John Abraham and Milan Luthria team up again after Taxi No. 9211

The buzz in the industry is that after the super-successful Taxi No. 9211, Milan Luthria and John Abraham are once again coming together for a film which John will not only act in but also co-produce with Milan. Bollywood Hungama got in touch with Milan Luthria to confirm the same. "Yes…I am doing a film with John Abraham. This is a script which we have been working on for the past 8 months. After Taxi No. 9211 (which many people feel is John's best work till date), John and I felt that we need to come together again. As far as John co-producing the film is concerned, we are in talks, the logistics need to be worked out and we are yet to finalize the details" So what genre will the film belong to? "It's a very unique and interesting story. Revealing anything more at this point of time will spoil the fun. But let me tell you that with this film John (who is already a chick-magnet) will be catapulted to being a huge international heart-throb. It has a lot of potential and hence we are trying to keep the story under wraps", says Milan Before this film, Milan already has Once Upon A Time in Mumbai with Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles. So when does he plan to start this film? "We have worked out the dates with John. Right now he is in the middle of Hook Ya Crook and then he has 1-800 Love. Even I am also busy with my film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai which goes on floors in May this year. I finish shooting for that in July and post that, somewhere in August we plan to start this film with John" Coming back to the idea of John co-producing the film, how did this all happen? "See... John has a very strong business mind. He is an MBA with good marketing and advertising experience at the corporate level. We both have a certain level of trust and comfort level with each other. When we discussed about this film, we both felt that we needed to control this project completely because apart from a great script, the film also has a lot of potential for marketing, merchandising, franchising, tie-ups, remakes in different languages etc.", says the excited filmmaker. Off-late, more and more actors such as Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, SRK have been working out profit sharing models for their respective films. So is this trend here to stay? "Yes... I truly believe that in today's time and age this kind of an agreement does make a lot of financial sense. Star-prices are always going to be big and sometimes when the budget of the film is also high, how do you adjust all together? Even in Hollywood, when they came up with the points system for profit sharing there was a very high amount of resistance to it but gradually over the years, actors and directors began to accept that this works. At the end of the day, we all need to grow beyond being just actors and directors. This is a win-win series and with the transparency shown by the corporates this is a system which is here to stay", signs off Milan

Rahman still working on Delhi-6 background music

Barely two weeks away from release and Delhi-6 still doesn't have its full background music. A. R. Rahman, whose schedules went haywire due to the unscheduled commitments in Los Angeles for the Golden Globe, has been working frantically to meet the deadline. While the film's songs quickly move up the charts, the background music still needs to be fully completed. Holed away from public eye in his studio in Chennai, Rahman has been burning the midnight oil trying to get the music in place. On Thursday night, Rakeysh flew to Chennai once more for portions of the background music. But will the film now be able to release as schedule on Feb 20? There seemed to be no sign of panic in Rakeysh's attitude. "As far as I'm concerned we're on. The background score is nearly done. I'm flying down with one reel that needs looking into. And the mixing is now on. When it's Rahman, you know the pace and by now you're used to it. And look at the songs. The connect that they've found with listeners is amazing. T-Series is not able to keep with the supply order. I personally feel the background score is shaping up even better. In fact we plan to release a separate album of the background." But with a huge release planned for Feb 20, Rahman's genius is really cutting it close. And not every filmmaker would be as patient and enamored of Rahman's genius as Rakeysh Mehra.

Reliance Big Entertainment ties up with Julia Roberts and Brett Ratner

In the last few years, Reliance Big Entertainment, the Media and Entertainment Company of the Reliance ADA Group, has grown from strength to strength. Expanding its media investments in Hollywood, Reliance Big Entertainment has signed two separate development deals with Julia Roberts' Red Om Films and Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment. With these two deals, Reliance Big Entertainment has established creative partnerships with nine leading Hollywood production entities. The initial seven deals with Nicholas Cage's Saturn Productions, Jim Carrey's JC 23 Entertainment, George Clooney's Smokehouse Productions, Chris Columbus' 1492 Pictures, Tom Hanks' Playtone Productions, Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, and Jay Roach's Everyman Pictures were announced during the Cannes Film Festival 2008 by Reliance Big Entertainment's Chairman Amit Khanna and President Rajesh Sawhney. All nine deals provide for the creation of a development silo for each of the production entities and the possibility of Reliance co-financing projects that emanate from these development deals. For any green lit projects utilizing Reliance co-financing, the filmmakers will enjoy full creative and fiscal freedom. Eight of the partnerships have had development projects approved and there is already a handpicked slate in excess of twenty projects and it is anticipated that most will generate content during 2009. In announcing the new partnerships, Amit Khanna, Chairman of Reliance Big Entertainment commented, "Our innovative foray into Hollywood has proven very productive on the development front and we are now looking forward to moving into the filmmaking stage over the coming months. We were immediately impressed by both Julia's and Brett's enthusiasm for our creative partnership plan" Added Rajesh Sawhney, President of Reliance Big Entertainment, "These creative partnerships will lead to Reliance co-financing with the majority of the major US Studios as we are totally respectful of the existing first-look deals that each of our partners enjoys. From the conversations till date, we know that the respective studios will welcome our development silos and our subsequent co-financing ability. We have broken completely new ground by empowering some of the best talent in the global industry". For the U.S. studios, the Reliance ADA Group provides a partner with expertise in India, which has one of the most successful domestic filmed entertainment businesses in the world but which remains a challenge for non indigenous product. Reliance BIG Pictures, the division of Reliance Big Entertainment that will focus on media investments outside of India, sees the development deals as the first major building block in the creation of a virtual studio, or new-generation media company. They are part of Reliance Big Entertainment's long-term strategy for media investments in Hollywood, as it continues to build a fully integrated movie company with substantial holdings in production, distribution and exhibition. The deals also secure Indian rights for the films which Reliance co-finances. Creative Artists Agency (CAA) was instrumental in brokering the deals and is advising Reliance Big Entertainment on its Hollywood strategy.

We are indeed talking about the rise, rise and super-rise of the 'Surp-rise' discovery of 2007, Sonam Kapoor, who is having the whole of 2009 going in her favour! On the professional front, on one hand, while she has been chosen as the Brand Ambassador of the cosmetic giant L'Oreal and a big film (Delhi 6) lined up for release, on the other; she is all over the place as being the cover-girl of a trillion mags. This chic's latest conquest is the latest issue of the uber-cool magazine Verve, for which she has done an exclusive photo-shoot which was shot on the sunny beaches of the Maldives. One look at those 'holiest-than-thou' snaps and you are bound to get impressed with her zest for life, the love and cheer she spreads liberally and a sharply discerning mind that doesn't allow for compromise. Full marks to Verve for discovering the undiscovered aspects of the petite Sonam Kapoor. Lastly, what one observes is that, those (read 'critics') who had panned and pulled Sonam Kapoor down immediately after her Bollywood debut vehicle Saawariya will now have to eat their own words now. Welcome aboard... Sonam Kapoor!
