She is someone who can quintessentially and uniquely mirror the term 'Being hot yet living cool' in an apt fashion, for she is none other than Bollywood's very own prized kitten Minissha Lamba, who also happens to be our Birthday girl of the day (January 18th). Her flawlessly famous face, that has graced the cover of numerous magazines and newspapers, also has launched over a million ships (read 'products'). "I have rejected unconventional scripts too" - Abhay Deol

Trust Abhay Deol to feature in some of the most unconventional films to have come out of Bollywood. While Socha Na Tha was perhaps his safest film till date, films like Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Manorama - Six Feet Under and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! have all looked at exploring different themes. Now comes Dev D which is an altogether different interpretation of Devdas and one wonders whether he purposely goes around looking for unconventional roles. "No, actually I don't", Abhay says promptly, "There are all sorts of scripts out there with number of people who want to make their kind of films. These are guys who have dreamt of making something close to their heart and given everything into their scripts. But then it isn't that I select the most unconventional of the lot and pick and choose only those films. I filter the ones out about which I am most convinced and excited." So has he ever rejected anything unconventional straightaway? "Yes, I have. See, as I said there are all sorts of people who have made up this world and it is a personal choice to accept or reject something. If I haven't done a project, it's not because it is bad. It could also be because I don't block my dates for 2-3 years. I go one year at a time, assess my market value, the trends and then give a go-ahead to a project." He also reveals that he has changed his approach when it comes to meeting filmmakers for script reading sessions. "I have taken a step back there. I see a lot of heartbreak if you listen to a filmmaker, make him hope in anticipation that as an actor you will give a green signal to his project, only to feel disappointed in the end. So now, I have started getting selective when it comes to meeting people as well. I don't want to waste their time in listening to a script when I know beforehand that I won't be able to do a project. It gets a little emotional for them initially but then it's better than gaining false hopes", explains Abhay. Meanwhile his Dev D, which has started gaining steam amongst it's target audience, the urban multiplex junta, is all set for a 7th February release. Directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by UTV Spot Boy, Dev D sees the Bollywood debut of Kalki and Mahi Gill. Boasting of an exemplary score by Amit Trivedi, Dev D would kick start another promising year for Abhay Deol which would also see the release of his Dev Benegal directed film.

Naseer's cameo in Prakash Jha's Rajniti

Though this year Naseeruddin Shah has decided to cut down on his film assignments drastically, the one film that he has agreed to do is Prakash Jha's Rajniti. And that too a cameo in a Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer. Naseer has been doing a series of cameos in the last two years including such unlikely ones as Priyadarshan's Mere Baap Pehle Aap which says Naseer, he did to work with the prolific Priyan for the first time. Likewise this would be the first time that Naseer would be working with Prakash Jha. Most surprising of all Naseer agreed to the role without hearing what his role was. "I trust Prakash Jha," says Naseer simply. Adds Prakash Jha, "It's true. Naseer didn't ask me anything about his role in Rajniti. He just said yes. He plays a powerful leftist leader of a people's movement."

Wishing Javed Akhtar a very happy Birthday

If Goddess Saraswati is called as the 'Goddess of Education', then, our today's Birthday boy can be aptly called as the 'Lord of the Poetry'. No prizes for guessing as to we are talking about the one and only ageless wonder of the literary world as well as Bollywood…Shri. Javed Akhtar, who celebrates his birthday today. Javed is one of the very few people in the tinsel town who has been immensely successful in multiple fields of work, including script writing, lyrics, poetry and also judging singing talents. A sample of his work can be seen in exemplary Bollywood classics like Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay, Haathi Mera Saathi, Seeta Aur Geeta, Don, Trishul …to say the least. While on one hand, Javed was hugely responsible for giving Big B his on-screen Angry Young Man image, on the other, Javed is equally responsible for giving Bollywood it's much acclaimed all-rounder in the form of his very own son Farhan Akhtar, who is already 'Rocking' his way to the top. True to the saying, 'Like Father, Like Son', Farhan too, has been by and large successful in becoming the Master of all trades! When Adhyayan was made a 'bakra'

Click above for more movie stills Adhyayan Suman has just joined the industry and he is already feeling the pinch. His Haal-E-Dil notwithstanding, he saw complete backing coming from Bhatt brothers. However, it seems his director Mohit Suri was not so generous, as evidenced on the sets of Raaz - The Mystery Continues a few months back. Scaring the daylights out of Adhyayan, Mohit and Co. had a hearty laugh over the entire incident. Adhyayan however took it all in good spirit and recollects the incident with a smile. "This was during the time when the shoot was happening in Shimla. After a long night, we had all packed up and I had just gone back to my vanity van to catch up on some rest. In any case I was scared due to the spooky environment created for the film and was lying down on the bed while point blankly staring at the ceiling. Suddenly, lights started flickering in the van and after a couple of seconds, they completely went off", narrated Adhyayan. He continues, "Really, I got scared because of this and started looking for my mobile phone to use it lights for navigating my way out of the van. I couldn't find it around me and when I finally managed to reach out to the doors, they were locked. Man, I was damn scared then and hastily started knocking on my doors. Just as I was praying that someone gets me out, there was a loud noise on the roof. It seemed like there were 15-20 people up there who were trying to get in. That's it; I almost had a heart attack." Guess at this point of time, Mohit thought that enough was enough and opened the doors of the van but not before making some loud noise at the entrance which had Adhyayan almost falling off on the ground. Seems it was the 'bakra' moment for the young boy. "Indeed, I was made a 'pucca bakra' there. Everyone in the unit had a hearty laugh at my expense. But that's ok; I will give everyone back double of all the scares they gave me. They better watch out", warns Adhyayan.

"Delhi 6 deals with Hindu-Muslim problems & has love story infused in it" - Rishi ...

"I'm really happy that after a long time I'm getting to play character roles which have not only touched me but make sense. I'm very happy" Those were the words coming from the elated Rishi Kapoor when we recently met him in Bandra. I remember our last interaction was in London during last years Zee Cine Awards where Chintu uncle was in a foul mood after having a row with the hotel staff at the after party of Zee Awards. But that's past. The present tells you that he is all geared up for his role in Luck By Chance and the future has Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra's Delhi 6. What interested us at that particular moment in time was about his future...about Delhi 6. Chintuji totally covered in black from top to bottom orders for some water, sips it and in a very Kapoor laid back style talks about all the things he is very close with - Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra and Delhi 6. "It was lovely to work with Rakeysh Mehra. He is a man of very few words. A very polite and a deep man. One of the most decent and a shy person I've worked with. Delhi 6 is a film of an ensemble cast. It has several actors who are actually the resident of 'Delhi 6' that is Chandni Chowk. The film deals with the ever going Hindu-Muslim problems and has a lovely love story which is infused in it", says the cute Kapoor. In the same breath, he describes his role too. "I've got a sweet role in the film. I play a wealthy Muslim, a nawab type of a character who too lives in the Chowk. Now this is interesting. In the film, I was once upon a time in love with Abhishek Bachchan's mother but lost out to his father who also happens to be my best friend. In spite of that, I treat Abhishek as my own son and how he helps Abhishek in his problems is what I portray in Delhi 6". So is the role any different from his previous performances? Chintuji answers, "It's a role which I've done a little differently from what I did in Hum Tum because in that film too, the couple goes through a similar problem". From Bandra we then move to Rajasthan where Delhi 6 was shot. "I am happy to belong to this film because it was great working in that ambience they created in Rajasthan's Sambhar town. In Sambhar we created the whole Chandni Chowk. Most of the Delhi was set up there". Rishi ji was over the moon when describing some of the acting talents in Delhi 6. He told us, "There are some brilliant actors waiting to get their due share of stardom. I was very impressed by the technical crew of Rakeysh. His ability to execute the film, his sound, his editing, all were there on board. At this time last year we were stationed in Jaipur for three months working on Delhi 6 under freezing temperatures." Describing the two kids who he has seen growing up in his house got him even more excited. "It was a pleasure working with Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. These were the two kids I've seen growing up in my household. Sonam started her career with my son Ranbir. She is naturally a gifted actor like her father. Absolutely charming and adorable. She is a darling. I've worked with Amitji all through my life. So I've seen Abhishek grow in all stages. Then suddenly he moved away to Switzerland and when he comes back he is a grown up adult. A very smart and a handsome six foot two inches; in fact taller than his father, Abhi is a very well spoken, educated and a cultured boy. A very fine actor." On asking him to elaborate on the words - 'a very fine actor'. Without delay, he describes his most important scene in the film with Abhishek. In fact, Chintu ji was so impressed with the scene; he sent Abhi a special text message to congratulate him. "There is one very important scene I have in the film. It's important for the film, to me and Abhi where I am speaking most of the lines. I am trying to tell him that don't lose out on your girl whom you love (Sonam), otherwise you'll turn up like me, like what my character is in the film is. Now here's the twist. Abhishek doesn't say anything. He is just looking at me speechless. And the way he has done the scene, hats off to him. I haven't seen the film yet but he was brilliant in that scene. The way he has underplayed that scene is worth a standing ovation. My sincere kudos to him and thus I couldn't stop myself from sending him the text message congratulating him". And what about Sonam, Mr Kapoor? "I don't interact much with Sonam in Delhi 6 except the climax. I've seen her work in Saawariya and I'm sure she has surpassed her previous best." Rishi ji finally takes out the rabbit from the hat when he talks about his beloved co-star, Waheeda Rahmanji. "One cannot forget Waheeda Rahmanji. She was an institution by herself. I've done Kabhi Kabhie, Coolie and Chandni with the great Waheedaji. All three films were super-duper hits. I keep telling Rakeysh that I hope we keep up this record and do our fourth super hit with you in Delhi 6. There are some other marvelous performances from Om Puri, Prem Chopra, Atul Kulkarni, Vijay Raaz, Akhilendra Mishra and Pawan Malhotra who've got relevant and vital parts to play in the film," he signs off.

"Dev D is an honest and true telling of a tale of sex" - Abhay Deol

He started off his film career in 2005 and since then there has been no looking back for this budding star. Though a couple of his films did flop, he hasn't let that affect him in any way. All that he did was to forge ahead making a path for himself. Folks, we are talking about none other than Abhay Deol. Bollywood Hungama caught up with him to fire off some questions and lay to rest, the doubts about his forthcoming film Dev D. What's your latest film Dev D all about? Isn't it based on the film Devdas? Yes it is basically the same story of Devdas; however the main change is placing that same story in context with today's day and age. So we have the same kind of obsession and all other feelings, but this time with more of the materialistic addictions to boot. Please elaborate... As I said, the main change is the situation that we are portraying the story in. So, it is a whole new alien world with a lot of unknown stuff happening that we all know about, whereas the story is the same as that of the book. The change lies in the circumstances and the environment. Anurag is spontaneous, which, I guess, pushed me to be my self You character 'Dev D'; doesn't it sound like a hip way of saying Dev-Das? Yes it does. Basically it is a contemporary take on Devdas with the typical spoilt and pampered brat kind of character, who is obsessed with Paro and in later stages; it is this obsession that changes to addiction. What was it like shooting for this film? Working on Dev D was great. Anurag has been my old friend and I loved working with him. He is a very spontaneous person. And it is this spontaneity that pushed me to be myself. Anurag wouldn't say anything even when I played around with things, which actually encouraged me a lot. Can you recall any tough moment while shooting for the film? The overall shoot of the film was tough, so to say. There were times when the work hours got really long and the going was slow. Some shots were tough while others were easy, some days were really good while some just simply bad. The workload and the pressure that came along was hard and really tough to deal with. Later, there were days when it was just hard to go out there and shoot any scene. The reason for this 'pressure' is because the film is not superficial and that it really digs into the topic to reveal raw emotions. What is your opinion of Anurag as a director? Anurag is not just a good friend, but also a very talented and a great person to work with. He is really hard working and has a clear vision of what he wants. Overall, it was really exciting to work with him. How well do you think Dev D will fare considering the fact that it is a satirical piece and also that there are two female newcomers in the lead? I don't define film on the basis of commercial and non commercial, because, that way, it becomes easy for me to do my job. We basically segregate our films for own comfort. Creativity to me is about putting 100% into what you are doing and Anurag does just that. But I feel that this film will work commercially as 'UTV Spotboy' is producing it, which, I feel is a step towards commercial success. The film has a great director and it is a great product overall. Having said that, the film's commercial success depends on how far we go in selling this film to the public. Creativity to me is about putting 100% into what you are doing and Anurag does just that. What was going through your mind when you read the script? I had a lot of things playing on my mind with this script like the urban drug cult, youth, how they are mislead etc... Dev D allowed us to narrate this same thought to the people. Do you think this film will stand out in the cluster of other films at the Box-Office? To tell you frankly, when I was doing the film I asked my friends a couple of questions, spoke about the story and a couple of scenes. However, they never guessed which book I was talking about. So, in a way, it is really different from Devdas and yet at the same time is basically the same. How about your co-stars? My co-stars were very hard working and natural actors. And the nicest part is that they fitted so well into the parts. Essentially, they are very different but their approach to the task in hand was very similar. Dev D is said to be having very highly sexually explicit content. What's your take on this? If you look closely, you will find that there is hardly any sexual content. You can compare it to other Bollywood films and you will surely see the difference. The problem of the 'sexual content' arises because other films that are made are larger than life. So, we digest the sexually explicit content in item songs. In fact I am stupefied and surprised when I see Bollywood and its films that are so in your face with their item numbers and the skimpy clothing. Dev D is an honest and true telling of a tale of sex without any distortion. Dev D is an honest and true telling of a tale of sex without any distortion. Of the film's music, which tracks do you like the most? In all, there are 18 tracks in the album. And my personal favourites are 'Mahi Mennu', 'Nayan Tarse' and 'Emosanal Attyachaar'. Talking of 'Emosanal Attyachar', it has been catching up lately. What's the concept behind it? 'Emosanal Attyachar' is basically my character's view of what is being played out on him. The song plays with the plot and story in such a way that it enhances the scene but refrains from breaking the flow. 'Emosanal Attyachar' is one track which puts a smile on your face, but doesn't trivialize the story. It's what I would call as an 'unexpected track'. Is Dev D satirical in nature? Absolutely not, it is not a satire in any way. Instead, it is a dramatic feature with lots of dark dry humour. The reason we have this humour is because the film deals with a heavy script and an uneasy topic. It just becomes easier to digest this mix with a little humour.
