The 'Secret' behind the Ghajini physiqueAamir Khan's much awaited film Ghajini opened across cinema halls to a thunderous response yesterday. The film which has been in the news ever since it was announced took a historic opening all over and die-hard Aamir fans couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift. Over the last few weeks, everything about the film, right from Aamir's hairstyle to his chiseled physique has been the talk of the town. Aamir's work out video has been quite a rage and ever since youngsters have been dreaming of acquiring a body like Aamir's. It's no wonder then that this artist decided to depict the sudden body-building frenzy in a humorous way. While Aamir's body in the film has tattoos of clues leading him to find his beloved's killer, the cartoon shows a beefed up person (a-la Aamir) whose body has tattoos of the steroids which he has to take to maintain his chiseled physique. While the cartoon does bring a smile on our face, we wonder what Aamir 'Perfectionist' Khan's reaction would be when he sees this picture? Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 26 Dec 2008 | 2:20 pm Kangna adopts 'maun', discovers her soulDownload image as wallpaper All of 21, Kangna Ranaut has seen and suffered a lot (in her own words) during last few years in showbiz! In an earlier conversation, she had admitted that she was going through bad times. She had said, "I got everything very soon in my life but personally my life was going through too much of trauma. I was really trapped by dirty people and they wouldn't let me concentrate on my work. They tried to harm me both physically as well as mentally." However, everything seems to be passe now ever since she moved on to 'yoga'. The biggest gift she's received from this, she says, is the practice of Silence or "Maun". The practice of staying silent physically brings to the fore the tremendous busy-ness of the mind and help to bring some quiet there as well. Effervescent and vivacious by nature, Kangna has found a 'thehrav' in her life ever since she adopted 'maun'. "Initially I found it very difficult to stay silent; however through perseverance I did manage to develop this as a regular part of my yoga practice and have benefited ever since." "When I am working, I have to give it 100%. So that's why I took a break for my personal work to sort out all my issues and only then got back to work. I did not want to struggle between work and personal issues. I am not that kind of a person. I can do only one thing at a time", she had stated earlier. "Now, through Silence, I feel I've discovered my Soul, the very centre of my being, which is the source of all my energy - creative, spiritual, emotional and mental. I've always been a very focused person, and I've chosen to portray characters in my film that are challenging and strong. This awareness and practice has given me greater ability to channel my energy effectively to deliver even better on these performances", she says in an obvious relaxed tone. Through shooting Raaz-The Mystery Continues, Kangna has been even more diligent about this practice. That's because the character is one who gets possessed and has to deal with the horrific consequences. "The role required a lot from me. It's a very intense role. So it was imperative to keep my practice alive during the outdoor schedules to be able to maintain the focus and equanimity needed to deliver the required performance." "I know where I want to go. That inner destination's where my eventual goal is", concludes Kangna.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Dec 2008 | 1:38 pm I'll be discharged from hospital tomorrow, says SaifSaif Ali Khan, who gave his family and friends a scare when he was hospitalised for abdominal pain, says he will be discharged Saturday and his holiday plans with Kareena Kapoor are on.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 26 Dec 2008 | 1:30 pm Designer duo get up, close, personal on TV with celeb wivesFashion designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are now finally set to make their television debut. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 26 Dec 2008 | 11:33 am "Surya convinced me to do Ghajini" - Aamir Khan"We are very pleased that the film is finally releasing now and in fact, we are sitting in PVR cinemas where the press show has just finished and the second is about to start. Couple of days back, the entire cast and the crew were tensed whether the film would release or not but we are glad to announce that Ghajini is finally releasing across cinemas today". These were the words coming out from Aamir Khan immediately after the first press screening of Ghajini got over at the PVR cinema in Juhu on Wednesday, December 24 at around 7.30pm. Accompanying him was director A.R. Murugadoss too. Harrow Observer's columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel was present during the surprise visit of perfectionist Khan. We get you some interesting tit bits by the actor as the media quiz him on the film, his co-star Asin, his X-mas celebrations, his New Year resolutions and much more. Why was this copyright issue brought up at the last time? This copyright issue has been with us for quite some time now and the producer of the film Allu Arvind was trying to resolve the issue in the court. The information I have with me was that the hearing was over by 10th December but the order came on the 23rd December. We appealed on the same day and you won't believe how happy I am today that our film is officially releasing. The producer has deposited Rs. 5 crore in the court and there is no stay on the film. Whoever has seen the film are saying that there is a lot of violence shown in the film. The response I've just got before I came in to meet you all is that the film is being appreciated and the kind of advance bookings for Ghajini is the highest ever for a Hindi feature film because it's four times more than the previous films. I am happy that there is a lot of excitement surrounding the film. I am waiting for the response from the audience. Surya convinced me and said that I was the only one who could do justice to the character How different or difficult was it to portray a character who talks more with his eyes than his mouth? To play the character was very difficult but I don't want to say anything about my role. Please let the audiences come out and we will talk then. Normally a film title is based on the name of a hero or heroine. This one is based on a villain called Ghajini. The film is called Ghajini because it's the only clue which the hero has. That's the only name he wants to find and kill. What was your biggest inspiration while you did Ghajini? Surya, the actor who was in the original Tamil version of the film Ghajini. He has done a fantastic job. After watching the film, I was a bit hesitant whether to do the film or not. I was in two minds. Surya convinced me and said that I was the only one who could do justice to the character. He pushed me to do Ghajini. As you've now got a lot of hair cutting experience behind you and then the legal hassles to face, do you think aap baal baal bach gaye? (laughs) I am feeling very relieved and nice to know that there are no more legal hassles. What have you to say on the paintings gifted to you by Salman Khan which Asin unveiled three days back? I am truly touched by the gestures of Salman Khan. He is such a great artist and I didn't know that till I saw his work. He has made some amazing paintings on Ghajini and I thank him for that. Salman is such a great artist. He has made some amazing paintings on Ghajini and I thank him for that How did you relate those paintings with your character in the film? One of the portraits he has made matches my looks and the personality in the film. The second one is a much conceptualized version of the same. Pirated cd's and dvd's will be available from day two after the film releases. Aren't you angry? I am but what can we do about it. No one is ready to take action against this crime. How true is it that yourself and Salman are forming a team or a camp against SRK? There is no truth in that at all. I think, Salman, Shah Rukh and me are individuals in our own right. I have a relationship with SRK and Salman. Both are friends and there are no camps or anything like that. Anushka and Asin, both have made their debut. Who do you think will win an award come 2009? What awards are you talking about and to whom are you asking this question! (Laughs) Only our audiences can give awards, nobody else. How do you intend to celebrate Christmas this year? I am going to be at home with my family for Christmas. With so much goodwill surrounding you in the industry and your films going to the Oscars and the BAFTA's and people talking good about you and your films, this time around, are you ready to face criticism? I am always open for criticism. What if you get to know that Ghajini is not up to the mark? If people don't like any of my films then I treat it as a learning experience. What excited you to do Ghajini? What excited me about this film was the action, the story, the exciting screenplay and above all, the love story in the film. That really won my heart. One of the main reasons I did this film was A.R. Murugadoss. When I met him it felt like meeting a kid who has this toy in his hand. All my expectations were fulfilled after working with him. He is so clear and understands the film so well that it's really amazing. The Oscar committee saw Taare Zameen Par and has praised it. What have you got to say about it? The committee liked the film a lot and the concerned person called me to congratulate me on how good Taare Zameen Par was. That doesn't mean that we are nominated because I am sure he liked other films too. But the fact that he has taken the effort to call was touching and I am very happy about it. Aamir, I've lost a bit of my memory. Can you please tell me who was the lead actor in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi? Why do you guys do this to me yaar. You like such things, don't you? One day because of you, I'll be beaten up badly (laughs). Who according to you has got the best body in business in Bollywood? In male, it has to be John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan and in females it has to be Kareena Kapoor because she is very good looking and has a great body. What is your New Year resolution? I haven't yet thought about it. But I will be going to the theatres to watch my film Ghajini in disguise. Where and how I am going will be kept a secret (laughs).Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Dec 2008 | 11:20 am Akshay rocked Hong Kong on Christmas DayHong Kong's wait for the night of glitz and glamour was finally over, when the who's who of Indian entertainment will marked their presence and floored fans from across the globe with their charismatic performances. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 26 Dec 2008 | 10:14 am Subhash K. Jha speaks about GhajiniAt mid-point when we watch in stunned silence as the protagonist tries to piece together his shattered life, an abrasive aggressive cop rummages through drawers for the second part of our memory-challenged hero's belligerent blood-thirsty love story. The cop's anxiety is ours. By the time we reach interval we want to know about the trauma that changed the suave softspoken shy Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) into a killing machine. Earlier this month, we saw Shah Rukh Khan achieve a smooth 'chuckle'-and-hyde transition in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, from a staid middleclass husband to a boorish dancing dude. Aamir Khan's makeover in Ghajini is far trickier and complex. It's not so much about the muscles. It's all in the mind. To play this character whose life changes overnight from a thirst for love to a hunger for vendetta, is an awesome responsibility to uphold for any actor. Aamir plays the traumatized amnesiac Singhania as an actor looking from the outside at a character that has detached itself from its own life. It's a performance of splendid skill and subtlety in a film that doesn't celebrate those qualities. Mercifully this ode to mayhem is not a showcase for Aamir's muscles and histrionic hijinks. He reins in his gusto to let the character's stunning switch from roses to guns acquire a life that we haven't perceived such a stereotypical character achieve before. Often Aamir lets his hugely-charming co-star Asin take over the scenes. She's a bit of a livewire, this fast-talking scooter-riding do-gooder with a penchant for getting into snarls. And when one snarl involving a prostitution racket for minor girls takes her to the doorstep and beyond of savage death, we mourn for the passing of innocence and charm as much as Sanjay Singhania. These are not pretty times that we are living through. Ghajini in some subverted way is indicative of our traumatic times. The brutal cocksureness with which the villain Ghajini(Pradeep Rawat) murders Kalpana and pounds Sanjay Singhania's head to a memory mess, is a telescopic view of what the sociopath can do to civil society. No one is safe from criminal attack. Not even the super-elite like Sanjay Singhania. Ghajini is not for the squeamish. The violence is prolonged, sadistic and often done with the elaborate abundance and eye-catching elan of a staged opera (Ravi Chandran's camerawork glistens and bristles with optimum optical glory). And yet women in the audience seemed to love the film. Ghajini is at heart a love story of a cocooned tycoon who discovers love in a working-class environment. Aamir Khan's expressions of bewilderment, curiosity pleasure and acceptance in Asin's company remind you of a baby that's just discovered mother-love. That a film as violent as Ghajini secretes such tenderness at its heart, is a wonder that never ceases in the frenetic narration. Director Murugadoss is not completely successful in taking the Tamilian mood of melodramatized mayhem out of the narrative. He nevertheless succeeds in giving a compelling spin to what would have otherwise been a routine vendetta saga. Sequences such as the one in the speeding train where Kalpana is chased down by goons have an edge-of-the-seat quality that elevates the potboiler plot to a level that the revenge genre in Hindi has seldom achieved. The climactic combat with the eponymous villain is staged in narrow dusty lanes and bylanes where the rubble and waste material becomes lethal weapons of attack and stock-taking. No doubt Murugadoss is a master of violence. His eye for pain and trauma are unerring and chilling. A lot has been said and written about Aamir Khan's pumped-up physique. He's wonderfully primeval as the amnesiac animal screaming in bloodcurdling isolation. But the sinewy quality in Aamir's performance is not traceable to his muscles. It's the way his heart beats for this unfortunate character who loses love memory and faith all in one swoop, that makes Aamir's performance a towering achievement. I am not too sure if the muscled look suits the actor. But his remarkable grip over his character's graph gives the film its vaunted and vibrant feel of poetry beyond the in-your-face savagery and violence which would have otherwise become unbearably oppressive. Asin with her gamine-like dukaan of expressions is the female discovery of 2008. When she bows out of the plot, the lights go out. And not just from Sanjay Singhania's life.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Dec 2008 | 9:43 am Saif Ali Khan admitted to hospitalMumbai (Reuters) Actor Saif Ali Khan was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Thursday after he complained of stomach pain, a hospital spokesperson said.Source: Reuters: Bollywood News | 26 Dec 2008 | 9:42 am Ghajini: Movie Review - Economic Times
