Jag Mundhra to direct the remake of the popular 80's tele-film Shingora

Remaking old films has become quite common in Bollywood these days; hence director Jagmohan Mundhra and producer Nari Hira have decided to go ahead to remake a popular tele-film of the 80's called Shingora. Bollywood Hungama spoke to Mundhra who gave some more details on this project. "Yes...it's true that I am directing a film called Shingora. The film is a hard hitting drama and is a remake of a popular tele-film of the same name which released in the mid eighties. The tele-film starred Persis Khambatta in a dynamic role along with Marc Zuber and was even the launch pad of Aditya Panscholi. Mr. Nari Hira, who made the tele-film way back in the eighties, is himself producing the film." So who all have been roped in for the project? "As of now, only Ronit Roy has been confirmed. We will be deciding on other cast members very soon. The film goes on floors in January next year", signs off Jag.

Stars cancelled shoots in protest against terrorism

There's a sense of shock and dismay in the film fraternity at what a handful of intruders have done to Mumbai last week. And no one is in the mood to return to work. Shooting on Saturday was sporadic. Bipasha Basu shot for a song with Ahmed Khan and Leena Bajaj shot with Amitabh Bachchan for Teen Patti. Otherwise all was quiet on the shooting front. Mira Nair who paid a handsome tribute to the city in Salaam Bombay is unable to talk about it. "I've no words at this moment. I pray for equanimity to prevail and that we don't give in to hysteria." Mira has stayed at the devastated Taj on her frequent visits to Mumbai. Film folks from across the world have lost something valuable in the Taj massacre. Naseeruddin Shah echoes Mira's sentiments when he says, "What's the point in spouting clichés? Let's leave that to the politicians. My reaction of outrage and helplessness is no different from that of any sane person." Sushmita Sen too is wounded by the attack on Mumbai. "The last couple of days have left me deeply hurt and angered. What's happening to our administration? We now see a basic disregard for human life. I've been praying constantly for all our children's future." Preity Zinta, who returned two days ago from Dubai to a shell-shocked Mumbai still can't believe what's happened. "I was stranded on the Dubai airport on Wednesday night. Innocent women and children being killed. What sense does it make? I've spent so many evenings at the Taj. I remember their hospitable staff with much warmth. Will the Taj ever be the same again? My brother and his family have come from the US to bring in my mother's birthday on Sunday. They couldn't have chosen a worst time to come to Mumbai. But it's good to have family with me at such a time." A majority of the Bollywood stars were in no mood to resume work on Saturday, although the city seemed ready to bounce back. Said Suneil Shetty, "The city is in state of shock. I'm getting to know gradually that I've lost friends in the attack whom I've known for years. This time it's not like other times. My family and I live quite close to both the Taj and Oberoi. We saw smoke and fire billowing out of these places where we've spent so many evenings." Suneil shot on Thursday for Priyadarshan's De Dana Dan. But stayed home on Friday. Harman Baweja cancelled his shooting because he says he felt "angered and disillusioned." Sonu Sood cancelled his shooting in Hyderabad arguing, "I've been under too much stress in the last four days. I guess I'll start shooting the day after." Vatsal Seth and Celina Jaitley chose to stay away from shooting to attend their friend Ashish Chowdhry's sister's funeral on Saturday afternoon. Ashish's mother and his sister's mother-in-law were inconsolably shattered. There were 10 bodies to be cremated along with Ashish's sister's and brother-in-law's. Will their lives ever be the same again? Lilette Dubey who lives right next to the Taj described the post-Wednesday scenario in a Colaba as a "war zone." She left Mumbai on Friday to be with her family in Delhi. Bollywood is in no mood to forgive, forget and move on.

Suparn Verma kick starts non-cooperation movement at Taj

'I'm sick and tired of being resilient, of living my life like the blood of my brethren spilt on the streets targeted by a bomb or a bullet will not make me stop my life!', comments an angrily sounding Suparn Verma in his recent blog. Amongst all the venom that he is spouting about the current terror situation in Mumbai, he is also leading an initiative where he is urging people to come together to ask for the basic right of living life fearlessly. "Yes, I am deeply anguished and would be standing outside the Taj Hotel on Wednesday, December 3 at 6 pm. I am deeply hurt and want us all to come together to remember the loss of our fellow beings. We should tell the world that the loss of lives that people and their families have suffered does not go down in vain and lessons are learned", says a visibly upset Suparn who also asserts that 'It's time to press the brakes NOW'! While claiming that he is mad as hell and won't take it anymore, he goes on to challenge the lessons learnt from 1993 blasts (when arms had come via the sea route), lack of crisis management infrastructure in Mumbai and politicians traveling 'shamelessly' across the country to give sound bytes without caring about impeding the work of security and forensics. Says Suparn, "I have a lot of questions and waiting to get an answer. I want all of us to come together and make things happen. Rather than just making statements and expect that our voice would be heard, I want some action to take place. For this very reason, I would be standing outside the Taj Hotel on Wednesday, December 3 at 6 pm. I want more and more people to come and join me for this. Let our voice be heard and people see how angry and frustrated and tired we are." He is particularly anguished about the fact that apparently Ministers didn't even know that the Marine commandos are based in Maharashtra, Home Ministry did not even have the blueprints of the Taj and Oberoi hotel, there isn't any NSG in Mumbai while Leaders chose to step into the city when the security personnel would have rather protected the hostages than look after them. "See, we need to be seen to be heard and the only way our leaders will listen to us is when they see a vote bank", explains Suparn the reason behind the method he is adopting to let his protest be known, "I urge this vote bank to show their face. Election Commission calls us voters as 'Pappus' so be it. Let these 'Pappus' come together and stand together. Let the parties realize that we vote them to power so from now on, if they have been assigned a task, let them also have deadlines and deliver accordingly." He doesn't want the people who join this initiative to be restricted to only celebrities or 'aam junta'. "Let people from Corporate houses also come together in this; after all they are also loosing business due to such terror attacks. It's high time we stopped saying that 'Bahaut bura hua'. I don't want us to continue singing praises about the spirit of Mumbai. We should not just sit at home and watch TV. It has to be a revolution now since that's the only alternative." For how long is he looking at keeping the momentum on? "Frankly, I don't mind going there every Wednesday. I don't just want to light a candle because woh toh kuch time baad bujh jaayegi. I want the flame to be on. We have to be proactive rather than just circulating a round of SMSes." Does he not fear the authorities that may object to him leading a crowd gathering in front of Taj? "Is there a law that prevents more than 10 people to come together at a single place", Suparn shoots back, "I am not going there for some 'naarebaazi' or 'jhandebaazi'. Neither is it going to be a speech giving session there. It is just going to be like minded people coming together and showing the world that we are together and we are hurt. I don't see why authorities would have a problem with something like that." So is his decision to stand in front of Taj a sort of non-cooperation movement? "Pretty much so", says Suparn who is one of the first celebrities to be kick starting an initiative of this sort, "We should all show that we won't take this lying down. We want safety of our family, our city and our country and for this all, we citizens should come together. It is high time that we stopped being the silent majority and minding our own business." Remember the date and time: 6 PM, Wednesday, December 3!

How did RGV join the CM during his official visit to the Taj hotel?

'Armed with a degree in journalism, Purab Shastri truly believes that the media should be the check point for the people of a country, and therefore, it should report news, instead of manufacturing news. Purab's thinking sets him apart from most youngsters of this country. While everyone is chasing their individual dreams, Purab aggressively wants to work towards a better India. Needless to say, a clash between Purab and the powers-that-be looks inevitable. It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong! Will Purab be one of the many who submit themselves to the media hypocrisy?' Now you may be wondering whom we are talking about. Purab is Riteish Deshmukh who plays a journalist in Ram Gopal Varma's biggest film to be released next year titled Rann. Now we all know that wherever RGV goes, controversy follows. That is exactly what happened yesterday in Mumbai and like Purab of Rann, there were many journalists who targeted both Ram Gopal Varma and Riteish Deshmukh on their shocking visit to The Taj Hotel with the Chief Minister of Mumbai Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh. Some reporters thought that RGV's visit to the Taj was to make a film on the Taj and the Oberoi bombings. While others verbally assaulted the director as if he was in some museum or a mall. Within minutes, the news story became the news headlines on national television and the only question being asked was: What was RGV doing inside the Taj hotel with the Deshmukhs? Bollywood Hungama found out some of the facts leading to yesterday's breaking news. Our sources confirmed to us that RGV is leaving on the 5th of December to Sri Lanka for the shoot of his next film Agyaat. So before leaving, he wanted to wrap up some important meetings with the star cast of Rann. Since last one week Mohnish Behl, Rajpal Yadav, Riteish Deshmukh and Gul Panag have been visiting RGV's office in Oshiwara to discuss their look for the film and few other details. Not many know but Riteish has the most important role in the film according to RGV and discussions between the actor and director were increasing day by day. But due to the Mumbai bombings, this time around, Ramu thought of paying the junior Deshmukh a visit at his residence-Varsha, to talk about the film. Both were busy talking about Rann for half an hour and then decided to part ways when suddenly Riteish told RGV to accompany him in his car along with his father Vilasrao Deshmukh's convoy which was heading towards the Taj hotel. Unaware of where the convoy was going, both the actor and the director started chatting a bit about the recent attacks and then their film till their car stopped just outside the Taj. With no clue as to what was happening, RGV got down along with his actor friend Riteish and followed Vilasrao inside the Taj. RGV was also heard on the television clarifying that his visit was a mere coincidence and bad timing. Knowing the type of films Ramu makes, one can't think but come to a conclusion that his visit was primarily to make another dark and a grim reality flick. Now if that was the case, how come the director missed his visit to the Leopold cafe, Nariman House and the Trident Oberoi? Whether Ram Gopal Varma will make another realistic film with terrorism as it's backdrop is something which only the maverick director will be able to tell us in the near future but what we can say is that this incident of him entering the Taj with the Deshmukh's is creating one hell of a 'news story'.
