"Harman is certainly no Tendulkar" - Brad Hogg

Last year, the inaugural edition of the IPL saw some big names from Bollywood such as SRK, Preity Zinta, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar cheering the cricketers of the world. This year, get ready to see as many as 40 cricketing greats sharing screen space in the Harman Baweja starrer Victory. The film that talks about a small town boy's rise to stardom brings together some big cricketing names from India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, England and South Africa. One of the cricketers who would be seen playing himself in Victory is Aussie spinner Brad Hogg. Bollywood Hungama caught up with Brad Hogg and got him talking on his experience starring in a Bollywood film. You don't want to miss this one! Brad...you star in Victory? Is this your first feature film appearance? How do you feel? Definitely, my first feature film appearance. It's been a fantastic experience and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. Victory is my first feature film appearance. It's been a fantastic experience and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. Could you tell us a little on how you bagged the film? I just got a phone call from the makers saying that they need some help with some cricketers. I immediately put my hands up as there was no way that I was going to let go of this opportunity. But what exactly made you say yes to this project? Opportunities like this to star in a Bollywood film don't come every now and then. You just have take each opportunity as and when it comes. You play yourself in the film. How easy or difficult was it? It's a little bit difficult with a camera right up on your face. But looking back it's just been a fantastic experience, something that I will always cherish for the rest of my life. I'm just fortunate to be a part of something, which is so big. So do we get to see you bowling your 'Chinamans' in the film? Yes....You will get to see me bowling my Chinamans and much more (laughs) How was it working with Harman Baweja? It's been fantastic. We don't really get exposed to actors such as Harman every now and then. It's been a great experience to work with a professional actor like Harman and I even learnt a few things. And how do you rate him as a cricketer? He wasn't too bad, but at the same time he's no Sachin Tendulkar either (laughs). He has done the best job that he possible could have. So I think it's a good experience for him to know how the cricketers go out there and play at the highest level and I think he enjoyed the experience as much as we enjoyed his company. It's a good experience for Harman to know how the cricketers go out there and play at the highest level So which other Australian cricketers do we get to see in the film? We know there are Brett Lee and Stuart Clark in the film apart from you? There are a few others too, you have to watch the film for that. We got a great contingent of Australian players and it was a great fun-filled experience for all of us. Australian cricketers are well-known for their sledging. Do we get to see that on screen to? (laughs) I'm not too sure. Maybe a few words here and there, though we didn't change much of the action from what happens on field. Hopefully you see the same in the film as well. Do you get to mouth any dialogues in the film? Yes I do get to say one or two lines in English (smiles) Victory is a Bollywood film. What has been your exposure to Bollywood cinema? Have you ever seen any Hindi film? When we traveled to India, I got a chance to check out some Indian films while surfing the television channels, it gave me an idea of the kind of movies you guys make. I can't name any particular movie but it's interesting to see the way you guys go about doing your business. Coming back to your career, you've retired from international cricket. Do you miss all the on-field action? Not really as I am pretty settled at this moment. I enjoyed my career as it was and had a fantastic time. The highlights of my career would be playing some really challenging Test cricket against India. Majority of my matches were played against India and I just enjoyed that competition. Majority of my matches were played against India and I just enjoyed that competition. So who do you rate as your favorite Indian cricketer? Whenever I have played against India, I have enjoyed the experience. They are just good players of spin and have an amazing batting line-up. I think the Indian cricketer I enjoyed bowling to most was Ganguly. He is such a great player of spin bowling and I just enjoyed the competition between him and myself. I think the Indian cricketer I enjoyed bowling to most was Ganguly. There is a lot of talk going on about the Aussie dominance coming to an end. Recently they have been beaten by teams like India and South Africa. Do you think their reign as the 'Numero Uno' team is over? I think they are still up there as the number one team. Obviously with the retirement of some senior players, we have gone through a change in the personnel and I think that's creating great, healthy competition within Australian cricket. However with some of the recent defeats, it all comes back to a level playing field which is good for cricket. You didn't feature in the inaugural edition of the IPL. Do we get to see you this time around? I am not sure yet (smiles). I'm just waiting to see if I can get my name there in. IPL will be a fantastic competition this year too. Twenty 20 cricket is a great concept and is really coming forward. On a closing note, do we get to see a pulsating India-Australia final in the climax of Victory? (laughs) I think we'll leave that for the viewers to find out so that they buy the tickets and see what happens in the end. No point giving it all away, ain't it mate?

Exclusive look at Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu in Aa Dekhen Zara

The upcoming film Aa Dekhen Zara starring Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh has been making news for sometime now. However, the last we heard was that Neil has convinced Bips to croon for the title track of the film. Aa Dekhen Zara is apparently a romantic sci-fi thriller movie with Neil playing a photo journalist and Bipasha playing a Disco Jockey. The film was earlier said to be titled as Freeze, so we at Bollywood Hungama sourced a particular 'freeze' frame from the film that has the dusky bombshell Bipasha and Neil grooving on the dance floor. One thing is for sure that Neil who plays the photographer will have a wonderful time shooting (if his subject is Bips that is). Besides, considering the theme of this sci-fi film, it will surely make an interesting watch.

"No hero wanted to play grey; Farhan got the role by default" - Zoya Akhtar

So you thought it was problem for our heroes to play gay? Try grey. Saif Ali Khan and Viveik Oberoi wanted her to change the ending. They didn't want to play a Bollywood struggler in Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut. Zoya virtually had to bang on all the big doors of Bollywood until Big Brother barged in. Being the illustrious Javed Akhtar's daughter and the cool-dude Farhan's kid sister didn't help Zoya Akhtar. She had to go through the grind with one hero after another. "It doesn't help to be this one's daughter and that one's sister. I got a foot in the door. Farhan's name got me access to the stars. But no one does a film for who has sent you. I went through these times when I felt I just didn't fit in. I went through these lows when I wondered when I'd finally be able to make a film. But the trick was to hang in there. Thank God for family and friends. Thank God for Farhan. They kept my morale from sagging to ground level." Finally, the wait was worth it for Zoya. "I got the cast I wanted and now the climate in the movie theatres has changed drastically. Audiences are open to all kinds of experiences. This is the best time for me to come out. When I started casting for Luck By Chance not that many directors were willing to push the envelope. The thing about my film is that the hero is a bit of an ambitious, user and liar. A lot of our heroes were apprehensive playing a grey character. They wanted me to change the end to make the protagonist look brighter. I refused. You've to stick to your convictions. " According to Zoya, Farhan getting the part of the Bollywood struggler was the best thing to happen to Luck By Chance. "It was Reema Kagti (who directed Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd) who suggested I sign Farhan in the lead. She was the first person to approach Farhan for a part. He was supposed to play Abhay Deol's part in Reema's film. But the dates clashed with Don. Reema suggested I do Luck By Chance with Farhan. It was the best decision I could make. He knew the script in and out. He was part of it from the first draft. And every time an actor would say no to my film I'd discuss it with him and wonder where I was going wrong. I didn't feel insecure. I felt sad and angry. I never felt what I was making was wrong. No one close to me suggested that I make change in the script to make the hero less grey." Recalling those months of waiting Zoya says, "The hardest part was the endless waiting to find the actor. I was dying to get behind the camera. My producer Ritesh Sidhwani kept telling me not to get low we'll find the right guy. Little did we realize that the right guy was sitting in the room with us." Before signing Farhan, Zoya saw Farhan in his acting debut The Fakir of Venice which never got released. I've grown up with Farhan. I always knew he wanted to be an actor. In fact when he announced he wanted to be a director we were surprised. We knew he was a performer. When I spoke to him about Luck By Chance he was totally cool about it." Farhan signed Luck By Chance before Rock On. "Rock On needed less preparation than Luck By Chance. Farhan gave me the option of doing my film before or after Rock On. I chose to let him do Rock On first. I'm not afraid of the comparisons. He plays a completely different character in Luck By Chance. There's no rock star act in my film. I'm very happy with my brother's performance." Being a casting director, Zoya has seen these strugglers first-hand. "I know the character Farhan plays. I've met him before this film. And I've cast lots of actors and stars from the industry either as themselves or as characters. Anurag Kashyap doesn't play himself. He plays a writer in two scenes." Zoya can't praise her leading lady Konkona Sen Sharma enough. "She completely spoils a director with her disciplined approach. I wonder how I'll find another actress to match her easygoing professionalism. She was literally a part of our crew. Where will I find someone who's brilliant and so easy to work with?" Hrithik Roshan is not doing an item song alone. "He plays a star named Zafar Khan. Getting him was quite easy. I was working with him in another film Kismat Talkies. And when that got delayed I started to go back to the one that I wanted to do earlier. He liked Luck By Chance too and wanted to play Zafar Khan. His song is homage to all the item songs in Bollywood." On the sets Zoya had to forget her leading man was her brother. "I maintained certain decorum with Farhan, it was hard. I tried to keep him not involved with what was going on off-camera, so he'd focus on what he was doing. Farhan and I share a very close relationship. I've worked with him in various capacities." She ends, "My film is about success and failure, winning and losing and self-worth. It could've been set in any other industry."

SRK to undergo surgery on his shoulder

'Baadshah of Bollywood' Shah Rukh Khan has finally returned to 'Aamchi Mumbai' after a hectic month long schedule of good friend Karan Johar's film My Name Is Khan in the US of A. However the Superstar, who many describe as a 'Bundle of Energy', is now in severe pain courtesy a shoulder injury which he sustained whilst shooting for an action scene for Dulha Mil Gaya in December last year. SRK apparently hurt his shoulder badly then but since the pain was not severe, he decided to just go in for physiotherapy sessions and even went ahead with the shooting of My Name Is Khan. However now it seems, his shoulder can't seem to take any more strain and hence King Khan would have to go in for a surgery. The date and location of the surgery is yet to be decided. It may be recalled that the actor had previously even been operated upon for his back and knee problem. With his home production Billu Barber slated to release early next month (Feb 13) , we at Bollywood Hungama.com pray for SRK's speedy recovery.
