Shah Rukh Khan speaks for the first time about the Mumbai tragedy

Shah Rukh Khan has spoken for the first time about his thoughts on the Mumbai atrocities. Speaking exclusively to Raj and Pablo for this Saturday's (6 December) 'Love Bollywood' Show on BBC Asian Network, Shah Rukh speaks openly about why he hasn't talked about the attacks till now as well as his views on what the younger generation of Muslims should be concentrating on. Shah Rukh said "I've tried to keep away from commenting on this as there are no words to express a situation like this because our feelings are mixed with anger, disbelief and sadness." In light of the horrific attacks, Shah Rukh went on to give his thoughts on religion and the younger Muslim generation. "Being Muslim myself, I believe youngsters need to understand Islam and respect the religion in the right way. It's such a huge waste and my appeal to all in these times and in recent years is that please can we run what we want in terms of politics, government, jobs and teaching our children with the prime motive of taking communalism out of it. I think no agenda should be attached to any kind of religion." Shah Rukh spoke passionately about his views on what he feels should be the only religion the nations' children should follow - 'work'; he goes on to say, "The religion our children are born with should be something they practice as a discipline and work should be developed as the new religion."

A. R. Rahman uses his compositions of Lajjo for Mani Ratnam's Raavana

Mani Ratnam and A.R. Rahman have given many a musical hits together such as Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Yuva and most recently Guru. Everytime the famous South Indian director thinks of making a film, he can think of no one else but Rahman to compose the music for his film. Rahman had even composed some tunes for Mani Ratnam's now shelved project Lajjo. The film was to star Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, but due to certain reasons never took off. Now, the buzz has it that a few of the songs which Rahman had composed for Lajjo would be used by Rahman in Mani Ratnam's current project Raavana (working title). Mani Sir, as he is fondly known as, is once again directing the famous Abhi-Ash jodi in this drama and when Rahman approached Mani with the thought of using some of his earlier composed songs (from Lajjo) in this film, Mani readily agreed. One thing's for sure, if the music of Raavana turns out to be a chartbuster, Aamir and Kareena would surely rue their luck.

Neil Mukesh records title track of Aa Dekhen Zara

We had earlier told you that Neil Mukesh would be making his singing debut in Jehangir Surti's film Aa Dekhen Zara (earlier titled Freeze). Now Neil has gone ahead and recorded his song for the film. The song called 'Aa Dekhen Zara' is a modern day remix version of the popular dance number from the Sanjay Dutt- Tina Munim starrer Rocky which released way back in 1981. The makers of Aa Dekhen Zara have got the rights for this original Pancham Da number and have given the song a modern day flavor. While Pritam has composed the music for the film, Gaurav Dasgupta has been the man behind this remix number. After having impressed one and all with his acting histrionics, will Neil be able to create magic with his vocal chords? One will have to wait and watch or should we say wait and hear!

Mumbai terror aftermath - Vishal Dadlani files petition for CHANGE

"I have been mighty upset ever since the Mumbai terror attack. The disappointment is not just for those ghastly three days that I spent in front of TV but also the activities around me that have been taking place ever since then", says a visibly disturbed Vishal Dadlani who is now filing a petition for CHANGE. "It is good to see us venting our frustration through blogs, SMSes and other means. However, I want people to stand up for the cause and do something about it as well. This is why I am filing a petition for CHANGE. I am addressing media here. I think that in the absence of responsible self-censorship, the media must be instructed to act in a particular manner, as required by on-ground reality." For this purpose, he has opened a website www.smallchange.in through which he is calling people to sign a petition that aims at inviting a change in the way electronic media operates in such times of National distress and emergency. He says, "Just like the rest of the world, I saw our local Police try to figure things out, I watched our valiant Officers Karkare, Salaskar and Kamte arrive, and almost immediately, lose their lives. I saw the NSG and Marcos arrive and started to watch each step of their operation, when suddenly, realization dawned! Over the next thirty or forty hours, I watched, helpless and frustrated, as our very own electronic media did things that seemed blatantly wrong to me. What they were broadcasting in the name of the news, were in fact the exact operational procedures, locations, and actions of our anti-insurgency forces! Minute-by-minute!" Vishal goes on to put forth the following questions: 1. Is it acceptable to us that what should have been a classified operation, was in fact an open book? Are we fine with the fact that terrorists inside the besieged buildings could have had real-time access to the same news channels that we did, thus giving them complete and thorough information about the actions of our forces? 2. Whether it's correct, both morally and legally, for a TV channel to broadcast to the Nation, an alleged live phone call, purportedly from one of the terrorists? 3. Some TV channels also had "live-and-direct" phone conversations with guests within the hotels, in which the said guests divulge their locations and room numbers. I can't see the point, or the newsworthiness of this. In his Petition to the High Court of Mumbai, he is also looking at the Hon'ble Court calling for the complete and unedited footage from all TV News Channels broadcasting the attacks 'live', starting from 9:30pm on Wednesday 26th November 2008 and until the morning of Saturday the 29th November 2008. "I urge more and more people to come forward and be with me in this initiative. Please visit www.smallchange.in to read the full text of the Petition and sign there to support the cause. I am willing to drive this initiative to the fullest and promise to go to Court as and when it is required. I don't want the voice to die down", concludes Vishal.

Music release of 'Chandni Chowk...' on Dec 9; 'The President...' now in Jan 09

Download CCTC wallpapers In the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks, a lot of filmmakers have shifted/postponed their film releases keeping in mind the grim situation in the city and across the nation. Last week's two new releases Sorry Bhai and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! despite fetching decent reviews, failed to attract the footfalls at the cineplexes, as people just didn't seem to be in a mood to go and catch a film. The first Friday of December (Dec 5) was initially supposed to see as many as seven new releases but two of them- Khallballi- Fun Unlimited and Kaashh...Mere Hote have now been shifted ahead for obvious reasons. Producer-director Rohan Sippy's English language film, The President Is Coming, was supposed to hit the cinema halls last Friday (Nov 28) but owing to the grim situation in the city, he decided to postpone the release. Bollywood Hungama got in touch with Rohan's spokesperson to get the latest update on the release status of The President Is Coming, "The President Is Coming will now release in January of 2009. Rohan obviously thought this was not the right time for his film to release. Moreover, the promos have been getting a very encouraging feedback and hence he feels a later date will only benefit the film." Not just his film release, Rohan has even shifted the music release of his forthcoming Akshay Kumar- Deepika Padukone starrer Chandni Chowk To China. The music launch was scheduled to take place today evening (Dec 2) but has now been pushed to Dec 9 owing to the situation in the city. Must say, this is indeed a wise and smart move by Rohan!

2 out of 6 films slated this Friday have decided to move ahead

Click above for more movie stills The terror attacks on Mumbai have affected film business and how! The two new releases, OYE LUCKY! LUCKY OYE! and SORRY BHAI!, have taken a severe beating at the box-office. While OYE LUCKY! LUCKY OYE! had a 15% - 20% occupancy over the weekend, SORRY BHAI! cut a sorry picture almost everywhere. In fact, the management of theatres/plexes were forced to cancel shows due to lack of audiences. The coming Friday [December 5] was to witness a plethora of medium-budget/low cost films, like MAHARATHI, DIL KABADDI, KHALLBALLI - FUN UNLIMITED, OH, MY GOD!!, MEERABAI NOT OUT and KAASHH... MERE HOTE. However, the producers of KHALLBALLI - FUN UNLIMITED and KAASHH... MERE HOTE have decided to shift the film to a latter date. "The timing isn't right," Riaz Haider, the Project Head of One More Thought [KHALLBALLI - FUN UNLIMITED] says. The new date will be decided in a day or two. On the other hand, KAASHH... MERE HOTE has been shifted to December 19. "Two reasons why we postponed our film," music director turned producer Shravan Rathod tells me, "With so many films arriving on December 5, we felt it would kill the prospects of our film. Two, it'll take time for people to come out of the depressing phase [the terror attacks in Mumbai]. Hence, we decided to shift KAASHH... MERE HOTE to December 19." It would be interesting to see how MAHARATHI, DIL KABADDI, OH, MY GOD!! and MEERABAI NOT OUT perform this Friday.

The fact that he has chosen to work with GQ is a testament to the magazine's 50-year old reputation as a publication featuring and read by intelligent, successful men. What makes the cover story even more special is the fact that Karan Johar, allegedly a member of a rival camp in the film industry, has interviewed Khan - for the first time. The result is an entertaining, candid conversation that even Bollywood skeptics would find engaging." We just couldn't argue on that!

Prasoon Joshi pens a poem in the wake of recent terror attacks

During our childhood, we all must've written poems and essays stating, 'India is my country and I am very proud of it'. The sad part however is that, today, it seems that we are not doing enough to make our country proud. After all the untimely attack on Mumbai, the Master of words...Mr. Wordsmith himself, Prasoon Joshi, in his way through the free-flowing poetry, leads us from darkness to light. Presented here are the gems from his touching poem: Is baar nahin Is baar jab woh choti si bachchi mere paas apni kharonch le kar aayegi Main usey phoo phoo kar nahin behlaoonga Panapney doonga uski tees ko Is baar nahin Is baar jab main chehron par dard likha dekhoonga Nahin gaoonga geet peeda bhula dene wale Dard ko risney doonga, utarney doonga andar gehrey Is baar nahin Is baar main na marham lagaoonga Na hi uthaoonga rui ke phahey Aur na hi kahoonga ki tum aankein band karlo, gardan udhar kar lo main dawa lagata hoon Dekhney doonga sabko hum sabko khuley nangey ghaav Is baar nahin Is baar jab uljhaney dekhoonga, chatpatahat dekhoonga Nahin daudoonga uljhee door lapetney Uljhaney doonga jab tak ulajh sake Is baar nahin Is baar karm ka hawala de kar nahin uthaoonga auzaar Nahin karoonga phir se ek nayee shuruaat Nahin banoonga misaal ek karmyogi ki Nahin aaney doonga zindagi ko aasani se patri par Utarney doonga usey keechad main, tedhey medhey raston pe Nahin sookhney doonga deewaron par laga khoon Halka nahin padney doonga uska rang Is baar nahin banney doonga usey itna laachaar Ki paan ki peek aur khoon ka fark hi khatm ho jaye Is baar nahin Is baar ghawon ko dekhna hai Gaur se Thoda lambe wakt tak Kuch faisley Aur uskey baad hausley Kahin toh shuruat karni hi hogi Is baar yahi tay kiya hai ... Remaking old films has become quite common in Bollywood these days; hence director Jagmohan Mundhra and producer Nari Hira have decided to go ahead to remake a popular tele-film of the 80's called Shingora. Bollywood Hungama spoke to Mundhra who gave some more details on this project. "Yes...it's true that I am directing a film called Shingora. Mr. Nari Hira, who made the tele-film way back in the eighties, is himself producing the film." So who all have been roped in for the project? "As of now, only Ronit Roy has been confirmed. We will be deciding on other cast members very soon. The film goes on floors in January next year", signs off Jag.

"If you are not a star kid, at least be talented" - Richa Chadda

Young Richa Chadda understands that it isn't everyday that one gets a good enough break into movies. Big or small, a break is a break and one has to not just grab it with both hands but also give your best to make people stand up and take notice. Debuting as a second lead in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (Abhay Deol tries to impress her in order to reach out to one of the three characters played by Paresh Rawal), Richa is frank enough to admit that if you are not a star kid, at least talent may come handy. "There are many ways for breaking into Bollywood. You could do that through modeling, advertisements or simply be born as a star kid. I don't come with any of the three qualifications and hence the only way left for me is to showcase my talent. I guess at a beginning, talent may not really be THE glamorous way of reaching out to the audience but it certainly is a much more meaningful way", reasons Richa, a Delhite who had a brief stint as a journalist after graduating from Delhi University. "To be honest, even Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! didn't come to me in a platter. It wasn't like Dibakar narrated the script to me and asked if I was interested. Sorry, it was some journey for me since I had to go through the audition and then got the part. Now is that big or small is a different question but the fact is that it is a very good break", says Richa. So is she satisfied with the final product? "Honestly speaking, I like the way I perform because this is the way I want to approach my role. Also, I know that the end product has been brilliant so even though I may have a small part, tomorrow if Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! is nominated for say Oscars, it would be a feather in my cap too", quips Richa. With a middle of the road cinema like this, has Richa made a conscious decision to stick to such kind of cinema? "See, I have to make money too so I would be working in different kind of films too. However, I'm a not too sure how a hardcore commercial entertainer may turn out to be, even if it is set on a huge scale. I have to be a part of one to experience the difference. But yes, doing something like I have done in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! , i.e. playing the part of a middle class girl, is something that I would love to do again in future too", concludes Richa.

"New York is a dramatic thriller" - John Abraham

A lot is happening in the life of John Abraham. His 'body beautiful' was on ample display in Dostana and was highlighted as a USP of the film. His good performance came as further icing on the cake (and a surprise to many of his detractors). The film opened to very good collections and he was back in the reckoning again after most of 2008 being rather low key. Soon, he announced his decision of working in an action film but meanwhile he can't stop singing praises about his next big release New York [which he insists is yet a working title]. The principal shooting for New York is complete and the film is currently into post production. Meanwhile, John too would be soon moving to his next two projects but in the interim, he can't stop gushing about his experience of working with Kabir Khan again after Kabul Express. "The way Kabir has directed the film is to be seen to be believed. I guess he is the new man on the horizon. Mark my words, he is the one to watch out for", says John who returns to yet another Yash Raj production after Kabul Express and Dhoom. "It was one of the longest outdoor schedules I have been a part of and probably the most exhilarating too. We shot for the film day in and night out at Philadelphia and New York. Eventually, we ended up being ahead of schedule. I am confident that I have yet another beautiful film in hand", adds John. Talking about his experience on working with the film, John says, "All credit to Adi (Aditya Chopra) and Kabir for making such a film. Whether it was story built up or characterization, they have worked so hard on getting it all just right for the film. Also Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh have been fantastic co-stars. The film is a dramatic thriller and a completely new kind of experience for me. As an actor, I feel enriched." Meanwhile, his Aashayein was earlier all set for release in the first half of 2008 but got delayed due to multiple reasons. In fact the publicity built up of the film had seen a rise way back in April' 08 before it came to a grinding halt after a few weeks. Now the buzz is that Aashayein is expected to release in January 2009. "Nagesh Kukunoor has made a brilliant film and I am proud of my performance there. My parents have seen the film and they were mighty impressed with the end product. I am looking forward to the release of the film; it is a story waiting to be told", signs off John.
