Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 8 Jan 2009 | 10:55 am "Aladin will release in summer 2009" - Sujoy GhoshSujoy Ghosh's most ambitious project till date, Aladin, was last slated to arrive in Christmas 2008. However, Ghajini too chose the same timing for its arrival and coupled with other unforeseen circumstances, Aladin had to be pushed all the way into 2009. However, Sujoy is in no tearing hurry to bring the film quickly to the theaters. He is waiting for the right release timing and is now aiming at summer 2009 for the film's arrival. "I am looking at a June/July release of Aladin. I am happy though with the principal shooting of the film which is through. The post production work is currently underway but I don't want to rush it up", says Sujoy who managed to rope in biggies like Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt for his children's fantasy film. Before going on floors, Aladin was in trouble for quite some time. Rohan Sippy, the original producer of the film chose not to be associated with it anymore due to budgetary issues and Sujoy had to take the mettle of producing the film himself. Later, there were talks about Sanjay Dutt no more being the part of the film due to his arrest. There were also rumors around his replacement, which were simply laughed away by Sujoy since he knew what the truth was. Later, even as the film's shoot went on peacefully, the earlier plan of Diwali 2008 release seemed out of reach due to which Christmas was chosen as the eventual D-Day. Now with a further six month delay in the film's release, doesn't it get frustrating for Sujoy Ghosh who would be looking at shrugging away the Home Delivery (2005) failure? "I don't think on those lines at all. It is a family film with children as the target audience; hence it is of utmost importance that Aladin releases in the season which is perfect for the arrival of family entertainers. If not a Diwali or a Christmas, it has to be during summer vacations; no two ways about it", informs Sujoy. Aladin is also special because with this film, Eros International (which is producing the film in association with Sujoy Ghosh's production company Boundscript) also makes a foray into visual effects with their recently launched EyeQube Studios. Meant to boast of hi-end special effects film, the film stars Riteish Deshmukh in the title role of Aladin and also introduces Jackie Fernandez opposite him. The film has music by Vishal-Shekhar and also features songs sung by Amitabh Bachchan as well as Sanjay Dutt.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Jan 2009 | 10:54 am Snippets - Aditya Chopra to reshoot Yash Raj filmMUMBAI (Reuters) - Here is a round-up of Bollywood news from Indian newspapers on Thursday, Jan 8. Folks we are talking about none other than the dare devil Akshay Kumar. We'll have to wait to see if his latest film Chandni Chowk To China will break or at least match up to the collections of the films of the other two superstars, namely SRK's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Aamir's Ghajini. But Akshay and the producers of CC2C are leaving no stones unturned to get this film a grand premiere. Believed to be the biggest possible premiere series lined up internationally for any Hindi film, CC2C's first international premiere will be held at the SJR theatre in LA tonight. In fact, not too long ago, the screens at this theatre were coloured by works of much acclaimed filmmakers like Clint Eastwoood's Gran Toriona (which was just two weeks back), The Dark Knight premiere, Oceans 13 premiere and many more. Looking at this we can surely say that Akki is planning to create a record of sorts with Chandni Chowk To China.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2009 | 4:41 pm Exclusive: Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6Doctors find it real tough to determine in a child as to whose genes the child has inherited the most: the mother or the father! Well, if the child is Sonam Kapoor, then, it becomes quite obvious that she has but of course inherited the genes of her ageless father Anil Kapoor! No wonder then, she was recently roped in by a cosmetic major. After her debut film Saawariya tanked at the B.O., Sonam Kapoor has been lying low. But as they say that this is just the lull before the storm, for this petite actress would now be seen in the much-awaited Delhi 6, where she is paired opposite none other than Abhishek Bachchan. The above picture is a still from the film, which has the innocent Sonam Kapoor adoring a dove! This snap simply makes everyone wonder as to if it's the doe-eyed Sonam adoring the dove, or the other way round! If the rumors are to be believed, then, Delhi 6 is a film that's about an American-born Roshan (played by Abhishek Bachchan), who brings his ailing grandmother back to India. It is here that he falls in love with the petite Sonam Kapoor and thus proceeds their love story in this eagerly awaited film! If the promos of the film are anything to go by, this beautiful lass is sure to storm her way into millions of hearts with Delhi 6. We too can't wait to get bowled over by this beautiful maiden.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2009 | 4:19 pm "I want to be a cricketer all my life" - Harbhajan SinghWith the sports oriented film based on cricket, titled Victory, coming up soon, Bollywood Hungama caught up with none other than Team India's Turbanator Harbhajan Singh who will also be seen in the film. So here's a free rolling conversation with 'Bhajji' about cricket, the film Victory and his future plans about Bollywood. What is your role in the film Victory? I play myself in Victory. When I heard the script, I got very enthusiastic about it as it is a sports film with cricketers from all over the world acting in it. How was it working with the director, Ajitpal Mangat? Ajitpal Mangat and myself bonded very well as we both are Punjabis and we both like Makkai Di Roti & Sarso Da Saag. How was it working with Harman Baweja? Harman is a very warm person and I share a great rapport with him, we had a great time working together while filming shots for Victory. He is a very talented actor and I am sure after the film Victory releases, he will have the world moving behind him. After Victory releases, Harman will have the world moving behind him Would you call Victory your Bollywood debut film? I play myself in Victory and I am a part of Vijay Shikhawat (Harman)'s team. My life is cricket and I don't know about the future but I am sure I want to be a cricketer only all my life, and as an answer to your question no I would not call the film Victory my debut film. Any particular reason you did Victory? I got to know from everybody that the script was very authentic and all my colleagues were a part of the film, so I too wanted to be a part of Victory. How was it acting for Ajitpal's Victory? It was a great experience, on field we have a captain who tells you what to do on the field but here, I had Ajitpal Mangat who wanted me to bowl in at particular speed so that the batsman could hit fours and sixes. It's something which I have never done in my life but I managed to do that (laughs). What if Victory-2 goes on floors and you are approached for the lead? No one has approached me yet but if they can afford my price I may think of doing Victory-2.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2009 | 3:32 pm "My character in Firaaq is close to the real me" - Tisca ChopraWhen, in 2007, Tisca Chopra received a raft of glowing reviews for her motherly efforts in Taare Zameen Par and then was announced as one of India's newest talent with many nominations, awards and rewards, most of her compatriots wondered where this new Indian phenomenon had sprung from. Unlike most of her Indian film star peers, she was not a household name or face. Her sudden rise to Bollywood prominence seemed oddly spectacular. Now, Tisca will be seen in Nandita Das's directorial debut Firaaq where she plays an urban upper class woman of today, a role she says is very similar to her in the real life. The film revolving around the communal riots which took place in Gujarat 2002 has already been screened at various international film festivals and has received a standing ovation. Already proven lucky for Aamir Khan as a debutant director, Tisca now gets ready to repeat the magic with Nandita, or will she? Harrow Observer UK and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent talks tough with the beautiful Tisca Chopra on Firaaq, what makes Firaaq different from Dev and Parzania, will Firaaq fall prey to politics, all this and much more in this exclusive interview. From Aamir Khan to Nandita Das, you're turning lucky for the debutant directors. What say? (Laughs) Well, Firaaq hasn't yet come out. So I can only say that I am hopeful. How did you get Firaaq? A friend of mine works for the Percept Picture Company and he asked me to go and meet Nandita Das. When I met her, she was extremely observant and was looking at me very closely and had the reading of script immediately. Normally I don't do that. I ask for a script ahead of time, take time to prepare and read. I did a reading which she put on tape and a few days later she called me to inform that I was a part of Firaaq. Nandita was extremely observant and was looking at me very closely and had the reading of script immediately Films on communal riots have been a part of our Hindi Film Industry. Dev and Parzania were both based on Gujarat riots, and now Firaaq. What makes this film different from the above two? I think the narrative because it talks about different stories and various sections of the society and how no one section will remain unaffected. There is an upper class, urbane English speaking couple, there is a music teacher, there is a middle class family, etc. So you have all these people who are affected by the riots on a larger scale. That's what makes Firaaq different and effective at the same time. Do you think as a debutant director, Nandita Das has done justice by not going into the conventional commercial mode of Hindi cinema? I think she has done justice as a filmmaker. I have a huge thing against commercial and non-commercial usage of cinema. A film is made to entertain and tell a story. Nandita has made a good story with a stellar star cast, the best we've got in India today. She is telling a tale the way she likes to tell it. People will see a commercial film at the end of the day. I don't think it's an art house film. Was Firaaq shot in Gujarat? Bits and pieces were shot in Gujarat but most of the principal shooting took place in and around Hyderabad. My role also allowed me to speak a bit of Gujarati in this film Parzania did not release in Gujarat due to the intense political tangle in the state. Do you think Firaaq will fall prey to politics? I am hoping not. One hopes that the audiences and our politicians have grown and matured. After what's happened in Mumbai, I think people have realised that it's not 'them' and 'us'. It's 'all of us'. We all are waiting for a concrete change now. How close do you associate yourself with your role in Firaaq and did any intense research go into it? One knows enough about the communal riots which took place in Gujarat. I am extremely aghast by what's happened there. So I didn't have to prepare for my role except for what was mentioned in the script. But in terms of the various characters I've played, this one is closest to me in terms of the social economic strata, the kind of language she speaks, etc. My role also allowed me to speak a bit of Gujarati. How tough was Nandita Das as a first time director? She is clear about what she wants. She is quite resourceful. Being an actor it is easy to be working with a director who has also been an actor because they understand the minor details of an actors working like what Aamir did and now Nandita has done. Will you accept any role given to you right now considering that you've worked with the likes of Aamir and Nandita? No I won't. I love reading full scripts. That's my theme. I am an avid reader of international and national books, screenplays; I watch a lot of movies too. If there is something that I haven't done before, I wouldn't mind taking that project up because it makes you more versatile. I am really looking forward to do a period film or a role which doesn't defy any gender like playing a terrorist, etc. I am really looking forward to do a period film or a role which doesn't defy any gender like playing a terrorist Why should one go and watch a non-entertainer called Firaaq this January? Haven't we seen enough of it yet? Firaaq is meaningful cinema I can't think of any other film that has got a cast like Firaaq. It's a difficult question because it is a good thought provoking film. I have seen Firaaq and I couldn't stop watching it. It is my next film after Taare Zameen Par, so please go and watch it. What's next after Firaaq? There is a bit of a surprise for my audiences. It's a comedy film by the same people who've made Bheja Fry. Then there is a film for Big Pictures directed by Vinay Shukla where I make a guest appearance. That's about it for now. Any parting message for your fans? Keep watching this space as I am going to do my best to make sure that you get the very best in entertainment.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2009 | 1:52 pm Jiah Khan fights for the safety of birds alongwith PETAAfter having the likes of John Abraham, Rakhi Sawant and gang doing their bit towards the prevention of the unethical treatment towards animals, it's the turn of the seductress actress Jiah Khan to do her bit for the same.
