After having dabbled (successfully) in various communicative media, the versatile Roshan is now all set to take the big leap. Roshan Abbas would be directing his maiden film early next year and if the buzz is to be believed, the project is backed by none other than SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment. Bollywood Hungama spoke to the man with the golden voice - Roshan Abbas - to get some more dope on this latest development, "Yes, it's true that I am directing my first film in 2009. Not many know, but I finished my Masters in Filmmaking way back from Delhi. After that it just so happened that because I was doing a lot of theatre and stage shows, I ended up becoming an anchor. In 1999, I had written and directed a play called 'Graffiti' about life at high school. The play was a runaway success with great music and excellent choreography by Shiamak Davar. However, during that time, it was very difficult for me to carry the play to different cities considering the big canvas that it had. Later in the year 2003, I came up with the idea of making a film on the lines of the play 'Graffiti' and along with my co-writer Ranjit Raina developed the screenplay for the film. In between, I got busy with my company 'Encompass' and a lot of other stuff. However earlier this year, I suddenly seemed to have some time for myself after divesting 50% stake of my company. That's when I decided that I should start working on my film. As a radio person, you have spoken to a city; as a TV guy you have spoken to a country but ultimately the biggest canvas that you look for as a communicator is cinema and that's how I decided to go ahead with this film." So what is the film about and would it star new faces or established names? "My film is very much on the lines of the play 'Graffiti' that I wrote and directed. The film is set in a high school and will try to capture the various emotions such as love, jealousy, pride that one goes through during school days. I believe some of the best days of our life are the ones that we spend in high school and it is this period of one's life that the film will portray. As for the cast, I truly believe that 15 year olds should play 15 year olds and hence my film will star new faces." Coming to the most important question, is it true that the SRK's company Red Chillies Entertainment is producing the film? "I have done quite a few shows with Shah Rukh and during one of these shows, I just bounced off the idea of this film to him. He later called me for a narration. He has pretty much liked what he heard and even came up with his own valuable suggestions. As of now, we are still under discussions and there are some things to be finalized. I hope to make a formal announcement sometime in January 2009. At this stage, all I can say is that I am definitely making this film in 2009 and I would be more than happy if it's backed by SRK's Red Chillies," signs off Roshan Abbas.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Dec 2008 | 3:10 pm Which country will host IIFA 2009?IIFA 2007 took place in the beautiful scenic country side location of the county Yorkshire in the U.K. The following year (2008) saw Bangkok host the prestigious event. However, the one question that everyone is asking right now is, "Which country or city will host the IIFA 2009?" Until now, many of our celebrities and the media were speculating New York to host it. But it seems that IIFA might just not be traveling to the U.S. Since last few weeks, IIFA is too busy tackling the above important question and it looks like they have a lot of options to play around with in 2009. So, if you are planning your summer holidays to some of the exotic European or Asian destinations, chances are that you may just bump into the Indian Film Industry's biggest stars. Recently, the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Management was approached by the delegations from various European locales to come and celebrate their tenth year extravaganza in their city capitals. The Turkish delegation was led by their Prime Minister who was recently in India pitching for the IIFA Awards Weekend that will take course in June of 2009. The land of the Blue Mosque and the Bosporus Bridge may just be the locale that the Academy is looking to visit. But some other offers have come pouring in too, which is making IIFA's job even tougher. One of the many being Warsaw, who've also been vying for the prestigious weekend and the Polish capital may just witness a host of Indian celebrities come down to their city. Known for its castles and greenery, this romantic city put in its bid for IIFA looking at promoting the country in emerging markets. One of the other prominent countries in the Fashion and Art of the world, Italy is a country drenched in culture, and history. From the Pantheon to the Colosseum, it may just be that all roads will lead to Rome come June 2009. Having said that, IIFA might also be seen going to their favourite 2007 country, the U.K, as the Welsh people from the Wales have also bid for the special weekend function. Looks like the Welsh dragon is already getting desperate after seeing the Yorkshire terrier taking away the IIFA glory in 2007. And finally, the last of the two cities who've bid for the IIFA Weekend is Shanghai and the Macau city of China, reviving the five decade old slogan, hindi chini bhai bhai. With the onset of a decade of celebrations about to take place in just less than 5 months, one thing is for sure, the Indian Film Fraternity and the IIFA can look forward to a Eurasian Anniversary next year.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Dec 2008 | 2:12 pm Kannada star Upendra teams with Celina Jaitley for bilingualKannada star Upendra has teamed up with Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley for a bilingual movie in Kannada and Telugu, scripted by the actor himself.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 16 Dec 2008 | 2:01 pm Shilpa Shetty gets 15 stitches on her footDownload image as wallpaper For all those who believe in 'evil eye' (buri nazar), here's a piece of news that will re-affirm your belief in the same. Shilpa Shetty aka 'Miss Long legs' was recently in the news for reasons more than one (the 'Big Brother' controversy included). But what really took the cake was her power-packed yoga DVD that she launched amidst massive fanfare, and needless to say that her never-ending legs really held the eyeballs of the viewers intact. Now the sad news is that, it is these legs that have got hurt. The reason? Well, it was all thanks to a freak accident that Miss Shetty speaks about, in her famous blog. She says, "The whole of last week just flew experiencing this near war situation in Mumbai, the place I was born in and unconditionally love. In all this chaos, I completely forgot that I hurt my foot bad enough to get 15 stitches, in a freak accident, thanks to my big sunglasses and nose in the air; I overlooked a sharp metal piece that slit my foot, thankfully not below but over the foot!" The sweetie Shilpa also assures that, this injury will not affect her dates for her new film Desire (an Indo-Chinese project), starring her first foreign actor Xia Yu from China. Needles to say that the svelte actress is all excited to work with him as well as the film's director R. Sarath, who happens to be a big name down south. Shilpa aptly ends her blog stating that "Moral of the story is - Look before you leap and stay grounded!" We couldn't argue on that!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Dec 2008 | 2:00 pm
