Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 13 Jan 2009 | 7:16 am From teen romance to relationshipsHis directorial debut POPCORN KHAO! MAST HO JAO [2004] was a teenage love story, based on the popular comic book characters, Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. His next film, TUM MILO TO SAHI, already complete, is a love story again, but depicts love in three different stages: The meeting of souls [Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia], the meeting of minds [Suniel Shetty, Vidya Malvade] and the meeting of hearts [Rehan Khan, Anjana Sukhani]. Director Kabir Sadanand sports a content look on his face as we sit for a tete-a-tete. "I could've started another film after POPCORN; there were offers aplenty. But I didn't want to start a film for the sake of starting one, for the sake of being busy," Kabir says. The actor-director says it wasn't tough getting the cast in order. "I had narrated the script to Dimple almost three years ago. The fact that she agreed to wait till I had the project in place, speaks volumes of her faith in the script. Convincing Nana wasn't tough either. He loved the role and also the script in entirety. Nana hasn't portrayed a role like this before, to the best of my knowledge," Kabir says. With Suniel, it was the other way round. Kabir had approached Suniel with the script a couple of years ago. There was no contact in between. Suddenly, one fine day, Suniel picked up the script, read its first four pages and immediately asked his manager to fix up a meeting with Kabir. "He was floored by the script," Kabir reminisces. Although TUM MILO TO SAHI looks at three different stories, Kabir clarifies that the stories don't appear in an episodic format like SALAAM-E-ISHQ or METRO. "The three pairs connect with each other at several points. In fact, the stories are interconnected," he states. Incidentally, all three stories are picked up from real life. Kabir and his co-writers Rajen Makhijani and Sameer Siddiqui have modelled the characters around people they know and have interacted with closely. Most directors often complain that it's tough to get the right producer to back their project, but Kabir feels he has the support of a thorough professional in producer Nikhil Panchamiya. "He has tremendous faith in the script and my abilities. He could've started any other film, but he chose this one. He keeps telling me, make it the way you had envisioned it, let's not cut corners," Kabir asserts. Meanwhile, this writer had a glimpse of the promos of TUM MILO TO SAHI. While most promos feature the usual song-n-dance routine and you can't judge what the actual content is, the promos of TUM MILO TO SAHI emphasise on content, on relationships specifically.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 13 Jan 2009 | 7:09 am Akki silences cynicsClick above for more movie stills Everyone knows that the CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA team of director Nikhil Advani and actors Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone have been touring various cities in U.S.A., Canada and U.K., holding premiere shows of the film, which have been attended by several heavyweights from the international community. The film has generated tremendous curiosity in the international markets and is expected to be a huge opener there, consolidating and cementing Akshay's status further. But a section of the industry feels that Nikhil and Akshay should've been in Mumbai, promoting CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA to the optimum in the desi market. The last-minute push, so essential for every film, is being missed sorely because of the absence of Akshay and Deepika, they feel. When this writer pointed it out to Akshay and Nikhil [they've reached U.K. for the London premiere of the film], Akshay decided to set the matters straight. "Warner Bros. and I know that we don't need to publicize myself in India. They [the Indian audiences] love me for who and what I am. It's the rest of the world we're worried about. Besides, I'm trying to put Chandni Chowk on the global map, attempting to take India globally. We're a brilliant industry in a wonderful country, why shouldn't we scream and shout about it? Anyone who thinks otherwise sounds ashamed to me," Akshay retorts. Akshay also feels that if a film like CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA works internationally, it'll open the doors for other Bollywood producers and films. "Everyone benefits jab business badhta hain," he states. Well said! Meanwhile, Akshay, Deepika and Nikhil will embark on a multi-city tour in India, as part of the promotions, once they return on Wednesday.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 13 Jan 2009 | 6:57 am Wishing Imran Khan a very happy BirthdayThere goes a famous saying in Bollywood that 'A newcomer is a newcomer only till someone buys the first ticket of his film'. Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 12 Jan 2009 | 6:07 pm "I want to win Oscar for the people of India than for myself" - A.R. RahmanA.R Rahman who turned 43 on Jan 6, has won The Golden Globe Award for his music in Slumdog Millionaire, the first Indian musician to do so. Bringing you excerpts from the interview he gave to Subhash K Jha before he left for the Golden Globe. I don't think any Indian musician has won the Golden Globe award? That's good. I see it as an honour for India, not just for me. More to come, hopefully. The Golden Globe is seen as a precursor to the Oscars. Let's hope so. I've my fingers crossed. When a film and my music get acceptance, it's the equivalent of an Oscar for me. For the people of India to get an Oscar is a big thing. So for their sake more than mine, I hope my song 'Jai Ho' and my music score in Slumdog Millionaire win the Oscar. Freida Pinto says of the 4 Golden Globe Nominations for Slumdog Millionaire, yours makes her the proudest. That's really sweet of her. I was in LA to have lunch with all the panel members of the Oscars. Also, to do press meets and promotion for Slumdog Millionaire which is getting a terrific response in LA. You know some critics in the US say it's one of the best films they've ever seen. It's not just about my music. It's the way the director Danny Boyle has put together the film. Please explain. The throbbing pulse of Mumbai is superbly captured in the film. Slumdog Millionaire (SM) is about suffering, hope and redemption. If my music in SM has made an impact in the West, it's because it's projected so effectively. Though some of the songs are in Hindi, nobody complained about them being boring or incomprehensible. 'Jai Ho', the song that has been nominated for the Golden Globe, 'O Saya' and 'Ringa Ringa' which is influenced by 'Choli Ke Peeche' are in a foreign language for them. But the Americans love it. Were you in the US to lobby for the Oscar for 'Jai Ho'? It's not about lobbying. It's about letting the jury members meet you, get to know you and decide if the person behind the creation is worth putting a vote for. As an artiste I need to be recognized on a human level. So I needed to go to Hollywood with my song 'Jai Ho'. I met all the top Hollywood soundtrack composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Danny Elfman. And what did they have to say about your music? They had genuinely warm comments for my music in Slumdog Millionaire. At first I thought they were just being sweet and polite. You know, LA is a kind of place where people in the entertainment industry say a lot of things they don't mean. So I double-checked. And these big guns in Hollywood really meant it. I think they love the Mumbai that they've seen in the film. And Danny has made terrific use of my music. The way he has mixed my songs, they're full-on, like a discotheque. Has Mumbai's image suffered a setback in the US after 26/11? Everyone is a bit shaken. Security has been tightened even more in the US. That's what I was subjected to in every hotel that I went. Everyone has to be more careful. There's a little bit of negativity about what happened. But the way they look at India, our music and cinema is very positive. You sound really upbeat. The image of Mumbai is still intact. Slumdog Millionaire has promoted Mumbai tourism to a great extent. I don't think any city in the world has been portrayed as vibrantly as Mumbai. I got the right vibes in LA. A lot of people want to come to India to collaborate in our entertainment industry. Akon and Nelly Furtado are interested. We just have need to carry it forward.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 12 Jan 2009 | 4:10 pm 'Indians aren't Bollywood-centric in their music taste'Upcoming Bangalore based Hindi band Swarathma feels that people in India are not Bollywood-centric in their music tastes and are 'open to good and new music'.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 12 Jan 2009 | 4:01 pm Big B to attend the London Premiere of Chandni Chowk To ChinaClick above for more movie stills As they say 'You can love it or hate it, but simply cannot ignore it.' That's exactly the case with the Akshay Kumar-Deepika Padukone starrer Chandni Chowk To China, whose promos are all over not just the place, but also the space, including cyber space! That's not all. The film's lead stars are walking every possible extra mile to ensure that the film is a superhit! Well, the news is that Akshay Kumar has invited none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan to attend the film's premiere in London. Big B is already in London for work related to Balki's next venture Pa, and has accepted Akshay's invitation. Interestingly, Akki also requested Big B to leave the 'thinking caps' behind while watching the film as CC2C is a full-on masala film. And when the request comes from one 'Reigning Superstar' to another, how can one refuse! With Big B's presence at the London premiere tonight, the event will definitely be one of the biggest Bollywood affairs to happen in the city.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 12 Jan 2009 | 3:32 pm India's day of glory at the Golden Globes

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 12 Jan 2009 | 3:15 pm Check Out: Aishwarya Rai with The Pink PantherAishwarya Rai's first release this year isn't a Bollywood film, neither is it a regional film. It is in fact the much awaited Hollywood film The Pink Panther 2. This sequel to the 2006 successful film The Pink Panther releases across cinemas in the US on Feb 6, 2009. The film is slated to release in India on Feb 20. In the film, Aishwarya Rai would be seen sharing screen space with Hollywood legends such as Steve Martin, Andy Garcia, Jean Reno, John Cleese and Alfred Molina. The Pink Panther series narrates the adventures of bumbling detective Insp. Jacques Clouseau played hilariously by Steve Martin. This time round, he is on a mission to stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historic artifacts. Aishwarya's character in the film is called Sonia. This is not Aishwarya's first attempt at being part of a Hollywood film. In fact, the Bollywood beauty and former Miss World is one of the few Indian actresses who has featured in many international productions such as Bride & Prejudice, The Mistress Of Spices, Provoked and The Last Legion. While Ash did manage to get her fair share of attention with some of these films, she would surely be hoping to get even more international fame and worldwide recognition with The Pink Panther 2.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 12 Jan 2009 | 2:25 pm A song for Sonam and her pet DoveDownload Delhi-6 wallpaper Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's much talked-about Delhi 6 has a large cast of distinguished actors. But the most delicate demanding and sensitive actor on location was...no, not Sonam Kapoor but a dove named Masakali who not only serves as the romantic leitmotif in the plot but also became a favourite of the entire cast, especially Sonam whom the dove became unbreakably attached to, almost like Mary's little lamb. So crucial was the dove to the film and its unit that a whole song was written and composed in its honour. The song 'Masakali' is sung by Mohit Chauhan whose voice A. R. Rahman had used in Rakeysh Mehra's Rang De Basanti. Speaking on the genesis of the dove song Rakeysh says, "The song was not really meant to be part of the narrative. I mean, who would think of putting in a song about a dove in a film like Delhi 6? It just happened. When I came to the pre-climax portion of my script, I was stuck. I needed a continuity link taking the narrative to its finale." That's where composer Rahman came to the rescue. "When I narrated the scene to him Rahman said, 'I can see a dove here.' I was taken aback. I had never mentioned Sonam's dove to Rahman. How did he know about it? That's how the song 'Masakali' was born." There seems to be plenty of anxiety about the music of Delhi 6. Says Rakeysh, "Is there anxiety? Not really. When Rahman and I did Rang De Basanti we didn't think about anything except how well the songs and music fitted into the plot. The music of Delhi 6 is again designed only for the film. The dove song 'Masakali' makes sense only within the parameters of our plot." There have been songs about pigeons ('Kabutar Jaa Jaa' in Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya) and a swan ('Oh Hanseeni'). But now about a dove in times of love.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 12 Jan 2009 | 1:30 pm "My next are a musical and a comedy, not TV serials" - Madhur BhandarkarAll those who believed that Madhur Bhandarkar can only make grim and dark cinema with realism and expose thrown in are up for surprise beginning 2010. While filming on Jail is about to be begin soon, a dark subject like this would give way to more feel-good cinema for at least a couple of years. That's because post Jail, Madhur Bhandarkar would take a break from 'reality' cinema and instead move on to more entertaining genres like a musical and a comedy. "Jail has being designed as a quickie and once the shooting would be through, I will extend myself to different genres and style of cinema as well. The two subjects that I have in mind would be a musical and a comedy respectively. I will begin work on them immediately after Jail is wrapped up. Both of them would be produced under the banner of 'Bhandarkar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.'", says Madhur Bhandarkar who delivered one of the biggest grossers of 2008 - Fashion - even as soothsayers were predicting that recession wouldn't allow an unconventional subject like that to succeed. What happens to his kick start as the man behind the camera for directing serials? There have been reports indicating that he would be donning the hat of a director for small screen in addition to the big screen! "What rubbish", Madhur is quick to respond here, "I had never said that at all. All that I had said was that my company 'Bhandarkar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.' would be making serials for the TV and people out there started predicting that I would be directing them as well." He adds, "My production company has different departments looking at films, TV and ads. Ashok Pandit and Raman Kumar, who are from the TV industry and very well understand the intricacies involved in making serials, would be supervising work for the TV serials. We will be making 10 interesting short stories of 1 episode each for the channel." Meanwhile work is happening full steam on setting the ground for beginning shoot on Jail. "We should have begun a little earlier but post 26/11, we were just not in any mood to get the final touches on the film's script. Neither my writer Manoj Tyagi nor I could get our minds in place for the film with all the tension around. Even today, I don't feel the same way as I used to before the incident. Anyways, now in the month of March we would kick start the filming", says Madhur Bhandarkar who has roped in Neil Nitin Mukesh for the role of the central protagonist for Jail. When Jail was launched with much fanfare in July last year, the publicity posters had flaunted 1st May as the release date of the film. What happens to that now considering the film's shoot is yet to begin? "'Obviously, Jail can't release in May now. It should be coming to theaters only after July/August 2009", says Madhur, whose last film Fashion's DVDs should be hitting the stands anytime now.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 12 Jan 2009 | 12:41 pm 022-61424800 - The 'Lustline' opens for Dev DClick above for more movie stills After launching a marketing campaign on internet that saw visitors logging on to the official website of Dev D to hear the lead character Chanda talk dirty, UTV has now went a step ahead. They have launched the 'Lustline' on phone as well where a caller, who is required to declare that he/she is more than 18 years old, can listen to a husky sounding girl at her naughty best. On this line, Kalki Koechlin (Chanda), who enacts the role of Chandramukhi in Anurag Kashyap directed Dev D (based on 'Devdas'), gives a caller numerous options to choose between English, Hindi, French and Tamil. 022-61424800 is the 'Lustline' contact number for which lines are already open. This is the first time ever that a bold campaign like this has been planned, something which truly goes as per the mood, flavor and setting of the film. Moreover, for Dev D where sex and lust plays an integral part of the narrative, a marketing tool like this is being looked at just apt and also quite innovative. Says a source attached to the film, "We want to give audience a hint of what to expect in the film. Of course, the film is based on a piece of literature but with current milieu in which Dev D is set, Chanda is shown to be a girl belonging to upper class who operates in the dingy lanes of Paharganj in Delhi. An exotic femme fatale who seduces men, she is required to get into lusty chats, something that has been projected on the 'Lustline'." A first ever initiative of it's kind as far as Bollywood is concerned, this promotional drive is all set to shock quite a few because not just it brings the word 'sex' out of closet, it also pushes the envelope with the leading lady of the film being open about the lust factor in her very first film. "The makers want the audience to be prepared about what to expect from the film. Of course Dev D is a musical with as many as 18 songs and while this very fact also forms an integral part of the film's narrative and hence the marketing, the sexuality angle that Chanda brings in can't be ignored either. She is young, naughty and sexy and this is what callers would get to know when they dial the number", adds the source.
