in her white blazer with perilously aggressive shoulder pants, leather leggings, and gold talons by Bijules. K.Kard seemed to be having a great time at one point singing along with the Carole King music while Bush looked ... if not bored, then a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. His reserve was matched only by that of his seatmate, Aussie Olympic legend Ian “the Thorpedo” Thorpe, whose arms are as long as you’ve heard but who wasn’t nearly as bloated as recent rumors have suggested.
Also not bloated: Milla Jovovich, although she was wearing a headband that made her look disturbingly like Mischa Barton. This didn’t seem to dampen her mood, though, as she spent most of the show chatting animatedly to Kanye West, complete with gregarious hand gestures. When the passel of child models came out, her ovaries pinged as did ours because she cooed and oohed over them with Kardashian while a nearby Veronica Webb snapped photos in a frenzy.
As for Kanye, sadly, he was not wearing any of his extravagant sunglasses, but he did bring his entourage. Some things never change. We heard rumors that he was feeling cranky, but the sight of all those Y-3 pants must have perked him up; either he was enjoying the show or just liked talking to Milla. He wore an ear-splitting smile both during and after, when he got mobbed en route to the warm embrace of backstage. And hey, at least he didn’t stand us up this time.
If bike-seat fabric is in, “Ciao,” “arrivederci,” and “grazie” are OUT, even among the Italians. Zucchelli said good-bye to his guests at today’s CK Men’s show with a “xei xei” (pronounced shay shay, meaning “thank you”) and a “zài jiàn” (pronounced za-ay je-an, meaning “good-bye”), both holdovers from a recent trip to China. Xie xie doesn’t quite work in this context, which Zucchelli acknowledged. “But it sounds so good!” he said. “I use it randomly. A lot of people don’t know what I’m saying.” So no more overuse of “ciao,” people. Asian linguistics is where it’s at!
We succeeded in getting a cameo on The City after crashing Diane Von Furstenberg's after-party during the last Fashion Week. But the thrill wasn't enough to last a lifetime, so we approached this afternoon's DVF show with the same goal in mind. We didn't spy Whitney, Olivia, or MTV cameras in the tent where the show was held, but the public-relations effort at work was a well-oiled machine, indicating they had to be somewhere. Backstage, perhaps?
Why yes! After the show, the backstage area was teeming with people in an almost-scary way, and it was there that we found Whitney in a corner talking to a man with an earpiece. A producer! And behind them was a camera crew. Score.
After they caucused for a good long while, the producer walked Whitney through the throng to a spot near where DVF was posing for photos and chatting with famous folk. Whitney had the same blank expression as always, but we're guessing she was scared because the producer stayed at her side for a few minutes. "We'll get a lead shot when this clears out," he told her. Finally, he exited the frame and two cameras rolled on Whitney as she lollygagged, one hand latched onto an empty clothing rack. Riveting.
Eventually another crew member wrangled Whit's better half, Olivia, whose curls were notably bouncy this afternoon, and escorted her into the shot. She and Whitney chatted jovially and even giggled together without looking like they wanted to claw each other's faces off. Numerous photographers took pictures of the girls. "Oh, we can pose them?" one mused, surprised MTV allowed the ladies to be their famous selves while acting in a scene — er, working. Several well-heeled ladies stopped to congratulate Olivia, without whom the show would certainly be lost, while the rest of the PR team wrangled reporters and photographers, generally keeping things orderly. The girls even posed for photos with fans (getting backstage at the tents is as easy as walking), one of whom asked us to play camerawoman, which we did with honor.
Finally MTV was ready to shoot the "closer," so the producers shoved Whitney and Olivia into a corner away from the flashbulbs. A producer gave a DVF higher-up instructions (on what to talk about, we presume), and they all stood so as to cheat the three cameras pointed at them. Even if in the end we don't get a second cameo, we are content in knowing how small-screen magic is made. We can sleep soundly tonight, having witnessed reality at its most real.

The Downturnaround just about wept with joy while reading "How the Crash Will Reshape America," Richard Florida's fantastic cover story in the March issue of the Atlantic.
Florida, who is a scholar and the author of The Rise of the Creative Class, has become semi-famous in recent years for arguing that the U.S. economy is now based on the development and exchange of ideas, and that the best places for that to happen are those that attract and coddle creative, educated people. Places, in other words, like New York.
Naturally, we've always liked that about him. (We also like his name.) And now we like him even more, because his Atlantic piece devotes special attention to New York.
After arguing that the city is not likely to lose its status as the preeminent financial center anytime soon, he says:
The financial crisis may ultimately help New York by reenergizing its creative economy. The extraordinary income gains of investment bankers, traders, and hedge-fund managers over the past two decades skewed the city's economy in some unhealthy ways. In 2005, I asked a top-ranking official at a major investment bank whether the city's rising real-estate prices were affecting his company's ability to attract global talent. He responded simply: "We are the cause, not the effect, of the real-estate bubble." (As it turns out, he was only half right.) Stratospheric real-estate prices have made New York less diverse over time, and arguably less stimulating. When I asked [Jane] Jacobs some years ago about the effects of escalating real-estate prices on creativity, she told me, "When a place gets boring, even the rich people leave." With the hegemony of the investment bankers over, New York now stands a better chance of avoiding that sterile fate.
Frankly, we were never all that worried about sterility, because as areas of Manhattan and Brooklyn became whitewashed by cash, new pockets of creativity always seemed to spring up around town. But, as Joel Lovell observed in our magazine last spring, extravagant status symbols had become a sickness.
Florida sees hard times ahead for Sun Belt areas like Phoenix and Las Vegas, where the economies are based largely on suburban expansion; he calls them "giant Ponzi schemes." But this is the first story we've read that manages to see past the current crisis with optimism about the future of the country, and of New York, that is tempered by the hard realities of the present but not broken by them. The Downturnaround hails Florida as an ally!
