After working with Mani Ratnam he has decided to work only with directors of a certain caliber. And now in 2009 Govinda has far more to look forward to. His daughter Narmada will finally be facing the camera and that too with a home production. Confirming these radical developments in his life Govinda says, "After weighing all the pros and cons I decided I'm the best person to do the needful. I don't want anyone else no matter how well-meaning to take the credit for launching my daughter. So yes, Narmada will finally be launched anytime in 2009." The director to do the needful for Govinda will be finalized in the next couple of weeks. Those on Govinda's wish-list are Nikhil Advani and Shaad Ali. "Ideally," says the anxious father, "I'd have liked Narmada to be launched by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He's among our best. But since that's not possible we're looking at some other names. My daughter has to be directed by someone who has a vision and an aesthetic sense and also respects the work that I do." Continuing to speak on his favourite subject Govinda says, "I've struggled all my life and I continue to do so. All kinds of strange stories are planted about me. The question is not, why. But by whom? Narmada has also faced very harsh and hurtful incidents (she was involved in a terrible road accident) so early in her life. I feel today she's emotionally equipped to face the camera." While focusing on his daughter's career Govinda has also taken some hard career decisions for himself. "Six of my releases are ready. But now, after my so-called comeback I've again stopped signing new films. After working with Mani Ratnam I can't go back to doing chalta hai roles in routine films. I'll work only with directors who are as organized and disciplined as Mani Ratnam. He's clear-headed about everything." Shooting in the jungles wasn't easy. "But it wasn't so tough either," laughs Govinda. "I've spent my childhood in a village. So I'm used to being cut off from city life. Shooting in the jungles with Mani, Abhishek and Aishwarya was very invigorating." Says Govinda, "For now I'm saying no to all future assignments until I get something comparable with Mani's film. But I'm in negotiation with Ravi Chopra for his next film after Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai which is now complete and being released in February, and for the sequel to Partner with Salman and David. But for now, I'm focusing on giving my daughter the best career launch any father can give."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Jan 2009 | 11:15 am Roshni and Kukdeep take on GhajiniWe have all seen Roshni Chopra as a vamp and as a host on Television. My Name Is Khan has SRK playing a person suffering from an autism related disorder, who gets into trouble with cops abroad especially because of his surname 'Khan'. This is why he was more than happy to just hold the reins of a director in Chandni Chowk To China even as writers Sridhar Raghavan and Rajat Arora went all out in getting the homework done. "Seriously, I don't' want to write at all. I have tried it once in Salaam-E-Ishq and have seen the results. I just wrote that film because I was a little impatient and just wanted to get started. Also, there was a scarcity of good writers at that time which forced me to pen the script. Today, that's not the case; we have wonderful writers out there so why not allow them do their job. I never wanted to be a writer and I will never be one", says Nikhil Advani. When there are quite a few writer-directors in Bollywood, why doesn't he want to take a second chance? "Well, that's good if some people can handle both but it doesn't really work for me. When you are shooting for a film, it is a moment of inertia that you operate in. It is the process of editing where the film takes its final shape and things have to come under control. If you are also a writer, it becomes tough to see your work being edited. You don't have any perspective left after the shooting ends and start believing that everything that has been shot is relevant in the final cut", he explains. No wonder, from a 3 hr 30 mins long lasting Salaam-E-Ishq, he has moved to a 2:30 hours Chandni Chowk To China. "And to think of it, I started off with a 2 hr 20 mins long final cut", he smiles, "I later added 10 minutes by retaining some shots that I had originally cut. See, the important thing is to learn. At the time of Salaam-E-Ishq, I was a very different director and today I am different. Still, no regrets about the past because whatever mistakes I had made then, they were with my open eyes." He admits that he has changed as a human being as well. "At that time, I was quite stubborn and didn't want to cut a few scenes in Salaam-E-Ishq, even though before the release itself many suggested that I re-edit it. I was super confident that people would accept the film in the manner I would present to them." He can't forget the support that he got from his wife during the times of turmoil when Salaam-E-Ishq, which was touted to be a big money spinner before the release, bit the dust. "I was quite disappointed when the film didn't run and if not for my wonderfully supportive wife, I would have been devastated. It was she who turned around and said that after the fall, I needed to dust myself, get back on my horse and start from scratch", he says fondly.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Jan 2009 | 2:58 pm Bachna Ae Haseeno music makes a near clean sweep at Screen awardsThe underdog has managed to make it big at Screen awards held on Wednesday night. Bachna Ae Haseeno, which had music by Vishal-Shekhar, has nearly made a clean sweep in all music categories. Its song 'Khuda Jaane' has managed to fetch an award each for K.K. [Best Male Singer], Shilpa Rao [Best Female Singer] and Anvita Dutt Guptan [Best Lyrics]. Two names that made it all possible, Vishal and Shekhar (the composers of the film) were conspicuous with their absence but they didn't have any regrets on missing out to A.R. Rahman who won the award the Best Composer for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. "It's ok if we didn't bag an award; our team getting it for 'Khuda Jaane' is a great news in itself", says Vishal who couldn't attend the event due to personal reasons. He was cued in to the show though and was soon filled in with the good news as the names were announced. A highly underrated song, it was pointed out by this writer way back after its release that 'Khuda Jaane' is indeed an exceptional song and though it may seem quite good in the first couple of listening, it takes a brilliant turn once you have heard it for a few more times. An instant chartbuster material, also notable is the way Shilpa compliments her co-singer (K.K.) with her unique voice that sets her apart from her contemporaries. A mesmerizing number that has a lot going for it, 'Khuda Jaane' is a winner." Though the song was indeed the best of the year, it didn't quite get the dues it deserved. Says Vishal, "We knew that 'Khuda Jaane' had come out quite well and today we feel vindicated that it has got an array of awards for itself. It's going to be some party time for the team of Bachna Ae Haseeno now. They all have earned it." Shekhar Ravjiani who was attending the event couldn't conceal his excitement either, "It's an achievement for us as well if the entire team behind 'Khuda Jaane' has been adjudged as the winners. Anvita's lyrics gave us so much to experiment with the music while K.K. was superb as always. Moreover, this one is Shilpa's big song. She has just started off but mark my words, she will go far and beyond. She is just excellent."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 2:44 pm A look at Mithun Chakraborty's character in CC2CWhile Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone are going all out to promote their latest flick Chandni Chowk To China, let's not forget that the film has yet another veteran actor in an important role. Yes Ladies and Gentlemanâ¦we are talking about none other than Mithun Chakraborty. While Mithun has been seen here and there in the promos of the film, not much is known about his character. We quizzed director Nikhil Advani about Mithun da's role in the film. "Mithun da has a very important role in the film. He plays Akshay's foster parent. Akshay calls him Dada. He owns a Dhaba. He is the one man Akshay should be listening to but never listens to", says Nikhil. If the buzz is to be believed then Mithun's character does bring in a lot of emotional moments to the film. "Yes, Mithun's character is the emotional backbone of the film. Because of the tragedy that happens to Mithun, the entire film changes" It would be interesting to see the coming together of current superstar Akshay Kumar share screen space and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty for the first time ever.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Jan 2009 | 2:32 pm Live Chat: Emraan Hashmi on Jan 17 at 1430 hrs ISTApart from the Khans, the Kapoors, the Kumars and the Bachchans, if there is one actor who has delivered one hit after the other, its none other than Emraan Hashmi. Now Panscholi who is on a comeback trail, is all set to pay homage to his mentor. In his new ready-for-release film Raftaar 24/7, Panscholi stars as a media baron who believes sensational stories are the order of the day. Says Aditya, "I wouldn't say the role is homage to Nari Hira, it's modeled on him. The stress on news-worthiness is what I've borrowed from him. The rest of the character's hunger for sensational headline is entirely fictitious. But yes, we're living in an era of sensationalism. People are willing to do anything to be noticed," says the actor who three decades ago got himself shot in the buff for a film monthly. Laughs the actor who will also be seen in David Dhawan's Hook Ya Crook, "Ya, what a sensation that created. It was for Rita Mehta in Cine Blitz. My family was scandalized. Some of them disowned me. And looking back I think I went a little too far." Given the chance again, Aditya says he wouldn't do a nude photo-session now. "There's a daughter and there's a lovely wife at home I've to think of. I've to keep their dignity in mind. And who's this young girl whose company I'm keeping these days? Please introduce me to her. I haven't been with a young girl for two years now," Aditya winks. About the role in Raftaar, Aditya says, "I play this media tycoon who invents news to keep his paper on the top. Emraan Hashmi plays my protegee. And I must tell you, I enjoyed working with him. He's so focused on his work, so free of nonsense. He does his work and doesn't bother with what others do." Raftaar 24/7 is produced by Percept Pictures and directed by Shamim Desai, the guy who once upon a time partnered Dino Morea in his production house and was going to direct Dino's first directorial venture. So what went wrong between Dino and Shamim? Aditya Panscholi has no clue. And he doesn't care. "I've decided to do my work. I've lost oodles of weight and I'm ready for my second innings." Aditya's daughter is also ready to be finally launched. "It's a very big set-up. Zarina and I wanted to wait for the right banner for Sana."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 1:52 pm Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 1:52 pm Nadiadwala invites Hollywood stars for the premiere of Kambakth IshqFor Sajid Nadiadwala, the Bollywood-Hollywood collaboration on his latest film Kambakth Ishq is no longer a business deal. Post 26/11, the premiere of his new film has become a show of strength for Sajid Nadiadwala as an Indian more than a producer. Invitations have been sent out to Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards. And Sajid will make sure they attend the premiere on May 28. "It's a do or die thing for me after 26/11. I don't feel like a Bollywood producer at the moment. I'm reacting as an Indian," says the producer emotionally. "Let's just say I want my Hollywood team to come and erase 26/11 from Mumbai's tourist map." "I'm going to leave no stone unturned to make sure Sly Stallone and others go back with only the fondest memories of Mumbai. If six months back I had laid out the red carpet for the Hollywood members of the cast, now I'm putting my entire production machinery and powers of hospitality on the block. The Kambhakth Ishq premiere is not about our entertainment industry any more. It's about Mumbai and India. I want Hollywood to come to Mumbai and taste our hospitality. Nothing has changed in the country. We're still as warm and welcoming as we used to be." Continues Sajid, "Kambhakth Ishq ceased to be just an exciting business venture after what happened to Mumbai in November. Suddenly all of us have become more sensitized. We need to prove a point to the world and to ourselves...I realize there's a black mark against Mumbai's name on the tourist map after 26/11. We will erase it. And to do that we need to invite the outside world to come to Mumbai and see that Mumbai is safe. I promise you, Stallone won't go back with any apprehensions about our city."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 1:45 pm Bachchans to attend Le Salon du Cinema in Paris as Big B's films will be screenedYou saw Anil Kapoor and A.R.Rahman at the Golden Globe Awards and you couldn't stop cheering them on. You also put your hands together for SRK and KJo while they walked the red carpet at the Golden Globes. Now please give a standing ovation for the Big Daddy of Indian cinema, Mr Amitabh Bachchan. Why? Read on. Le Salon du Cinema (Cinema Fair) in Paris is paying tribute to Indian Cinema for their new edition today, 15th January 2009, with Mr Amitabh Bachchan being the guest of honour joined by his wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter in law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, are organizing a White Night of his films. What's interesting is that apart from films like Ramesh Sippy's Sholay and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black being screened, Salon du Cinema discussed the choices with Mr. Bachchan and he personally wished to present Sarkar and Sarkar Raj to the French audience too. The films will be screened at the Fair, in Paris for about 400 viewers (professionals, distributors and local audience) on a first-come-first basis. Bollywood Hungama also learnt that the Salon du Cinema could have chosen Indian films already distributed in France but Sarkar and Sarkar Raj for them form a part of Mr. Bachchan's best work in the recent past and believe that the films can easily reach the European audiences. 15th evening will see a lavish opening ceremony celebrating Amitabh Bachchan's work. On the 16th January, prominent speakers such as Pan Nalin and Shubho Shekhar talk about Indian Cinema today and co production between India and France, and on the same day at about 8.15pm Paris time, Sarkar Raj will be presented to the world audience with Mr Amitabh Bachchan gracing the occasion followed by a dinner with the organizers team. We tried to get in touch with the director of Sarkar and Sarkar Raj, Mr Ram Gopal Varma but he was unavailable for comment. What we did get our hands on was a note from Ramu on Sarkar which reads: The God Father is a film which has influenced me a lot. I have lived with that story for 25 years ever since I've read the book. The film struck a strong resonance across the worldwide audience because people like Sarkar exist in every country on the map. They could be political leaders, underworld dons, dictators or kings...all of them have the same story. The Sarkar movies are about framing and showcasing the aura of power. Each and every aspect of filmmaking be it music or screenplay or cinematography were employed for one and only purpose that is to capture the intensity in the actor's eyes, through which we see a world of high drama be it politics, treachery, revenge, passion, courage, love or relationships. We do feel that it would've been good to see all the three top directors, Mr Ram Gopal Varma, Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mr Ramesh Sippy along side the Bachchan's at the Salon du Cinema celebrating what is and will be considered to be Big B's top three performances of his acting career. Nevertheless, it is a big achievement for the Indian cinema.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 1:12 pm Bipasha flies back from Kashmir to MumbaiDownload image as wallpaper Bipasha, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kapoor are in heaven. And the Lamhaa makers are making the best of it, shooting what could possibly be the only Hindi film to be shot in Dal Lake at this time of the year. Kashmir has this time been much kinder to Bipasha than the last time, so much so that the anxious producer-director actually let her leave for one night on Wednesday to dance for an awards function then return the next morning. Said the actress, "Yes I came back for the awards on Wednesday night for just one evening. I reached just in time to get into my costume and rush to the stage. It went really well." Bipasha is in a happy place right now. "It's great shooting in Srinagar. Very organized, very beautiful, but also very cold." Hence, the mystery of the unfrozen Dal Lake thickens.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Jan 2009 | 12:47 pm
